Toro Rosso will do a double session of Engine power and reliability

We will also offer the test driver seat to any pay driver on offer to fund our shortfall - if he needs a drive then we can arrange a rotation with Yamamoto if needs be!

Well, after doing some research, here's what I came up with in terms of pay drivers.

Option 1: Michael Ammermuller, brings $1.5 million, raced for Super Aguri in the closing moments of 2006, wants to race in 6 races in 2007. You get to pick the six races he will participate in.
Option 2: Ho-Pin Tung, brings $4.5 million from Chinese and Dutch investors, wants to race at China and Spa in 2007.
Option 3: Karun Chadhok, brings $3.5 million, wants to race at Silverstone and three other races that you choose.

Spyker officially cans its F1 engine program after no takers during the offseason

After months of rumors with Carlin, and to a lesser extent Midland. Spyker didn’t get a deal done in time with either of these teams and they were forced to can the f1 engine program as a result of this. Regarding the decision, a spokesperson said that it was a more viable decision for Porsche and Spyker to put the funding into the ALMS program instead of F1.

Prodrive overjoyed about their 1st podium finish in their team history!

After the podium ceremony, David Richards spoke to the BBC and stated that “The whole Prodrive team earned this. We started from $20 million in 2006 and now we got the Mercedes engine along with a better chassis than last year. Things are looking very good right now. However, there’s always room for improvement and it has become clear that we need a better #2 driver soon, we want someone with some F1 experience already under his belt, problem is that our budget is a little tight right now, so we may have to wait a little bit."

Aguri Suzuki’s team is in last place in the team’s standings and with a double-DNF at Bahrain didn’t help matters. Autosport wrote:Toro Rosso ecstatic with Hamiltons performances

Toro Rosso today was singing the praises of their rookie driver Lewis Hamilton. The young Brit started his F1 career with a podium finish, the first for both driver and team, even while suffering mechanical issues mid race, and has continued this with two more points finishes to haul 13 poins for the team after just 3 races. "This is an amazing start to our season" said Franz Tost. "Never did driver or team think we would be sitting where we are now - after last year, we would have been happy with 1 point at this stage! A big well done to Lewis, the whole team who have built an improved car, and to Renault for supplying a competitive engine"

Its not all good news though as the team could end up being a victim of its own success - Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso's parent team have been rumoured to be keeping an eye on Hamiltons performances, possibly to promote to the main team should their main driver, 1997 champion Jacques Villeneuve retire at the end of the season. Tost though, was optimistic: " We are all concentrating on the next race and this season" he commented "We are happy, Lewis appears to be happy and thats what matters. We will only worry about any possible scenarios when or if they arise"

Round 4 Imola

Finally, we are back in Europe! The venue is Imola, and there are strong rumors around the paddock that it might be the last time that the F1 circus visits this circuit, unless it turns out to be a great thriller. So, let’s get it going!

Qualifying results:

1 Fernando Alonso 1:22.367
2 Jarno Trulli +1.194
3 Lewis Hamilton +1.244
4 Pedro De la Rosa +1.333
5 Sebastian Vettel +1.379

7 Juan Pablo Montoya +1.464
8 Michael Schumacher +1.472
9 Nick Heidfeld +1.710
10 Nico Rosberg +1.769
11 Robert Kubica +2.031
12 Ralf Schumacher +2.109
13 Mark Webber +2.152
14 Christian Klien +2.280
15 Felipe Massa +2.670
16 Scott Speed +2.700
17 Jacques Villeneuve +2.704

23 Giedo Van der Garde +3.369
24 Christijan Albers +3.442
25 EJ Viso +3.487
26 Sakon Yamamoto +3.969

Trulli finally got a good lap together in qualifying for once this season, he will start 2nd. Likewise, Kubica also had a promising session, he will start 11th. Speed will start 16th in his third F1 race. Finally, give a nod to Takuma Sato, he punched above his own weight to start 20th, guess that pep talk by Aguri Suzuki helped!

Race Summary:

At the end of the first lap, it was Alonso leading Hamilton, with vettel 3rd and Heidfeld charging up the field up to 4th. Lap 17, Vettel had to pit for a tire change and software glitch at the same time. Lap 19, Rosberg’s transmission failed. Lap 26, Hamilton had an engine failure from 2nd. Lap 41, Sato’s engine blew up. A couple laps later, a very scary moment happened. Massa got wide at turn 9 while being overtaken by Heikki, and then when Massa got back on track. Fisichella from the left side and Webber from behind collided with Massa, a broken wrist and a messed up back that required surgery afterwards. As a result Massa will miss the remainder of this season, what a sad break for Carlin. As a result the FIA launched a safety probe into the incident to determine if anyone else was at fault. Lap 48, Ralf had an engine problem and retired. Lap 56, Kimi and De la Rosa both had engines failure from 4th and 5th. 3 laps to go, Heikki’s engine also let go. In the end, it’s 4 wins in 4 races for Alonso

Fastest Lap: Fernando Alonso 1:25.222

Paddock News:

FIA concludes that GC Fisichella was at fault for causing avoidable injuries to Massa. Avoids a race ban, by giving his seat to Petrov for the in-season test at Imola.

After extensive interviews and data collection, the FIA determined that GC Fisichella tried overtaking Mark Webber at the same lap and place as Massa went off track. While Massa tried to get back on track, he was collected by Fisichella and Webber at the same time. Webber did back off before hitting Massa, so Webber avoids any further action by the Stewards, but FIsichella didn’t back off thinking that the marshals waved the yellow flag after his overtaking move was successful, which was the case. But since the collision was indeed avoidable, he will be disqualified from the race results and be given 3 penalty points on his Super license. In return, Fisichella will give up his seat to Vitaly Petrov for the upcoming in-season test.

As a remainder, the in-season test at Imola is coming up soon. So, you have until Monday to post your upgrade plans on here.

Lap 19, Kubica Spun off at turn 4 and damaged his front wing, requiring a pit stop. Lap 24, Scott speed lost it coming out of turn 3, and spun off requiring an early pit stop for a broken front wing. On the same lap, Sato’s engine gave up. On lap 31, Schumacher’s transmission failed while leading, so he was out. While this was going on, Yamamoto’s tranny also gave the ghost. A few moments later, De La Rosa’s Tranny also failed. Vettel lost yet another front wing on Lap 34. Lap 38, Villeneuve had to pit for a Right-rear puncture. ROTR: Front wings flying off everywhere! When Vettel loses three of them, and a few others joining in the trend, that’s just simply comical!

Paddock News:

Red Bull Racing finally relieved that they scored a point

After the race, Dr. Helmut Marko said to the press that the whole team’s morale just got a lot better after scoring their first point of the season. Elaborating further, “Yes, knowing that the Cosworth V8 is so low on power so being able to hang on to 8th on a track that requires a lot of power is a big deal for us. Regarding their junior team, Toro Rosso’s success early on, Marko Said, “Look, I don’t want to get beaten by our own junior team Toro Rosso, but give them some credit for hiring the right driver, Hamilton and the right engine. It’s embarrassing to get your butt kicked but we just have to keep fighting along.”
