Including the two week rule (can't compete in one race in Europe in one week, then one in America the next), based on the rounds of Anglo-Irish F4 he has already raced in, DiBenedetto cannot partake in Lights between Rounds 2 and 5. If he were to continue to do a full season of AI F4, the only two rounds of the entire season he could race in would be Puebla (1) and Laguna Seca (10).

DiBenedetto : round 1 and 10
Pepitto : round 2, 4, 7 and 8

So Panthera will just engage a car for the rounds: 3, 5, 6 and 9

I'm not sure if there's a link to a different template for this kicking about, but if you want, you can create your own liveries for the series. The updated PSD including series contigs (keep 'em please) are located here, and also at the foot of the opening post.

While I get the liveries finished (3/17 done so far), let's get the driver lineups sorted with some RNG.

Normal32, can I get some written confirmation as to whether Shawn DiBenedetto accepts his offer, and under what terms? I've heard various noises from you about it but nothing 100% concrete. Is he accepting the offer, and if so, is he jettisoning his AIF4 campaign for it, or will he miss races here so he can do both?

Now, for some RNG;

Alfonso Celis, Jr.
Celis Jr has been called upon by Dream Racing to pilot their car for the first half of the season. He won't get a chance to return afterwards - they're planning to hire other people to pay for the remaining races - but it's a start.
1-80 Accepts
81-99 Will only agree to a full-season contract, expects team to find sponsors to cover the budget shortfall of 4 races from what he provdes.
100 Refuses
16. Celis Jr settles for 5 races out of 10 this season.

Pietro Fittipaldi
Like Celis Jr, he has money for more races, but has only been offered 4 out of 10. The back four, to be precise. Likewise, it's not quite the programme he'd hoped for.
1-75 Accepts
76-99 Will only agree to a full-season contract, expects team to find sponsors to cover the budget shortfall of 4 races from what he provides.
100 Refuses
54. Fittipaldi settles for doing just the back four.

Antonio Giovinazzi
Giovinazzi is a driver short on budget. He has found himself unable to get a foothold in the upper echelons of European motorsport as he may have hoped, and so an offer from America to try again at blazing a career path in racing is a welcome Plan B.
1-95 Accepts
96-100 Wants to hold out hope for something in Europe
75. Gio follows in the footsteps of millions of Italians before him, and packs up his things for America.

Once the DiBenedetto situation is clarified, we should have all drivers in place and ready to go!

Racer wrote:Askew takes dominant win amongst tyre degradation havoc
Image

Oliver Askew laid down an imperious marker to the rest of the Indy Lights field at the opening race of the year in Puebla, with a dominant victory which saw him lead 68 consecutive laps out of the race total of 80.

Askew started on the inside of row two, directly planted behind Mitchell Macklin. The polesitter, Facu Regalia, had opted to take the outside lane, a poor choice which allowed Macklin into the lead and for Askew to follow through into second. He then slipped down the inside of Macklin at Turn 1 on the third lap, and didn't seem too troubled afterwards.

There was a brief moment of difficulty for the former US F2000 champion, as the #12 Juncos car of John Davis was the fastest car on track in the opening stages, and had climbed from 9th to 2nd in only the opening five laps. By lap six, Davis had flung his way around the outside at Turn 4, using the high line which had worked so effectively for him in the opening exchanges.

The reigning North American Formula 4 champion however was not used to the different tyre characteristics of the Hankooks, and Davis found himself dropping back down the order having overheated his rubber.

This left Askew with a clear path to victory, and over the space of the next 68 laps slowly but consistently increased the gap to those behind, with a winning margin of 7.6 seconds in the end.

In sharp contrast to Askew, the race's polesitter Facu Regalia had a disastrous race. In the first dozen laps, the Argentine had plummeted all the way down to 19th, and when attempting to recover positions, he ran into the right-rear of Santino Ferrucci. The mistake cost Regalia his front-wing, and consigned him to finishing dead last, a lap down on the rest of the field.

Image

The midfield battle was a hard one to follow, with constant dicing for position. At the two-thirds mark, things seemed to have finally settled, only for tyre degradation to suddenly come to the fore with a dozen laps left.

The main victim of poor tyre management was John Davis, who having climbed his way back into the podium places again, dropped like a stone through the field on worn rubber. On Lap 61, he had been running third; by lap 74 he was all the way down in 12th, where he would remain until the finish.

When others fall, there is always someone ready to pick up the pieces, but the main beneficiary of the high tyre degradation was an unexpected one. Of the twenty competitors, Luis Michael Dörrbecker is considered the only gentleman driver, and had finished slowest in every practise and qualifying session during the weekend. Having stayed in the rear pack for the first 50 laps, he found a burst of pace to move himself up to 11th place, and when tyre wear started to hamper the frontrunners, the Mexican pounced.

