Autosport wrote:BTCC 2010: Season Preview
The beginning of a new era for the BTCC began at Brands Hatch, with new regulations, teams, cars and drivers for 2010 getting their first official running this season at the Media Day test. The times set during this test became all the more important for this season, as due to the large field, the slowest four teams on aggregate would be forced to pre-qualify for the season. This article covers each teams fortunes over the test, and considers their prospects for the season:

West Surrey Racing
Image
2. Menu 39.615
13. Chilton 39.951
Aggregate:
2. WSR 79.566
The 2009 champions seemed to be back on the pace after a lull in performance at the end of last year, with new recruit Alain Menu narrowly missing out on the fastest time in the now NGTC engined BMW, and Chilton only three tenths down in a tight field, making them the second-fastest team on aggregate. However, the reliability of the new engines may pose a problem in their title defence, as will rumoured financial issues; it is very likely that the team will have to run pay drivers this year.

Seat Sport UK
Image
3. Plato 39.663
17. Jordan 40.166
Aggregate:
5. Seat Sport 79.829
After finally winning a driver's championship after six years of trying, the aim for Seat must surely be to try and win both titles this year, considering how close they got to regaining the crown they last won in 2006 despite Plato scoring all but eight of their points total last year. Alongside new teammate, the inexperienced Andrew Jordan (who lasted competed in 2008 with Eurotech) the Seats ran reasonably well in the test, with Plato third but Jordan only seventeenth (albeit only half a second off the pace of his teammate). Seat's success this season therefore depends on the young driver stepping up to perform alongside Plato, something Jones never managed last year.

Clyde Valley Racing
Image
1. Muller 39.609
12. Shedden 39.933
Aggregate:
1. CVR 79.542
During the off-season, last year's top independent runners secured a major coup in securing 2003 Champion Yvan Muller's services for 2010, and it appears to have paid off already, with Frenchman setting the fastest time at Brands Hatch and Shedden's more subdued 12th place also meaning that the team topped the session on aggregate as well. CVR, considering their reliable and fast drivers and cars are definitely the favourites for the Independent title this year, and either of their drivers stand a good chance of challenging for the main title as well.

Triple Eight Race Engineering
Image
6. Adam 39.742
15. Giovanardi 40.001
Aggregate:
3. Triple Eight 79.743
Ian Harrison's team has suffered the ignominy of losing its GM works backing after a disappointing and expensive 2009 campaign, with the cars now running in a black, sponsorless livery instead of VXR colours. However, this financial instability hasn't seemed to have affected the team's performance on-track, with Adam in sixth and Giovanardi fifteenth, leaving them as third-best team at the test. However, a lack of cash does still remain an issue , so it is likely Gio will need to make way for a pay-driver at some point this season to keep the team afloat.

Arena Motorsport
Image
10. Coronel 39.883
21. Collard 40.309
Aggregate:
=9. Arena 80.192
Like Triple Eight, the de-facto Ford works team still appears to be consigned to best-of-the-rest status behind the teams challenging for the title, with Adam's replacement Coronel scraping inside the top ten while 2009 race winner Collard was a disappointing 20th place, nearly half a second back. It's clear that the Focus still needs further development before it becomes a front-running car capable of winning consistently, and the team may even fall into the clutches of privateer Seat teams ever-so-slightly back...

RML Silverline Chevrolet
Image
7. Thompson 39.752
27. Smith 40.437
Aggregate:
8. RML 80.189
RML enter 2010 with full works Chevrolet backing and a new chassis, but this has made little impact on the team's form; admittedly, Thompson is slightly closer to the front in the Cruze than he was this time last year in the Lacetti, but his paying teammate Jeff Smith is a long way down the order in 27th place, nearly a full second off his teammate's pace. Race wins are possible, like last year, but on this form, a sustained championship challenge may still be out of reach for Ray Mallock's boys.

GR Asia
Image
9. Gene 39.859
14. Foster 39.975
Aggregate:
4. GR Asia 79.834
Compared to the disaster for GR Asia that was the 2209 Media Day Test, this year was a considerable improvement; Jordi Gene, who replaces Tom Coronel was an impressive ninth place (a postion ahead of his predecessor) in his first run in a BTCC Leon, while pay-driver Nick Foster was a place ahead of double champion Fabrizio Giovanardi, highlighting the competetiveness of the petrol Seat package. Considering their comparative pace with fellow Seat runners Maxtreme, it should be a very close battle between the two.

