Favourites:
We reach the second german round of the year, at Hockenheimring. Despite that, WTCM is not using the long circuit, going through the woods and the famous Oostkurve. Instead, it's using the shorter DTM circuit, running at just above 2km's long.
At the Norisring, everyone believed that the Sierra's would be beatable, but in fact, the gap increased. Question marks rain over this race as well, with people expecting to see the privateer Sierra's taking the challenge to Kaliber, and with rain expected for all races but pre-qualifying, we should be in a for a terrific weekend of racing.

Autosport wrote:Soper and Asch share Pre-Qualifying victories at Hockenheim

Steve Soper and Roland Asch have taken Pre-Qualifying victories at HockenheimRing. The British Kaliber driver took victory ahead of its team-mates Tim Harvey, the pole-sitter, and ahead of Roland Ratzenberger. The biggest disappointment belong to Andy Rouse, as after a dominating weekend at Kyalami, the Kaliber owner saw his gearbox fail completelly on his Sierra, and he was forced to retire. This obviously he won't qualify for the races this weekend, and it's a good chance for his championship opponents to catch up.

The bigges surprise of the weekend belonged to Merkur, as the team brought some modifications to the Sierra they used labelled as Ford Merkur RS500, and Pruett was running 3rd when he retired, and both Pruett and Gregg set the 2nd and 3rd fastest laps out of anyone in the field.

In B Class, David Leslie took pole position and fastest lap in his way to take his first class victory of the year, ahead of another great performance by the Volvo's, with Niedzwiedz in 2nd and Andersson in 4th, with Hasemi splitting the Volvo's.

In the second pre-qualifying race, Roland Asch took victory ahead of pole-sitter Mario Hytten, with Olaf Manthey completing the podium. Alain Cudini in his WTCM debut took 4th in the race, qualifying easilly for the races, with Christian Danner doing a storming drive from 19th on the grid to finish 7th. We saw once again heartbreak for Roberto Ravaglia, as the italian driver, who missed qualifying in Kyalami due to a retirement, fails to qualify again by finishing just 1 place adrift from the qualifying paces.

Therefore, this is the starting list for the endurance race and the sprint race at Hockenheim:
#9 Zakspeed - Klaus Ludwig (Ford Sierra RS500)
#10 Zakspeed - Manuel Reuter (Ford Sierra RS500)
#13 Wolf Racing Team - Joachim Winkelhock (Ford Sierra RS500)

#18 Union Saver Developments - David Leslie (Toyota Supra Turbo)
#19 Union Saver Developments - John Llewellyn (Toyota Supra Turbo)
#21 Kaliber Industrial Control Services Racing - Steve Soper (Ford Sierra RS500)
#23 Kaliber Industrial Control Services Racing - Tim Harvey (Ford Sierra RS500)
#24 Kaliber Industrial Control Services Racing - Roland Ratzenberger (Ford Sierra RS500)

Saturday Afternoon Report:
Endurance Race:

Autosport wrote:Harvey strolls to Endurance Race win in almost fairytale for van Ommen

Tim Harvey has won the Hockenheim Endurance Race. The british driver was the lone Kaliber Sierra to reach the finish line, with both his team-mate Soper and Ratzenberger retiring from the race.

The british driver did not take an easy win though. The easing weather through the race played a major factor overall, with one driver taking big advantage of it: Wolf Racing Team driver Jörg van Ommen.

The german prolonged a stint in the wet tyres, and eventually found himself leading the race, with a 20 seconds gap to Harvey, with 40 laps to go. For the first 20 laps, the gap only went down a couple of seconds. But then van Ommen tyres went off, and the german driver got caught and passed by Harvey with 11 laps to go. As if losing the lead wasn't bad enough, the german saw then his engine overheating, and stopping on the side of the road, eventually beeing classified in 17th place and having fastest lap. The man couldn't believe his bad luck.

Deborah Gregg got her second podium in the series, finishing in 2nd place, with Naoki Nagasaka gaining the podium after Manuel Reuter had to do a splash and dash to finish the race in 4th place.

Marc Hessel won C Class, by finishing in 5th place overall, ahead of his team-mate Didier Theys and Mauro Baldi in 3rd, finishing in 10th place, and grabbing pole for the sprint race.

