2016 Malaysian GP - IIDOTR

Post by DemocalypseNow »

Impressive performances? Both McLarens in points. Palmer point. Red Bull 1-2! What's the most improbable of them all?

1. Red Bull Racing: Amazing one-two, picked up the ball after Mercedes dropped it. Ricciardo is the man!
2. Jolyon Palmer: First point after a couple of near misses. Well done!

1. Palmer - Scored a point. C'mon that should be No.1

2. Dan Ricciardo - Defended Verstappen really well. Deserved the win

HM - Fernando Alonso as always, Jenson Button, and the collective 3 of Verstappen, Horner and Rosberg for doing the shoey

1. Jolyon Palmer - Yep. I didn't think he'd actually score this year, let alone in the Renault. Then I get proven completely incorrect.

2. Nico Rosberg, Christian Horner - I don't know what the hell they were thinking when they decided to do the shoey with Dan.

HM: McLaren, particularly Fernando Alonso - How the bathplug did he pull off 7th from the back of the grid in that car? Also, how did they not drop like a boulder here?

1. Jolyon Palmer - probably his best drive to date, earning a well deserved-point.
2. Red Bull - fine, it's not a surprise that they were up at the front. However, they took a few risks, pushed Mercedes all the way and reaped the rewards on offer.

1. Jolyon Palmer - in respect for the tradition on this website, Palmer picking up a point without lucking massively into it has to receive this award.
2. Daniel Ricciardo - Finally getting his well-earned win from this year. The fourth race winner of 2016, which is already more winners than 2014 and 2015. Ricciardo has been consistently quick and this is his just reward for being there when the Mercedes were not (see my Vettel point on ROTR).

Honourable mentions:
- Renault - they got two points-finishing positions in a row, which in their car is a serious achievement!
- Nico Rosberg - for climbing above the pile of shite this race could have been for him. He could have retired after that first corner, he could have crashed into someone in his many overtakes, he could have failed to manage the gap to Kimi. It's worth mentioning that he finished on the podium after starting the race effectively last.
- Valtteri Bottas - a 5th for a Williams is commendable in this year's car. He really is the only one who can get Williams ahead of Force India this year.
- Fernando Alonso - for reaching 10th in the world championship standings. It may just be a meaningless number to some, but I think it's symbolic. His hard work is slowly but surely paying off.
Murray Walker at the 1997 Austrian Grand Prix wrote:The other [Stewart] driver, who nobody's been paying attention to, because he's disappointing, is Jan Magnussen.
Felipe Nasr - the least forgettable F1 driver!

1. Jolyon Palmer - Top job, like Hungary without the spin.
2. Nico Rosberg - Showed he really wants to emulate his father today.

1. Jolyon Palmer - Finally on the board.
2. Valtteri Bottas - Williams weren't really at the races this weekend, so a solid points finish is a job very well done.

Honourable mentions

Daniel Ricciardo - The hero we, and Formula 1 needs, but doesn't deserve.
Fernando Alonso - Very very good drive from the back of the grid.
Marcus Ericsson - Ran very well this weekend, comfortably ahead of Nasr, and I held out hope that he may sneak a point.
I like the way Snrub thinks!

1. Jolyon Palmer I was not expecting anything from Renault this race, instead he picked up the best results of his F1 career.

2. McLaren Both car the top10 is a good achievement for the Woking's team.
