Boris Said enjoys competing twice a year in NASCAR for the road courses, but would he consider a full switch to full-time NASCAR competition? He was the Trans-Am champ back in 2002, and feels confident about landing a very competitive GT ride in Grand-Am.

1-15 Considers the offer... for the right price.
16-100 Declines
96!

Thanks but no thanks, Boris will stick to the road courses only for now.

So what do I offer him to do just the road courses?

At least $50k, as per the driver tab on the spreadsheet.

NASCAR is not sufficiently impressed with the records of Anthony Swan or Oli Playle to allow them entries in the Cup series.

Any, ASCAR drivers that do have sufficient records or am I going to get nowhere with this British route? I noticed even Colin White, a race winner and regular front runner got rejected. How about Ian McKellar Jr. or Stevie Hodgson?

Pretty much. Jumping from Late Models, such as what is driven in ASCAR, straight to a Cup car is a huge leap in performance and general ability, being outperformed by even the regional K&N Pro Series East and West cars. Realistically, unless you fund someone for a few years at the Busch or Truck level, I wouldn't expect a worthwhile level of performance from anybody who ever competed in ASCAR, save maybe Ben Collins or Jason Plato.

Okay final attempt before I give up on this route. How about Michael Vergers? After he pissed away the 2001 championship by pitting too late in the final race, he did some ARCA races the following year and was competitive. In theory he should be competent in a Cup car on short tracks? He's certainly more qualified than Plato who never came close to winning a race in ASCAR and only finished as high in the championship as he did due to the finicky points system they had.

Re: Alt NASCAR 2004 - Driver Bids open!

Post by Salamander »

Okay, let's sort out these drivers then!

----------

KURT BUSCH
Despite being beaten to 10th in the championship last year by Terry Labonte, Kurt Busch has attracted a lot of attention - 5 teams are prioritising him first. Penske want him to lead the new 00 team, with a $4 million contract for 2 years, with additional bonuses for finishing in the top 5 in points and a potential contract extension. Current employers Roush have a $3.5 million contract on the table for 2 years, with Bill Davis Racing offering $4 million for 1 year. The Wood Brothers have stuck in a bid of $3 million for 1 year, as have Evernham Motorsports.

Busch is still hungry for race wins and championship fights, so his eyes are drawn foremost to the Penske, Roush, and Evernham contracts, as these teams all won last year.

1-45 Penske #00
46-70 Roush #97
71-85 Evernham #9
86-95 Bill Davis #22
96-100 Wood Brothers #21

7!
Kurt Busch will move to Penske to lead the new #00 team.

----------

RYAN NEWMAN
Rocketman Ryan Newman, the 2002 Rookie of the Year, won 8 races for Penske last year, but this was apparently not enough for The Captain to want to resign him. Bill Davis scrambled in a last minute bid for Newman to be their second choice to take over the #22. Davis has been making some good noise in the off-season, so it may be a good destination, does Newman accept or hold out for a little longer?

1-80 Bill Davis #22
90-100 Waits
48!
Ryan Newman will lead Bill Davis Racing's efforts in the #22 for 2004.

----------

KASEY KAHNE
Washington's Kasey Kahne has spent the past two seasons in the Busch series as a development driver for Robert Yates Racing. Only 23, he is yet to make his Cup Series debut, and scored only a single win and 4 top 5s in his 54 Busch Series starts, that win coming in the 2003 season finale at Homestead. He has an offer to take over the #12 car at Penske, with a guaranteed $1 million for winning Rookie of the Year, as well as a slightly more lucrative offer to lead Haas' efforts in the #0, with his own puppy! However, by far the most interesting offer is the one from his current employer to step up to the #38 car for 2.5 times the next highest contract offer.

1-5 Penske #12
6-10 Haas #0
11-100 Robert Yates #38
70!

Kahne will take the promotion to the Cup series for 2004, driving the #38 car for Robert Yates.

----------

CARL EDWARDS
After winning 3 races in his debut Truck season for Roush in 2003, Crazy Cousin Carl Edwards from Missouri has received 3 offers to move to the Cup series for 2004. The first comes from Penske, who after being rebuffed by Kahne, offer the same contract to Edwards. The next, a long-term 5-year deal from Richard Childress Racing for $1 million a year, with many bonuses. The other, offering the same money as the Childress contract, but for 2 years, comes from his current employers, Roush Racing.