Maxtreme Motorsport
Image
8. Michelisz 39.823
23. Pinkney 40.323
Aggregate:
7. Maxtreme 80.146
Last year Maxtreme supassed all expectations in their debut season- they won within six races, and were consistent podium scorers all year, despite missing the first 12 races and operating off a shoestring budget with a three year-old car. This year, expectations must surely be high with driver stability and newer chassis, and early signs look good; Michelisz was eighth, Pinkney half a second off his pace in 23rd. It will be interesting to see what this team does with modern chassis over a full season.

Tech-Speed
Image
11. Neal 39.905
30. O'Neill 40.713
Aggregate:
13. Tech-Speed 80.618
Tech-Speed, however, had a much worse day. Running the 407s which topped the test last year (inherited from TH, who they have merged with) much was expected of Eurotech refugee Matt Neal and the returning Paul O'Neill. Instead, Neil was only 11th, while O'Neill had a shocker and set the 30th fastest time, faster only than Depper and James, this performance enough to drop Tech-Speed out of automatic pre-qualification. This lack of pace puts serious doubts on Marvin Humphries team's ability to run competitively this season, especially considering the woeful reliability the Peugeots had in TH's hands last year.

HARD Motorbase
Image
18. Gilham 40.175
19. Jackson 40.241
Aggregate:
11. Motorbase 80.416
Another team which had a tough day was Motorbase, with both Civics almost a second off Muller's pace. Jackson's pace was especially disappointing, being a tenth slower than his cage-fighting near-rookie teammate, Tony Gilham. Unless improvements are made, another year in the wilderness beckons for the team.

Bamboo Engineering
Image
16. Nash 40.080
26. Collins 40.408
Aggregate:
12. Bamboo 80.488
Back with a new name, new management, new drivers and a new car it was nonetheless business as usual at the team formerly known as Tempus Sport, with a rather anonymous perfomance by both drivers in the lower midfield, albeit one consistent enough to ensure that they don't have to pre-qualify for the opening rounds on aggregate. Points are a possibility, and a surprise good result akin to Gavin Smith's reverse grid podium last year is not entirely off the cards due to the Lacetti's reliability.

Eurotech
Image
25. Onslow-Cole 40.391
31. Depper 40.724
Aggregate:
15. Eurotech 81.115
If there was one team that truly dropped the ball, however, it would be Eurotech. Onslow-Cole and Depper struggled with the reliability of the fragile C30 during both sessions (they also ran in the second test for teams that pre-qualified last year) and the best the former could wring out of the Pirtek-liveried car was 25th (his time in the first session was even worse, and would have put him 31st!) while Depper was second-last predicably. This season may even more difficult for Mike Jordan's team than the disastrous 2009 season, with worse pace and seemingly unimproved reliability.

Honda Racing
Image
4. Farfus 39.666
24. Bennani 40.385
6. Honda 80.051
By contrast, Honda's running on the test shows what a difference a year can make. The new Civic, complete with an NGTC turbo was right on the pace out of the box in WTCC star Farfus's hands, and provided the new car holds together could even challenge for the title, while inexperienced Moroccan Bennani is understandably off his teammate's pace. This is still a rebuilding year for the former Dynamics squad, but it would not be a surprise if they beat their meagre 2009 points haul [of 8] by Thruxton the way they are performing.

Boulevard Team Racing
Image
22. Neate 40.311
32. James 43.365
Aggregate:
16. Boulevard 83.676
Also thinking towards 2011 are Boulevard Team Racing, the team still feeling the financial effects of employing former WTCC champion Andy Priaulx last year, but providing him with a recalcitrant Seat Toledo which he could only coax to a single ninth place over their truncated season together, seriously limiting their funding. This year there is more money than talent in the race seats with Andy Neate and Chris James financing much newer Lacetti's with NGTC spec engines, which Neate at least took advantage of, setting the 22nd fastest time. James, however was dead last anyway. Pre-qualifying for races may be a bridge too far, except maybe on power circuits.

AFM Racing
Image
20. Ferrier 40.300
28. Eaves 40.548
Aggregate:
14. AFM 80.848
As the smallest team in the BTCC right now, and considering that they are running exactly the same cars they turned up with at Brands last year, Rick Kerry's team did surprisingly well at the test; the experienced pairing of Ferrier and Eaves managed to get both their cars into the top 30, and based on this pace the team would even stand some chance of making it onto a race grid, at least until other cars are further developed.

Special Tuning UK
Image
5. Turkington 39.720
29. Forster 40.472
Aggregate:
=9. Special Tuning 80.192
A new entrant for 2010, Special Tuning UK and their unique LPG-powered Honda Accords have made a stunning start to their debut campaign, with shock signing Colin Turkington putting his car into 5th place, and Forster even setting sufficient pace to hope to qualify his Honda for races. It still seems unlikely that Turks will be able to challenge for either title in 2010 with this team, but it's a solid start and wins are certainly possible.

