F1 Rejects Football World Cup

Post by WaffleCat »

I've been on the forums quite a while, and I've seen some failed attempts at football leagues trying to spring up over the past year or two, which all didn't take off due to lack of time, or too many logistics to solve by both player and organiser. Well, I have something really simple and deathly easy to organise. And I like simplicity. But I like gimmicks. So I added one, and here it is…
------------------------------------------------------
F1 Rejects World Cup

How to participate
Say you're entering. Pick ANY Fifa-Affiliated national team of your choice. I run the matches. Check your results. Get pissed or get pleased. Repeat in the next game.

How it's run
32 Teams. Home and Away single-elimination knockout. Random opponent draw at each round. If tied at the end of both legs with no away goal advantage, a third neutral game is played in Qatar. Because no one ever picks Qatar. And no one wants to go there, so support is even. Games simulated on Footy Simulator

The Catch:Team Stealing

Say you pick Malaysia. Your opponent is Singapore. You beat Singapore. You have the option of 'stealing' the team, which means you can play as Singapore for the next game.

Team Steals are only allowed ONCE this tournament, and must be stated in this thread. And, if you make it to the semi-finals, you have to use your Team Steal beforehand, otherwise you are forced to steal the team you beat in the Quarter-Finals. Good if you beat Argentina, bad if you beat Aruba.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Got it? Simple? Good. Now time for you guys to enter.

Updated entry list, and we already have sixteen entries. I could start the tournament earlier, maybe even today if there are no more entries/entries slow down, but I'll leave the signups open in case more entries fly in.

Round 1--Qualifying

Post by WaffleCat »

Alright, Friday, Noon, and entries are CLOSED

And, as you can see, we have an odd number of entrants for a competition. But no worries, I had this taken to account…
---------------------------------------------
F1RFWC Round 1: Qualifying

Format
The first sixteen entrants are placed in pool 1. Those that enter after the first sixteen will be in pool 2. All entrants in pool 2 are automatically entered into this qualifying round. Then, using the magical RNG, teams from pool 1 are randomly assigned to face those in pool 2. Numbers to the right of pool 2 teams indicate their RNG number.

Home and away legs, if drawn with no away goal advantage, then proceed to third leg.

Team Steals are ALLOWED in qualifying.

FIXTURES:
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Bahrain (HawkAussie) vs Austria (Hermann95)(9)
Bahrain are the first team outside of the first sixteen entrants, and they are a tougher challenge than you'd expect, having made it to the 2006 and 2010 intercontinental FIFA World Cup play-offs. However, they have had a bit of a downturn in form as of late. Their selected opponents, Austria, have been on an opposite run of form, having seen a resurgence in their team that currently places them top of their group for Euro 2016 qualification. As such, expect an Austrian victory here, but don't count Bahrain out to give them a challenge.

Finland (Ice1Racing) vs Germany (roblomas)(11)
This match looks like a shoo-in for the mighty Germans, undoubtedly the favourites for the tournament. They would still need to put in at least a bit of effort to beat Finland though, who can very much hold their own on a good day. Let's hope both matches are good days for Finland then.

Vanuatu (AustralianStig) vs San Marino (mrfakeboullier)(2)
Vanuatu are around middle of the pack in the OFC, but since that region only has New Zealand as a decent opponent, you can tell the quality of Vaunatu football. So imagine their sighs of relief when they drew San Marino, probably the worst team in footballing history. One thing San Marino has, though, is a lot of heart, and I personally wouldn't be surprised if this fixture goes down to the wire.

Indonesia (FMecha) vs Costa Rica (Wizzie)(15)
Indonesia are a respected team in their reigon, being a constant contender for the AFF Suzuki Cup (formerly Tiger Cup) since its inception. However, they have been on a heavy downward spiral since, failing to make it out of their 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup Group and losing 10-0 to Bahrain in World Cup qualification. And when facing a rising team like Costa Rica after their impressive World Cup showing, Indonesia look to be in real danger of being eliminated in the qualifiers.

