How much would it cost Simtek to bench Herbert for two races?

To bench him, it will cost nothing as he is not a pay driver. He may get unhappy if you do it too often though.

Klon wrote:I am completely sick of Jos Verstappen. Just for planning purposes, how much would it cost to sack him?

If you were to do it now, it would be half his yearly salary, which is 1m per year (so the cost to sack him would be 0.5m) But he has another year on his contract so it would be half of the final year as well (so another 0.5m)

I will be amending and clarifying the rules on how to swap/sack drivers for next season (1996) and the cost, as it is not always clear or consistent, and, as I have also spotted, sometimes illogical.

Okay, well, Simtek will change our plans for the next race, and instead we will be running Emanuele Collard in France and Germany in exchange for 250k from Sauber. Herbert will run in Britain.

Red Bull Sauber confirm the deal. We will indeed pay 250k for Collard's two races with Simtek.
The reason behind the deal is simple, we want to know more about Collard's abilities. Since Schumacher and Wendlinger currently both have a shot at the drivers' title, we can't afford giving him a race or two at Sauber for now.

Collard is also happy to accept this in order to gain race time - I'll make the changes right now.

I hope to run the quali and race this weekend - Pi314159 are you still wanting to give Deletraz the boot?

Round 7: French Grand Prix - Qualifying report

Back to Europe for round 7 where its Michael Schumacher who once more takes pole position against the ever improving Williams team, with Hill partnering him on the front row and was just over a tenth shy, and showing more motivation since returning from his race ban. Coulthard was 3rd but only 3 hundredths behind his team mate while Alesi again takes 4th in the Ferrari. Morbidelli was again a creditable 6th while one of several stars of qualifying today was Martini in the McLaren who out qualified his teammate and put his car in 7th place, ahead of the 2 Benettons.

Further down, there was an impressive qualifying show from Tyrrells Jos Verstappen. The Dutchman, rumoured to have been told to show improvement from team management, dragged his Tyrrell into 13th place, ahead of both Ligiers and the highest placed qualifier from the non-points teams. Pacific also have reason to celebrate with both cars making the grid, Noda taking over from the lacklustre Deletraz to make 21st. Forti will also be happy, especially Diniz who not only qualified, but done so ahead of Montermini for the first time this year.

It wasn’t all good though, as some teams recorded disappointment. Jordan for the first time were unable to get a car into the top 10, while Simtek struggled with the Magny Cours circuit with Collard, substituting for Herbert down in 22nd while De Ferran only just scraped onto the grid in last place, while it was even worse for Larrousse with Inoue also on the back row while Gounon was almost a second adrift of the grid. Irvine was also unexpectedly poor, only managing 16th in the Ligier, being outqualified by Fittipaldi's Minardi.

Round 7: French Grand Prix - Race report

And they’re off at the green light! Schumacher makes a brilliant getaway into the lead while Hill is slow off the line and is passed by Coulthard and Wendlinger before the first corner! Alesi was also hesitant and is down in 6th behind his team mate Morbidelli, while Berger and Martini are side by side for 7th and still are coming out of Estoril! Berger gets ahead by a nose down the straight though as Morbidelli looks at Hill but Wendlinger outbrakes Coulthard on the inside of the Adelaide hairpin and takes 2nd! What a first lap from the Austrian! Morbidelli dows a similar move on Hill and takes 4th place as Martini also uses it to take back 7th – its a very aggressive race already and we are only ½ a lap in.

Further down, Blundell has also been on the move and is up to 15th at Fittipaldi’s expense who has already lost 3 places, but its worse for Noda on his Pacific debut as he is missing a rear wing. Checking the replays theres a scuffle at Adelaide where Noda is blockedby both Minardi’s and Katayama’s Tyrrell, and Letho brakes hard but runs into the back of the Pacific. Very messy but its clear no malice was involved and is simply a first lap incident.

Lap 2 and Hill takes 4th place back from Morbidelli at Adelaide while Coulthard is all over Wendlingers Sauber as Schumacher is already 3 and a half seconds clear on lap 3, with Wendlinger holding up Coulthard. Blundell though is on the warpath and has passed Irvines Ligier and is already harassing Brundle for 14th, the Arrows driver looking unusually fired up for today! Coulthard manages to pass Wendlinger back for 2nd and distances himself but still lacks pace to catch up to Schumacher. Berger has again taken 7th from Martini while Hill is also now with Wendlinger, the two Ferrari’s losing ground on the pair. Hill also gets past the Sauber on lap 5 while the two Ferrari’s swap positions.