Not attending the test (but expected to join the series) are BTC Racing who have quiet as to their plans over the winter, and the new teams AmDTuning and Forster who are also yet to announce if or when they are joining the series, but are unlikely to be at Thruxton in April.

In case it is unclear, Tech-Speed, AFM, Eurotech and Boulevard will have to pre-qualify until after Oulton Park, where the list is recalculated.

I may be interested in taking BTC Racing for the 2010 Season. Would I have to wait until mid-season to enter since I missed pre-season testing?

I ran Thruxton yesterday so you will be able to join the series for Rounds 4-6 at Rockingham if you can place your car and driver bids within a week or so.

Autosport wrote:BTC Under New Management; Stockton to Switch to Reserve Role

A press release during the weekend reveals that BTC Racing has been bought out by a yet-to-be-named buyer. The BTCC team claims that it is in the process of obtaining the necessary entry forms to compete in the 2010 season. Chris Stockton will be put in charge of race weekend activities, serving as reserve driver should a substitute be needed.

"It's been a difficult off-season, and when we missed the media day we thought we wouldn't be allowed to race," Stockton spoke during the announcement. "We are scrambling to get a car together in time for Rockingham and we hope to improve upon our performance last year."

The team experienced a downturn in fortune in the 2009 season, as Stockton's lackluster pace frequently put the team off the grid in pre-qualifying. Tom George is expected to stay on-board for 2010, but the second driver has yet to be named, as is the car the team will run. The team is cleared to participate in the series from the 2nd weekend onwards, and it is likely they will have to pre-qualify based on their lackluster performance last season.

Here is my entry then:

Team: BTC Racing

Chassis: BMW 320i E46
Engine: Stock

Driver #1:
John George
Chris James

Driver #2:
Stephen Kane
Alex Macdowell
Phil Glew

I'm a bit late, but here are the results from the opening rounds of the 2010 season from Thruxton:

Pre-Qualifying

Code: Select all

1 Matt Neal      1m 02.823s DNQ
2 Tom Onslow-Cole   1m 03.319s DNQ
3 Andy Neate            1m 03.325s
4 Tom Ferrier           1m 03.346s
5 Dan Eaves             1m 03.390s
6 Chris James           1m 03.402s
7 Martin Depper         1m 03.713s DNQ
8 Paul O'Neill          1m 04.537s DNQ

Aggregate:
1 Boulevard  2m 06.727s
2 AFM        2m 06.736s
DNQ:
3 Tech-Speed 2m 07.360s
4 Eurotech   2m 07.032s

The opening pre-qualifying session of the season managed to produce results which seemed to contradict almost everything suggested in the Media Day test's results; Boulevard, the slowest team, suddenly managed to find enough form to top pre-qualifying on aggregate, (albeit with the help of their NGTC engines) while even more remarkably, the seriously underpowered AFM BMWs of Eaves and Ferrier joined them, outpacing the theoretically far faster Volvos and Peugeots. Paul O'Neill's poor performance however, must seriously put him under the spotlight, having dragged Neal out of contention.

Quali-1:

Code: Select all

1. Alain Menu
1m 02.526s
2. Jason Plato
1m 02.556s
3. Norbert Michelisz
1m 02.664s
4. Augusto Farfus
1m 02.715s
5. Rob Collard
1m 02.729s
6. Jordi Gene
 1m 02.787s
7. Tom Coronel
1m 02.787s
8. James Thompson
1m 02.792s
9. Tom Chilton
1m 02.811s
10. Yvan Muller
1m 02.841s
11. Gordon Shedden
1m 02.868s
12. Colin Turkington
1m 02.901s
13.   Andy Neate
1m 02.908s
14. Nick Foster
1m 02.913s
15. Chris James
1m 02.991s
16. Jonathan Adam
1m 03.026s
17. Jeff Smith
1m 03.037s
18. Andrew Jordan
 1m 03.044s
19. Dan Eaves
1m 03.228s
20. James Nash
1m 03.315s
21. Dave Pinkney
1m 03.330s
22. Tom Ferrier
1m 03.337s
23. Fabrizio Giovanardi
1m 03.411s
24. Mehdi Bennani
1m 03.470s
25. Mat Jackson
1m 03.578s
26. Tony Gilham
1m 03.630s
DNQ:
27. Ben Collins
28. Arthur Forster

There were less surprised looks after Quali-1, with Menu on pole in the turbo BMW and Plato starting his title defence strongly. Remarkably, both Boulevard and AFM cars made the grid, with the former even making it into the top fifteen, something that many series regulars, including Giovanardi, failed to achieve. Forster unsurprisingly failed to qualify, as did ex-F3 driver Ben Collins in his first touring car appearance.