Faroe Islands (Shadaza) vs Gibraltar(13)
As far as minnows go in Europe, Faroe Islands aren't exactly the worst out there, and neither is Gibraltar. However, last time these two met, the Faroe Islands left triumphant, running away 4-1 victors. You may never know what can happen though, so look forward to this being an even match up.
------------------------------------------

Good luck to everyone involved, and have fun!

Round 1: Qualifying Matches

Post by WaffleCat »

Bahrain vs Austria

1st Leg @ Bahrain: Bahrain 0-3 Austria
Goalscorers:
0-1 Striker (9) 1 mins
0-2 Striker (9) 52 mins
0-3 Striker (9) 86 mins

2nd Leg @ Austria: Austria 1-0 Bahrain
Goalscorers:
1-0 Left Back (3) 7 mins

Aggregate: Bahrain 0-4 Austria

The first qualifying matchup went pretty much how everyone expected it to be, with Austria easily disposing of Bahrain, helped by their striker's hat-trick in the first leg having practically scored from kick-off after a mistake in the Bahraini defence. The Austrians chose to settle back in their home leg, but still picked up victory after an early corner headed powerfully in by their left-back.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Finland vs Germany

1st Leg @ Finland: Finland 2-7 Germany
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 30 mins
1-1 Midfielder (8) 39 mins
1-2 Forward (10) 41 mins
2-2 Left Back (3) 46 mins
2-3 Centre Back (4) 49 mins
2-4 Right Winger (7) 56 mins
2-5 Midfielder (8) 72 mins
2-6 Forward (10) 73 mins
2-7 Midfielder (8) 79 mins

2nd Leg @ Germany: Germany 2-0 Finland
Goalscorers:
1-0 Right Winger (7) 5 mins
2-0 Forward (10) 53 mins

Aggregate: Finland 2-9 Germany

Talk about asserting their dominance. Germany have just proved why they are the hot favourites to win this competition after a fantastic 7-2 rout against Finland in the first leg.. Initially the Finnish were holding on to their own, but the Germans started firing like the blitz after their third goal. By the fourth, the Finnish started to look frightened. By the fifth, their flags looked more like white flags. By the sixth, the home crowd were practically saying "Stop! We're already dead!". And then Germany went to hammer in a seventh. They then mercifully kicked back a few gears in their home leg, yet still ran away victors. This was not a fixture for Germany. It was a statement.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Vanuatu vs San Marino

1st Leg @ Vanuatu: Vanuatu 2-1 San Marino
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 56 mins
1-1 Right Winger (7) 68 mins
2-1 Left Winger (11) 89 mins

2nd Leg @ San Marino: San Marino 1-2 Vanuatu
Goalscorers:
1-0 Right Winger (7) 2 mins
1-1 Left Winger (11) 15 mins
1-2 Right Winger (7) 24 mins

Aggregate: Vanuatu 4-2 San Marino

From the powerhouse of Germany we go to the minnows of Vanuatu and San Marino, and boy, apart from the first half of the first leg, they put on an absolute spectacle. San Marino were on course for a great draw for them in the first leg, and had an attack late in that match to potentially see themselves win. One miscontrolled ball and a Vanuatuan counter attack saw San Marino go into their home leg a goal down. Miraculously, they scored after 2 minutes, but Vanuatu got back later the first half, and try as they might, San Marino were out and Vanuatu were in.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Indonesia vs Costa Rica

1st Leg @ Indonesia: Indonesia 0-5 Costa Rica
Goalscorers:
0-1 Forward (10) 44 mins
0-2 Left Winger (11) 59 mins
0-3 Forward (10) 65 mins
0-4 Forward (10) 71 mins
0-5 Forward (10) 85 mins

2nd Leg @ Costa Rica: Costa Rica 4-1 Indonesia
Goalscorers:
1-0 Forward (10) 4 mins
1-1 Striker (9) 24 mins
2-1 Forward (10) 49 mins
3-1 Forward (10) 55 mins
4-1 Left Winger (11) 71 mins

