Race - Spain
Thierry Boutsen took the lead in the championship with an easy victory, helped by team-mate Alesi suffering an early engine failure. Nigel Mansell came second for the Dallara team and Gerhard Berger just held onto the last step on the podium in his McLaren, with Alain Prost less than a second behind in his Ferrari. Scott Goodyear had a solid drive an took advantage of the attrition to score Benettons first points of the year in fifth. The biggest celebrations of the day were reserved for the AGS garage though, as Eddie Irvine overtook Christian Danner two laps from the end to give AGS their first point in three years.