This race was unpredictable, to say the least. Initially, it was Plato who got away best, pulling away from the chasing pack of Menu, Michelisz and Farfus, who were also well away from the rest of the top ten. Meanwhile, the Boulevard cars were creating a Jarama '81-type situation in the lower midfield , being hopeless in the corners, but uncatchable on the straights.

By the middle of the race however, the situation was very different; Thruxton is always hard on engines, and it seems as if the NGTC engines weren't quite ready for it; by the end of the race, both Hondas and WSR BMWs had failed, the only consolation for the latter being Menu's fastest lap. These were not the only engine problems in the field; on lap 18, Jason Plato's luck ran out, his diesel engine flaming out, giving Michelisz a clear run to victory in his new Seat, with Collard and James Thompson making up a shock podium result.

Speaking of shock results, Chris James managed to defy all concievable logic by dragging his Lacetti into the points with ninth, equalling the team's best ever result, albeit due to attrition.

Quali-2 highlighted how much progress the Dynamics team had made over the off-season with newcomer Farfus gaining their first pole position since Snetterton 2008 with the new Civic. Race 1 winner Michelisz joined him on the front row, with the WSR cars behind keen to make up for the double retirement in race 1. Gilham and Forster failed to qualify for round 2.

Norbert Michelisz jumped Farfus led from lights to flag, but it was by no means easy for him, having to fend off attacks from the Honda driver, as well as the three BMWs of Menu (who set fastest lap), Chilton and Shedden (who unfortunately dropped back on the final lap with technical issues), the margin between them being just four tenths of a second. Conspicuously absent from this battle were Colin Turkington and Jason Plato; they were both out by the third lap with mechanical problems. Boulevard Racing also had a reality check after their stunning Race 1 performance - by mid-distance both cars were out. Andrew Jordan finished eighth, scoring Seat's first points this year and also gaining the most power for Quali-3, although BTCC rookie and seventh place finisher Jeff Smith took pole.

Jeff Smith made a brilliant start and was well in control in front of Andrew Jordan's Seat, and for the first half of the race this remained stable. The race 2 battle pack of Chilton, Menu and Shedden (Farfus had already retired his fragile Honda) were catching up with him, and then passed him, dropping him to fifth when Chilton collided with the Seat driver. Smith still seemed to far in the distance for second-placed Menu to catch, but tragically his engine gave up on the 18th, robbing the Hampshire crowds of a shock victory, but giving Menu a nonetheless deserved win, the first for a NGTC-engined car; Menu also took fastest lap. Meanwhile, Mat Jackson, after struggling to find any speed in his ex-Dynamics Civic, finally coaxed it into the points, but this still looks to be a difficult season for the Motorbase team.

Feel free to upgrade cars (unless your name is Rick Kerry) or sack drivers within the next week or so before Rockingham. There has been a change to the upgrade system this year; teams are only allowed to perform up to two upgrades of the same type (out of up to three in total) between each round,

For the uninitiated (or just forgetful), here are the four different upgrades and there prices:
Quali Pace - 5CR
Race Pace -5CR
Engine Power - 2CR
Reliability - 4CR
As per last year, there will be a RNG to decide whether your upgrade attempts are successful.

Can you perhaps post the upgrades on the first post? I'd rather not fish through older posts months later to find it :D

Quick correction - Boulevard are listed in the race as using SEATs, when they are in Lacettis.

Oops- I must have forgotten to change the name- I mean you were definitely running Lacettis in the race. Anyway, it's fixed now.

Looking at the pace of the petrol Leons, perhaps ditching them for BMWs was not such a good choice after all....

You would be on -4CR if you decide to do this, so would hence have to employ more paydrivers near the end of the year to break even- you are in your rights to do this, so this is just a warning in case you were unaware of your team's financial state.

I will be running the Rockingham rounds within the next few days, so here's the RNG results for the upgrade attempts between rounds:

Arena Quali Pace:
1-70 Succeed, 71-100 Fail
Result=96, so Arena's fails to improve their car's so far lacklustre performance in qualifying

Special Tuning Engine Power I
1-70 Succeed, 71-100 Fail
Result= 19, meaning Special Tunings first round of upgrades ekes more power out of their LPG engine.

Special Tuning Engine Power II
1-60 Succeed, 61-100 Fail
Result=57, as does their second attempt

Boulevard Engine Power I
1-70 Succeed, 71-100 Fail
Result= 92; Boulevards testing has no effect intially...

