Alt-F3000: The 1988 Season - Season over!
To complement Klon's Revolutionary Era Alt-F1, I have decided to introduce our first F3000 series. There will be a number of game mechanics to make a unique, immersive experience, where you are in control of your team's fortunes. Most of the time you'll be scrabbling around for money, so you'll have to try and generate as much money as possible from results and drivers.

Re: Alt-F3000: The 1988 Season
Rules:
- Each team must run two cars at every event, and must be the same chassis and engine combination. Teams will buy chassis and engines outright, direct from the suppliers at the advertised price.
- Driver signing: Described in-thread.
- The points system will follow the customary 9-6-4-3-2-1 distribution.
- Teams who end the season in the red after prize money distribution will be declared bankrupt. The next person on the waiting list will then have the chance to enter.
The Marketplace
- Teams must purchase a minimum of two chassis and two engines. Teams must run the same chassis and engine for both drivers at a given race weekend. Each chassis supplier has a certain number of cars built, and some have a few of last years' left over. You need not buy more than two chassis per season.
CHASSIS:
- Firstly, each chassis has a wear multiplier; to level things out a little, the better chassis will have a higher wear multiplier, and the worst will have the lowest.
Every race weekend a chassis enters, it receives a small percentage of wear added to it. Wear is also added to the chassis through component failures, damage or crashes. Each component failure offers a different wear percentage (values to be decided), whilst more severe crashes add greater wear percentages.
- For every 10% of wear, the chassis will lose 50 Grip points, and gain 200 CFP points.
- If a car sits at 75% wear, the scrutineers will disqualify the car from any events until it is fixed.
- It costs £1k to remove 1% of wear. You are free to spend as much as you like repairing your car, providing you have the money.
- If a chassis manages to get to 100% wear (it CAN happen, but it should be very rare) the team must purchase an entirely new car.
- After each season, the chassis will degrade in performance and reliability, as follows. After three years, the chassis must be scrapped. (CFP is Car Failure Probability...cheers Klon!)
- At the END of the season, you may:
a) keep your chassis, and accept the degradation stats
b) sell your chassis and buy new ones. You can sell your chassis to another team, or instead sell through a classified advert. There is a 25% chance that you may find a buyer, and the value will be agreed between 1/2 and 3/4 of the original value through RNG.
c) scrap your chassis and buy new ones. You can sell your car to the scrappers for half the original cost, and the scrap value will halve each season.
ENGINES:
- Engines will now receive degradation effects after every race; each engine will lose 2 BHP after each race weekend, and gain 75 CFP points.
- Teams may recondition engines to remove the associated CFP, but this will only replenish half of the lost power. Engines may be reconditioned once. Reconditioning an engine will cost 20% of the original engine cost.
- If a car suffers an engine failure, the engine will be removed from a team's inventory, and the team must buy a new one if they have only two.
- Teams may swap engine suppliers mid-season, and engines will be sold back to the supplier for the original cost - £5000 per race on the engine's mileage.
- Teams must start each season with mileage-free engines, and so each engine supplier will buy back any engines remaining at 33% of the initial cost.
Prize Money:
Prize Money will be distributed as follows for each race position, teams will receive the amount which corresponds to their drivers' positions in the race. Retirements will be included as a position.
At the end of the season, each team will receive the following prize money, determined by their placing in a teams' championship:
The market will be opened once the team slots have been filled.

You've just missed out on a slot, I'm afraid...I'll put you on the waiting list though.
Now, we can begin with purchasing chassis and engines. Here's the list of chassis you can buy; each manufacturer has made a certain amount of chassis available.
Grip denotes the top boundary that may be attributed to a driver in-game.
CFP is the probability of failure for a given car; a greater value means a car is more prone to failure.
Cost denotes the cost per unit. (ie. costs for one chassis and one engine.)
Built denotes the number of chassis available for purchase.
WM is Wear Multiplier.