With most of the field settling down on lap 7, the bulk of he action is down in 14th as Blundell still tries to pass the Ligier, Brundle almost pushing him onto the grass! To spice it up further, Panis has cleared Irvine and is gaining on the pair too. Theres a battle for 10th too with Zanardi busy holding back team make Mansell, with Frentzen just behind, the Jordans having a dismal weekend so far. Blundell forcefully pushes past Brundle on lap 10 to finally take the 14th and immediately sets of in persuit of Verstappens Tyrrell. Fittipaldi does likewise to Irvine to take 17th but is almost immediately elevated again to 16th as Panis becomes the first retiree with a broken gearbox, the Pacific teams day going from bad to worse.

Lap 12 and Mansell finally gets past Zanardi for 10th as team orders play a part, as Wendlinger is the next retirement with both the same cause as Panis at the same spot of the track – a gearbox fault. Frentzen is next to try passing Zanardi but its easier said than done and Zanardi his holding up the Benetton so much, Verstappen is slowly closing on them both in his Tyrrell! At the back, De Ferrans poor weekend is complete as Noda has managed to both catch and pass the Simtek despite his first lap fracas. Fittipaldi is the next to get the jump on Brundle on lap 15 and takes his Minardi up to 14th.

Lap 18 and Schumacher laps Letho while still extending his OH! SMOKE! SMOKE STARTS POURING OUT OF THE BACK of the Sauber! Schumacher has an engine problem as his Engine lets go, pouring smoke all over the main straight! Coulthard cannot believe his luck as for the first time this year it will not be a Sauber that takes the chequered flag! To compound it, so far Williams are running 1-2.

Morbidelli is the first driver to make a fuel stop on lap 20 from 4th place and emerges just in front of Zanardi, while Verstappen also pits from 11th place. Martini is in 1 lap later for his as a number of the field start to make their scheduled stops on lap 22, including leader Coulthard, 3rd placed Alesi, Berger in 4th and Hakkinnen in 5th. Montermini though doesn’t see his, a transmission fault forcing the Forti to pull over just before the pit enterance. De Ferran does make his but gets nop further than the first corner before his car goes up in flames with an oil leak, the Brazilian quickly pulling over and running from the car. With the Zanardi-Frentzen battle still going on with neither pitting, Frentzen takes advantage of the confusion as the pair pass the stricken Simtek to finally pass the Jordan. Speaking of Jordans, Mansell is now running 4th due to being on a different strategy but is under intense pressure from Morbidelli.

Hakkinen ends up coming again just 1 lap later as the McLaren mechanics, in a rush to get the Finn out, failed to put the back right wheel on properly! It visibly shakes but Hakkinen is able to get to the pits safely where the mechanics fix it but it costs him dear and it drops him down to 12th behind both Tyrrells although 11th placed Katayama is still to stop.

Morbidelli is still trying to find a way past Mansell while Martini has also run into difficulties getting past Zanardi. The fight for 4th has become a 3 way battle on lap 25 as Berger has managed to catch up to the pair and the 3 are nose to tail – to make it worse for Morbidelli, Berger cheekily passes the Ferrari on lap 26 at the hairpin! Berger tries to pass Mansell on the next lap but the Jordan shuts the door, the pair almost tangling on the main straight! Irvine is the next retirement when his Ligier bursts a tyre, spectacularly putting him in the tyre wall. It’s a big shunt but thankfully he gets out of the car, shaken but safe. Theres yet more drama as the 4th place battle starts to lap Diniz, Mansell getting past but Diniz is unaware of Berger and cuts right in front! Diniz loses his rear wing , but Berger appears ok, apart from his raise of hand in anger. The stewards quickly conclude it was no more than a racing incident.

No such drama at the front though as Coulthard still maintains a manageable lead of 3.5 seconds from teammate Hill with Alesi another 3 and ½ behind in 3rd on lap 29. Martini has managed to clear Zanardi for 8th and sets about closing on 7th placed Frentzen who also appears to be 1-stopping. Berger also clears Mansell on the same lap and immediately pulls away from the Jordan in a race which could affect both championships, with the Saubers freeing up two points positions. Hakkinen has now caught up with Verstappen in 10th but the Tyrrell isn’t going to roll over easily when he fights back on the main straight. Hakkinen tries again on the same lap but Verstappen almost reads him like a book and once more bocks the McLaren – His seat cannot be in question any more after this performance!

