Super Aguri will get Yamamoto back into the car for the next round, but don't be surprised to see Petrov back in the car for another race during the season.

And Before I forget, Normal32, in regards of Jose Maria Lopez’s availability to sign a pay driver deal. He’s more inclined to sign with Ferrari, as their test driver. Ferrari’s need for a pay driver is obvious, but thanks for asking.

Also, the first in-season test will be coming up after the next race at Catalunya, so if you have any upgrades planned, now would be a perfect time to do so.

Finally, in terms of the round at Catalunya, I could squeeze it in sometime this upcoming week.

At least Yamamoto wasn’t as slow for once. However, if Renault doesn’t step up the pace and fast, they may be in danger of losing both of their titles to Ferrari!

Race Summary:

On Lap 4, Yamamoto suffered a left-rear puncture down the front straight, and his race was done. Lap 16, Alonso tried to overtake Massa at turn 4 for 5th but they touched and Alonso was off with severe front wing damage, but somehow was able to continue despite being dropped all the way down to 21st as a result. On Lap 19, Lapierre and Alonso, who was working from behind collided at turn 1. Both cars retired as a result of this incident, but after the race, Lapierre was suffering from a concussion and must miss the next race at Monaco as a result. On Lap 20, Massa retired from 3rd due to a transmission problem. Lap 23, Bourdais and Lotterer touched each other down to the first turn. Both were able to continue on thankfully. Lap 27, Rosberg had an electrical issue from 11th, but was able to make it back to pit lane safely. Lap 28, Hildebrand went off track at turn 7 but was able to rejoin safely. On the next lap, Heikki had to retire the Carlin from 16th. Meanwhile, Hildebrand went off track again, but this time at turn 2, and once again he suffered no damage. Lap 30, Lotterer had to retire the Prodrive. Lap 36, Button had a brake issue from 15th, but was able to make it back to the pits for repair work. On Lap 45, Hildebrand’s engine gave up, and it’s a Double-DNF for Super Aguri. On Lap 50, Trulli had an electrical issue from 8th, but was able to make it back in time for repairs. Lap 52, Hamilton crashed into slower traffic into turn 4 while running 2nd and lost his front wing in the process. On the next lap, Kubica retired from 9th due to a Right-front puncture. On Lap 54, Hamilton had to retire the Ferrari due to an engine failure from 7th. With ten laps from the finish, Ralf Schumacher had to retire from the lead due to a transmission failure. 8 laps left, Timo Glock had to retire the Sauber-BMW from 3rd due to an oil leak. On the next lap, Fisichella had to retire the Williams from 12th due to an oil leak as well. With 5 laps left, Coulthard retired the other Toyota. With three laps left, De La Rosa suffered a loose left-rear wheel from 4th but was able to make it back to the pits safely. Two laps left, Trulli spun off at turn 4 from 6th, damaging his front wing and was forced to pit. On the last lap, Michael Schumacher started to have engine dramas from the lead and was forced to stop down the back straight as Kimi took the lead and won! And yes, Honda finally scored their first points of 2008 with a 5th and 6th place finish!

Paddock News:

MSR looking at several possibilities for replacing the injured Lapierre.

With Lapierre injured for Monaco, they are looking at several choices to fill his place. Rubens Barrichello, now racing in Indycar in the USA, is one possibility. But he has to get approval from his current team in Indycar to do so. Other names that are being thrown around are Anthony Davidson, Jose Maria Lopez, Luca Filippi, Sebastien Buemi, Adam Carroll, Bruno Senna, and Javier Villa. According to the MSR PR department, “we are in active talks with all of these drivers and we will make a decision when we made our choice.”

If you haven’t posted your upgrade plans for the first in-season test yet, you still have some time left to do so.

MSR will upgrade race pace and accept Force India's kind offer of Kamui Kobayashi for Monaco. We would also like to offer Luca Fillipi £250,000 to complete the season as test driver. Should this be successful we would like to let Force India know that we would be more than happy to return their favour should it be required

Alright, after the first batch of upgrades got finished. The circus goes to Monaco. Obviously, the biggest news is Kamui Kobayashi will make his F1 debut in the MSR-Spyker replacing an Injured Nicolas Lapierre. Paddock News:

Claire Williams shocked about Kubica winning Monaco!

During the post-race interviews, Claire Williams speaking to the BBC said, that “I was shocked that Kubica managed to win Monaco. Part of it is luck, and part of it is driver skill. But arguably the most important skill to have at Monaco is to get through the lapped cars quickly and at the right times. I am glad that we finally got a race win after what we been through for the last couple of seasons.”

Lewis Hamilton starting to question the move to Ferrari?

After yet another unlucky DNF through no fault of his own, Lewis Hamilton, who was arguably the most sought after driver on the open market at the end of 2007, recently admitted that “I might be open to moving teams again at the end of this season, if this bad luck continues.” In addition, he stated “Look, I came and expect to bring back the Team’s title to Ferrari this year, if nothing else, but this is simply not acceptable even for my terms.”