Boulevard Engine Power II
1-60 Succeed, 61-100 Fail
Result= 21, but eventually their rather expensive work on their NGTC engine pays off.

Maxtreme Engine Power
1-70 Succeed, 71-100 Fail
Result= 62, meaning the Indy championship leaders have more power going into Rounds 4-6

Bamboo Engine Power
1-70 Succeed, 71-100 Fail
Result= 19, so Bamboo will have more power at Rockingham.

CVR Quali Pace I
1-70 Succeed, 71-100 Fail
Result=57, so CVR's testing should improve their mediocre qualifying so far this year...

CVR Quali Pace II
1-60 Succeed, 61-100 Fail
Result= 98, but their attempts to further this improvement are unsuccessful.

Here are the results from the second weekend of the TCBY Virtual BTCC from Rockingham;

Pre-Qualifying:

Code: Select all

1 Tom Onslow-Cole
1m 23.537s
2 Stephen Kane (DNPQ)
1m 23.761s
3 Alex MacDowell
1m 24.725s
4 Matt Neal (DNPQ)
1m 25.479s
5 Martin Depper
1m 25.574s
6 Gavin Smith
1m 25.672s
7 Paul O'Neill (DNPQ)
1m 26.593s
8 John George (DNPQ)
1m 27.630s
9 Chris James (DNPQ)
1m 29.749s
10 Andy Neate (DNPQ)
1m 31.023s
11 Tom Ferrier (DNPQ)
1m 34.043s
12 Dan Eaves (DNPQ)
No Time

Aggregate:
1 Eurotech    3m 09.111s
2 AmD Tuning    3m 09.433s
3 BTC Racing    3m 11.391s (DNPQ)
4 Tech-Speed    3m 12.072s (DNPQ)
5 Boulevard   3m 20.722s (DNPQ)
NC AFM Racing   N/A      (DNPQ)

There was a new look to the pre-qualifying results at Rockingham, not just due to the return of BTC Racing with ex-Maxtreme BMWs and the debut of AmD Tuning with ex-Tech-Speed Alfas. This time, after embarrsingly propping up the times at Thruxton, Eurotech topped the session, with AmD joining them in qualifying for the main session, and BTC unlucky to miss out due to a lacklustre performance from John George offsetting Stephen Kane's impressive effort. Thruxton qualifiers Boulevard and AFM were way off the pace however, the latter not even setting an aggregate time due to issues for Dan Eaves.

DNQ:
27 Tony Gilham
28 Martin Depper

Yvan Muller took his first BTCC pole since Knockhill 2005 for race 1, with old rival Jason Plato alongside him.
Championship leader Norbert Michelisz, however was nowhere near them, down in 12th, around fellow underperformers Giovanardi and Chilton. Both AmD cars qualified for their first ever race, lining up 18th and 19th, while at the very back, Tony Gilham and Martin Depper failed to qualify.

This race was a rather processional affair, much like last year's a petrol Seat (this one being driven by Jordi Gene) won dominantly albeit having to get past Jason Plato early one, also setting fastest lap in the process. Besides these first couple of places, there was very little change in positions in the field, the only real movers being the CVR cars, who both lost eight places over the course of the race, mostly on the long straights. With a fourth placed finish, Colin Turkington showed that the Honda Accord was being developing very quickly, something that must be a concern to rivals, while AmD must be happy with a double finish, albeit some way from their qualifying positions.

Alain Menu put himself on pole for the second time this year, with Michelisz seemingly much more dialled into his car than in Quali-1, as he joined him on the front row, with the CVR cars and Turkington's Honda completing the top 5. This time it was the poor performance of the Arena Fords that was getting attention; Coronel was outside the top 20, and Collard joined Depper in failing to qualify, a performance that was frankly embarrassing for a 2009 race winner.

Initially the Seat of Michelisz got the best start off the line, but by the second corner, Colin Turkington had scythed his way to the front of the race, and began to pull away from the Maxtreme driver in second, and consistently setting ; it seemed as if the Special Tuning outfit had managed to find race-winning form in their LPG-powered cars, which would also be a first for this fuel type. Unfortunately, luck was still not on their side; Turkington had to pit with mechanical issues on lap 16, rejoining in ninth and only recovering to sixth before being nerfed off the track by Muller, who had spun earlier in the race causing Thompson to do the same in avoiding him, retiring when his engine wouldn't restart. Another notable performance in the race was by Jonathan Adam, who dragged his otherwise off the pace Vectra from 8th onto the podium over the course of the race, while Giovanardi again failed to score. Chilton finished seventh, and was hence on pole for Race 3.