In an surreal eight lap sequence, he picked off rivals one lap at a time, eventually climbing all the way to 5th position, though the equally hard charging Sennan Fielding took a Top 5 finish away from him, the Brit using the same type of strategy as Dorrbecker leading up to the finish. He wasn't able to stay ahead of Carlin's Marco Bizzarri for long either, but a 7th place on merit was the drive of the race from Dorrbecker.

Marco Bizzarri gets off to the wrong kind of flying start.

A picture says a thousand words. You'd need an entire gallery to piece together the second round of the season of Indy Lights at Long Beach, where the field descended into utter madness, and saw several bans handed out up and down the field.

Oliver Askew was one of the few drivers to rise above the madness which permeated the race, scoring what was in the end a comfortable victory, but only thanks to his closest competitor Antonio Giovinazzi being eliminated from contention by a third party.

Before the battle for the lead could settle in, the midfield stramash needed time to resolve its various quarrels. Mitchell Macklin was the first man to find the wall, namely the outside of Turn 1 on the opening lap. Jerry de Boer decided to follow suit with a similar accident, running wide and into the tyre barriers at the exit of Turn 8, where he was collected by unknowing John Murdoch.

Despite there being two incidents on the first lap, this was only the calm before the storm. Pelfrey team-mates Alessandro Marchesi and Santino Ferrucci were squabbling over 7th place, the former having slipped back from a surprise third place grid slot. Ferrucci nudged the Italian driver into a spin at Turn 4, from which Marchesi was impatient to recover from. His spin turn put him directly into the path of Rio Haryanto, and the ferocious impact sent them both into the air. Marchesi retired on the spot, but somehow Haryanto's suspension survived the impact, and he pressed on, albeit after a trip to pitlane for a new nosecone.

This in turn caused the next accident, wherein Marco Bizzarri tripped over the ailing Haryanto, trying to squeeze down the inside of Turn 5 where there wasn't quite a car's width to pass, and flipped his Carlin into the air.

While this saw the end of the aerobics, it was not the end of the aggression and attrition that would blight the race. Jorge del Rio was having a great run in third place, fighting with then-leader Giovinazzi and Askew for first place, before he was mercilessly eliminated by the lapped Jerry de Boer, who had spun exiting Turn 1, and proceeded to drive the wrong way round the circuit to find room to spin-turn. The Mexican was able to limp back to the pits, but the damage was terminal.

While Haryanto had been a victim early on, he turned perpetrator whilst being lapped by the leading duo.
The Eaglesport driver made the bizarre choice to try and unlap himself, lunging down the inside of Turn 1,
collecting both Askew and Giovinazzi, the former having taken the lead just after the halfway mark. Askew suffered only minor bodywork damage and pressed on, but both Giovinazzi's hopes and car were broken.

Despite the mustard yellow Carlin not quite being at full strength, Askew nonetheless was able nurse the car home to win by over half a minute over Ed Howitzer, who secured his first Lights podium with a sensible drive, despite being run into by Ayla Agren earlier in the race. The final podium position demonstrated how crime does pay after all, with Santino Ferrucci - the man who started the chain of events for the second lap melee - taking third place. While 12 cars finished, only 10 were classified, with Jerry de Boer and Benoit Voeckler disqualified for their negligence during the course of the race.

RANDOM EVENT: ON A CHICKEN WING AND A PRAYER

Canadian food company Pinty's are interested in supplementing their NASCAR marketing with a foray into IndyCar. To that end, they are exploring their option for a full season's sponsorship in 2020 with a partial campaign in 2019.

They are willing to offer three races worth of guaranteed sponsorship to any team this year, without any conditions as to who drivers the car sponsored by them. However, there are conditions to acquiring this sponsorship.

They are 'tendering' out the sponsorship by having interested suitors compete against each other. Interested teams must nominate a car for the Indy Freedom 100 for which they'd like to receive the sponsorship for, and the highest placed car from the teams that enter the tendering process will win the contract for 2019, along with first preference for 2020, which will be negotiated at the conclusion of the 2019 season.

This random event is open to all teams which do not already have a full slate of team sponsors for the 2019 season. Take note that driver sponsors are exempt from that rule; only sponsors signed directly, rather than inherited from a pay-driver, are considered part of a team's sponsorship slate.

