Re: 2018 FIA Formula 2 - Londoner fix numbers

Post by Miguel98 »

With DanielPT posting his plans, we're only missing Londoner to fix his numbers.

Poll has closed, and the results are pretty clear: we're keeping 15 teams for 2019. Thanks to everyone who voted.

Me and Ataxia are currently dealing with liveries, and I'm also handling the talent files. When those two things are done, racing will start. Livery previews will be posted here when they're all done.

FIA announce F2 reserve drivers and penalty system

FIA continue to unleash news about the new Formula 2 championship. Today, they've announced the series test drivers: ex-F1RWRS driver Phil McCracken will be developing the car alongside american Jerry de Boer, who is the series official reserve driver.

FIA have also announced that the series will use a penalty system based on the current F1 one:
->After the race, the stewards will look into the racing incidents, and hand out penalty points if needed to the drivers involved.
->When a driver hits 15 penalty points, he'll get a 5 place grip drop for the next race.
->When a driver hits 30 penalty points, he'll get a one race ban (or more, depending on the serious of the incident).
->The penalty system can be overulled in case the incident is serious enough: e.g. if a driver caused two many crashes, he might get a one race ban even if he didn't hit 30 penalty points.
->In a case a gearbox or engine failure occur, a 5 place grid drop will occur during the next race.

The pre-season testing of F2 is only a week away now, as the teams are packing to Spain, with only Trueba missing to unveal their livery for the new F2 season.

Would like to know the managers opinion on their cars. If Biscione hands in the Trueba livery between now and Sunday, you can expect the F2 pre-season test results to come out on Monday or Thursday for the Catalunya session.

Gazzetta dello Sport wrote:Ferrari launching lawsuit again Scuderia Aqua

In a bizarre turn of events, Scuderia Aqua have come under threat from a potential lawsuit being filed against them, by none other than the Prancing Horse themselves.

Ferrari have put forward the threat of a suit after Scuderia Aqua's car hit the track in public for the first time, brandishing several Ferrari logos across the car's livery.

"Ferrari SpA does not tolerate improper use of its trademarks, and will look to protect its brand at all costs," read a statement from the company. "Ferrari has no connection whatsoever to this cheap imitation of a racing team, and demands any and all references to our trademarks, both explicit and implicit, are removed immediately."

"If Aqua fail to comply with this request, Ferrari SpA will be left no choice but to pursue a legal remedy to the issue."

Ferrari are unsurprisingly angry not just for the misuse of their brand, but the torrid reputation of the Scuderia Aqua team. who came dead last in the Formula 2 standings last season, failing to score a single point.

Either that, or Biscione's tying Trueba into the Ferrari operation. Regardless, the logos should've been covered up after the engine rebadging was removed.

Kirchhöfer dominates first weekend of testing
Marvin Kirchhöfer was the fastest man around the circuit of Catalunya in the first weekend of testing for F2. In both days, the german driving for Hilmer was fastest, with his time on the afternoon Sunday session beeing the fastest time overall of the weekend.

The Saturday session was red-flagged with still 15 minutes left, after an inccident involving Alexander Obolensky and Judd McAllister, with the russian driver having an engine failure, and the spanish crashed into the back of the stopped RUSSIAN TIME car. The session was not resumed. Kirchhöfer ended fastest, with a time of 1:17.578, with DMR by Carlin driver Colton Herta finishing 2nd fastest, with a time of 1:17.630, 52 tenths down on Kirchhöfer. Third fastest was KitKat Warriors driver Sophia Flörsch, with a time of 1:17.693, while T.K. Wolf and Tuomas Suomanen closed the top 5.