This lasts for another lap before Hakkinen finally outdrags the Tyrrell, but Verstappen is far from disgraced here. Morbidelli is still stuck behind Mansell as Martini is almost with Frentzen. Lap 40 and Hakkinen is in again for yet more fuel as his weekend appears to be falling apart, as it appears not enough went in first time round. Theres possible action at the very front though as Hill is catching up with Coulthard and gets to within 1 second but this is undone when Hill has problems lapping Inoue. Berger pits shortly after and it’s a short stop, implying Benetton have put him on a 3-stopper, but is it the right strategy? Alesi follows suit 1 lap later as Berger is out behind 8th placed Zanardi who is still yet to refuel. Alesi’s stop is longer, suggesting a 2-stop but he easily holds on to 3rd place. Martini’s engine starts smoking, before cutting out on lap 43, his wonderful performance today going the same way as Martini suffers déjà vu on his season with Ferrari last year.

Hakkinen once more is behind Verstappens Tyrrell this time for 9th place but again, Verstappen shows courage in holding the McLaren back but again eventually has to give in. Mansell finally makes his only stop of the day on lap 46 as Frentzen does likewise but still Zanardi plods on as Berger finally makes it past for 5th, Mansell emerging in 7th. Zanardi makes his only stop 1 lap later as Mansell has managed to catch Berger. Hill though has caught up with Coulthards only to pit himself. This race will be decided by the Williams mechanics as Morbidelli also makes a stop but comes out behind Mansell and Berger, the former passing the Benetton, in a drive brilliant in hindsight by Mansell who has made his 1-stop work while Bergers 3 stop has failed.

Coulthard pits on lap 51 but it appears long, and he leaves his box and Hill exits the final corner, will Coulthard come out in time? Coulthard emerges AND HILL HAS TO BRAKE! THAT WAS VERY CLOSE as Coulthard comes out right in front of his team mate forcing Hill to slam on his brakes! There will be stern words in the teams debrief as the Williams drivers came within an inch of taking each other out! But Hill hasn’t given up and they go down the straight side by side, but Hill has the inside for the hairpin AND HE DOES IT! Hill passes to take the lead of the French grand prix! What a performance on his return!

Berger has also retaken 4th from Mansell on the same lap but remember he still has one stop to make. COULTHARD IS ON FIRE! The Williams engine has caught fire in what looks like a massive oil leak! He pulls over immediately but it has definitely tainted Williams day as their 1-2 chances are now gone, and Coulthard looks none too happy either. Berger makes his final stop on lap 56, handing the final podium place to Mansell who has had a very industrious drive today from 11th on the grid. Morbidelli is the next retirement from 4th on lap 65 with an engine fault as Berger has now caught up with his team mate Frentzen to start a fight for 4th. Will Frentzen hold on to score his best result yet?

But it is Damon Hill who wins the French Grand Prix of 1995 and what a way to come back to the sport! He looks de-lighted and rightly so after this weekend. Alesi takes 2nd place in what has been a solid drive from the Frenchman at his home grand prix while Mansell is 3rd after a tactical drive from 11th on the grid. Frentzen holds on to take 4th place and by doing so scores his best result yet while Berger is 5th but could have been on the podium if it wasn’t for a bad strategy. However, Benetton move back into 5th on the constructors championship from McLaren. Zanardi takes the final point thanks to a steady if unspectacular drive.

Its been a good day for several drivers though as Verstappen takes a brilliant drive to 8th place and was in a race of his own, while Blundell had an entertaining race into 10th place. Noda also deserves recognition for fighting into 13th despite his first lap pitstop.

Good debut for Noda, a top 10 finish could have been possible without the extra stop. Panis couldn't really do much before his car failed. At least there will likely be two Pacifics on the grid for the rest of the season.

Minardi will test at Silverstone before this weekend in order to try out the improved ED engines and try to find some more speed out of the chassis.

Yes, definately. I am not sure if there will be new teams in 1996, but Steward and Lola will definately be involved if there is at least 2 people on the waiting list :)

Which reminds me...

