Official 2017 Season Preview

2017 Formula 1 Season Preview - Don't Stop Me Now

After last year saw the introduction of crazy technology, this year will see the engineers work to perfect things. After pre-season testing at the Hungaroring, we have gained a picture of what to expect. However, one thing will not change, technology or not: 26 drivers want the world title, only one can have it.

Rule Changes:
- With the aim of increasing competitiveness throughout the field, the FIA has ruled that teams may not use their last upgrade token before the 11th weekend.
- If a team is not able to pay the WCC penalty for 10 penalty points, instead of a one-race ban, the team will lose as many points as they can before they get to zero with the rest being converted into a grid penalty for both cars of the team in the next race.

Season Calendar:
Budweiser United States Grands Prix – Streets of Las Vegas – 4/5 March
Magneti Marelli Japanese Grands Prix – Okayama International Circuit - 18/19 March
Airtel Indian Grands Prix – Buddh International Circuit – 8/9 April
Marlboro Bahrain Grands Prix – Bahrain International Circuit – 22/23 April
Cyta Cyprus Grands Prix – Akrotiri Bay International Circuit – 13/14 May
Allianz Magyar Futamok – Hungaroring – 27/28 May
Große Vodafone Preise von Deutschland – Nürburgring – 15/16 July
Vauxhall Adam British Grands Prix – Donington Park – 22/23 July
Ticketek Australian Grands Prix – Surfers Paradise Street Circuit - 5/6 August
Kawasaki Pacific Grands Prix – Sonoma Raceway – 19/20 August
Grandes Premios Telmex de Mexico – Parque Fundidora – 26/27 August
Große Red Bull Preise von Österreich – Red Bull Ring – 9/10 September
Gran Premi Agip d'Italia - Autodromo Nazionale Monza – 16/17 September
Hitachi European Grands Prix – Silverstone National Circuit – 23/24 September
Grandes Premios Canon de España – Circuito de Jerez – 7/8 October
Mubadala Abu Dhabi Grands Prix – Yas Marina Circuit – 14/15 October
Shell Chemicals Russian Grands Prix – Irkutsk Speedway – 21/22 October
Petrobras Brazilian Grands Prix – Autódromo Internacional Orlando Moura – 4/5 November

Nationality Condition - The sponsor will support you and demand a driver of a certain nationality be signed. This condition will pay out €45,000,000.
Statistic Condition - The sponsor will support you and very specific demands regarding the achievements of one of your driver. This condition will pay out €30,000,000.
No Condition - The sponsor will support you without asking for anything but a spot on your car. This condition will pay out €15,000,000.

Any driver demands go for one year and are only fulfilled if the designated driver is having a full-time drive. You may sign a driver meeting the demands for longer than that, but it will not assure you sponsorship for the next seasons. Please note that if you fail to meet the Advancement Condition, you will have to pay the entire sum back to the company. No team needs to agree to the Advancement Condition to survive, any team that would is declared bankrupt. For the other conditions, you must not decide on the condition right now, the money for whatever condition you fulfill will be added to your account after you have signed your drivers. Further note that age-related clauses mean "age at the first race of the F1 season" (March 4, 2017). As you may have noted, all teams from last year have the choice to retain their sponsor. From now on, retaining a sponsor will be possible for two years, i.e. any team that picks their 2016 sponsor again must choose a new one for 2018.

For these two elements, please fill out this formula until January 22, 7:15 p.m. CET

Code: Select all

Team: Obvious
Chosen Sponsor:
Advancement Condition: Yes/No

FIA Young Drivers Draft

To both encourage teams to give new drivers a chance and to ensure sponsorship is not the decisive element in drivers getting F1 drives, the FIA has designed the FIA Young Drivers Draft. 25 drivers from all over the world have accepted invitations by the FIA to become part of this event.