The Sunday session was marked by a small incident involving Trueba driver (who showed up with no livery, the rumour beeing ongoing discussions with Ferrari delaying the livery) Gianluizi Pazzini and mozambican Samora Mondlane. Mondlane completelly outbraked herself into turn 1, and crashed into the back of Pazzini, with the italian losing his rear wing, and the mozambican her front wing. Pazzini then crashed onto the stopped car of Mondlane, and damaged both cars beyond repair. Both drivers we're summoned to the stewards, and both we're given warnings for dangerous driving. Kirchhöfer once again finished quickest, with the best overall time of the weekend, 1:17.558, with Gillet driver Max Defourny only 0.006 behind the german, with a time of 1:17.564. Third fastest was italian Gianluigi Pazzini, with a time of 1:17.588. Alexandre Dorval was 4th fastest, while Jayleen Mori closed the top 5.

The second weekend of testing will be in two weeks time, in the Circuito Ricardo Tormo, in Valencia, with racing starting 3 weeks later, in Japan, in the circuit of Suzuka.

Kirchhöfer and Desai share fastest times in Valencia

Marvin Kirchhöfer runs in Valencia proved that he is the man to look as the main favourite for the 2018 F2 season. The Hilmer german driver set the fastest time overall of the day in the morning session, with a time of 1:25.042, eventually going 0.304 faster than Victoria Desai, and 0.367 faster than Josh Carlisle. Closing the top 5 in the morning session were Jayleen Mori and Gianluigi Pazzini.

In the afternoon session, while the lap times were slower, Victoria Desai went fastest overall, with a time of 1:25.374, as she went 0.047 faster than Marvin Kirchhöfer and 0.108 faster than Pazzini. Felix Rosenqvist and Raul Souto Maior closed the top 5.

After the 4 days of pre-season testing, the team will now start preparing the first weekend of the year, in the circuit of Suzuka, in Japan. Marvin Kirchhöfer was the fastest man overall in testing, beeing fastest 3 times, and 2nd on the other. A 2nd line of drivers seems to be right there as well, with Jayleen Mori, Gianluigi Pazzini, Felix Rosenqvist and Victoria Desai. But in the end, the long journey starts in Suzuka.

Josh Carlisle has stated he is "over the moon" after a competitive showing in pre season testing for the re-launched FIA Formula 2 series, which replaces the F2RWRS for 2018. The Cheltenham racer will drive for the Peak Aeroracing team and had this to say to reporters,

"Yes, I'm delighted, over the moon in fact. It's no secret that over the years I've been hobbled with poor machinery and incompetent management. In particular my time at Falik Arrows did me no favours whatsoever, and getting fired by RonDen halfway through the season last year was just a complete joke. But I'm really happy I've been able to stay with the Aeroracing team since its takeover by Peak and I think we'll make a few headlines this year for sure. Testing has gone really well, and it will be the starting point for what I know will be a memorable season for us all in the team."

Visser dominates Suzuka I

Beitske Visser has won the first race of the season for the reborn Formula 2 Championship. The dutch driver from KitKat Warriors started from 2nd on the grid, and took the lead on lap 3, and after that never look back. When she pitted on lap 4, KitKat Warriors delivered a phenomenal pitstop (both pitstops from them was about 5-6 seconds quicker than the rest of the pack), and got her 8 seconds ahead of Pazzini, making the undercut perfectly worked. After that, she never looked back, and despite in the final two laps coming under pressure from a very fast Pazzini, she was able to take the race win by 1.6 seconds. Closing the top 3 was Sophia Flörsch in the other KitKat car, with again a great pitstop helping her to the final step on the podium, after a low P15 on the grid. T.K. Wolf finished 4th, and set the fastest lap of the race in the process, while Emma Kickert closed the top 5 in the Holden Young Lions car. Lukas Zuber, Emilio Boni, Colton Herta, Jayleen Mori and Alexander Obolensky closed the points paying positions.