Aggregate: Indonesia 1-9 Costa Rica

Indonesia, meet Costa Rica's forward. He scores goals. Lots of them. Four in the first game, a hat-trick in the second, he could have beat Indonesia all by himself. But with his teammates, Costa Rica mauled Indonesia over both legs, and all the poor Indonesians could possibly do was sit and hope their next tournament goes better than this.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Faroe Islands vs Gibraltar

1st Leg @ Faroe Islands: Faroe Islands 0-1 Gibraltar
Goalscorers:
0-1 Forward (10) 27 mins

2nd Leg @ Gibraltar: Gibraltar 1-4 Faroe Islands
Goalscorers:
0-1 Left Winger (11) 11 mins
0-2 Right Back (2) 41 mins
0-3 Striker (9) 49 mins
0-4 Right Back (2) 81 mins
1-4 Forward (10) 81 mins

Aggregate: Faroe Islands 4-2 Gibraltar

Gibraltar may be out, but they handed the shock of the tournament so far. Yes, they did just beat the Faroe Islands in their home ground. And, coming into their second leg at home, they seemed all right to progress into the second leg. Then they conceded, one. Then two. Then three, four. By the time Gibraltar got back one more, it was back to a lost cause for Gibraltar, as the Faroese arrived to the rock with fire in their bellies and left with a ticket to the round of 16.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Now then, Team Steals are available for teams progressing from this qualifying round.. Just report by Monday whether you want to steal a team or not. If you don't report by Monday, I assume that you don't want to use it yet, and move on to the round of 16.

Round of 16 Draw

Post by WaffleCat »

F1RFWC Round 2: Round of 16

Format
All teams not selected from pool 2 in the previous round and those teams that have won their fixtures in Round 1 participate in this round. Each fixture is a home and away fixture, away goal rules apply. Should there be a tie, a neutral third leg is played on a neutral pitch somewhere in Qatar. Team Steals are allowed in this round, and remember in the rules that Team Steals need to be used before the semi-finals.

FIXTURES:
----------------------------------------------
Australia (TheFlyingCaterham) vs Germany (roblomas52)
Germany may be the powerhouse to beat in this tournament, but they've faced a tough first round draw in the form of a strong Oceanic… sorry, Asian team in Australia. This could also be an interesting match for either roblomas52 or TheFlyingCaterham, as they could potentially use their team steal here should they be saddled with weaker opposition like Vanuatu in the quarter-final,and be forced to use them in the semis. The choice, though, is all up to them.

Norway (UgncreativeUsergname) vs Belgium (andrew)
Norway may have been the only team never to lose to Brazil, but that record may not help them against Belgium, who are on a resurgence after failing to make the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. and possessing some star power in their team. However, for Belgium, Norway is not an easy opponent to beat, but expect a Belgian win if you really need to put money on this game.

Cyprus (Klon) vs Austria (Hermann95)
Normally, you don't think of Cypriot football as top-class. Rather, they're the team you'd only remember in a group for having a funny name, not for being good and simultaneously not for sucking so much their fans pass out of oxygen deprivation. Recently, though, they have had a run of good form, but don't expect that to continue against Austria, fresh and full of form after a win against Bahrain.

Scotland (Collieafc) vs Colombia (takagi_for_the_win)
Tough luck, Scotland. In a competition which features teams like Luxembourg, Korea DPR and Faroe Islands, you draw the team that could potentially win the entire damn thing in Colombia. While manager Collieafc can look forward to a healthy Team Steal, first he'd have to beat Colombia. And that is a difficult task in itself. Tough luck, Scotland.

Korea DPR (peteroli34) vs Albania (RedEyes504)
These two teams could have had worse opposition. They seemingly breathed a collective sigh of relief when they drew each other. Yet this is no easy task for either team. They can make it, if and only if they play their A-game both legs. One slip up can lead to one goal either way. And in the F1RFWC, that means a lot. Good luck to them.

New Zealand (V8Fan12) vs Luxembourg (This)
The All-Whites can easily steamroll past Luxembourg, but bear in mind they have yet to win a match since September of last year. And their opponents for the past year haven't been terribly tough, having faced the likes of Thailand, Uzbekistan and UAE. All losses. And with that in mind, Luxembourg stand quite a chance against New Zealand.

