The glorious career of Artemio Matarazzo: vote for 1992 team

Post by Nuppiz »

So after quite some time from the failed attempt at an F1 career with Sophie Fabron (which reached way too unrealistic proportions), I decided to start another F1C career in 1989. This time I'm starting with EuroBrun as Artemio Matarazzo, younger brother of Arsenio (of rFAF1, LGPS fame). The biggest reason he's currently in F1 is a huge wad of cash, but who knows how his career will turn up?

Like with Sophie Fabron's career, I'm running full weekends from prequalifying to Q1 to Q2 to race. I've already run two races, and here's the results:

Round 1, Brazil
Matarazzo: 12th in PQ DNPQ
Image
With little time to adapt to the car, Matarazzo understandably enough records a big fat DNPQ.

Round 2, San Marino
Matarazzo: 3rd in PQ, 12th in Q1, 15th in Q2, DNF in race (damage from multiple collisions)
Image
Making it on the grid with a superb drive, Matarazzo soon ruins his own race with poor driving which eventually saw him being lapped by lap 12, having pitted early for repairs. His blocking antics eventually saw him tangle with a couple lapping cars, which caused too much suspension damage for him to continue effectively. Before that, Satoru Nakajima had collided with his team mate Nelson Piquet and proceeded to take out multiple cars (including Ayrton Senna and Luis Perez-Sala). Perez-Sala was injured for two races, and Nakajima was promptly excluded from the same amount of races as well. Their replacements were announced to be Paolo Barilla and Martin Donnelly, respectively.

At the moment the WDC looks like this:
1. Gerhard Berger 12
2. Alain Prost 11
=3. Ayrton Senna 6
=3. Riccardo Patrese 6
=5. Thierry Boutsen 4
=5. Emanuele Pirro 4
7. Stefano Modena 3
8. Nigel Mansell 2
9. Nelson Piquet 1 (countback)
10. Derek Warwick 1

And the WCC like this:
1. McLaren-Honda 17
2. Ferrari 14
3. Williams-Renault 10
4. Benetton-Ford 4
5. Brabham-Judd 3
6. Lotus-Judd 1 (countback)
7. Arrows-Ford 1

M & M - Monaco and Mexico

Round 3, Monaco
Matarazzo: 1st in PQ, 26th in Q1, 24th in Q2, DNF in race (accident on lap 36)
Image
Image
Image
Image
After making it on the grid with the skin of his teeth, Matarazzo somehow managed what most others failed to do for almost half of the race: keeping the car off the walls. However, around lap 25 his concentration lapsed and he lost his front wing, but thanks to heavy attrition he was still running in the points. But then on lap 36 he misjudged his braking point at the Nouvelle Chicane and crashed heavily into the tyre barriers. He was unhurt but the car was totaled, leaving him thinking "what could've been" for the rest of the afternoon.

Round 4, Mexico
Matarazzo: 3rd in PQ, 18th in Q1, 20th in Q2, 5th in the race
Image
Image

Image
During a very tight prequalifying session Matarazzo was able to find those crucial couple of tenths which allowed him to continue into qualifying proper. He was then able to perfect his setup during Q1, allowing him to qualify with relative ease. Although his best lap in Q2 wasn't as perfect as in Q1, gradually worsening conditions towards the end of the session allowed him to qualify ahead of a few cars. In the race itself Matarazzo showed considerable pace by not only being able to keep up with the other cars, but also by executing a few nifty overtaking moves on Ivan Capelli, Derek Warwick and Pierluigi Martini. The rain from yesterday's qualifying session returned about one third into the race, with Jonathan Palmer causing a pileup which eliminated, among others, then-current race leader Alain Prost. After the race Plamer was handed a one-race penalty for this, with Johnny Herbert standing in as his replacement in USA.

As more cars fell on the wayside in the worsening conditions, Matarazzo suddenly found himself near points-paying positions - and actually catching the Benettons and Williamses ahead of him. Soon enough the drivers started to switch to intermediate tyres, Matarazzo included who was now in the points in 6th. Despite his inexperience Matarazzo showed great prowess in being able to drive in the wet and soon improved to 5th as Martin Brundle was the last driver to pit in for intermediate tyres. For the next 20 laps Matarazzo kept up with the pace of Emanuele Pirro ahead of him, and was up into 4th as Thierry Boutsen made his second pitstop to switch for full wet tyres. By this point the conditions were bad enough that Boutsen soon caught up and passed Matarazzo, who soon after made the decision to switch to full wet tyres as well. Rejoining the track in 5th, he was able to keep up with the cars ahead of him. With about 15 laps remaining he slowly started to gain on Pirro and Boutsen again, helped by Boutsen's spin at Peraltada which saw him being passed by Pirro after a long and time-consuming duel. As the race was drawing to a close Matarazzo was catching up Boutsen by leaps and bounds, and as the last lap started he was only less than a second behind the Belgian. However, he was unable to find a safe enough place to overtake and settled for a 5th, not wanting to risk his and the team's first ever points. He eventually finished only 0.6 seconds behind Boutsen.