Announcements
Peteroli34: Your designers have manage to rectify some faults with your cars initial design and get more out of the engine with the new B-Spec car - This equals additional speed improvements and the car is ready to use for the British Grand Prix.
Kevinbotz: With your teams base close to Silverstone, your engineers have managed to fast track speed upgrades to the car for the British Grand Prix in the form of a new B-Spec chassis.
All Ford Zetec teams: Ford have made improvements in power output of their top-tier engine. This raises the speed cap of the engine with immediate effect.
Wizzie: Ford have also made tweaks to their ED engine to find more speed in time for Silverstone - This also raises the power cap in time for the British GP
Hermann95: Mugen-Honda have found further performance gains to their engine in time for Jordan's home GP. This equates to an increase in engine power

All: I am not sure if I will get the British GP run in time for this weekend. However, what I can confirm is that some point after the race I will put up details of the 1996 season, including changes. There will be a change to the driver market for 1996 and also engine negotions, which I will reveal more about closer to this update, as well as some clarification on contracts and a few other changes (though 1996 will be more fine-tuning than game-changing new rules).

Testing is still open. In addition, there will be an FIA-subsidised free test after Silverstone for all teams.

Re: F1 Manager 95 (Collieafc) - Silverstone Quali up

Post by Collieafc »

After a busy life outwith the forums including moving house, perhaps some normality will return...

Round 8: British Grand Prix - Qualifying report

As we reach the halfway point of the season, it’s a pole position for David Coulthard in the Williams Renault by over 2 tenths from team mate Hill, as the team successfully lock out the front row in what is a home race for both drivers and team but Schumacher will be looking to spoil the party from 3rd place. He shares the 2nd row with Alesi who once again takes his trademark 4th place on the grid. The home crowd have a lot to be pleased about as Mansell pushed his Jordan to a season best 6th place, though it will be very tight for points as one tenth separated 5th to 9th.

Ligier also have reason to smile as they took their best team qualification of the year so far with Brundle beating both McLarens to 11th while Irvine also mixed with the British outfit. Panis was also a star of qualifying to put his Pacific in 15th just 2 thousandths ahead of Verstappens Tyrrell as De Ferran also put his Simtek a commendable 19th, again ahead of his experienced teammate Herbert. The biggest success story though, surprisingly, was Montermini who gave Forti their best ever qualification spot of 21st and even beating Fittipaldi’s Minardi, despite only managing one qualifying session.

The Sunday Times wrote:Barrichello on the mend

The British Grand Prix got off to a good start before the cars were even on the grid today when doctors announced an update on the condition of Rubens Barrichello. The rising star of the Jordan team suffered life-threatening injuries in the Argentinian grand prix earlier this year and there were doubts as to whether he would even return to racing again.

However, both doctors and Barrichello’s family have recently described the Brazilians recovery as going smoothly and that not only will he be able to race in Formula 1 again, there is a strong possibility that it could be before the end of this season. Going by his current rate of recovery, it is thought Barrichello will have recovered enough to participate at the Pacific Grand Prix in late October, should the Jordan team allow.

Doctors and the Barrichello family will likely release further updates as time goes on but for now the news has been a welcome boost for the Formula 1 community.

Round 8: British Grand Prix - Race report

And…its…GO! Coulthard makes a flawless start and easily keeps ahead of Hill at the first corner who in turn mamages to keep Schumacher back in 3rd. But whats this? Mansell comes from nowhere and charges past both of them on the inside to jump into 2nd from 6th on the grid! Schumacher uses this to sneak past Hill on the outside ad the Williams driver is in disbelief! He isn’t the only fast start as his team mate Zanardi has leapt from 10th to 6th at Alesi’s expense who has dropped to 7th at exit of Copse. Martini has also moved up from 14th to 10th. Panis has made it to 13th but its disaster for Ligier as Irvine outbraked himself at the start and takes of team mate Brundles rear wing! This has caused chaos at the back as Montermini is now last though fellow Forti driver Diniz is 19th. What a start across the grid!

Wendlinger passes Hill on Hangar straight as the Williams is already going backwards through the field. Lap two and Hill tries to pass Wendlinger at the first corner but almost collides and has to brake hard, but Alesi cant slow down in time and hits the back of the Williams taking off Hills rear wing. Hill tries to continue but MORBIDELLI OFF! Hill has tagged Morbidelli at Maggots and they are both in the gravel but the Ferrari keeps going and flies across the track pointing the wrong way! How no cars were involved there is a miracle and testament to the skill of the F1 grid! The crowd gets restless as COULTHARD!!! COULTHARD IS COASTING DOWN HANGAR STRAIGHT! He has gearbox problems already and is out on lap 2 as Nigel Mansell takes the lead in a SEN-SATIONAL British grand prix! He already has his hands full though with Schumachers Sauber but its clear Mansell is being powered by the crowd!