The winner will receive 3 races worth of condition-free sponsorship to be used with the winning car of the tender during the 2019 season, and will have exclusive first-round signing access to Pinty's sponsorship for 2020. The conditions for the 2020 sponsorship will be as follows;

 • 10 races - Sign Parker Thompson
 • 7 races - Sign a Canadian driver
 • 5 races - No conditions

Please take note however that teams who participate in the random event, but do not secure the 2019 sponsorship, will be locked out of signing Pinty's as a sponsor at any point during the 2020 season.

If you wish to partake in this random event, please fill out the following form within the next 7 days:

Code: Select all

Team: <enter team name here>
Nominated car: <enter car number here e.g. "#17">

Rejectsport wrote:Davis wins despite backmarker collision

John Davis survived a collision with a backmarker to take his first Indy Lights victory at the Indianapolis GP circuit, retaking first place from title rival Antonio Gioviniazzi after an unscheduled stop for a broken front wing.

Davis led away from pole and disappeared into the distance, at one point holding a lead of nearly 40 seconds. However, his dominance became unstuck around the two-thirds mark when coming to lap debutant Adélaïde Voeckler at Turn 7.

Voeckler initially appeared to leave the door open for Davis to pass down the inside, only to turn in late for the apex and leave Davis nowhere to go but into the Double Seven driver's rear. Rio Haryanto was also collected in the collision, having pulled in behind Voeckler to let Davis by.

Giovinazzi briefly took the lead, with Davis exiting pit road with a new front wing three seconds behind Voeckler's team-mate. Two laps later, Davis drafted past on the start-finish straight and wouldn't look back.

Giovinazzi was well clear of a race-long scrap over third between Carlin team-mates Oliver Askew and Marco Bizzarri. Changing places lap after lap, championship leader Askew eventually got the better of his more experienced team-mate, demoting Bizzarri to fourth.

Image

Mitchell Macklin won a close battle over fifth, beating Jorge del Rio and Ed Howitzer in sixth and seventh. Haryanto recovered to eighth after a pit stop of his own for a new front wing, snatching the place away from Facu Regalia at the penultimate turn of the race when the Juncos pilot was blocked by the lapped John Murdoch. Regalia clung on to ninth, with Marchesi completing the top 10 right on his gearbox.

Marjolein Postma was forced to pit early on when she lost her front wing, but recovered strongly to 11th on her Lights debut.

In an attempt to get the new Penske-France North American Motorsports Association (NAMSA) off the ground for 2022, I've been trying to get the relevant series up to date. I had Ataxia's permission to take IndyCar forward and didn't realize the 2019 Indy Lights series was being run separately. So, if people are upset by my mistake, I'm happy to delete it from canon:

2019 Indy Lights Season Review

As expected, Carlin's Oliver Askew dominated the season, winning the championship by 40 points over Peak Motorsports Canada's Mitchell Macklin, 234-194. Askew finished the season with three wins, eight podiums, and nine top-5 finishes. His only major mistake came in Montreal when, after winning the pole, his gearbox broke on the first lap. However, any damage in the points race was contained by a five-car crash on lap 12 that ended the day of his nearest competitors.

While Marco Bizzari only finished 12th in the season standings, Askew was also able to drag him to the team championship. They beat PMC by 54 points, 323-269. The race for second, though, was intense. With three races left, Juncos Racing had 206 points, Eaglesport/All American Racers had 183 and PMC had 164.

That's when Juncos' reliability cost them second place. John Davis, coming off a stretch of four podiums in five races, finished outside the top-5 in each of the last three, while Facu Regalia finished 14-20-4. That left a gap for EagleSport, which took advantage with Ed Howitzer's 2nd and Rio Haryanto's 6th at Watkins Glens moving them into second. Howitzer (4th) and Haryanto (9th) performed well again at Pocono, but Macklin's win and most laps led narrowed the gap to 254-225.

That still seemed insurmountable, but Macklin's win from the pole at Laguna Seca combined by Haryanto's 21st place finish after a broken axle allowed PMC to finish second with 269 points to EagleSport's 267.

Davis's late struggles also cost him a chance to be on the season-ending podium, as Belardi Auto Racing's Sennan Fielding beat him for third by 163-160.

Among the season's other highlights were Luis Michael Dörrbecker's domination of Canada, following up a second-place finish in Toronto to win the chaotic Montreal race, and Nil Montserrat's one-off drive in Toronto turning into Dream Racing's only win of the season. The 74 car performed well all season, posting the same 138 points that saw Dörrbecker finish sixth in the championship.

After Askew, Macklin, Fielding and Davis, Howitzer took fifth, Dörrbecker was sixth, Antonio Giovinazzi (DoubleSeven) took seventh, Alessandro Marchesi finished eighth, Haryanto was ninth and Jorge Del Rio (Union Saver) finished out the top 10.