1-10 Penske #12
11-40 Childress #31
41-100 Roush #99
11!

Edwards is poached by Richard Childress and will take over driving duties of the #31 machine for 2004.

----------

KYLE BUSCH
Younger brother of Kurt Busch, Kyle made headlines back in 2001 when Jack Roush ran him in a few Truck races at the age of 16. This led NASCAR to institute a restriction on drivers under the age of 18 competing in a National-level series (i.e., Cup, Busch, or Truck). Now 18, and having lost none of his promise, he has two offers to move to the Cup Series - although neither come from his current employers at Hendrick Motorsports. Penske is offering the same contract it offered to Kahne and Edwards, while the Wood Brothers are offering a 1 year deal for $700k, but with no options for a contract extension. He is third in the queue for that offer, though.

1-40 Penske #12
41-60 Wood Brothers #21
61-100 Sticks with Hendrick in the Busch series
71!
Kyle Busch feels he wants to stay in the Busch series for another season before feeling completely ready to move to Cup.

----------

BRENDAN GAUGHAN
Las Vegas' other driver besides the Busch brothers, Brendan Gaughan was for many the moral winner of the Truck championship in 2003, after being taken out by a rival team's driver. With 6 wins under his belt, Gaughan attracted the attention of Penske, for whom Gaughan is their last choice for the #12, getting the same contract that Kahne, Edwards, and Kyle Busch received. With no other offers, Gaughan sees no point in rejecting an offer from such a successful team and joins Penske for 2004.

----------

More RNGs will be run later tonight.

And now for some more delicious RNG!

----------

SARAH FISHER
After a 4-year stint in IndyCar, with the odd good result, it would seem that Fisher's career has come to a close, with full-time ride offers drying up, and her only involvement being an Indy 500 entry with Kelley Racing. However, a couple of NASCAR teams have come knocking - the first being SCORE Motorsports. Fisher isn't that impressed with the team, but a ride's a ride at the end of the day, and she never had particularly good cars while in IndyCar, so she won't dismiss it out of hand. The second comes from a very established team in Dale Earnhardt, Inc., as the second choice for the #15 team. Fisher will be bringing a small amount of funding, which could prove quite useful for SCORE.

1-15 SCORE #02
16-100 DEI #15
77!
Sarah Fisher will hope that she gets called up to drive the #15 car.

----------

JIMMIE JOHNSON
Jeff Gordon's protege has very much proved his worth after being a title contender in the last 2 years, winning 3 races both years. 2004 could quite prove a breakthrough year for Jimmie Johnson, and so has 3 offers. The first, for Richard Childress Racing, where he would supplant Kevin Harvick as the team' most highly-paid driver, with another long term contract and many bonuses. Hendrick is offering a single-year deal for slightly less money than what Childress has put on the table, with Roush offering a fairly uninteresting deal for 2 years.

1-40 Richard Childress #30
41-50 Roush #97
51-100 Hendrick #48
2!
Jimmie Johnson makes a surprise exit from Hendrick Motorsports and joins Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards at Richard Childress Racing, driving the #30.

----------

DALE JARRETT
The 1999 champ had a difficult year last year, but there are still some who rate Jarrett's ability quite highly as he approaches the twilight of his career. He was the second choice for the #30 Childress car, but as that has dried up, his only current offer is to stay with Yates, which he was happy to do anyway, with a generous offer. Jarrett accepts the contract with no hesitation.

----------

BRIAN VICKERS
The reigning Busch series champ, 19-year-old Vickers is now looking to take the next logical step and move to the Cup series for 2004. He had an interesting offer from Childress, though that has now dried up - however, Hendrick Motorsports, for whom he won the Busch title with last year, have offered a 1 year deal at $800k. Vickers sees no reason to decline, especially considering his friendship with Rick Hendrick's son, Ricky.

----------

ROBBY GORDON
After sweeping the road courses for Richard Childress last year, Robby Gordon finds himself out of a drive with his seat going to rookie Carl Edwards. However, Evernham Motorsports have offered a $3 million contract to run for them in 2004. It's a good offer, but maybe he will be more satisfied looking to put together his own team?

1-80 Evenham #19
81-100 Looks into driving for himself
69!
Robby Gordon will drive the #19 car for Evernham in 2004.