It doesn’t even cover it as we see a clip of the two McLarens and berger also almost collide at Copse on lap 2 when Hakkinen gets past his team mate, but the whole fracas is backing up the field which has been shuffled, with Panis 10th, Letho 11th and De Ferran a magnificent 12th, holding off Irvines Ligier. Lap 3 and Schumacher tries to pass Mansell on the start finish straight and they go side by side into Copse with the Sauber on the inside but Mansell is giving his all and pushes Schumacher almost off the track to hold on to the lead! He holds it bout Schumacher is only inches behind as they make it onto Hangar straight and powers past the Jordan to take the lead on lap 3!

It’s a different story for the other Sauber as Wendlinger, now in 3rd, is holding off an aggressive Alesi while Berger also slips past Martini, who is now holding up Panis in the Pacific. Alesi is quickly past the Sauber on the start of lap 4 at Copse while Berger pulls a more spectacular pass on Hakkinen at the final corner to take 7th. The top 6 so far is Schumacher, Mansell, Alesi, Wendlinger, Zanardi and Frentzen. Panis also outdrags the McLaren to take 9th and is having an impressive race so far. He goes up another place to 8th as Frentzen pushes too hard and breaks his front wing at priory and has to pit at the end of lap 4!

Lap 5 sees a second retirement as Verstappens Tyrrell starts pouring smoke from the back with an Engine failure from 14th place. Theres also a battle for 10th place as Irvine is holding up Letho, De Ferran and Blundell, though the Arrows takes a place from the SImtek on lap 6. Theres a brutal scrap for 15th as Morbidelli, recovering from his incident with Hill, is dualling fiercely with Katayama, the Ferrari not needing to pit for any long term damage. He eventually gets past but not before 2 near-misses with the Japanese driver! His next target is an impressive Diniz who has picked his way through the mayhem to pit his Forti into 14th.

By lap 8 the field has finally settled down as Schumacher extends his lead to Mansell to 5 seconds. Frentzen and Morbidelli continue to charge through the field while Hill and Brundle continue to catch it. De Ferran takes his place back from Blundell as both slip away from Letho in their tit-for-tat battle. It almost comes to an end when De Ferran just about loses control of his Simtek at Priory but catches it in time and stays on the track. However it allows Morbidelli to catch up to the pair and the Ferrari makes short work of the Simtek. However once he passes the Arrows on lap 12 the pair reengage their battle. Morbidelli pits just 1 lap later for his first scheduled fuel stop, explaining why he cut through the field so quickly. Frentzen also catches and passes the Blundell-De Ferran scrap and once more the Arrows and Simtek continue their struggle after the Benetton is through.

Irvine has caught up with 9th placed Martini while Mansell tries to lap Morbidelli but the Ferrari is not playing ball, before the two collide at Bridge! Mansell’s front wing has broken off while Morbidelli again is facing the wrong way on the track! The Stewards will be reinvestigating this one, as Morbidelli knew for a while that Mansell was trying to lap him. The Jordan pit crew however choose to refuel Mansell so they may try using this to their advantage. Irvine bulls off a daring move on Martini from some distance back on Hangar straight but pulls it off and is up to 9th. Good stuff from the Ligier driver, who seems to be trying to make amends for earlier in the race.He is further rewarded as the sister McLaren of Hakkinen pulls over from7th on the next lap to retire as Alesi makes his first pit stop, to rejoin in 6th.

Schumacher makes his first stop on lap 18, losing just one place to team mate Wendlinger, who takes the lead until his first stop at the end of the lap. Berger has managed to catch now 2nd placed Zanardi thanks to traffic and takes the Jordan when exiting Beckitts for 2nd. Once the first stops are done for the 2-stoppers, theres some oddities inb the field including Herbert running 10th in the Simtek! It gets even more shuffled when Mansell runs wide approaching Priory on lap 21 and again breaks his front wing! His once promising home grand prix is falling apart. Berger makes his first stop of the afternoon at the same time. It’s all good news for Panis who has marvellously taken his Pacific up to a lofty 4th place on merit! He is still to stop but surely there will be a smile on his face at this point!

Mansell charges mast Martini at the start of lap 23 while Hill has brilliantly fought his way up to 10th as he passes Irvine. The field is stretched out at the front though with Schumacher 25 seconds ahead of Alesi while De Ferran is the next retiree on lap 25. Berger has caught Panis on lap 26 as the Pacific gallantly tries to hold his place but is no match for the B-Spec Benetton who cruises past on Hangar straight. The Pacific pits on lap 28 with the rest of the one stoppers around this time as well, and comes out in a still commendable 9th place and elevating the recovering Frentzen and Hill to 7th and 8th as Mansell is back in the points. He then goes one further and pass his team mate Zanardi on lap 32 for 5th place.

