2020 Engine Development - Week V

Post by Klon »

As you know, each engine has three performance factors:
Engine Power, which is the performance output of your electric motor (Caterham has maxed out this stat
Qualifying Mode, which is the performance boost your engine can produce over a single lap
Reliability, which is the likelihood of your engine to fail

Each point costs €1,000,000 and for any value you are limited to ten points. For the first year, each works team has been given 20 million to account for these costs. From 2020 onwards, the works teams finance developing their engines with their engine contracts: the works team gets 10 percent of the price a customer team pays. This value rises to 20 percent if a team has been with the same manufacturer for three or more consecutive seasons (in the hydrogen era).

As the phrase above implies, teams can from this point on agree on engine supply contracts with the three manufacturers mentioned above. Toyota will start with a maxed-out engine, but cannot sign customers in 2020. Agreements can be made freely with a maximum price of €40,000,000 being the sole limitations. You can add any clauses or agreements you desire. To confirm an engine contract, both sides must inform me of their agreement.

Rejectsport wrote:JJD: "I would prefer a challenge"
James James Davies has thanked the Caterham team for providing him his first taste of F1 machinery since his retirement at the end of 2015. Davies was reportedly fairly competitive during the test, but has downplayed the chances of this translating into a full-time drive with the squad.

"We really haven't had those kind of discussions yet," Davies said following the test, "It was just a case of them needing somebody who's adapted to all kinds of new machinery in their career, and me needing an opportunity to get back up to speed with current F1 cars."

Davies would not rule out the possibility of driving for Caterham in 2020, however, as both drivers are currently in the final year of their contract, with Lewis Hamilton reportedly considering retirement himself. However, these rumours have been denied by Hamilton himself in recent weeks. Davies himself also later stated that he would prefer "a challenge" on his Formula 1 return.

"I would prefer not to just walk into the best team in F1, actually - I've already proven myself the best driver, so for me this is just proving that even now none of these losers really ever stood a chance against me, y'know?" Davies went on to list a number of teams that he had had some form of discussions with, including Sauber, Ferrari, Toyota, FAST, Theodore, Williams, and 'some ARWS teams'.
Sebastian Vettel wrote:If I was good at losing I wouldn't be in Formula 1.
Everything's great.
I'm not surprised about anything.