Some disappointments occured though. Pole sitter Victoria Desai made a good start to the race, and seemed a podium could be on the cars, but an over-ambitious move on Jayleen Mori into the hairpin saw her spin out, and she fell through the order, and eventually finished 15th. The fastest driver in testing, Marvin Kirchhöfer, made a great start from 3rd to 1st, Kirchhöfer pitstop dropped him just behind Flörsch, but the german lost the car on cold tyres coming out of turn 2, and eventually finished 18th place. Felix Rosenqvist finished 30th, harmed by a very late call to the pits from Falik Arrows. The swede has said the team won't repeat the same mistake again.

Flörsch wins, Visser makes headlines for wrong reasons

Sophia Flörsch made it two out of two possible for KitKat in Suzuka, as the german took the win in the second race in Suzuka. While she came out second behind her team-mate after the round of pitstops, Flörsch chased her down, and took the lead on lap 15, around the outside through the S section of the track, in a very brave move. But what seemed like a safe 1-2 for KitKat, turned into disaster for Beitske Visser, when she broke too late for the hairpin, and crashed into the back of her team-mate. While Flörsch got away unscatted, Visser lost her front wing, and had to pit, eventually finishing in 28th, earning her ROTR.

Marvin Kirchhöfer finished 2nd, after starting from pole position, and with a much better race than yesterday. Jayleen Mori took the final step of the podium in 3rd, after pitting on lap 3, the start of the pitstop window, and undercutted up into provision 3rd. While he did get passed by Kirchhöfer into the end of the race, he hanged for his first podium of the season, and Falik Arrows first podium this year.

Ólafur Ragnar Hanneson made a good performance and finished 4th, while T.K. Wolf took 5th place. Herta, Rosenqvist, Boni, Zuber and Carlisle rounded up the points paying positions.

Some performances should be remarked more to the midfield. Alexandre Dorval made quite a good race, setting fastest lap in the performance, but sadly for him, couldn't finish in the points, beeing just one place off. Gianluigi Pazzini had a torrid race, spinning in the hairpin and falling through the pack, finishing only 24th, while Obolensky had a small incident and felled to 26th. Miguel Silva kept getting involved in problems, and only finished 27th, while Waisale Serevi finished 29th, after he span in his in-lap, and then spinned again a couple of laps later.

Pyotr Mikoyan was the only mechanical breakdown of the day, with an engine failure, earning himself a 5 place grid penalty for next round.

Stewards Report:
Alexandre Dorval gets a formal warning for an unsafe release.
Miguel Silva and Beitske Visser get warning for dangerous driving.
Pyotr Mikoyan gets a 5 place grid penalty for next race for an engine failure.

The order will only be corrected at the end of the season (for drivers with no points), so don't worry to much about that.

Desai races to win ahead of surprising Mondlane

In the first Formula 2 race of Bahrain, Victoria Desai took race win honours for the first time this season, after starting from pole position. The RUSSIAN TIME driver got the lead early on, and led the race until the pitstops, where a slow stop saw her drop behind T.K. Wolf. She saved tyres in the middle part of the race and attacked at the end, eventually gaining the race lead in lap 16, and she powered away to her first race win from the season, putting the ghosts from Japan behind her. Samora Mondlane finished a surprising 2nd for Licor Beirão, with the mozambican driver going for a late pitstop and on the fresher tyres cleared 4 cars on her way to her first points and podium of the season. Closing the podium was T.K. Wolf, in the MRT car. Championship leader Sophia Flörsch took 4th place, while Alexander Obolensky made it a great race for RUSSIAN TIME by finishing 5th. Felix Rosenqvist took 6th, but earned ROTR in the process, after doing his best to choke away what seemed like an assured race win with countless mistakes in the final 5 laps. Dorval took 7th, and Gillet's first points of the season, while Lukas Zuber, Colton Herta and Raul Souto Maior rounded up the points paying positions.

Marvin Kirchhöfer couldn't get points for Hilmer, finishing a disappointing 11th place, while Visser and Pazzini finished 18th and 17th respectivelly, struggling with pace all weekend long, and Visser's pitstop didn't help her at all. Jayleen Mori went from hero to zero, finishing only 25th, after a lasy spin midway through the race. The same can be applied to Emilio Boni.