Vanuatu (AustralianStig) vs Faroe Islands (Shadaza)
Now this is an interesting draw. Both teams have a shot to go through to the Quarter-Finals. And with that guarantee, whichever manager faces the winner of this fixture and has yet to play a Team Steal will have to steal this team, as Team Steals must be played before the Semi-Finals. Anyway, both teams will be thanking their lucky stars for this matchup, but it looks like Faroe Islands are very slim favourites to progress to the Quarter-Finals

Czech Republic (Reject_Dom) vs Costa Rica (Wizzie)
The Czech Republic are kinda hard to judge as a team. They're always there, you know they're a good team, but they have had their unpredictable slips in form on some occasions, and they've somehow only qualified for one cup as the Czech Republic. Costa Rica will hope to catch the Czech Republic on their bad day, otherwise this will be a challenging fixture for them.

Australia vs Germany (TheFlyingCaterham vs roblomas52)

1st Leg @ Australia: Australia 2-5 Germany
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 16 mins
1-1 Right Back (2) 49 mins
1-2 Striker (9) 57 mins
2-2 Striker (9) 60 mins
2-3 Striker (9) 60 mins
2-4 Forward (10) 71 mins
2-5 Midfielder (8) 77 mins

2nd Leg @ Germany: Germany 3-1 Australia
Goalscorers:
1-0 Right Back (2) 7 mins
2-0 Striker (9) 10 mins
3-0 Right Back (2) 63 mins
3-1 Forward (10) 75 mins

Aggregate: Australia 3-8 Germany

Things were looking promising for Australia in the first half of the first leg, one-nil up on home turf. That was until Germany attacked. 135 minutes later, Germany had slotted eight past the Australians, five on their own turf, to make this yet another rout for the Germans. Poor Australians.

Norway vs Belgium (UgncreativeUsergname vs andrew)

1st Leg @ Norway: Norway 1-0 Belgium
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 67 mins

2nd Leg @ Belgium: Belgium 1-0 Norway
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 4 mins

Aggregate: Norway 1-1 Belgium

3rd Leg @ Qatar: Norway 0-3 Belgium
Goalscorers:
0-1 Forward (10) 44 mins
0-2 Midfielder (8) 59 mins
0-3 Forward (10) 72 mins

The first fixture to end with a tie on aggregate, the two European teams played fairly timid football, though all credit to Norway for picking up the home win. When they met in the third game, though, it was Belgium all the way, taking a 3-0 victory to see Belgium and manager andrew through into the Quarter-Finals.

Cyprus vs Austria (Klon vs Hermann95)

1st Leg @ Cyprus: Cyprus 0-2 Austria
Goalscorers:
0-1 Striker (9) 42 mins
0-2 Striker (9) 59 mins

2nd Leg @ Austria: Austria 5-1 Cyprus
Goalscorers:
1-0 Right Winger (7) 19 mins
2-0 Forward (10) 25 mins
3-0 Midfielder (8) 43 mins
3-1 Right Winger (7) 66 mins
4-1 Centre Back (5) 67 mins
5-1 Forward (10) 71 mins

Aggregate: Cyprus 1-7 Austria

Cyprus looked alright at their home leg, 2-0 being a not bad result for them. Away, though, was a completely different story. The Austrians didn't care if they had the advantage, they dictated every single aspect of this game. When the Cypriot net finally stopped shaking, Austria had slotted five past in the second leg, seven on aggregate, with the opposition only managing one.