WDC after 4/16 rounds
1. Gerhard Berger 21
2. Ayrton Senna 15

Round 5, USA
Matarazzo: 2nd in PQ, 12th in Q1, 18th in Q2, DNF in the race (crashed out on the first lap)
Image
Image
Forgot to screencap Q2. Senna was on pole and I was 18th, so nothing special.
Image

After a decent qualifying session, Matarazzo's race got off to a very bad start as he hit the slow-starting Thierry Boutsen (who was unusually low on the grid), losing his front wing in the process. Failing to take this loss in grip into account, he then promptly smashed the wall in the first corner, ending his race there.
Image

However, behind him a much severe incident occured, as Rene Arnoux clashed with Johnny Herbert, ricocheted into the wall and proceeded to roll over two times before landing upside down in the middle of the track. It is expected that he'll miss at least five races due to multiple injuries, and will be replaced by Yannick Dalmas who comes with a bit of experience from driving with Larrousse in the past two seasons but his form is unknown due to recently suffering from Legionellosis.

Round 6, Canada
Matarazzo: 4th in PQ, 26th in Q1, 16th in Q2, DNF in the race (crashed out on the third lap)

Seems that I accidentally let myself in main qualifying despite being 5th, probably because the game generated a new time for Caffi after I pressed "Finish Session"... so let's just assume Caffi was DQed due to weight irregularities or something. :P

After once again making it on the grid (although just barely), Matarazzo had an excellent start and was 6th by the end of the first lap, as many other drivers retired due to accidents and collisions. However, on lap three he misjudged his entry into the Casino kink and crashed into the barriers (OOC: I'm often caught out by that, because I'm used to the full straight in place from 1996 onwards), damaging his car so much that continuing the race was not a viable option.

Despite cranking difficulty all the way up to 120%, things still seemed a bit too easy. So I edited the AIW to make the opponents much faster.

Once again Matarazzo was off to a good start, mixing it up around 10th place with the Lotuses after the first lap. However, a collision with Satoru Nakajima (the Japanese driver went a bit wide and then turned right in front of Matarazzo) resulted in a front wing change which dropped him last. A furious chase followed as Matarazzo tried to reclaim lost positions, only to collide again, this time with Olivier Grouillard who had a very poor exit from L'Ecole. Despite receiving some suspension damage and having to change his front wing yet again, Matarazzo continued in last place until Riccardo Patrese smashed into his rear during an overly optimistic attempt to lap him. Matarazzo limped to the pits but it was clear that now the car was way too damaged to continue.

Round 8, Great Britain
Matarazzo: 3rd in PQ, 25th in Q1, 13th in Q2, DNF in the race (collision with Stefano Modena on the second lap)
Image
Image
Image

As is beginning to become the norm, Matarazzo got a good start and was in the top 10 after the first lap. However, near the end of lap 2 Stefano Modena's overtaking attempt in the Bridge chicane led to a heavy collision between the two, and neither driver could continue the race. Many other collisions between other drivers occured as well, including one between Alain Prost and Riccardo Patrese. Around lap 20 it started to rain, and the conditions quickly worsened. More drivers, including then-current race leader Senna, became victims of a pitlane chaos as almost everyone tried to pit for wet tyres - this incident has caused FISA to consider pitlane speed limits to reduce the chances of incidents on the pitlane. The conditions worsened to a point where red-flagging the race was considered, as many other cars fell on the wayside - including Emanuele Pirro and Nigel Mansell, who both briefly led the race. Soon after Thierry Boutsen, whom had now inherited the lead, slid off into the barriers as well, it was decided to abort the race after 31 laps to avoid anyone getting injured.

The final race standings were as follows:
1. Alessandro Nannini (Benetton)
2. Derek Warwick (Arrows)
3. Jonathan Palmer (Tyrrell)
4. Michele Alboreto (Larrousse)
5. Luis Perez-Sala (Minardi)
6. Thierry Boutsen (Williams)

As the race was stopped before 75% of the distance was covered, only half points are awarded.