The race was marked by incidents as well. Emma Kickert run out of brakes into turn 1 and crashed out, but fortunatelly was okay, only a bit shaken, given the all clear for race 2 by the medical unit. Hailton Fidelis car had a fuel related problem, and had to stop when the brasilian was running a fairly competitive race. The race biggest incident occured in lap 8 though, when Pyotr Mikoyan crashed into the back of J.C. Wolf, with the russian apologising immediatelly to the austrian for the incident. Mikoyan has been awarded 5 penalty points for the inccident, becoming the first driver to get penalty points in F2.

The second race of the weekend will be run tomorrow, with the 1 lap qualifying beeing run on the morning.

ROTR: Felix Rosenqvist - Did everything possible to choke away the win, and he did.
Stewards Report:
Pyotr Mikoyan gets 5 penalty points for causing an avoidable inccident with J.C. Wolf.

The second race of the weekend will be run either tomorrow night or thursday night, still not sure. Come to the chatroom in both days to check it out. Championship standings will be updated afterwards

Kirchhöfer dominates despite scare

Marvin Kirchhöfer took his first win of the season in the second race of the weekend in Bahrain. The Hilmer driver started from pole position and led every lap of the race, except the ones during the pit cycle. Even so, Kirchhöfer had a scare, as with 4 laps to go, the german driver locked up into the hairpin, and saw the gap go down from 6 seconds to only 3. In the final lap, the gap was down to under a second, but Sophia Flörsch, who finished 2nd, didn't go for a move into the final corner despite beeing right on Kirchhöfer rear-wing. Flörsch already seeming very secure of not going for stupid moves in her championship bid. The final podium spot went to Colton Herta, this beeing his first podium of the season for the DMR by Carlin driver. Max Defourny took his best result of the season so far, by finishing 4th, while Beitske Visser finished 5th, with a much better performance for both drivers compared to the first race of the weekend.
Jayleen Mori got back into points, finishing 6th, while Boni was the best Trueba driver, who finished 7th. Hannesson made it a double points scoring action for Hilmer, finishing 8th, while T.K. Wolf and Felix Rosenqvist rounded up the points paying positions. The fastest lap of the race went to Raul Souto Maior, who was running a solid P8 before making a mistake into the final corner and dropping out of the points paying positions.

Some bad performances also happened though: Gianluigi Pazzini beeing the most criticised driver, not in terms of mistakes, but in terms of his performance in qualifying. The italian driver seemed set to have a top 10 qualifying spot, when he locked up into the final corner of his lap, and finished 29th fastest. While his race pace was hampered by beeing released into traffic, the 2nd place finisher of Japan I needs to get back to that form as soon as possible.

The race saw 5 retirements. Alexandre Dorval's Gillet stopped while coming into the pits in lap 5 with a mechanical failure, while the other retirements came from two separate incidents. The first involved Tuomas Suomanen and Victoria Desai, and earned the finnish driver ROTR award. Suomanen was catching Desai, and while trying to overtake her into turn 1, broke too late and crashed into the back of the race one winner, with both drivers retiring on spot. The second race incident was much more freakish, but after analysing telemetry, the blame has been issued to a brake failure. João António Soares had a brake failure into turn 1, and became a passenger in his Licor Beirão car, and crashed into the back of Miguel Silva, who was leaving pitroad at the time. Both drivers we're taken into the medical center, and scans revealed both drivers were ok, despite beeing clearly shaken after the incident.

With this, Sophia Flörsch keeps the championship lead on 45 points, having a 14 points advantage to Marvin Kirchhöfer. Seating 3rd in the standings is T.K. Wolf. In the team standings, KitKat Warriors kept the lead on 66 points, having a 24 points advantage to Hilmer Motorsport, with MRT seating in 3rd place.

The next round of the Formula Two championship will be supporting F1 in the German Grand Prix, in the circuit of Nurbrugring, in the weekend of 12-13 May.