Mansell again breaks his cars front wing as he pushes the car too hard again at Priory trying to catch Berger and again has to pit and drop himself down the order back to 7th. Schumacher makes his second stop on lap 37 but rejoins still comfortably in the lead while Zanardi makes his second stop one lap later.

With all the fuel stops done by lap 45, Panis is now up to 7th but with Frentzen bearing down on him hard. Panis again is able to hold but only until Hangar straight due to the Ford Zetec’s superior power as Letho spins his Minardi in 13th place when trying to lap Inoue. Berger starts making inroads to Mansell after his second stop dropped him behind the Jordan as Hill also catches and passes Panis, who nonetheless has drove a fantastic race. Morbidelli though is once again raising the ire of drivers trying to lap him as Berger loses precious time to Mansell trying to pass. Morbidelli better watch as he may already be on thin ice. Hill is on a charge as on lap 48 he catches and passes Frentzen for 7th in a last push for the points. Panis almost goes off on lap 51 when the Pacific makes contact with Diniz Forti when trying to lap him, but both are ok as the race quietens down before the finish.

That is until, you guessed it, Mansell comes in with another broken front wing in an increasingly comical effort, thus promoting Damon Hill back into the points after some hard driving while Diniz fails to see the flag when his engine pours heavy smoke before catching fire on lap 58. Theres a battle for the final point though as Mansell is right with Hill, the two going side by side into the first corner on the final lap, but Mansell, with fresh tyres, has the advantage over the Williams and retakes 6th place! Even at the end this race still gives something to keep us on the edge of our seats as Noda comes to a halt on the final lap with transmission trouble..

No such problems for Michael Schumacher as he wins an event littered British Grand Prix. The Sauber driver kept himself clean and made that win look very easy. Alesi is 2nd in similar fashion by keeping his head down and by doing so puts himself and Ferrari up to 3rd in both championships. Wendlinger, the master of consistency, is 3rd in a solid lonely drive to further support Saubers Constructors title. Berger was a hard-charging 4th and thoroughly deserved the 3 points he worked for, as Zanardi takes a career best 5th in a contrasting steady race. Mansell takes the final point after a messy race but in turn pulls level with Coulthard in the championship, who suffered an early retirement.

Also spare some praise for Panis who pushed his Pacific Yamaha for all it had to gain 9th place and undoubtedly deserved better but he can still be happy to have beaten a McLaren on merit. Letho is another one who kept his head down and got on with the job in hand. Morbidelli though will be wondering if he will see the next race as he is under investigation for his collision with Mansell and his general conduct when being lapped.

In the latest exclusion for the 1995 season, Ferrari’s Gianni Morbidelli sees himself landed with a 1 race ban and his results for the British Grand Prix annulled. The stewards, clamping down on poor race etiquette when being lapped, handed the punishment based on the Italians conduct on lap 16 by not allowing Jordans Nigel Mansell past, even though he had known the Jordan was approaching. Later he also held up Berger when the Benetton was lapping him.

“We feel that the punishment is just” said an FIA spokeswoman. “We have stated earlier in the year that we are clamping down on this behaviour and that we will continue to do so”. It is unknown at this point whether Ferrari will appeal but should they decide not to, or fail, then it is likely that test driver Luca Badoer will be favourite for the 2nd seat.

Wizzie:
Your Minardi engineers have tirelessly worked to improve faults in the cars design. This has resulted in a B-Spec car which feature reliability improvements and is ready for both drivers starting at the German grand prix.
Samster: Morbidelli has been banned for 1 race. You can attempt to appeal which may work, or may extend it. Or you can source another driver or promote Badoer or Fisichella (Who the FIA have deemed is sufficiently experienced to now participate in a race) for one race
All Teams: Between the British and German Grand Prix the FIA is running a subsidised free test at Silverstone. This means a free test for all teams which will not use your quota and does not require a test driver. This time there is no restriction on the field you wish to test. You can also perform a private test as well subject to the usual rules.

I will also have the rules for next season posted over the week and before the German GP.

Due to his appalling performance today at Silverstone which saw him take out home favourite, Mansell and his otherwise mediocre performance so far this season. Morbidelli will be sacked with immediate effect. Ferrari will promote Luca Badoer to the #28 for the foreseeable future and may also give Giancarlo Fisichella a few races later on in the season.

