The racing career of Astrid Abrahamsen (1990-?)

Post by Normal32 »

So, believe it or not, i will start my own virtual career as well. This one will be about Norwegian Astrid Abrahamsen, who, at 20 years old, after having some stints in F3000 and JF3000, got the chance of her life to drive at... Life for 1990.

Quick notes that some events that happened in real life could be changed, rushed, or delayed. What will those changes be you will have to wait and see. The first change you will note is all the teams have 2 drivers, although most of these come from who raced last year with the team and is no longer racing (eg, PHR in Coloni) and its mostly because of Grand Prix 2. Races are run at 30%, since it will be make it less painful to run races if i DNQ/DNPQ.

Also, empashis on the "Racing career" part.

PRE-RACE:

Autosport wrote:Life replaces failed in-house engine, makes radical aero changes

After struggling with power for the last few races, Life has decided to give up in their engine program, instead
opting for the Judd CV engines. However, Judd had a free EV engine batch, which is what they will use. They also contacted ex-Ferrari designer Antonio Tomaini as the consultant for their chassis, which has been given radical changes for the Monaco Grand Prix. Due to this, Life has reportedly used a lot of its budget, so its only a matter of time if they will go broke or not.

Autosport wrote:FIA to allow up to 30 cars in the main Qualifying shoutout

FIA has decided to up the number of cars in the main Qualifying session up to 30, with 4 of them DNQing. The rest will go to a second qualifying session held with 26 cars. This means Onyx no longer have to pre-qualify.

Autosport wrote:Several teams to downsize to 1-car operations

Many teams have downsized to 1-car operations. These include:

Osella (dropping Ghinzani)
Coloni (dropping Raphanel)
Life (dropping Brabham)

Autosport wrote:Broken Marriage; What's happening in Coloni?

After some very unsucessfull attempts to make it into the last couple of races, Subaru seems to be running out of patience more and more. Many of the rumors said that Subaru will pull out their 51% stake after the Canadian Grand Prix.

La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote:Dallara: "This is embarassing"

The Scuderia Italia team has been very dissapointed with the result thus far, with two double DNQs and only one race start. Dallara has said that, if they don't improve their game for the remainder of the season, they will withdraw support by the end of this year, Numerous sources have rumored that the Ford engine is under
powered.

La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote:Gianni Morbidelli gets the boot

After some really awful perfomances in the last couple of races, Morbidelli will be sacked and replaced by Paolo Barilla.

for the next 6 races because of this, with a replacement yet to be announced.
-Ivan Capelli crashed, hence his slow time.
-The race was stopped after the 50% distance was completed, when the rain was too heavy to continue. Half-points will be rewarded.
-Astrid Abrahamsen lapped everyone, something nobody expected. Not even me :L

Obviously the issue has been solves now, but Onyx shouldn't have been pre-qualifiers at all, Ligier should have been, as they were the next lowest team.

Hell, even Leyton House and Minardi should have been there before Onyx.

Good luck with your career though.

Round 5: Canadian GP, Montreal

Climate: Sunny all around

Pre-race has some news from SI/Dallara's camp. Their Ford Cosworth engine has been upgraded, hoping to patch some of the power issues. Coloni have divorced from Subaru, they will now use a heavily upgraded chassis called the C3C, and a new customer Ford engine.

Pre-Qualifying:

1. Eric Bernard (Larrousse) 1:26:084
2. Aguri Suzuki (Larrousse) 1:26:661
3. Olivier Grouillard (Osella) 1:26:868
4. Astrid Abrahamsen (Life) 1:29:696
---DNPQ---
5. Bertrand Gachot (Coloni) 1:31:272
6. Claudio Langes (Eurobrun) 1:31:969
7. Gabriele Tarquini (AGS) 1:31:969
8. Roberto Moreno (Eurobrun) 1:32:172
9. Yannick Dalmas (AGS) 1:33:190

I made it out, although i am still way slower than the main 3. Coloni improved a lot and they were only
a spot off from making it, after a much improved chassis and the much better engine. Langes somehow
outqualifies Moreno, and AGS continue to perish into obscurity.