Europe:
Emil Sawan-Montag (Germany)
Igor Walilko (Poland)
Max Verstappen (Netherlands)
Ryan Cotman (United Kingdom) - DEC owned by normal32
Thomas Butler (United Kingdom) - DEC owned by Londoner

North America:
Conor Daly (USA)
Matthew Brabham (USA)
Maxx Ebenal (Canada)
Scott Hargrove (Canada)
Spencer Pigot (USA)

South America:
Daniel Serra (Brazil)
Federico Cavagnero (Argentina)
Jorge Bas Viguera (Chile)
Mauro Giallombardo (Argentina)
Victor Franzoni (Brazil)

Asia:
Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Saud (Saudi Arabia)
Kevin Tse (Macau)
Ryo Hirakawa (Japan)
Shigetomo Shimono (Japan)
Vishnu Prasaad (India)

Oceania & Africa:
Anton de Pasquale (Australia)
Ash Blewett (New Zealand)
David Sera (Australia)
Naomi Schiff (South Africa)
Rajbir Rai (Kenya)

Now, each team can pick one of these. The order of picks was determined in a weighted lottery a few days after the end of the season and is as follows.

Draft Order:
1st pick : Calinetic
2nd pick : Valerian
3rd pick : Mahindra
4th pick : Ferrari
5th pick : DGN
6th pick : Brabham
7th pick : Peugeot
8th pick : Haas
9th pick : Sauber
10th pick : Red Bull
11th pick : Precision
12th pick : Caterham
13th pick : Williams

After each team has picked a young driver, they have a so-called right of first refusal for the next four years (i.e. the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 season). That means that if their driver gets a contract offer from another team, the drafting team may choose to match that offer and sign the driver themselves. Furthermore, a drafted young driver may not refuse the contract offer of the team that drafted him during those four years unless it violates the rules of Formula One. Generally, the following holds true: if your drafted driver is approached mid-season, the right of first refusal does not force you to sack one of your drivers to keep him. Instead, matching that offer will mean his contract starts as soon as one driver contract of your team runs out; also, you are required to match the offer in all details, wage, contract length and position, i.e. you can't match a race drive offer with a friday drive (more on that later) offer (although you can offer a race drive to match a friday drive). Any team that signs their drafted driver for a racing contract at the start of any season during the team's right of first refusal is given a €10,000,000 bonus.

Please send a list of your draft choices to me using the forum message system with message header "F1 Draft" until January 22, 7:15 p.m. CET. Please list at least as many possible choices as needed for your position in the draft (e.g. 11 for Precision), since you will forfeit your draft pick and be subject to a €5,000,000 fine if you don't have a valid draft option. If you wish to sell or give your draft pick to another team, post any agreements in this thread or inform me about them with the usual ways.

RejectSport wrote:Cassidy: "I need to improve for 2017"

Following an ultimately disappointing 2016 season for American Dave Cassidy, where the Indiana-native finished a distant 3rd to teammate and eventual champion Lewis Hamilton, he has stated that he will have to drive better in 2017 if he wishes to claim his first World Championship.

"I never like saying that I lost because of bad luck or anything like that. And while I did have more car problems than Lewis [Hamilton], there were way too many days where he was just plain faster than me. If I'm ever gonna be World Champion, I can't let that happen again. I need to improve if I want a better shot than I got this year."

Cassidy's statement comes in a time of uncertainty - whilst he is expected to be retained by Williams for the upcoming season, there are question marks over whether reigning World Champion Hamilton will remain as well. With whispers that relations between the Brit and senior management at Williams has broken down since the Abu Dhabi Grands Prix in late October, rumours are placing Daniel Ricciardo or Robin Frijns in the seat alongside Cassidy for 2017. But whoever is in the seat, Cassidy remains unwavering in his resolve to perform at a higher level.

"Whoever's in the seat alongside me, they're gonna be tough to beat," Cassidy went on to say, "Everybody with any sense wants that seat, and Frank's not in the business of hiring slouches."