No problems, in that case Badoer will be ready for the next Grand Prix

I will have the new rules out this weekend, along with a list of drivers and engines for bids.

For the 1996 season, the same principle as 1995 will apply – each team has a base budget, plus your winnings for your final position in the 1995 Constructors title plus any money remaining at the end of 1995. There is also a small bonus for a team if their driver(s) secure a top 3 position in the 1995 Drivers championship.

Like last season there is a particular order as to how money in and out at the end of the year is applied. IF YOU ARE STILL IN DEBT AFTER WINNINGS HAVE BEEN PAID OUT, YOUR TEAM WILL BE BARRED BY THE FIA FROM THE 1996 SEASON AND YOU ARE OUT OF THE GAME! Regardless of what your base budget for 1996 is! (It does not include debt for any drivers on multi-year contracts or pre-contracts e.g at this point Sauber only have to make sure their winnings cover 12.5m, not 12.5m plus Schumacher and Wendlingers 1996 salary) You can rejoin the game but you will have to join the waiting list.

There are also some additional financial rules that come in to effect at the start of 1996:
If a Team hits 15m or more in debt at any point in 1996 AFTER all pre-season costs are calculated (chassis drivers etc) they will be instantly barred from participating in the F1 World Championship with immediate effect.
Teams can perform in-season testing until they are 10m or more in debt. After that, they will be blocked from doing so (The FIA originally decided 8m but as an introductory year have increased the cap to 10m)
PAY drivers can bring their yearly income BEFORE the end of the season but AFTER the final round if you wish – however this can only be done with pay drivers signing for a full year. In addition if the drivers income is accepted before the start of 1996 you MUST keep him for the entire season, barring exceptional circumstances. If you do not, the drivers sponsors and the FIA will charge you hard via the Contracts Recognition Board.

Order after season finish:
Last race is run
Winnings are paid out
Optional pay driver income is added
Any team still in ANY debt (even by just 1m) are removed from the game
Budget before winnings added to teams account
Chassis costs removed
Driver costs/income is removed/added
Engine costs removed
Check to see if team is 15m in debt – if so, team is removed from the game

CHASSIS DEVELOPMENT
For 1996, the chassis are developed in the same way as 1995. There have been tweaks in values but it works in the exact same way, but to refresh everyone, here it is:

You can choose to invest in 3 areas when building a chassis: Power, Handling and Reliability. Each one does the following:
Power: The maximum power and speed your car can go. However this will also be capped by your engine (See Engine section)
Handling: How easy the car is to handle, including level of grip. The lower the level, the more likely a driver is to perform to his best ability (Not only can this be below 0, below 0 is good!). There is a handling cap for each driver so this can be only be improved to a certain point - drivers are still subject to off-days!
Reliability: The chance of a failure. The lower this is, the less chance of a retirement. This does not include engine reliability, which is added on later (See Engines)

For every million you spend, the RNG will generate the values within the range you pay for (eg the spending 3m on reliability, 2m on power and 4m on handling could create a car with 8265 reliability, 625 quali power, 602 race power and -24 handling)

Don’t expect to max all this out. To have an idea of what a maxed out car is (spending 8m on every area) think McLaren in 1988, Williams in 1992, Ferrari 2002 and Red Bull 2011. These cars are about once a decade, hence why it’s hard to achieve. You CAN test after spending 8m on a field though so the theoretical values are higher/better.

There will also be opportunities for testing, which will improve each area as well. (See testing)

CHASSIS DO NOT NEED TO BE CONFIRMED UNTIL RACE DAY OF THE FINAL RACE OF 1995 so dont rush them – you may want to wait until you know which engine you have signed for!

DRIVER BIDS
The basics of bidding for drivers are similar to 1995. Each team must place a bid for two drivers and optionally bid for a test/3rd driver as well. Teams can choose the length of the contract (up to 3 years) and bid for up to 3 drivers per role. Bidding more money helps your chances, as well as your prestige (again revised taking this year into account but there’s no big changes) and some drivers have additional benefits or criteria (Favoured teams have more chance of landing that driver).

Pay drivers have been expanded on from 1995 and are now more flexible. They will bring the listed amount to the team in one lump sum at the start of the season. However you can request this in advance of the end of 1995 instead but if you do you CANNOT sack the driver without severe repercussions.
Some pay drivers can be signed on a race by race basis. If so, he will bring in the listed income per race amount and will do this until he reaches the upper limit. E.G Taki Inoue may bring on 0.2m for every race he takes part in until he has brought your team 1m. After that he won’t bring in any more unless he performs a full season.