Nissan got a 1-2 in B Class, with Nagasaka winning ahead of Hasemi, with Per-Gunnar Andersson finishing in 12th overall to take 3rd in class. D Class was won by Gokor Peynirici, the first ever victory by a turkish driver in a FIA series. Helmut Maier finished in 2nd place.

Ludwig was another unlucky man. The german driver with 2 laps to go saw his Ford's suspension collapse, and was eventually classified in 9th, at least starting from 2nd in race 2. Martin Schance finished in 8th place.

Sunday Report:
Sprint Race Results:
I forgot to take a picture of the results

Autosport wrote:Reuter comes home to take victory ahead of Harvey

Manuel Reuter has become the first driver since Kazuyoshi Hoshino won the Sprint Race at Bathurst to win a race that didn't drive for the Kaliber team. The german Zakspeed driver lead 26 of the 38 laps on road to victory in changeable conditions at Hockenheim. 40 seconds behind Reuter, Tim Harvey crossed the finish line in 2nd with Ludwig making it a Zakspeed 1-3.

Steve Soper came from the back of the field to finish 4th. Actually, a big portion of the drivers in top 10 had come from a low grid position. Using strategy to come through the field, Armin Hahne finished 5th for Mercedes, Llewellyn 10th for USD. Nagasaka won B Class in 6th overall, with Hytten in 7th, making a great weekend for Euromotor International. Andersson, Theys and Llewellyn rounded up the top 10.

In D Class, Wolfgang Kudrass took victory ahead of Gokor Peynirici and Andrea Geisler.

The WTCM championship moves to France next, in the circuit of Charade, using the newly built track around there, which uses a portion of the old F1 track.

With Wizzie's entries, Charade entry list is closed.

You have until the 13th of August to ask for updates.

Preview:
Despite not using the legendary 6km layout, the Charade circuit has still a fairly interesting mountain road that forms a twisty circuit where a good combination between power and downforce will be crucial.
The Sierra's saw their gap to the the rest of the field shrink at Hockenheim, and at Charade, the Merkur Sierra's want to get closer and look at victories. But will the volcano roads pose threat from the B and C class cars?

Autosport wrote:Rouse and Ravaglia storm to Pre-Qualifying victories

In the first pre-qualifying race of the day, Andy Rouse took victory ahead of his Kaliber team-mates, Ratzenberger, Harvey and Soper. The Kaliber's although were threatened in qualifying by the Merkur Ford's, and in the race by the Zakspeed of Manuel Reuter, who came home 4 seconds adrift (and ran 3rd for a while pressuring the two leaders) in 5th place. Ludwig was 6th, ahead of the Merkur's of Pruett and Gregg, with Schanche in 9th, beeing the last A Class driver to qualify for the race.
In B Class, by finishing 10th on the race Klaus Niedzwiedz took victory in class, continuing Volvo's streak of good results, ahead of Nagasaka, who continues to extend his Class Championship lead, and Winston Percy, in his first podium trip in class since Bathurst. Hasemi, Andersson, Hoshino, Thiim (the first time this year Rover qualify two cars), Leslie and Hernandez are the other B Class cars to qualify.

In the second Pre-Qualifying, despite a bad start, Roberto Ravaglia came through to take his first victory in a pre-qualifying race this season, ahead of the Mercedes armada of Luis Perez-Sala, with a storming drive from 10th on the grid, Armin Hahne, the privateer Mercedes of Olaf Manthey and Roland Asch came behind him.
Baldi came home in 6th place, ahead of Bernd Schneider, with Hessel, Brancatelli, Hytten, Östreich and Danner coming home in the last qualifying spots, with Jacques Laffite almost making it in the Renault, in 13th place.
In D Class, Claude Ballot-Lena took victory ahead of Guillermo Maldonado, with Herbert Lingmann beeing 3rd and Jo Zeller 4th, the other two D Class drivers to be qualified for the races.

Therefore, this is the starting list for the endurance race and sprint race at Clermont-Farrand:
#9 Zakspeed - Klaus Ludwig (Ford Sierra RS500)