----------

PAUL TRACY
The reigning CART champion, Paul Tracy has attracted an offer from Richard Childress Racing to compete part-time for the team. He was originally contacted by them in 2001 to replace the late Dale Earnhardt, however, now he has the CART championship under his belt. The CART championship is also not looking particularly healthy at present, so a potential move to NASCAR may indeed be prudent. Tracy will be extremely well paid for his time, receiving $2 million just for running a third of the schedule, so will happily take the money, and will sort out the schedule details with Childress at a later date.

----------

ELLIOTT SADLER
The last driver to win for the Wood Brothers, Sadler has had difficulty breaking into the top echelons of the sport. A move to Robert Yates' team last year did not pan out, and now the Virginian is looking for a new team. He has two good offers for good teams - Joe Gibbs is looking for him to lead the new #11 team, while Evernham wants him to replace the retiring Bill Elliott. Gibbs offers a 2 year contract to Evernham's 1, but Evernham offers an extra $1 million. Gibbs should be a more competitive team, though.

1-60 Joe Gibbs #11
61-100 Evernham #9
6!
Elliott Sadler moves to the new Gibbs #11.

----------

JAMIE MCMURRAY
Hot off winning rookie of the year, Jamie McMurray is eager to continue building his name as a star of the future, after memorably winning his first race in his second Cup start while subbing for the injured Sterling Marlin. He has one offer from Chip Ganassi Racing, which is downsizing and apparently looking to him to lead the team. McMurray is happy to oblige and will accept the challenge.

----------

Sorry, no can do. This is why it's a good idea to have multiple driver bids for each car.

It's that time again!

----------

RON HORNADAY JR
2-time Truck champ Ron Hornaday Jr made an attempt at switching to Cup back in 2001 for AJ Foyt's team, but struggled mightily to make an impact, prompting a step down to Busch-series competition. After being a title contender all the way to the season finale, Hornaday feels now perhaps could be his best shot at carving out a Cup career, especially considering he's already in his mid-40s. Hornaday has one offer from Jasper, who should hopefully be a little bit more competent than Foyt was the last time he tried to contest Cup full-time... but would he be better off sticking in Busch for his longtime-employer Richard Childress? There's no guarantee another team will come knocking now, and chances of promotion within RCR are slim to none.

1-80 Jasper #77
81-100 Stays with Childress in Busch
85!
Hornaday feels he just isn't cut out for Cup competition yet, and stays in Childress' Busch series car.

----------

DERRIKE COPE
The 1990 Daytona 500 winner, Derrike Cope has had a long, if not particularly successful, Cup career. Nonetheless, he is still interested in Cup-series competition after competing in half the season last year, and is ready to bring some sponsorship to help out whoever chooses him to drive for them. At the moment, he has only one offer, from part-time start-ups Front Row Motorsports. The offer will allow him to focus on a full-time Busch series drive he's looking to secure, and Cope has a good feeling from the team leadership, but is surprised they are the only team that has gotten in contact with him yet.

1-60 Front Row #34
61-100 Waits to see if he can get more offers
35!
Derrike Cope agrees to be Front Row's lead driver in 2004 for 9 races. He will bring $200k to augment their budget.

----------

KENNY WALLACE
After a decade of trying to establish himself in Cup, Kenny Wallace's Cup career seems to be on its last legs. He still counts Stacker 2 as a benefactor to his career, but his options are currently limited to the #54 BelCar machine, which itself appears to be on it's last legs, or a step down to his old stomping grounds in the Busch series with last year's employer Bill Davis. He could always hold out for a better deal however, seeing that better rides are going without a driver for now. He is a little touched by Travis Carter's offer of a complimentary pen, though.

1-40 BelCar #54
41-100 Waits for more offers
16!
Kenny Wallace decides not to chance things and hopes he can revive both Travis Carter's team and his career in one fell swoop. BelCar will receive $900k if they decide to compete the full season, $300k if they decide to contest a part-time schedule.

----------

CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI
Former Formula 1 and CART driver Christian Fittipaldi is looking to continue his switch to NASCAR competition, after competing a half-season schedule for Petty Enterprises last year. He has an offer from Front Row for 3 races, however le Haas and DEI are looking to him as a backup choice for the #0 and #1, respectively. With those offers on the table, he feels in-demand to the point he can safely ignore the Front Row offer for now. Haas offers the better contract, but DEI should have the better car, which could help Fittipaldi find his footing much better.

1-40 Haas #0
41-100 DEI #1
93!
Christian Fittipaldi will await the outcome of DEI's negotiations for the #1 car.