WDC after 8/16 rounds

In a race of heavy attrition (mainly due to collisions), Matarazzo performed adequately by hanging around 10th place, although he made numerous mistakes and was even passed by the Onyx of Bertrand Gachot. The most costly mistake happened on lap 25, as while being pressured by Patrese (who had gone through an early pitstop due to collision damage) he overshot Bremsschikane 2, slid on the grass and hit the wall at a high speed, wrecking his car but thankfully remaining unhurt himself.

Struggling to find grip on the twisty Hungaroring, Matarazzo posted his first failure to qualify since the opening round at Jacarepagua. The race itself was relatively boring, with the occasional crashes and mechanical failures being responsible for most of the entertainment.

After just barely making the cut in qualifying, Matarazzo once again made one of his trademark excellent starts and was 10th out of La Source, helped by the cars being bunched up due to Senna's accident. He stayed around this position until lap 14, when he collided with Stefano Modena and lost his front wing. But it was after this pitstop Matarazzo truly started to shine (mostly due to switching to softer tyres), as he started to reclaim lost ground and was genuinely among the fastest cars on the track. However, it was no surprise that the soft tyres didn't last to the end, especially with Matarazzo's qualifying-style laps, so after momentarily being 4th following Capelli's pitstop for fresh tyres he started to slip back and bitterly lost 6th position to Pierluigi Martini on the last lap of the race, having lost all the grip in his tyres.

With an all-or-nothing setup on his car, Matarazzo managed to blast through the circuit at an immense pace, but on further inspection the setup proved to be to wearing on the car. With a more conservative setup Matarazzo couldn't improve his time, but instead fell backwards to very last on the grid. As is beginning to become the norm, he started the race well and was in the top 10 before a lapse in concentration saw him overshoot the second turn and crash the car.

After a pair of DNQs Matarazzo was back in his usual form by taking his EuroBrun very high in the grid. The race turned out to be rainy, and as many others fell on the wayside Matarazzo carefully navigated his way around the circuit, being as high as 7th before an error dropped him 8th. While trying to chase the people in front of him he made a mistake in turn 13, hitting the barriers hard enough to be forced to retire on the spot.

Re: The glorious reject career of Artemio Matarazzo

Post by Nuppiz »

Note: from this season onwards I'll write the race notes in first person, with occasional comments from other drivers as well. Since I can't write Italian, just imagine Matarazzo is speaking it even though I write everything in English. :P

Artemio Matarazzo wrote:Damn those fools at EuroBrun. I scored them points and put that car in places where it shouldn't have been on a regular basis, and they have the cheek to sack me? So what if I put a few dents on the car every now and then, I'm quite sure the money I brought in covered all the repairs (editor's note: it didn't). But no, instead they apparently scammed me off as they're now running two cars again, with the Coloni refugee Roberto Moreno and some nobody from my homeland I haven't even heard of before but apparently brings in the dough.

Well, joke's on them. I managed to land a seat with a very promising new outfit called Life Racing Engines. They're Italian like me and Ferrari, and are also building their own engine which is of a revolutionary design. I am sure our co-operation will lead to great things and leave those EuroBrun idiots smelling my exhausts!

Round 1 - USA
Matarazzo: 9th in PQ DNPQ

Artemio Matarazzo wrote:Mamma mia, this car is utterly terrible to drive. The so-called "revolutionary" engine has no power whatsoever and has a habit of constantly exploding, and the chassis behaves like a brick on ice. I was unable to complete a single timed lap because either the car kept breaking up or I hit the wall due to the terrible handling. I'm running as far as possible from this team before that... thing kills me. Even if it means I won't have a race seat at all.

Artemio Matarazzo wrote:I was lucky in that I didn't have to wait long for a new opportunity to drive. Apparently Olivier Grouillard had lost most of his driving motivation after enduring a poor year with Ligier last season, a situation which was further worsened after this same team now performed admirably in prequalifying for the first race this year while he recorded a DNPQ. So while he returned to F3000 to scrape together what's left of his motivation Osella needed a new driver, and since I was recently out of a drive, was Italian and had a healthy sponsorship backing, it wasn't long before they called me and of course I immediatedly said "yes". They've recently got major backing from wheel manufacturer Fondmetal too, so budget shouldn't be as big as an issue as before.

