Dave Charlton was one of the greatest South African drivers of all time, winning the national F1 championships six times in succession from 1970 to 1975, a feat only matched by John Love and later by Ian Scheckter. He also regularly entered the South African Grand Prix and the occasional European round of the world championship from 1965 to 1975, mainly for Scuderia Scribante, but also for the works Brabham and Lotus teams in 1971.

Ernst Lautenschlager was a German Formula 2 and sportscar driver. Ernst was a pretty anonymous driver, although he scored two podiums in the German sportscar championship, with a best finish of fifth overall in the 1954 GT1.6 class. He also entered two non-championship F1 races in 1953 as a privateer. At the time of his death, Ernst was technically the oldest living Formula 1 driver at the age of 99.

RIP to both Dave and Ernst, if he had the funding perhaps Dave could have made a bigger name for himself in Formula One.