Scotland vs Colombia (Collieafc vs takagi_for_the_win)

1st Leg @ Scotland: Scotland 1-1 Colombia
Goalscorers:
1-0 Midfielder (8) 56 mins
1-1 Striker (9) 60 mins

2nd Leg @ Colombia: Colombia 0-3 Scotland
Goalscorers:
0-1 Centre Back (5) 32 mins
0-2 Right Back (2) 66 mins
0-3 Midfielder (8) 83 mins

Aggregate: Scotland 4-1 Colombia

I eat my words with humble pie. I'd be goddamned. An emphatic victory for Scotland. A meager whimper from the Colombians. I won't even tell you what happened in the game. The score says it all. The second leg was pure brilliance from Scotland.
-----------------------------------------

Korea DPR vs Albania (peteroli34 vs RedEyes504)

1st Leg @ Korea DPR: North Korea 1-0 Albania
Goalscorers:
1-0 Right Winger (7) 5 mins

2nd Leg @ Albania: Albania 1-1 North Korea
Goalscorers:
0-1 Right Winger (7) 67 mins
1-1 Forward (10) 73 mins

Aggregate: Korea DPR 2-1 Albania

Not a major shock per se, but one would have expected the Albanians to progress to the Quarter-Finals. But manager peteroli34 and his North Korean squad took the early lead at home, and held their own away when it mattered. Good job, Korea DPR.
-----------------------------------------

New Zealand vs Luxembourg (V8Fan12 vs This)

1st Leg @ New Zealand: New Zealand 3-1 Luxembourg
Goalscorers:
1-0 Right Winger (7) 5 mins
2-0 Right Back (2) 8 mins
3-0 Forward (10) 17 mins
3-1 Forward (10) 22 mins

2nd Leg @ Luxembourg: Luxembourg 2-0 New Zealand
Goalscorers:
1-0 Forward (10) 27 mins
2-0 Left Winger (11) 28 mins

Aggregate: New Zealand 3-3 Luxembourg (away goals rule)

If Scotland stunning Colombia or Korea DPR kissing Albania goodbye wasn't shocking enough, how about THIS. Luxembourg beating any team. New Zealand for that matter. Even though the Luxembourgish forward may have thought his goal in the first game was just a consolation, it turned out to be the decider, as two quick goals and massive defensive efforts kept New Zealand at bay for an amazing,if away goals, win for Luxembourg.
-----------------------------------------

Vanuatu vs Faroe Islands (AustralianStig vs Shadaza)

1st Leg @ Vanuatu: Vanuatu 0-1 Faroe Islands
Goalscorers:
0-1 Striker (9) 27 mins

2nd Leg @ Faroe Islands: Faroe Islands 2-1 Vanuatu
Goalscorers:
1-0 Striker (9) 6 mins
1-1 o.g. 61 mins
2-1 Striker (9) 66 mins

Aggregate: Vanuatu 1-3 Faroe Islands

Unusual for one person to score all four goals in a two-legged fixture. Even more unusual that one of them was an own goal. Even more unusual that the timestamps for his last two goals were 6,66. That last fact probably didn't matter, but the Faroe Islands did indeed give Vanuatu hell, and onward they go into the Quarter-Finals.
-----------------------------------------

Czech Republic vs Costa Rica (Reject_Dom vs Wizzie)

1st Leg @ Czech Republic: Czech Republic 3-1 Costa Rica
Goalscorers:
1-0 Right Winger (7) 12 mins
2-0 Forward (10) 37 mins
2-1 Left Winger (11) 65 mins
3-1 Midfielder (8) 70 mins

2nd Leg @ Costa Rica: Costa Rica 0-0 Czech Republic

Aggregate: Czech Republic 3-1 Costa Rica

Ahhh....what did I say about catching the Czechs on a bad day? They had two great days against Costa Rica. In the first leg, a tremendous attacking effort to put them two goals ahead. In the second, some great defending to prevent them doing a New Zealand and onwards they go into the Quarter-Finals.

Well then, to roblomas52, andrew, Hermann95, Collieafc, peteroli34, This, Shadaza and Reject_Dom, do you wish to use your Team Steal? Bear in mind, you must use it before the semi-finals, and you can use it only once. Easy to choose, hard to think about.*mindgames*
My friend's USB drive spoiled, spilled tea on her laptop and had a bird poo in her hand.

What did she do in her past life to deserve this?

Well, here's hoping the Faroe Islands can take something from Luxembourg and give a good result for the Nordic countries.

Does listening to a dog licking its balls get you excited?