              ³       WSR - BMW                                  ³

Chilton led initially, but was passed early on by Michelisz, who gave the spectators deja vu by pulling away into the distance ahead of Menu again, while Chilton's engine decided to revert to its Thruxton form and expire in a cloud of smoke. Colin Turkington at least partially made up for the previous race's disappointment by scoring Special Tuning's first podium and second fastest lap in a row, while lower down the field there was an entertaining battle for what became 10th place (after Chilton's retirement) between James Nash, Nick Foster and both AmD Tuning cars, which found much better form, ultimately finishing 12th and 13th. Last across the line however was Gordon Shedden, who had to recover from an earlier spin out of a points position.

Championship Standings After Rounds 1-6:

Driver's Championship
1 Norbert Michelisz 73
2 Alain Menu 56
3 Jordi Gene 51
4 Colin Turkington 32
5 Jonathan Adam 30
6 Jason Plato 29
8 Augusto Farfus 25
9 Tom Chilton 23
=9 James Thompson 23
11 Gordon Shedden 20
12 Rob Collard 12
13 Yvan Muller 11
14 Andrew Jordan 9
15 Tom Coronel 8
16 Jeff Smith 6
17 Chris James 2
18 Mat Jackson 1
=18 Nick Foster 1

Norbert Michelisz maintains his advantage over a resurgent Alain Menu in the driver's championship, with Jordi Gene jumping to third on account of his Race 1 win, and well ahead of Turkington in fourth.

Independent Driver's Championship
1 Norbert Michelisz 74
2 Jordi Gene 69
3 Gordon Shedden 46
4 Colin Turkington 44
5 Yvan Muller 36
6 Nick Foster 28
7 James Nash 19
8 Dave Pinkney 17
9 Mat Jackson 12
10 Alex MacDowell 8
=10 Gavin Smith 8
12 Andy Neate 7
13 Ben Collins 6
14 Chris James 5
15 Arthur Forster 5
16 Tom Ferrier 3
17 Dan Eaves 2
18 Tom Onslow-Cole 1

In the Independent's championship however, Michelisz's advantage is comparatively slim over fellow privateer Seat driver Jordi Gene, who for now at least are well ahead of the chasing pack. The AmD Tuning drivers are in tenth after their first race weekend, having scored identically.

Team's Championship
1 WSR 79
2 Maxtreme 73
3 GR Asia 52
4 Seat 38
5 Special Tuning 32
6 CVR 31
7 888 30
8 RML 29
9 Honda 25
10 Arena 20
11 Boulevard 2
12 Motorbase 1

WSR still leads the Team's Championship continuing an unbroken reign at the top of the table since Brands Hatch '09, although with a much reduced advantage over Maxtreme, despite the latter currently having only one points scorer, while RML drop five places to 8th after a quiet weekend.

Independent Team's Championship
1 GR Asia 97
2 Maxtreme 91
3 CVR 82
4 Special Tuning 49
5 Bamboo 25
6 AmD Tuning 16
7 Boulevard 12
=7 Motorbase 12
9 AFM 5
10 Eurotech 1

GR Asia now lead the independent teams, having scored more consistently than Maxtreme over the weekend, with CVR now within striking distance of the pair in third, and a long way ahead of fourth-placed Special Tuning. AmD and Eurotech also get their first points on the board, albeit only one for the latter, as they continue to struggle with their Volvos.

Constructor's Championship
1 WSR/BMW 101
2 Seat 76
3 888/Vauxhall 70
4 RML/Chevrolet 56
5 Honda 50
6 Arena/Ford 31
WSR have a 25 point lead over the still-winless Seat, with Honda Team Dynamics also climbing to fifth, meaning that they are not bottom of the constructor's table for the first time since this championships inception in 2009.

Sorry for the late results again (I've been very busy with exams) but feel free to upgrade cars and sack drivers (I might just do that, looking at O'Neill's pre-qualifying...) before Rounds 7-9 at Brands Hatch.

I really should have stuck with the old petrol Leons instead of the new BMWs... :glasses:

Any chance I could trade 'em in and get my old petrol Leons back? :deletraz:

There may be some problems with that idea, chief of which is that you won't be able to upgrade the Seats, so they won't be quite as competitive as the year goes on, but if you want you can swap back (you are still allowed to upgrade the BMWs in the meantime and swap back to them in a few rounds too as well)

With only 5cr to hand, there's not much upgrading to be done anyway, so let's go back to the Leons and see how it goes.

