Alt F1 1977: Final Prize Money, Season over!

1977 Wiki Page - http://formularejects.com/wiki/1977_Alternate_Formula_One_season

Jody Scheckter emerged on top for Ferrari after a tumultuous and tragic 1976 season, with Carlos Reutemann narrowly loosing out on the title, but helping McLaren to the Constructor's and Entrant's crowns. Scheckter returns to see out the second year in his contract, as does Reutemann, but who will emerge to challenge them? Will it be USAC convert Tom Sneva, the Gas Man, who demonstrated his ample speed and racecraft to take 2 victories? Will it be Patrick Depailler, who had huge boots to fill, yet filled them well to take the most pole positions of anybody? Mario Andretti, who was best of the rest? Or will it be journey Thomas Nurmester, debutant Patrick Tambay, or Ligier man Jacques Laffite?

Time will tell, but for now, the teams are hard at work in the off-season preparing for the new season. Stanley-BRM have withdrawn after an awful season, but will everyone return?

Rules

Budgets
- NEW: Budget spreadsheet is now in the first post, instead of the second.

Engines
- NEW: All teams must renew their engine supply.
- NEW: Renault are added. Their engine is only available to the factory team.
- NEW: Engine upgrades. An upgrade will appear for your engine at the specified events, for the specified price, but the exact contents are unknown.
- NEW: Any two teams are free to sign with Alfa Romeo
- NEW: Matra have capacity for an additional team alongside Ligier
- NEW: Older spec Cosworth engines are available for cheaper prices, but worse power and reliability.
- Ford Cosworth remain free to sign anybody.
- Ferrari will only supply the factory team.

Chassis
- NEW: Chassis generation table has been updated with 1977 ranges.
- NEW: Handling stat. Handling assigns a RGR (Random Grip Range) to your chassis. Working in multiples of 100, a Handling level 1 adds 100 RGR, and Level 10 adds 1000
- NEW: Chassis aging. Chassis age (loose performance) per year according to the given stats on the spreadsheet.
- NEW: Chassis manufacturers Lola and Automobiles Martini are looking for works partners. The upgrade direction of the chassis is NOT established by the team owner.
- NEW: A team may introduce a new chassis mid season, during slots 1 or 3 in exchange for an upgrade in that slot.
- NEW: Teams can sell custom chassis to collectors for 10% of it's build price. This does not apply for customer chassis of any description.
- Each team MUST build it's own chassis
- The cost of each chassis is for TWO chassis.

Travel Costs
- NEW: Al teams must pay some form of travel costs.
- NEW: Subsidised travel costs for all races is £200,000. There are 14 slots available, given in order of priority to the top 14 teams in the WEC.
-NEW: Teams who do not pay the subsidised costs must pay for travel to each event individually.
- Travel costs are listed on the spreadsheet.

NEW: Suppliers
- NEW: There are four types of supplier: Petroleum, Lubricant, Parts and Tyres. Each supplier brings benefits to the team.
- NEW: Each team M U S T sign a tyre supplier. All other suppliers are optional.
- NEW: Teams may choose ONE supplier from: Petoleum, Lubricant, and Parts.
- NEW: The amount of contracts available for a supplier is listed.
- NEW: The price listed is paid once to secure the supplier, and once to purchase the upgrade.
- NEW: Supplier upgrades come at random times, and an RNG will be run to determine the effectiveness of the upgrade.
- NEW: If more offers than number of contracts are received, an RNG will be run.
- NEW: Pay attention to the Brand Image.

Chassis Upgrades
- NEW: The upgrade system has been altered. Instead of being restricted to an upgrade tier, you are free to choose any upgrade you wish. The only caveat is you are limited to one upgrade per slot, and the upgrade in question must be available.
- NEW: Upgrade slots are now continous, rather than fixed. E.g. Slot one is now from Round 1-4, instead of after Round 4.
- NEW: There is now a Pre-Season upgrade slot.
- You may only choose one upgrade per slot.

NEW: Special Events
-NEW: Keep an eye on your forum PMs. Special events will appear at random throughout the season, and will be sent straight to your inbox.
-NEW: Special events are take them or leave them - if you fail to take up the offer, it disappears into thin air.
-NEW: Special events come with rules - disobey them at your peril.

Drivers
- NEW: If a driver is sacked, you must pay him one race's wages as a severance fee.
- Minimum wage for the season is £50,000 for paid drivers - That is £2,941 per race.
- An offer for a driver must at least match his asking price for the offer to be considered.
- All existing Loyalties will be considered, but the system is being phased out.
- A team MUST enter TWO drivers into each race weekend they enter in order to be eligible for both championship points and all prize money
- The maximum contract length is 2 years.
- Wages deemed to be grossly unfair (£50,000 for a championship winner, for instance) will be blocked.

Pay Drivers
- NEW: All young drivers start as pay drivers, until their success warrants a paid wage.
- NEW: A pay driver may be offered a paid wage to double your odds of securing them in the RNG. However, this transforms a driver from a pay to a normal driver for the rest of their careers.
- There are two tiers of pay driver - tiers 1 and 2. Tier 1 drivers will bring in between in between £125,000 and £200,000 to your team over the course of a season. Tier 2 drivers will bring in between £25,000 - £150,000.
- A RNG will be conducted once a driver receives an offer to see how much money they will bring for the season.
- If you wish to hire a pay driver for less than the full season (17 races), his/her money pot will be divided by 17, and then multiplied by the length of his/her contract.
- All pay drivers pay their money up front.
- If a pay driver is sacked, your forfeit the money they would have paid for the duration of their contract.
- For fictional pay drivers, a RNG of 50/50 will be run to determine whether they are Class 1 or Class 2.