Pay drivers can only sign for 1 year at most. Some may be willing to become test drivers but may have additional criteria to be filled or bring in a reduced income.

The rules for signing a young driver are unchanged - the driver must turn 18 at some point in 1996 to be old enough and no older than 25 before signing.

DRIVER MARKET AND RULES – new so please read!

The drivers market has been changed for 1996 – in an attempt to be more realistic and simulate that not every driver is willing to talk contracts immediately, the driver markets are staggered. The first round of drivers will be available to bid as of now. Once the first round closes, bids will be calculated and any remaining drivers will be added to the pool for the second round in addition to more drivers, and so on. This also simulates other commitments – eg Villeneuve wont be available in the first round of bidding as he is busy with Champcar commitments but he will be in the second round. You DONT have to bid at every round and can wait until even the seasons end if you wish before bidding for any drivers. It is up to you to decide if its better to bid early or wait and see if a better driver becomes available later and risk failing to sign him and signing a less desired driver!

Drivers can also be swapped about mid season. You can have up to 6 drivers in total in a racing seat (test and young don’t count) per year, barring exceptional circumstances (eg injury). Don’t swap a driver promised a full year around too much or they may be unhappy or withhold sponsor money. Drivers can also be loaned to other teams at the agreement of both parties, and the driver.

Cancelling a drivers contract has been made clearer. For 1996, to cancel a drivers contract it will cost x/16th of their contract plus 0.25m, x being each race left in the season. If it’s a multi year contract, then you must add half of each year remaining’s wage on top of this. Drivers may agree mutual termination, which can reduce or even cancel this fee (e.g a driver will likely agree free termination if only 1 race left but wont if 12 races remain)

Cancelling a pay driver is similar – it will cost x/16 of their income + 0.25m. Again mutual termination may apply and again reduce this figure.

As this is new stuff, expect teething problems for this season...

ENGINES

Engine bidding is similar to 1995, with one change – you can now sign an engine for up to 2 years instead of just 1. There has been additions to the engine list and more criteria. To recap current rules:
Engines have a pre-set limit in the qualifying and race power that they provide. This is the maximum power that your car can have, even if your chassis can provide more. This can ONLY be raised by engine manufacturers releasing upgrades. So theres no point in bidding for Renaults if you have spent 1m on Power as you won’t be able to make the most of it. The opposite is also true – 8m on power would be wasted if you then landed Ford ED engines. Although you cannot see the engine values until after you land that engine, use judgement on where you think they will be, in relation to their price and what extra criteria they may have.

Engines also have a reliability rating as well. This is added on to your reliability rating of your chassis. You cannot change engine reliability yourself, again this can only be done by manufacture upgrades.

TESTING

Testing is the same as 1995 but with one extra rule – you can only test a particular field 3 times in a private session (FIA test sessions are not restricted by this). Each test costs 1m. You CANNOT perform private tests without a test or young driver. You can test in Power, Handling and Reliability. B-spec cars (which bring extra benefits in addition to testing) are available after a certain number of private tests and can be further tested on, and testing is the only way gain performance benefits if you have spent 8m on a particular area of the car

There will be 2 free test sessions for each team in pre-season. These ones do not require a test driver. Teams can also elect to do an additional test in pre-season which is subject to the testing rules above.

Please feel free to ask questions or critique - I will see if it can be made a page on the Wiki for easier referral

Important notes
FantometteBR: Diniz is a special case – He is currently signed to you for next season and will bring in his money in advance before the end of 1995. However, to simulate his late jumping ship unexpectedly in real life, there is a chance he may want to leave but will not reveal this until late in the season. This will be subject to a roll of the RNG, with 1-50 being leaves and 51-100 meaning he stays. If he fails, he will go on the driver market but you will be given compensation if he does so for breach of contract.

Samster: Ferrari HQ are opening bids for a Ferrari customer engine. To simulate this and the politics it may bring, you are allowed to refuse one bidder of your choice. For example, Williams bid 5m for the customer engines, Pacific and Arrows bid 4m. You can choose to veto the Williams bid so the RNG will only roll Pacific and Arrows. Alternatively if only e.g Jordan made a bid, you can refuse it entirely. The choice is totally up to you.

All: I have also updated the finances for this season so everybody has the latest numbers to work out finances from. The Driver and Engine markets will close after qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix where results will be rolled, and are open...NOW!