Rubens Barrichello will now be a McLaren driver.

And finally, some promising news. After being forced to sit out all of 2007, and racing in Indycar to start 2008. The well-traveled veteran Rubens Barrichello will be back in F1, this time with McLaren-Mercedes. The contract will be worth $1.5 million. As McLaren, recently struggled to find a capable and consistent #2 driver in recent years. Ron Dennis is hoping that he can score many points from the #2 driver slot, something that Di Grassi this year, couldn’t seem to do on a regular basis.

The next Round would be posted sometime next weekend.

Round 7 France

Alright, so we off to Magny-Cours in France. Obviously, the big news is Rubens Barrichello is back in a F1 car for McLaren-Mercedes, and LaPierre is back in the MSR-Spyker after fully recovering from his injury.

1 Robert Kubica 1:16.556
2 Lewis Hamilton +0.083

Let’s hope Fisichella gets points, after getting a better qualifying result of 13th. Rubens isn’t faring that much better than Di Grassi did in the second McLaren, which is a not-so-good sign for them.

Race Summary

Round 8 Canada

Alright, my work has a summer break, which means I can now do this series with some consistency now. Anyways, is this Giancarlo’s final race as a Williams driver? If he doesn’t score points in this race, he will be shown the door. Meanwhile, there may be other developments circling around the paddock. These rumors would be discussed in the Paddock news section after this race. In the meantime, here’s the recap from Canada.

Race Summary

On Lap 1, turn 1, Webber crashed out again, but this time he suffered a broken leg, he will miss the remainder of the season as a result. At the end of the first lap, it was Heidfeld in the lead, could this be the race that Nick Heidfeld finally wins his first career race? Lap 5, Heikki failed to finish the race and had to take an early walk. Lap 8, Kubica had to pit earlier than expected for damage. Lap 12, Glock retired from 10th with engine problems. Lap 20, Rosberg retired. Lap 22, Vettel retired as well. On the next lap, Massa had to pit to fix a loose front-left wheel from 8th. Lap 35, Trulli and Kubica collided at the hairpin, both would be able to continue on, despite Kubica losing his front wing. Meanwhile, on the next lap, Lotterer retired. Lap 39, Button retired with an engine issue from 11th. Lap 46, M. Schumacher had to retire from the lead due to an oil leak. Lap 51, Yamamoto retired from 16th with gearbox issues. Lap 58, Ralf Schumacher retired from 5th due to right-rear suspension failure. Lap 60, De La Rosa’s engine let go from 4th. At this point, MSR-Spyker might score its first point of the season with Bourdais running in 8th, but Trulli was closing in quickly. With 5 laps left, VDG had electrical issues and was force to pit. In the end, MSR failed to score that elusive point thanks to Jarno Trulli overtaking effort into the hairpin for 8th with 3 laps left. Also, make it two wins in a row for Lewis Hamilton. Fisichella finally scores his first points of the season and possibly his ride for the time being with a 6th place finish, and Rubens is also on the score board with a 7th.

Narain Karthikeyan to replace the Injured Mark Webber for the remainder of this season?

Rumors are flying around that Pay-driver Narain Karthikeyan might get another shot at F1 after Webber’s injury. However, Honda hasn’t formally confirmed a replacement yet.

Ross Brawn to leave Ferrari at end of the year and buy Super Aguri?

Well, Ross Brawn has done many great things throughout his career as team principal at Ferrari. Now he wants the ultimate challenge, take a Backmarker team, perhaps Super Aguri and win a team’s title with them. Obviously, he has plenty left in the tank as a manager. But the question then becomes how much money is he willing to pay to buy out Super Aguri at the end of 2008, and if Aguri Suzuki is willing to give up his dream after just 3 seasons. Time will tell.

KERS will be introduced in 2009 as OPTIONAL

Meanwhile, one thing that the paddock knows for sure, KERS will be introduced as a choice made by each team. The range will be from 50-100 HP determined by RNG. The system itself will cost around $10 million.

The next round will probably be posted within the next couple of days, let's hope!

Lap 7, Ralf Schumacher Retired from 5th due to a right-rear puncture. Lap 14, Lotterer had electrical issues, but was able to make it back to pit lane in time. Lap 19, Rosberg suffered yet another DNF, this time due to a transmission issue. On the same lap, Button in the other red bull had the same exact failure. Lap 27, Karthikeyan lost control at the end of the hangar straight, but was able to continue on. Lap 38, Bourdais lost control of the car at the same spot as Karthikeyan, but unluckily for him, he wasn’t able to continue. On Laps 43-45, three cars failed due to transmission problems, Kubica, Massa and Hildebrand. On lap 49, M. Schumacher’s engine failed and finally on lap 52, Karthikeyan finally retired with a loose wheel. Karthikeyan will not race for Honda for the rest of 2008 instead we will offer Bruno Senna 200K to take the seat for the rest of the season. For the next in season test Honda will work on Qualifying Pace and Aerodynamics