Debt
- A team may not go into debt. Any team that cannot purchase a chassis (if applicable) or engine is declared bankrupt.
- I reserve the right to remove struggling teams from the game, if their presence is not historically accurate.

Injuries
- NEW: Drivers signed to replace injured drivers may be signed on the injured driver's terms, or may be signed to a new contract,
- NEW: You do not pay the wages of an injured driver. (This is covered by insurance)
- Injuries are decided by RNG.

Entries
- I reserve the right to refuse unrealistic/ill-thought out entries of any description.
- Each team can enter a maximum of TWO cars into every race weekend.
- There will be 26 starters for every Grand Prix. In the case of attracting more than 28 entries, a Pre-Qualifying session will be run, with the fastest teams on combined times going through to Qualifying.

Prize Money
After each race, prize money is to teams in the following fashion:
Point Scorers: £50,000
Top 10, but no points: £30,000
Top 15: £15,000
Below 15, finish: £10,000
DNF: £3,000
DNQ: £2,000
DNPQ: £1,000
DSQ: -£50,000

Prize money will also be awarded at the end of the season.

-Prize money is does not double. I.e. Two point scorers =/= £100,000

Points System
9-6-4-3-2-1, with all results counting towards the championship.

UPDATE: thanks for correcting the post, pasta

Hesketh confirms it's entry for 1977, although at this rate, we may not make it to 1978 (a shame, as I was hoping to at least get into the '80s before failing miserably).

Driver Signing and Travel Fees

Post by pasta_maldonado »

Driver Signing & Travel Fee

The driver market is now OPEN! The driver and pay driver lists are intended as a guide rather than a definitive list, but bear in mind the following contracts:

Ferrari: Jody Scheckter
Lotus: Mario Andretti
Brabham: James Hunt & Lella Lombardi
McLaren: Carlos Reutemann
Ensign: Gunnar Nilsson
Ligier: Jacques Laffite
Fittipaldi: Emerson Fittipaldi

As a result, Brabham do not need to sign drivers, and Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren, Ensign, Ligier and Fittipaldi need to sign only one driver. You are, of course, free to offer multiple drivers a contract for 1976, dividing their seat time.

In addition, you need to choose whether or not you will pay the subsidised travel fees. These cost £200,000 , and are open at first to the top 14 in last year's Entrant's Championship. Not paying for subsidised travel means you need to pay for travel individually.

Privateers do not need to sign drivers now, indeed, they can wait until nearer the time they plan to enter. The deadline for the first round of the driver RNG will close on Sunday, 11:59 PM GMT, or when the top 14 of the Entrant's championship post their plans - whichever comes sooner.

Please submit your plans below using the following form.

Lotus will sell their old chassis to collectors.

Is there any chance that privateers would be allowed to buy this old chassis instead?

Anyway, here's Mitsuoka's entry for 1977:

Seen as this situation has not cropped up before:

Driver Transfers
- NEW: A team (Team A) may NOT transfer / send out on loan a driver to another team (Team B).
- NEW: A team (Team A) may sell a contract to another (Team B)
- NEW: Team B must pay at least the sum of the driver's remaining wage.
- NEW: All contract buy-outs will be subjected to RNG.
- NEW: A transfer made against the interests of a driver may result in horrifically bad RNG odds.
- NEW: The option for the driver to quit his contract will be present in all RNG relating to contract buy-outs.

Hernandez and McLaren will be given the opportunity to confirm if they still wish to go ahead with the RNG.

La Gazzetta Dello Sport wrote:Reutemann in shock switch to Ferrari?

After the shock announcement of McLaren attempting to send Carlos Reutemann to the privateer Hernandez team for the Argentine's home GP, against the wishes of the 1976 runner-up, news has emerged from Italy that the prancing horse is courting him to partner Jody Scheckter.

With certain factions within the Italian team's management trying to install a more level-headed alternative to Patrick Depailler in the second seat, senior figures at parent company Fiat are rumoured to have made contact with Reutemann about a shock defection to Ferrari, going above the head of team principal Luca di Montezemolo.

The current McLaren lead driver, who was beaten to the title by current Ferrari driver Scheckter, is reportedly livid with the publicly announced news he would be replaced for the Argentine GP and offered a ride at Escuderia Hernandez in his place. With the Argentine's future at the British team now in doubt, other teams have been scrambling to capitalise on the consequent uncertainty caused by the news.

When asked for comment, a Ferrari spokesperson refused to comment on the speculation, instead reaffirming their current position of renewing their partnership with the incumbent Depailler.

"Scuderia Ferrari is working on agreeing a deal with its current second driver, Patrick Depailler. The media will be updated when the outcome of these negotiations are concluded. We have no other comment to make at this time."

After the rule changes made with the sole purpose of hurting our chances, McLaren will not go ahead with the deal and has updated their driver offers.

Based in Reading, North Star has been racing since the early 1960's.

North Star used to participate in the BTSCC, joining in 1961. 1961-1965 were decent years for the team, finishing in 15,13,11, 12, and in 1965, 7th. In 1966, North Star came second, with one of their drivers coming first in the Driver's Championship. From 1966 till now however, North Star have taken a break from Touring Cars, citing no interest.

North Star also has success in F2, just recently winning the title in 1976. Joining in 1967, the team was a midfield contender for its first few seasons. In 1973, North Star switched to Renault powered engines and had multiple great seasons after that, posting a 2nd, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and in 1976, got their first ever World Championship.

North Star aims to finish in the Top 15 as a team. Sir Blake Clayton, current Team Owner and Founder, has high expectations for the team.
"I really think this team has what it takes to be a top contender. However, in the first few seasons we hope to get used to the new more powerful engines and the new rule changes from F2. After that we can focus on becoming better and climbing the grid."