Round 2 - Brazil
Matarazzo: 1st in PQ, 26th in Q1, 16th in Q2, DNF in the race (accident damage after 16 laps)

Artemio Matarazzo wrote:This car is so much better to drive than the Life. Thanks to the good handling I was able to learn the new circuit quickly, and felt confident enough to push harder which allowed me to top the prequalifying session charts with ease. However I was unable to get into the same rhythm in Q1, and just barely made the grid, and although I improved my position in Q2 I knew I could've still been better.

However, like so many times last season I got a good start and got all the way up to 5th, and I was able to stick to that position despite intense pressure from both Benettons. On lap 7, I made a small mistake at Subida do Lago which allowed Nannini to overtake me, but I took back the position by braking extremely late at Laranja. Our cars banged wheel with each other a bit but I don't think either of them was damaged. Unfortunately, on lap 11 I made a mistake in the first corner which allowed Nannini to get past me, this time for good, and as I tried to make up for my mistake on the next lap I went wide at Ferradura and hit the barrier. I could still limp to the pits but the supension was bent beyond repair so I had to retire.

Speaking of the Life, I noticed my copatriot Bruno Giacomelli, a veteran who I though had already quit the sport, has been signed to drive that horrendous thing. Apparently he has too much time on his hands and wants to spend it by being involved in the sport in at least some capacity. I just hope he doesn't get killed driving it.

Alessandro Nannini wrote:That Matarazzo guy is a complete lunatic. What he called a "slight nudge" very nearly ended the race for both, and my car definitely got damaged which is why I dropped out from points. While I'm not questioning that he's a fast a driver, he's currently a major threat to the health of every other driver on the track. If he doesn't calm down soon I hope FISA will take some action, before someone gets severely injured by him.

Artemio Matarazzo wrote:Once again I was really condifent with the car, and to my surprise the same setup I used in Brazil worked quite well here as well, with only minor tweaks needed. So it didn't take long for me to get a good lap in, which turned out to be over a second faster than the next-fastest driver. After a similar lap in Q1 I pushed to the very limit - and probably over it - in Q2 which paid off with a handsome top 10 grid position. Unfortunately after being sunny all weekend it started to rain on Sunday morning, and although the rain stopped before the race started the track was still very wet. I foolishly thought intermediate tyres would be good enough while everyone else went with full wets. Obviously this wasn't the case, and after struggling for ten laps I hit a kerb too hard, spun, and was nudged into a wall by de Cesaris. Like in Brazil I could still limp to the pits but there was just too much damage to continue.

Note: I ran these races a long time ago, so I can't remember the exact details of what happened. So no comments from Matarazzo in this post. Oh well, I scored points again (and am no longer a reject)!

Artemio Matarazzo wrote:I felt really confident with the car all weekend, and was able to consistently challenge everyone except the very top drivers. I had a good start and was able to hang on to 6th place for a while before Piquet passed me. Then I was touched by Patrese (who I heard then crashed with Nannini) but was able to continue without any damage. Unfortunately on lap 12, there was a pileup of four cars ahead on the track, and although I noticed the yellow flags I was still unable to avoid hitting Prost, whose wreck was in the middle of the track. I lost a wheel in the ensuing collision and my race was over immediatedly.

This is really making me want to start a new driver career as a pre-qualifier. I've had one in mind for a while, and i'll credit you for it as you helped me simulate pre-qualifying properly in F1C.

Are you planning on staying with Fondmetal for 1991?

Fondmetal is one of the possibilities for 1991, but with such a wide range of options still available I'm not locking into any plans yet. In a few seasons' time the amount of options will be drastically reduced, so I'll try to enjoy this situation while it lasts. In any case I'll always try to take the seat of someone who would be in their last season anyway or never made much of an impact in F1, as I don't like to shuffle around the drivers too much.

But eh, there's nothing I could've done to prevent this.

That's partly why I went with Arrows in 2001 in my other career. Button debuts a year late at Williams, Verstappen replaces him at Benetton and I replace Verstappen. I had to do that to stop Montoya debuting, as I knew i'd probably end up back at Williams. It usually worked out easier than that though, replacing Grouillard at Tyrrell and Hill at Jordan was easier.

I'm bearing that in mind for my next career, i'll probably be replacing Oscar Larrauri at Eurobrun. It will work as they tried to replace him with Christian Danner anyway.

Artemio Matarazzo wrote:Not having to take part in prequalifying is both a blessing and a curse. On the other hand it means there's one less hurdle to pass on the way to the starting grid, on the other hand it means there's one less session where I can fine tune the setup of my car. In Q1 I was down to my last attempt before I was able to complete a clean lap without any errors, while in Q2 the weather was much colder and I really struggled to get any grip. And in the race itself, with a heavy fuel load and harder tyres I struggled even more and crashed out early with an overeager entry to the second chicane.

