Post by JJMonty »

RTL France and L'equipe are posting on Twitter that Jean Pierre Beltoise has died - anyone else found an official news article about this? :?

It's true. (English article.) Aged 77, he died of two vascular accidents/strokes near Dakar in Senegal.

RIP.

Well, R.I.P Jean-Pierre. Honestly, he seems to be a bit like the Fisichella of the 70's. Great in under-performing cars, but when he got a top ride, with Matra in 1969, he wasn't quite there. Still, a bloody good driver.

RIP (how is it written in French this expression?)

One of my favorite drivers from the ones I couldn't see live. Wished he had a 'better career' in F1 (aka more than one win)

Axel's post in the HWNSNBM forum was where I saw the first hint of this. The sad face led me to fear the worst, and I'm sad to say that fear was confirmed. Quite naturally it's always sad to see a driver, or indeed any human being depart this life. Jean-Pierre managed to survive an era that took the likes of Jochen Rindt and Jim Clark. For that at least we can be grateful, and he will always be remembered for that epic win in Monaco.

Rest in peace Jean-Pierre Maurice Georges Beltoise.

Rest in Peace Jean-Pierre Beltoise. You're drive at Monaco was certainly one of the best in the 1970s. Everyone was going out in that race, but he pressed on to take the win. It was his only win, but he did it at the most prestigious race of them all, and that alone is worth remembering.

RIP J-P B. One of the first races I ever saw "live" (F2) had him, Servoz-Gavin & Ickx in Matras, giving some big names something to think about. I always think of them together and now only Jacky is left. (Ickx won and his successful career began then really).