With the Brands Hatch rounds about to be run (by the end of the day, hopefully), here's the upgrade RNG results:

Arena Quali Pace
1-70 Success, 71-100 Fail
Result: 69- it was marginal, but Arena managed to eke out some more speed on qualifying runs to try and improve on what has been a dismal start for the de facto Ford works team

BTC Quali Pace
1-70 Success, 71-100 Fail
Result: 65, meaning BTC will have an improved car in their quest to qualify for a BTCC race for the first time in a year

In other news, from this round onwards, I will implement an exciting new feature to increase realism and spice up the action; Realistic Weather. This means that at any race that was recorded as a mostly wet weekend in the real life 2010 season will be run in wet conditions, using the GP2WET addon; Brands Hatch GP (there's a typo on the start page, which says it's on the Indy Circuit; sorry) will be one such weekend.

Good thing GP2 immediately broke after pre-qualifying then, meaning I haven't run any races; here are your RNGs:

Special Tuning Race Pace:
1-70 Success, 71-100 Fail
Result: 24, meaning the Accords will continue to have ever-increasing competitiveness this year
Special Tuning Reliability
1-70 Success, 71-100 Fail
Result: 70- it took some serious effort, but the durability or the new cars has been improved in equal measure.

Because of the delays (furthered by the fact I have to fix the same fuel issues I had at Rockingham last year) and the fact I will have no access to the computer from which I am running the races for the next five days, the race results will be published by Thursday at the earliest- sorry for any inconvenience/disappointment caused.

Wee bit of a bump, so sorry about that, but if Forster Motorsport are still free can I run them into the ground? :P If not, no worries, I'm happy to sit on the waiting list.

Sure- you can place your bids, and will be running at Oulton Park if they are supplied within the next week or so.

Motorbase would like to purchase three upgrades in a vain attempt to fix our dreadful start:

2x Race Pace
1x Quali Pace

Thanks!

Re: 2010 Virtual BTCC- Rockingham Up! - 1 team available

Post by This Could Be You »

Ok- these upgrades will be added before Oulton Park as I am about to run Brands after numerous technical issues and a short holiday prevented it from running from Monday through Thursday

UPDATE: Even after a day's troubleshooting, I stilll can't get the cars to run more than 11 laps due to Magic Data problems. It will need more fettling, which unfortunately will now have to be done tomorrow...

I know these are very late (and I ultimately had to abandon the wet weather setup; I may try again later), but here are the results for Brands Hatch;

Pre-Qualifying:

Code: Select all

1 Matt Neal
1m 28.274s
2 Stephen Kane
1m 28.372s
3 Alex MacDowell
1m 28.521s  (DNPQ)
4 Paul O'Neill
1m 28.555s
5 John George
1m 28.617s
6 Gavin Smith
1m 28.755s  (DNPQ)
7 Andy Neate
1m 29.218s  (DNPQ)
8 Chris James
1m 29.284s  (DNPQ)
9 Tom Ferrier
1m 29.476s  (DNPQ)
10 Dan Eaves
1m 29.746s  (DNPQ)
12 Martin Depper
1m 30.678s  (DNPQ)
13 Tom Onslow-Cole
1m 34.694s  (DNPQ)

Aggregate:
1. Tech-Speed 2m 56.829s
2. BTC Racing 2m 56.989s
3. AmD Tuning 2m 57.276s (DNPQ)
4. Boulevard  2m 58.502s (DNPQ)
5. Afm Racing 2m 59.222s (DNPQ)
6. Eurotech   3m 05.372s (DNPQ)

For the third race in succession two different teams filled the top two places in pre-qualifying; Paul O'Neill finally got the hang of the Peugeot 407 meaning Tech-Speed topped the session, while BTC Racing's upgrades paid off, as made it out of pre-qualifying for the first time in a year, beating AmD by three tenths of second, who themselves were way ahead of all the other teams.

Tom Chilton qualified on pole for race 1, joined on the front row by a much happier Yvan Muller, who appeared to suit the '09-spec Leon much better than the BMW. Strangely, this was not true of his teammate, who somehow only managed 23rd in a car that he finished last year second in. Both Tech-Speed and BTC Racing cars made it onto the grid for the first time this year, with Kane particularly notable for his fantastic effort to line up 11th. Meanwhile, at the very back Arthur Forster and Tony Gilham failed to qualify their Hondas.

This was a relatively quiet race at the front, with most moves coming when drivers were forced to pit, often ruining their chances for points. Ultimately it was Menu who recorded another victory in lieu of his teammate, while Muller finished a strong second, while down the other points finishers benefiting from the pitstops being Andrew Jordan and Paul O'Neill, the latter scoring Tech-Speed's first points this year in 8th. Less fortunate was his teammate, Matt Neal, who spun and speared into the path of John George's BMW damaging both cars and necessitating lengthy repairs for the latter. Meanwhile, further down the field, Colin Turkington set fastest lap.