Qualifying 1:

1. Ayrton Senna (McLaren) 1:18:552
2. Nigel Mansell (Ferrari) 1:18:603
3. Thierry Boutsen (Williams) 1:18:701
4. Alain Prost (Ferrari) 1:18:743
5. Gerhard Berger (McLaren) 1:18:784
6. Nelson Piquet Sr. (Benetton) 1:19:210
7. Jean Alesi (Tyrrell) 1:20:144
8. Riccardo Patrese (Williams) 1:20:161
9. Ivan Capelli (Leyton House) 1:20:171
10. Alessandro Nannini (Benetton) 1:20:175
11. Aguri Suzuki (Larrousse) 1:20:349
12. Stefano Modena (Brabham) 1:20:602
13. David Brabham (Brabham) 1:20:637
14. Phillippe Alliot (Ligier) 1:20:638
15. Pierluigi Martini (Minardi) 1:20:699
16. Michele Alboreto (Arrows) 1:20:773
17. Paolo Barilla (Minardi) 1:20:831
18. Nicola Larini (Ligier) 1:20:835
19. JJ Lehto (Onyx) 1:20:894
20. Martin Donnelly (Lotus) 1:21:083
21. Olivier Grouillard (Osella) 1:21:182
22. Satoru Nakajima (Tyrrell) 1:22:576
23. Eric Bernard (Larrousse) 1:23:114
24. Stefan Johansson (Onyx) 1:23:396
25. Mauricio Gugelmin (Leyton House) 1:25:071
26. Andrea De Cesaris (Scuderia Italia/Dallara) 1:25:371
DNQ Johnny Herbert (Lotus) 1:25:952
DNQ Emanuele Pirro (Scuderia Italia/Dallara) 1:26:468
DNQ Alex Caffi (Arrows) 1:28:149
DNQ Astrid Abrahamsen (Life) 1:28:171

I was hoping to make it out, but the car didn't behave as well as last time. Caffi DNQs for the second time in a row, Pirro shows that although improvements have been made there is still a long way to go, and Herbert struggled to adapt in the Lotus.

At the front, Boutsen puts the car in a surprising 3rd, Ivan Capelli starts 9th.... and his teammate is all the way down in 25th. Alesi puts its Tyrrell in a respectable 7th, Brabham surprisingly put their cars in the midfielder, and Onyx finally manages to qualify both cars.

Qualifying 2:

1. Ayrton Senna (McLaren) 1:21:510
2. Nigel Mansell (Ferrari) 1:21:615
3. Gerhard Berger (McLaren) 1:21:776
4. Thierry Boutsen (Williams) 1:22:099
5. Alain Prost (Ferrari) 1:22:409
6. Riccardo Patrese (Williams) 1:22:415
7. Jean Alesi (Tyrrell) 1:22:614
8. Nelson Piquet Sr. (Benetton) 1:23:275
9. Ivan Capelli (Leyton House) 1:24:886
10. Alessandro Nannini (Benetton) 1:24:935
11. Olivier Grouillard (Osella) 1:25:051
12. Pierluigi Martini (Minardi) 1:25:526
13. Aguri Suzuki (Larrousse) 1:25:988
14. Satoru Nakajima (Tyrrell) 1:26:053
15. Stefano Modena (Brabham) 1:26:379
16. Phillippe Alliot (Ligier) 1:27:049
17. Mauricio Gugelmin (Leyton House) 1:27:359
18. Eric Bernard (Larrousse) 1:27:691
19. Martin Donnelly (Lotus) 1:28:142
20. Andrea De Cesaris (Dallara) 1:28:540
21. Michele Alboreto (Arrows) 1:28:746
22. Nicola Larini (Ligier) 1:29:443
23. Paolo Barilla (Minardi) 1:30:581
24. JJ Lehto (Onyx) 1:31:562
25. David Brabham (Brabham) 1:31:765
26. Stefan Johansson (Onyx) 1:33:801

Not really too much to talk about, apart from the fact that Olivier Grouillard put the Osella in a surprising 11th place. It also frustrates a little bit that had these times been used in Q1, i would have got out. Oh well.

Race:

1. Nigel Mansell (Ferrari) 27m 08 527
2. Jean Alesi (Tyrrell) +44.379
3. Mauricio Gugelmin (Leyton House) +59.033
4. Martin Donnelly (Lotus) +1m 05 793
5. Paolo Barilla (Minardi) +1m 06 035
6. Stefan Johansson (Onyx) +1m 13 875
7. Michele Alboreto (Arrows) +1m 19 435
8. JJ Lehto (Onyx) +1m 20 372
DNF Olivier Grouillard (Osella) Suspension
DNF Pierluigi Martini (Minardi) Gearbox
DNF Satoru Nakajima (Tyrrell) Brakes
DNF Nicola Larini (Ligier) Didn't Finish
DNF Riccardo Patrese (Williams) Didn't Finish
DNF Stefano Modena (Brabham) Didn't Finish
DNF Alessandro Nannini (Benetton) Didn't Finish
DNF Ayrton Senna (McLaren) Brakes

DNF Ivan Capelli (Leyton House) Didn't Finish
DNF Nelson Piquet (Benetton) Didn't Finish
DNF Alain Prost (Ferrari) Didn't Finish
DNF Thierry Boutsen (Williams) Didn't Finish

Main talking points of the race:

-Thierry Boutsen had a really serious accident at the start; his car flipped a complete 180 and then many many cars couldn't avoid hitting him, and after, Stefan Johansson couldn't avoid running over his car. Although his injuries are not life-threating, he won't be able to do F1 for the rest of the year.
-Gerhard Berger made a very dumb mistake; he overshoot the second corner and crashed into the wall, losing his rear wing. You can imagine what happened next.
-Olivier Grouillard was running really good until his suspension ran out. The Onyxs were rather slow but consistent, hoping for atrittion for points. It worked.