Artemio Matarazzo wrote:Well that was a difficult weekend for a home race. Q1 wasn't too bad as it was quite warm so I could easily heat up the tyres and brakes to a temperature where the car worked nicely. But Q2 started with a wet track, and I spent way too much time tryng to improve my time in those conditions before I realised the track was drying and the best times would be achieved at the end of the session. Then on my only attempt on a dry track I went too aggressively over the kerbs at the exit of Ascari and spun into the barriers, so ultimately I started last on the grid. Early attrition helped me climb up the charts, but once again the car didn't feel very good with race fuel aboard and the situation only worsened as the skies grew darker and eventually rain hit the track some 8 laps in. Even after changing to rain tyres I quickly started to fall behind, and with the car handling so pporly I eventually hit the barriers at Ascari again. I was able to limp to the pits to repair some of the damage, but the suspension had taken a hit and what little handling was left in the car had vanished. I struggled for a couple of laps more before eventually losing control of the car at Variante della Roggia and crashing into the barriers. While it was disappointing to once again retire at my home race, in a way it was a relief after all the struggles I went through.

I barely scraped through Q1, managed to improve considerably in Q2 as I once again got used to the track and then ended up making tons of mistakes because the car handled differently with the more conservative race setup and additional fuel aboard. One of these mistakes eventually resulted in me crashing out at the very same corner where I crashed last year.

Life Racing Engines and EuroBrun Racing have announced their withdrawal from the series, with neither team making the trip to the remaining two overseas races. With the overall entry list now down to 30 cars, prequalifying is no longer needed.

On 12th October 1990, a week before the Japanese Grand Prix weekend began, Alessandro Nannini suffered a helicopter accident which severed his right forearm. Although Nannini underwent successful microsurgery to reattach the arm it's unlikely that he'll be a Formula 1 driver ever again. Benetton's test driver Roberto Moreno, who was recently released from his EuroBrun contract following the team's demise after the Spanish Grand Prix, has been announced as Nannini's replacement for the remainder of the season.

They are blaming me for causing massive repair bills which have directly led to this situation, while I know this most certainly isn't true. For the very same reason they asked me to stop the race while I was running 8th - they didn't want me to risk causing yet another wreck after admittedly having a couple of close calls during the race. At the rate things were going I could've scored points!

The real reason I quit was that things were getting really hairy with the AI as I ran it on full 120%. All of the top cars crashed out on their own accord, and then even the remaining cars started crashing with each other. So to avoid a total farce where only a couple of cars finished I decided to simulate the rest while there were still some AI drivers left.

To be honest Nuppiz, if I were faced with that situation I'd probably have turned down the difficulty and aggression but also handicapped my car somehow.

What are your plans for 1991? I notice Lotus haven't scored any points, and Derek Warwick left F1 after 1990 to be replaced by the Rejectful Julian Bailey. There's also the fact that Fondmetal was only a one-car effort for 1991, as well as the arrival of Jordan and I Can't Believe It's Not Lamborghini.

This is a good read, as I am looking of making my fictional championship into an actual modded career. How do you get it so you can have the pre-qualifying and 30 in qualifying as I am guessing this F1 Career Challenge?

You'd be best off creating a separate mod so to speak for pre-qualifying. For example, for 1990, you name it something along the lines of 90PQ.

There's instructions on how to do this in the main F1 Challenge thread. I'd definitely recommend having a look for yourself.

In hindsight that would've probably the best thing to do - I wasn't very fast until I went with the "all-in" setup (engine and brake cooling set to minimum to reduce drag) so I could've just used a "regular" setup and forget about getting realistic laptimes. Oh well, I'm still quite happy with the end result. As a matter of fact I hit ESC as soon as Gachot crashed with Dalmas - who was running 4th or 5th, can't recall the exact standings at the time - and was hoping the game would ignore the incident. The backstory I wrote to explain my "retirement" also helps explaining why I'm changing teams again for next year (not continuing with Fondmetal).

For 1991 my plans are currently at Modena-Lamborghini, replacing EvdP. They're Italian, they're a reject team, they have a different engine sound (after an entire season driving the same car it does start to sound fairly dull, although I know that in the latter seasons all cars will sound the same anyway) and they have two cars, which will make it easier to set prequalifying teams for the latter half of 1991 (provided I score good enough results to take Modena out from PQ, of course).