Brilliant drive from Obolensky grabs him first win, as RUSSIAN TIME get a 1-2

What was witnessed today was, so far, one of the best drives this year. Not just in F2, bear in mind. But probably in the motorsport world. Alexander Obolensky took his first win of the season, ahead of his team-mate Victoria Desai, making it a RUSSIAN TIME 1-2 , after starting from 13th place on the grid. Marvin Kirchhöfer took his second consecutive pole position, and his third of the season, and held the lead at the start, but eventually lost it to Felix Rosenqvist, and the two started fighting. Desai was the first of the leaders to pit, after she grabbed the lead on lap 3 from Rosenqvist, and pitted on lap 5. She undercuted the pack, and went to the race lead after the pitstop phase was over. Kirchhöfer and Rosenqvist stayed out until later on the race, and fell to 4th and 5th. Meanwhile, Obolensky was setting fastest laps in the clear air catching to the front two, which at the time, we're Rosenqvist and Kirchhöfer, and eventually got up to P2 before pitting. He got out about 3 seconds back from his team-mate, who was leading the cars that had already pitted, but he was on fresher tyres. Towards the end of the race, Desai tyres started to feel really bad, and the indian driver started losing pace, while Obolensky was catching her. Eventually, with only two laps to go, Obolensky made the move on her team-mate, and took the race lead for the first time. But Desai fought back, and passed the russian driver with a brave move through the very quick right hander on the final sector, after Obolensky failed a gear through the straight. But Obolensky came next lap, and took the lead never to look back, grabbing his first win of the season, ahead of Desai and Rosenqvist, with his first podium of the season, after passing Pazzini on the final lap. Pazzini finished 4th, improving from his performance in Bahrain, while Kirchhöfer finished 5th after starting from pole-position. T.K. Wolf continues to keep a 100% score sheet, as he finishes 6th, while Herta came from a low 16th on the grid to also keep his 100% score sheet, to finish in 7th place. Josh Carlisle was 8th, while Miguel Silva rounded up the top 10 with 9th. Hannesson closed the top 10.

The race was eventfull though in the midfield, with multiple cars losing it through turn 1 especially. Victims of these included Soares (three times), Defourny, Kickert, Jason and McAllister. The belgian driver though gained ROTR, after starting from 4th on the grid, and ruined his race by spinning at turn 1, and then in the midfield crashed into the back of Tanner Jason, losing his front wing in the process and having to pit for repairs, finishing 30th and last. Another incident occured on the lap 14, when Jason Hamilton lost his car in the final chicane and did a 360º, when he seemed set to score his first points of the season. The controversial inccident of the race happened on lap 10. Pazzini was exiting pit road, and Alexandre Dorval was coming through the main straight and seemed set to jump the italian driver. But Pazzini saw that he had the inside line into the corner, and broke really late onto the corner, forcing Dorval to turn in the car around the outside of him. This obviously resulted in a touch: but a light one. It was enough to force Dorval into a spin, and ruined the belgian's race. The stewards deemed it a racing incident, but rumours around the paddock say that Gillet will appeal to the decision, citing that Pazzini driving was dangerous and could've caused a bigger crash.

KitKat Warrios also had lucklustre performance, with both drivers finishing out of the points for the first time this season, with home hero, and championship leader, Sophia Flörsch only finishing in a low 16th place. She'll hope to bounce back for race 2 of the Nurburgring.

Gianluigi Pazzini got a warning for dangerous driving.