It was the same front row for Race 2, and for that matter the same two cars on the second row as well, though this time with Plato ahead of Menu. Gordon Shedden made a massive improvement between sessions to start ninth, while Coronel coaxed the Focus into the top 10 times. Forster and Gilham were no closer to qualifying their cars however.

Yvan Muller won his first BTCC race since 2005 with an uneventful lights-to-flag victory, at the head of an all-Seat podium, while the WSR BMWs faded. Shedden scored another ninth to adds to his points tally, while Turkington recoved to sixth. Jonathan Adam, while disappointing in his drop to tenth, got the most power for the reverse grid qualifying. James Thompson set fastest lap.

Alain Menu scored yet another win ahead of polesitter Adam, who just couldn't eke out enough pace from the Vectra to hold on , yet set fastest lap and defended well from Turkington, who acheived a podium to end a disappointing weekend on a high. Going the opposite way was Paul O'Neill, who after scoring points in Race 1 suffered the ignominy of his engine expiring after a single competitive lap, in an all to common sight for the Peugeot 407.

Standings after Rounds 1-9:

Driver's Championship
1 Norbert Michelisz 95
2 Alain Menu 94
3 Jordi Gene 65
4 Jonathan Adam 52
5 Colin Turkington 48
6 Jason Plato 47
7 Yvan Muller 43
8 Tom Chilton 39
9 Augusto Farfus 37
10 Gordon Shedden 25
11 James Thompson 24
12 Rob Collard 12
14 Andrew Jordan 10
15 Tom Coronel 8
16 Jeff Smith 6
17 Nick Foster 5
18 Paul O'Neill 3
19 Chris James 2
20 Mat Jackson 1

Michelisz holds on to his championship lead leaving Brands, but only by one point from Alain Menu, while both are nearly thirty points ahead of third placed Gene.

Independent Driver's Championship
1 Norbert Michelisz 108
2 Jordi Gene 93
3 Yvan Muller 76
4 Colin Turkington 70
5 Gordon Shedden 64
6 Nick Foster 45
7 Dave Pinkney 24
8 James Nash 21
9 Mat Jackson 12
10 Stephen Kane 12
11 Paul O'Neill 9
12 Alex MacDowell 8
=12 Gavin Smith 8
14 Ben Collins 8
15 Andy Neate 7
16 Matt Neal 7
17 Chris James 5
18 Arthur Forster 5
19 Tom Ferrier 3
20 Dan Eaves 2
21 Tom Onslow-Cole 1

Michelisz also continues to lead the Independent standings by 15 points from Jordi Gene, although more worrying for the Hungarian must be Muller's rapid progression from 6th to 3rd in the standings.

Team's Championship
1 WSR 133
2 Maxtreme 95
3 GR Asia 70
4 CVR 68
5 Seat 57
6 888 52
7 Special Tuning 48
8 Honda 37
9 RML 30
10 Arena 20
11 Tech-Speed 3
12 Boulevard 2
13 Motorbase 1

WSR now have a more solid lead over Maxtreme, while Clyde Valley Racing move up to fourth at the expense of Seat and 888.

Independent Team's Championship
1 CVR 140
2 GR Asia 138
3 Maxtreme 108
4 Special Tuning 75
5 Bamboo 29
6 Tech-Speed 16
=6 AmD Tuning 16
8 Boulevard 12
=8 Motorbase 12
=8 BTC Racing 12
11 AFM 5
12 Eurotech 1

Further vindicating their decision to revert to last year's Seats, CVR have also shot to the top of the Independent team's championship, holding a slender two-point lead over GR Asia, while even at this stage, it seems as if only those two plus possibly Maxtreme or Special Tuning could even challenge for the title.

Constructor's Championship
1 WSR/BMW 198
2 Seat 116
3 888/Vauxhall 108
4 Honda 70
5 RML/Chevrolet 67
6 Arena/Ford 52
Even more one-sided is the Constructor's championship; WSR have run away with it so far, holding an 82-point lead over Seat, who have jumped Triple Eight for second. Honda's rapid progression (oh, the irony...) sees them up to fourth, while Arena is falling some way behind the other teams.

Again, apologies for being over a week late, but feel free to comment, upgrade cars or sack driver before the next round at Oulton Park; remember that after those races, the pre-qualifying list is recalculated, so points are vital for the teams lower down the order.

Furthermore, it would be helpful if takagi_for_the_win posted Forster's bids soon so I can get their resources ready.

Given that this season appears to be a write-off already, Forster will run the Toyota Corolla with stock engine, and offer Carl Breeze and James Kaye seats.