----------

BORIS SAID
Possibly NASCAR's most famous road course warrior, Boris Said has competed at the Cup series' road courses for 5 years now and is looking forward to doing the same this year. He has 3 offers - one from Front Row for the Brickyard 400 in addition to the two road course events for $50k. Ultra offers double that, while MB2 has split the middle of the two offers. MB2 should be the more competitive team, and Said has fond memories of scoring pole in the #01 car for them last year, however.

1-15 Front Row #34
16-35 Ultra #7
36-100 MB2 #01
39!
Said considers the offers on the table, but decides to return to MB2 for another shot at winning a Cup road course event. (As the lowest denomination I'm gonna go is $10k, Said's contract will be $70k).

----------

GREG BIFFLE
After winning a race in his rookie year last year, Greg Biffle is looking forward to continuing driving for Jack Roush, after climbing the ranks through Truck and Busch series competition. The contract on the table is a 3 year deal for $1.4 million, which suits Biffle just fine as he looks to consolidate his position as a future star in the Cup series. He will drive the #16 car.

----------

MIKE BLISS
The 2002 Truck champion, Bliss had an abortive attempt at a Cup-series career back in 2000, but after a satisfactory season running for Joe Gibbs in the Busch series, has received an offer from Gene Haas' squad to be their new lead driver. He still hasn't won in the Busch series though, and so wonders if it still might be too soon to jump to Cup. The offer of host his own game show sounds pretty interesting though, he's got to admit

1-50 Haas #0
51-55 Wants details on the game show
56-100 Sticks with Gibbs in Busch for another year
84!
Bliss decides to stick in the Busch series for another year.

More RNG will be run this afternoon.

Time for some more RNG

----------

JOE NEMECHEK
Thrice a Cup series winner, Joe Nemechek has had something of a journeyman career in the Cup series, and looks set to move teams again after failing to elicit a contract renewal at Hendrick Motorsports. Two teams have come knocking on Nemechek's door: PPI, and MB2. PPI offer $1 million, but offer a guaranteed renewal if Nemechek wins a race or achieves "multiple podiums", which is not a common phrase in NASCAR but Nemechek gets the gist of it. Meanwhile, MB2 offer a bonus $500k on top of what PPI offers, but no aspects for contract renewal.

1-45 PPI #32
46-100 MB2 #01
85!
Joe Nemechek follows his real-life path to MB2, and will drive the #01 car in 2004.

----------

MICHAEL WALTRIP
Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip finds himself out of DEI after putting in arguably his best-ever season - although he wound up a distant 15th in points, he was solidly in the top 5 in points until the two-thirds mark of the season. He feels a bit miffed over this, especially as the only team offering him a drive is Bill Davis Racing, for their second car. It's not the worst fate in the world, especially as they are offering a bonus for winning a third Daytona 500, and Davis may be on the verge of turning a corner... but perhaps more offers will come if he waits a little longer? I mean, he has a boatload of sponsorship money...

1-40 Bill Davis #23
41-100 Waits
55!
Michael Waltrip still feels he has a place among the leading teams and will wait to see if any more offers come his way.

----------

RON FELLOWS
Another long-time road course warrior, Ron Fellows has shown his prowess multiple times in the past, but elicited only a single offer from Bill Davis Racing. It's a 2-year contract, though, they're a Chevy team, and he gets to double his earnings if he wins. It's a very tempting contract.

1-80 Bill Davis #23
81-100 Waits for more offers
79!
Ron Fellows will contest the road courses for Bill Davis for the next two years in the #23 car.

----------

RICKY CRAVEN
Despite winning both of PPI's victories to date, the team has not seen fit to retain Ricky Craven. Once a promising young driver, injuries have seen Craven's career take a less successful path than some may have predicted, but he still has believers within the garage. Bill Davis is looking to him as a backup in case Michael Waltrip rejects their offer, Petty Enterprises want him in the legendary #43, while James Finch's Phoenix Racing wants him in the #09. Petty offers slightly more cash and a 2-year deal, which sounds peachy to Craven.

1-35 Bill Davis #23
36-90 Petty #43
91-100 Phoenix #09
23!
Ricky Craven believes Bill Davis is on the verge of a turnaround after struggling for the past two years, and would like to run in the #23, should their approach to Michael Waltrip not pan out.