I've come up with a new solution to the chassis system, and it, like engines, will introduce a wear mechanic instead of standard upgrades. Firstly, each chassis has a wear multiplier; to level things out a little, the better chassis will have a higher wear multiplier, and the worst will have the lowest.
Engine Wear
I've made a slight tweak with the engine wear too contrary to the original post. Engines will now receive degradation effects after every race; each engine will lose 2 BHP after each race weekend, and gain 75 CFP points.
Teams may recondition engines, but this will only replenish half of the lost power. Engines may be reconditioned once. Reconditioning an engine will cost 20% of the original engine cost.
If a car suffers an engine failure, the engine will be removed from a team's inventory, and the team must buy a new one if they have only two.
Teams may swap engine suppliers mid-season, and engines will be sold back to the supplier for the original cost - £5000 per race on the engine's mileage.
Teams must start each season with mileage-free engines, and so each engine supplier will buy back any engines remaining at 33% of the initial cost.
I understand this is a LOT to take in, but I wanted to make this quite realistic in that you'd be repairing cars and switching out engines on a regular basis. It also makes sure that you're checking in regularly!
So, you may purchase chassis and engines. You must end this phase with your budget at £0 or higher, although you will be able to sell seats later on to the highest-bidding drivers if you're short of cash for any further plans. However, keeping some money for drivers is recommended, for reasons I will explain later.

Just a note, Klon's reminded me that you CAN run two different chassis per team; I forgot that the grip value is independent per car. That's if you want to.

There's only 1 Reynard left, unfortunately. You can buy that one as well as another, or you can run two of the same...it's your call.

Remaining cars are:
Reynard 88B - 0 left
Lola T88/50 - 0 left
March 88-B - 4 left
Ralt RT22 - 4 left
All of the '87 spec cars remain as well. Once this phase is over, I'll calculate left-over budgets and then start the driver-signing process.

Re: Alt-F3000: The 1988 Season
Driver signing
Requirements:
Drivers must have:
- competed in less than 10 F1 Grands Prix, and have finished no higher than 4th at any point.
- have competed in any official F3000 or F3 championship before.
Signing process:
You may make offers for up to FIVE drivers per seat. There are three types of contract terms you may offer to a driver.
Contract: You may offer a driver a wage to join your team; this must be between £55k-£110k per season (or £5k-£11k per race). You may pay the driver per race, or pay his seasons' fee immediately. If you wish to terminate the agreement with a contracted driver, you must pay the rest of the agreed time off with him. Wages will be counted towards the nearest £500 per race.
For example, Driver A signs with a team for 11 Races at £5k per race. Having been sacked after 6 races, the team must pay off the remaining five. You can offer a driver fewer races per season, but it becomes more difficult to re-sign the driver if you wish for them to complete any more races. If you choose to pay the driver per race, but cannot afford to do so at any point, you must pay double at the next race event. If you still default on payments, the driver may leave the team.
A driver views a contracted drive as first priority.
Pay-driver: You offer the driver a seat, but the driver must bring a budget with them. The less successful a driver in previous formulae, the more likely they are to bring a larger budget with them. The amount of budget a driver brings will be generated through RNG after drivers have been signed by teams. The team can request that the driver pays per race or per season, but if a driver is sacked mid-way through the season then the team must pay back the equivalent sponsorship value per race. Sponsorship RNGs offer values of £50k per season to £250k per season, in £50k increments (the value generated can be divided by 11 for a race-by-race payment value.), with weightings based on driver success.
For example, Driver B signs for a team and pays for the season up-front. Having been sacked after 6 races, the team must pay back the value of (sponsorship value/11)x5.
Due to increased job security, a driver views a pay-driver option as second priority. Drivers will not entertain this option if offered a contracted drive.
Non-contract:A driver may also sign for a team on non-contract terms. You do not have to pay the driver or request that they bring a budget, and you can replace them at any time. However, other teams can make offers to non-contract drivers mid-season should they impress.
Due to low job security, a driver views a non-contract option as a final resort. Drivers will not entertain this option if offered a contracted drive or pay-drive.
Fictional drivers:
Signing a fictional driver helps the canonical storyline but drivers can only join a team on a contracted basis, subject to a fee agreed between team-owner and DEC holder. DEC holders must confirm in-thread that they agree to the terms set out. Contract termination charges still apply.
Please fill out the form below:
Final note: you may not be in debt at the end of this signing process. You may change bids, but everything is locked in at 21:00 GMT on the 26th October.