Unrealistic race result, I know. F1C simply refused to simulate any retirements after mine. But if it makes Thierry Boutsen the champ then I'm definitely sticking with it.

Artemio Matarazzo wrote:I was quite happy with most of my weekend, although in Q1 I was lucky to set my laptime before the rain started so I didn't have to worry about my qualification too much. A morning shower meant the track was wet at the start of the race, so I had to start on intermediate tyres which wasn't that easy because I haven't got very much experience from them. I did manage to get as high as 9th before a few mistakes dropped me down to 14th, After 13 laps the track was dry enough that I went to take on slicks, but the track was still slippery so I kept making small, unforced errors. Eventually on lap 30 I braked quite late and hit Stefano Modena (who was braking early) in the rear, so I had to pit for a new front wing. My suspension was also damaged so the car became much tougher to drive, so I ended up battling Gugelmin for 13th position. On lap 41 I managed to get very close to him when he suddenly lifted the throttle in the final kink - which is usually taken flat out. I had no time to react so I hit him hard, and both of us got airborne and I eventually landed upside down. I might have to miss the next race, my neck is a bit sore...

Autosport wrote:Matarazzo banned for two races following Brazil shunts

Artemio Matarazzo, who has certainly had spectacular results and especially spectacular crashes during his Formula 1 career, has been banned by the FISA from the next two Formula 1 Grands Prix. In the previous Grand Prix held at Interlagos in Brazil, Matarazzo had two collisions. First he hit Stefano Modena which forced the Tyrrell driver to retire while Matarazzo got away with an extra pitstop for repairs. And 11 laps later, Matarazzo crashed into Mauricio Gugelmin which sent both cars airborne. With Matarazzo already having a long hstory of causing collisions and near-misses, the FISA decided that he needed to be penalised before he caused a more serious accident.

The Modena team have already announced Belgian rookie Eric van de Poele, who finished runner-up in F3000 last year, as Matarazzo's replacement.

Artemio Matarazzo wrote:Oh for goodness' sake. Gugelmin lifts off in a place which is always taken at full throttle despite knowing I'm right behind him, and I'm the one who gets the blame? I might have a history of causing an accident or two but that doesn't mean I'm automatically at fault whenever I clash with somebody. Whatever, I'll take this as extra time to allow my neck to heal.

Shame about the ban, will you use the real results from 1991 for those missed races or simulate them too?

I have a question, how do you get the cars at Phoenix to complete a proper lap. At one corner, they turn in about 5 metres too early. I've tried reducing the damage and aggression as low as possible and it does nothing. Is there any file I can edit to prevent that from happening?

Do what I did, move the race elsewhere. :pantano:

But seriously, I tried editing the AIW file using an AIW editing program for F1C but I just can't make out the racing line.

I'll simulate them. I did it for Imola and will do it for Monaco as well once I continue with this career. As usual, Monaco is proving to be a bit too challenging for the F1C AI so it'll take a few attempts to get decent results...

I'm not sure really. I'm using the most recent version of David Marques' 1991 mod (V4.0) and I don't recall having any terminal issues with Phoenix. Since it's been a while already I can't remember what difficulty setting I used but it was well above 100% anyway (I usually dial it in race-by-race based on real-life results).

But, I noticed that my 1991 Phoenix AIW has been edited on 1st June 2016, so maybe I did change something. Here's the DL: https://www.mediafire.com/?2sdxsthso0x6yqn

Did you use the 1991 layout every season?

The corner in question is not a part of the 1991 layout, so i'm considering doing that.

Prequalifying and qualifying went really well, but I had some initial troubles in the race as the track was still slightly wet after a morning shower. I decided to take on intermediate tyres, but although I was able to get as high as 7th in the start I quickly started to slip down the order as the track was drying, so on lap 7 I went into the pits to take on slicks. After that the car really came alive, and I started to catch up the people in front of me. After a few overtakes and retirements I suddenly found myself in 6th position, which then became 5th after another retirement. Then Moreno had to pit in because his Pirelli tyres wore out faster than my Goodyears so I was 4th, but obviously my tyres couldn't last forever either so I made my second pitstop on lap 41. I dropped back to 5th but then Moreno had to make another stop so I was able to cruise into an easy 4th, the first points for my team!

He crashed quite early on and lost his front wing, and eventually someone knocked off his rear wing as well. However, the pitlane glitched out on him so he just kept driving through it every time instead of stopping. Because of this he drove most of the race without wings and on completely worn-out intermediate tyres.