IIDOTR: Olivier Grouillard
ROTR: McLarens, yet another double DNF

Round 6: Mexican GP, Mexico City

Pre-race, there wasn't too much to talk about, apart from the fact that Life have made yet more changes to the car, hopefully to rectify all the handling issues before the next GP. Caffi is currently on the line of fire, and if his results do not improve from the next GPs on, he will get fired. Boutsen's absence will covered by F3000 front-runner, Eric van de Poele. Thanks to the point from last race, Onyx future is looking a bit more stable, however, they still need to defend their position if they wanna be around next year.

Climate: Sunny all around

Pre-Qualifying:

1. Astrid Abrahamsen (Life) 1:21:983
2. Olivier Grouillard (Osella) 1:22:733
3. Eric Bernard (Larrousse) 1:22:950
4. Aguri Suzuki (Larrousse) 1:24:219
---DNPQ---
5. Bertrand Gachot (Coloni) 1:26:839
6. Roberto Moreno (Eurobrun) 1:27:514
7. Claudio Langes (Eurobrun) 1:28:062
8. Gabriele Tarquini (AGS) 1:28:258
9. Yannick Dalmas (AGS) 1:29:237

I made it once again. The upgrades made the car far more competitive, and i was able to get easily out of pre-qualifying. Osella is doing better and Larrousse struggled a bit, but it was enough to qualify. Gachot is getting closer, and i am sure that when Larrousse and i go out of Pre-Qualifying, it should be easier for them to make it out of pre-qualifying. Eurobrun somehow outperfomed a team, and AGS continues its decline.

Qualifying 1:

1. Ayrton Senna (McLaren) 1:16:473
2. Nigel Mansell (Ferrari) 1:16:735
3. Gerhard Berger (McLaren) 1:16:757
4. Alain Prost (Ferrari) 1:16:874
5. Riccardo Patrese (Williams) 1:17:194
6. Eric van de Poele (Williams) 1:17:614
7. Jean Alesi (Tyrrell) 1:17:630
8. Eric Bernard (Larrousse) 1:18:899

15. Stefano Modena (Brabham) 1:19:445
16. Pierluigi Martini (Minardi) 1:19:539
17. Michele Alboreto (Arrows) 1:19:658

23. Mauricio Gugelmin (Leyton House) 1:21:222
24. Andrea De Cesaris (Scuderia Italia/Dallara) 1:23:191
25. Astrid Abrahamsen (Life) 1:23:343
26. Emanuele Pirro (Scuderia Italia/Dallara) 1:23:481
DNQ Alex Caffi (Arrows) 1:25:441
DNQ JJ Lehto (Onyx) 1:25:848
DNQ David Brabham (Brabham) 1:26:231
DNQ Stefan Johansson (Onyx) 1:27:379

I was hoping to make it... and i did. Notable is the first double start for SI/Dallara, Caffi DNQs yet again, both Onyx from hero to zero, Brabham was awful, Larrousse managed to get both cars in the top 10, EvDP is on par with his teammate, Gugelmin continues to be laughable in qualifying pace, Alliot managed to get his Ligier in 10th, and Herbert finally got time to adapt to the car, and he qualified.

Qualifying 2:

1. Ayrton Senna (McLaren) 1:16:307
2. Nigel Mansell (Ferrari) 1:16:375
3. Eric van de Poele (Williams) 1:16:545

25. Emanuele Pirro (Scuderia Italia/Dallara) 1:25:538
26. Michele Alboreto (Arrows) 1:25:606

Not too much to talk about.

FLAP: Aguri Suzuki, 01:16.449

Main talking points of the race:

-Riccardo Patrese made a really dumb mistake. I was fighting Piquet for the point, when he tries to overtake Piquet down the outside of the Peraltada of all corners, and he crashed, losing the rear wing and retiring.
-Nelson Piquet also doesn't escape the clutches of idiotness. He tried to overtake down the inside when i have the inside line, and spuns out. Hadn't been for that, i would have the hands all sweaty trying to hold him off for the last laps.
-Eric van de Poele made a terrific debut for the Williams team. Getting 3rd on the grid and finishing 5th is a good sign for things to come.
-McLaren finally win a race, with both cars finishing, for the second time this year.