Rosenqvist wins for the first time this season, Kirchhöfer takes championship lead

Felix Rosenqvist has won his first race of the season in the second race of the weekend in the Nurburgring. The swedish driver started from 2nd on the grid and went on to take the race win in a race marked by incidents.
On sunday morning, it was another pole for Kirchhöfer, only 0.029 ahead of Rosenqvist though, while Pazzini was only 0.055 away from pole as well, and was third on the grid. A good start from Kirchhöfer saw him retain the lead, while the best started was definetelly Desai, as she went from 5th to 3rd into turn 1. At the start, not many incidents happened, and Josh Carlisle was the first of the leader's group to pit. Rosenqvist pitted a couple of laps later, but got out in traffic, and the winner in all of this was Pazzini, who found himself in the lead of the cars that had pitted. On the 15th lap though, the italian driver lost the car through turn 1, and lost the lead, holding up Kirchhöfer in the process. This allowed Jason Hamilton to take the virtual lead, since Mori hadn't pitted at this time. The next lap, Hamilton got into the race lead for the first time this season. Kirchhöfer was able to pass him on lap 18 though, and took the lead again. Hamilton was able to take him again, and got back into the race lead into the final two laps of the race. On the last lap, Rosenqvist got a good run through turn 3, and got into the race lead, and retained it to the end, taking his first win of the season, ahead of Marvin Kirchhöfer, who took the championship lead, and of Lukas Zuber, who took his and Peak Aeroracing Engineering first podium of the season. Hamilton finished in 4th, scoring his best result of the season so far, and Pazzini closed the top 5 after his initial mistake. Mikoyan finished a great 6th place for Tassie Racing, scoring their first points of the season. Max Defourny, Josh Carlisle, Victoria Desai and Olafur Ragnar Hannesson rounded up the points paying positions.

It was another scoreless race for KitKat Warriors, with Sophia Flörsch ending up in 11th place, while Beitske Visser finished 14th. Flörsch's race was ruined by Colton Herta though. The american driver lost the car through the final chicane on lap 9, and when the german driver was coming to the scene of the accident, Herta blocked her and didn't allow her to pass immediatelly, helding her up enough for her to lose enough seconds not to finish on the points today. Herta's actions earned him 5 penalty points, and a warning that if he does the same thing again, the stewards will give him a race ban. Race 1 winner Obolensky had an afternoon to forget, when he spinned the car on his own, and that was enough to completelly ruined his race. MRT also had a scoreless race for the first time this season, with both cars suffering a torrid race.

The next round of FIA F2 Championship will be in the mythical Spa Francorchamps circuit, in Belgium, in the weekend of 2-3 June.

Formula 2.com wrote:Kirchhöfer wins amidst Visser and Silva disqualification
Marvin Kirchhöfer has won, from pole position, the first of the races in the Zolder circuit, host of the 4th round of the FIA Formula 2 championship.

The german driver didn't technically win the race in the track though. That honour belonged to Beitske Visser, but the dutch woman did not pit during the race, and together with Miguel Silva, who finished in 3rd place on the track, both were disqualified from the race, and handed a 3 place grid penalty for the second race of the weekend.

Like this, second place belonged to Sophia Flörsch, who keeps herself in championship battle, while the final place in the podium went to local Alexandre Dorval, much to the proud of the belgian Gillet fans, who also saw Max Defourny finish in 5th place. The best weekend from Gillet so far this season. Victoria Desai was in the middle of the Gillet's, in 4th place, with Emma Kickert, Gianluigi Pazzini, Lukas Zuber, Jason Hamilton and Alexander Obolensky closing the top 10.

3 drivers have also gained 5 place grid drop due to engine or gearbox changes: Samora Mondlane, Waisale Serevi and Raul Souto Maior. The brasilian suffered a big crash during the race, when the Judd engine in the back of his MRT blew up in the straight heading into the final chicane, and send the MRT into the wall on the side of the circuit at high speed, before getting collected by Tanner Jason in the process. Despite beeing quite shaken, Souto Maior walked away from the crash, and is cleared to race in the second race of the weekend.

Beitske Visser and Miguel Silva have been disqualified from the race results and have been handed a 3 place grid penalty for not taking the obligatory pitstop during the race. Both also get two points deducted from their super license.
Samora Mondlane, Waisale Serevi and Raul Souto Maior get 5 place grid penalties for gearbox and engine changes between races.