Autosport wrote:Force India demands Vettel improvement
Talk in the paddock this morning is Force India have told their young driver Sebastian Vettel to shape up and improve for the second half of the season. "We know that Vettel is a driver of the future" said a team spokeswoman to the press after yesterdays race. "However, we have to admit compared to both our's and Sebastians hopes and last years performances, the season so far has been rather underwhelming, particularly compared to (Felipe) Massa's performances."
Several in the paddock believe this is a thinly veiled reference to the unconfirmed rumours that Vettel is on financially favourable terms compared to Massa and that Massa, although originally brought in to mentor the German, is seen by team management as far better value, considering his performances

Indeed, although Massa is only 4 points ahead of Vettel, Massa has also seen a bigger share of retirements, particularly from higher points-paying positions, or else he could have much more points than 22, and the team are now considering extending the Brazilians contract as a result. This combination means Force India have now slipped behind McLaren to 5th in the constructors, after previously being a comfortable 3rd.

Force india will go for a quali and a race pace. When do we make a decision on KERS?

That's a great question you have there. I would say the decision on KERS has to be made AFTER the YDT test but BEFORE the end of this season. Keep in mind that all of the 13 teams will receive FIA prize money at the end of the year as well, but the amounts are still in limbo as I type this.

3 Ralf Schumacher +0.103
4 Sebastian Vettel +0.177

23 Bruno Senna +2.765
24 Sakon Yamamoto +2.900
25 Giedo Van der Garde +2.904
26 JR Hildebrand +2.999

Alright, so Sauber-BMW appears to be benefitting from their newest upgrades. They are looking to hopefully getting their first ever race win before this year is over.

Red Bull also gained some pace in their car during this time, but is it enough to score their first points this year? Likewise, can MSR finally get a points finish, after two 9th’s in the first half of the season?

All of these questions and more would be answered starting with the German GP at Hockenheim, which will be coming in a couple of days!

Richard Branson spotted with Ross Brawn in the Ferrari motorhome after Qualifying. A Super Aguri buyout more likely?

Well, some observant press members noticed that Richard Branson was spotted with Ross Brawn as they came towards the Ferrari Motorhome after Qualifying was over. Early rumors indicate that they will join forces to try to convince Aguri Suzuki to sell Super Aguri to them, for a purchasing price of around $35 million, with $5 million of that going back to Aguri Suzuki so that he can run his SUPER GT team back in Japan. The Super Aguri PR department hasn't returned any comment yet on whether the team is up for sale or not.

FIA: We are not going to change the FIA prize money amounts at the end of the year, unless it's absolutely necessary to keep 13 teams on the grid.

The FIA office has issued a press release stating that the prize money amounts will not change for this year, unless it's 100% necessary to keep 13 teams on the grid for 2009. Then we would consider an increase in the amount of prize money.

Meanwhile, the next round will be coming by in the next few days. In the meantime, I am off to play some Gran Turismo 6.

Well, I would say this depends on whether I lose interest or not. Not much is happening for Super Aguri right now though, and my results are kind of predictable. I would kind of like to know what my budget would be next season though to see if the Brawn buyout is worth it :P

Red Bull crossing their fingers that they can keep Honda onboard for 2009

Meanwhile, over in Milton Keyes, the Red Bull PR department is hoping that they don’t have to get a new engine supplier for a fourth straight year in the V8 era. They already used Ferrari in 2006, Cosworth in 2007 and Honda for this season. Quoting from the Release, “Obviously, getting some continuality in your engine package is desired especially as a customer team, but if we can’t get back-to-back years with the same engine, we may be open to selling our entry.”

Race Summary

On turn 1, lap 1 Lotterer crashed out while putting Rosberg into a spin. Lap 3, Klien retired with a front-left puncture coming into the second turn. Lap 8, Alonso retired from 10th. Lap 11, Barrichello retired from 15th due to a water leak. Lap 33, Button was forced to pit for electrical issues from 8th, he was able to continue. Lap 44, M. Schumacher retired while running in the points. Kubica and VDG retired from this race on lap 48. While the marshals are about to pull both cars back, De La Rosa had to retire as well due to a water leak. In the end, a late pitstop with around 15 laps to go by Hamilton cost him a race win, and instead it allows Timo Glock to seize the opportunity to be a F1 winner after his teammate Heidfeld locked up into turn 1 on lap 65. Regardless, Sauber-BMW finally are race winners and they do it 1-2 style. Ralf Schumacher finishes off this epic podium. Finally, Button passed Kovalainen for 9th, allowing Red Bull to even the score with their fierce battle with MSR for 11th in the teams standings.

Because I know I am going to forget to do it when the time arrives, can I already confirm Toyota as KERS users in 2009?
