I'm "impressed" (For want of a better word) at 6.5 RotRs in 3 and a bit seasons for Maldonado. He's got a far better strike rate than the three drivers ahead of him who have had way longer careers. :)

Actually he's the second driver. The first was Barrichello at Indy 2004 when he gave some of his famous post-race excuses for not winning.

Now that we have Biscione (and/or Nuppiz) deciding ROTR, are we going to to have separate Jamie/Enoch era and Biscione/Nuppiz era ROTR leaderboards (as per Top Gear's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car leaderboards), or will it remain as one combined ROTR award list?

Not sure about that, but I suspect he should be there due to his poor chequered flag-wawing performance at the 2002 Brazilian GP, as he completely missed the Schumacher brothers crossing the finish line.

Not waving the checkered flag when Schumacher crossed the line. The first driver to see the flag was Takuma Sato who was 2 laps down.

Of the current drivers, Valtteri Bottas has started the most races (38) without being awarded ROTR. I wonder if there are any retired drivers that were never ROTR that have a higher number of starts over the existence of F1 Rejects?

Timo Glock - 95 entries, 91 starts
Pedro de la Rosa - 83 entries, 81 starts from France 2000 onwards
Robert Kubica - 76 entries, 76 starts
Jean-Éric Vergne - 58 entries, 58 starts
Eddie Irvine - 43 entries, 42 starts from France 2000 onwards
Charles Pic - 39 entries, 39 starts

It makes me laugh that Pic is on that list. I mean, he drove for two full seasons in Formula 1 and his career was just as forgettable as Lucas di Grassi's :D So anonymous that he wasn't noticeable enough to win a ROTR

It was not one single incident (the website & RotR award didn't exist in 1997), just that over 14 years Schumacher accumulated more RotR awards than anyone else. Possibly part of the reason was that as a 7 time World Champion, he set such high standards for himself that any blunder was likely to be punished with RotR, whereas a lesser driver might have been let off. He'd already amassed 5.5 RotRs in his 1st career IIRC, but he obviously became a huge target in his comeback.

The full list of races where Schumacher got RotR:
USA 2002 (shared with Barrichello)
Malaysia 2003
Monaco 2004
China 2004
Monaco 2006
Hungary 2006
Canada 2010
Hungary 2010
Turkey 2011
Germany 2011 (shared with Vettel)
Hungary 2012

IIRC he was let of for that race because Enoch got fed up of giving it to him all the time.

Edit: I found his original post when he awarded it to Karthikeyan instead:

eytl wrote:I'm rather amazed at how the same nominees have kept cropping up - not unjustifiably - every round this year. I couldn't be more bored considering Michael Schumacher for ROTR even if it were Nick Heidfeld up for nomination ...

Not that it's much of an excuse, but at least Schumacher had the excuse of being caught out on the first lap after a restart, with two cars in front of him providing a distraction, and with old age partly to blame as well. And as for the likes of Mark Webber ... well his hopelessness ever since I wrote that article is, um, fodder for another article in itself (or maybe just the Season Review).

In the end I've gone for Narain Karthikeyan, just because I can. Because that crash happened all on his own, mid-race. Because it was all just so ... gormless. As pasta_maldonado has described, because it was "reject gold".

Harsh maybe, but better than another Schumi award. We don't want him running away on the ROTR leaderboard ...