*******************************************************************

Car Market
Here's the Price table

>> Step 1: Buying an engine
We have four manufacturers available for your choice if you happen to be a customer team. I will explain the columns:
Company should be self-explainatory. The type of engine describes, whether you are purchasing a V10 NA engine or an I4 turbo engine and BHP states its power in qualifying and race. CFP means Car Failure Probability, i.e. it's a fancy term for reliability. The higher it is, the more likely your car is to retire from a race. With the engine freeze, the engine performanc is locked for the next two seasons.
From now on you purchase your engines from the works teams, i.e. you negotiate the engine deal with the user owning the works team. These are as follows:

Ferrari - pasta_maldonado
Judd - kevinbotz
Mercedes - wizzie
Peugeot - phoenix

What is important for the works teams is the value Average Price on the price sheet found in the opening post. This is the average price you must meet for all engines you sell (both to customers team and to yourself). You may sell some above that price or below that price, but the average stays the same. For every million you take in over the average, your engine get -50 CFP (capped at -750 CFP). For every million you are below the average, your engine gets +400 CFP (capped at +12800 CP) - this value applies to all customers, not only those that pay too much/too little. You may also name clauses your customers (or the works team) must fulfill, whilst also determining contract length. Each manufacturers is limited to three customer teams (not including the works team itself).

>> Step 2: Developing a chassis
Explaining the columns as well: Upgrades replace testing (to a point, there will be one mid-season test - this time for real), the upgrades are in the right top of the table. Updates can be applied at any time from after the first weekend until the day before the start of the final GP weekend of the season. Upgrades will only be applied before the start of the next weekend and you may only apply one upgrade per weekend. Furthermore note that half of the upgrades you do not use are carried over to the next season. You may never have more than three upgrades more than your chassis type permits. The lower chassis have a higher number of possible upgrades to counter the fact that the higher chassis types are more expensive. Please note that from this season on, the final upgrade may not be used before the start of the eleventh Grand Prix weekend. Max Grip determines the highest amount of grip possible, your car won't have more grip than that value, no matter what, even if you had HWNSNBM himself driving the vehicle. An RNG will determine that value once you have decided on a chassis type. CFP is the same as with engines - the lower the number the more likely your car is to finish.

>> Step 3: Arranging brothels
Explaining the columns for the third time: Max Grip increases the max grip value of your chassis for the last third of the season. Range is the value that is added on to the Random Grip Range, i.e. the value used by the game to determine inconsistency. The higher that value, the more likelier your driver is to have a bad day. Unlike last season, you must make your brothel selection before the start of the year and may not change it.

Alright, please fill out this until Tuesday, January 27 (11:00 p.m. CET) and post it in this thread. Once you have posted the data, editing your post is forbidden unless I allow you to:

Code: Select all

Team:
Engine: Ferrari/Judd/Mercedes/Peugeot
Price: €???,???,???
Contract Length: X Years
Chassis: A/B/C/D
Brothels: High Class/Low Class/None

Please note that I need a confirmation of the works team that an agreement has been reached. Please make sure the users controlling the works team takes care of that. If you have any questions, go ahead and ask. :)

After purchasing chassis, engine and brothels, your team must only be so far in debt that you are able to get back into the black numbers after the sponsorship clause has been added after the driver market.

Furthermore, note that if you have not posted your choices until the deadline, your spot will be taken by a user from the waiting list.

Our team manager is checking out brothels around the world, he says it is very hard, but he will be coming back soon.

We would like to officially ask FIA for an exception. Due to the fact that Ferrari is the cheapest engines of all, we would like to be able to negotiate with them and eventually sign a deal. Otherwise, it could be barely possible for us to pay for our engines (to another supplier). However, we have initiated some conversations with other engine suppliers, but it is going to be almost impossible to persuade them to lower their offers.

You can still make the average cost of the Mercedes regardless. Calinetic had a similar budget to you and managed to make ends meet (albeit only just) while paying 10 million more than that with engines.

That point is valid. An exception will only be granted if Mercedes refuses to supply at average price.