----------

JIMMY SPENCER
Mr. Excitement's Cup career seems to be coming to a close, but Jimmy Spencer isn't ready to hang up the helmet just yet. He has an offer coming in from Morgan-McClure to drive the #4 car for a standard $500k for one year. Spencer isn't feeling too picky at this stage, and if nothing else, the opportunity to get in Kurt Busch's way when he's about to be lapped should be worth it.

1-85 Morgan-McClure #4
86-100 Waits
25!
Jimmy Spencer switches to Morgan-McClure for 2004.

----------

BOBBY HAMILTON
4-times a Cup race winner, Bobby Hamilton moved from full-time Cup competition to focus on running his own Truck series team in 2003, and after winning a couple races last year, is looking forward to fighting for the Truck series title in 2004. He wasn't considering any form of comeback in the Cup series, but Andy Petree called up out of the blue and asked if he'd be interested in making a Cup series comeback. Hamilton has no interest in going back full-time, wanting to focus on his Truck career, but he might consider a part-time deal.

1-25 Would accept a part-time schedule with Petree
26-100 Focuses on his Truck series team
76!
Bobby Hamilton says thanks, but no thanks, he's done with the Cup series now.

---------

The King is disappointed at you, Ricky Craven. One does not simply turn down an offer to drive the #43.
The offer is off the table should Waltrip sign for the #23 after all.

As we failed to get Nemechek, PPI will revise it's driver plans:

Option 1:
Car: 32
Driver: Michael Waltrip (Money please)
Contract Length: 1 year
Add. Info: Contract extension to two years if a win/ at least 15 top 10s achieved

Option 2 (if Waltrip not signed):
Car: 32
Driver: Ricky Craven
Contract Length: 1 year
Add. Info: Same contract extension terms as offered to Waltrip, plus an (somewhat awkward) apology for not offering an instant renewal.

If Waltrip is signed (and his funding being over $500K), PPI would like to revert to our original plan of running 2003 ASCAR champ Ben Collins in a part-time #64 car, albeit with a revised schedule:

Car:64
Driver: Ben Collins ($50K)
Contract Length: Road courses, Rounds 24-28, 30-32, 34-36
Add. Info: Only applicable if Waltrip signed and funding conditions above are met.

Re: Alt NASCAR 2004 - Driver Bids open!

Post by Salamander »

Those bids will be taken into account for the second round of bidding. For now, let's run another batch of drivers.

----------

MAX PAPIS
A CART star back in the late 90s, early 2000s, Papis has recently signed a deal with Chip Ganassi to run Daytona Prototypes in Grand-Am. Ganassi has also extended an offer for Papis to run the road courses in their new #13 car. He also received an offer from Andy Petree, but since there wasn't any offer of money involved he took no further notice. Since there's no clashes between Grand-Am and the road courses, Papis is more than happy to give NASCAR a shot, and accepts the offer to drive the #13.

-----------

RICKY RUDD
NASCAR's Iron Man, Ricky Rudd's very long competitive career seems to be drawing to a close. After a mediocre year with the Wood Brothers, Rudd's only offer at the moment is to remain with the #21. He has no real qualms about doing so, but if he waits a bit longer he might just get that one last shot in the limelight.

1-80 Wood Brothers #21
81-100 Waits
13!
Rudd sticks with the Wood Brothers, determined to try and drag them back into relevance.

----------

JOHNNY SAUTER
Johnny Sauter helped Richard Childress capture the Busch series owner's championship in 2003 in a split schedule with Kevin Harvick, in one of the biggest "who cares" moments in the sport's history. He had a fairly decent run overall that year, enough that Petty has offered him a 2 year deal to run the legendary #43. Sauter is fairly confident this is going to be his best shot, especially what with Richard Childress Racing full to the brim with long-term contracts.

1-90 Petty #43
91-100 Waits
25!
Johnny Sauter will make his Cup series debut at the wheel of the Petty #43.

----------

LARRY FOYT
AJ Foyt's adopted son Larry made his full time debut for Foyt in 2003, and has been offered an extension into 2004. He's more than happy to keep going, and so will continue driving the #14 in 2004.

----------

BOBBY LABONTE
The 2000 Cup Series champion, Texas' Bobby Labonte still feels on top of his game after winning twice and mostly matching his defending champion teammate. Joe Gibbs agrees, which is why he's offered a 2-year extension at $5 million. Labonte is satisfied and resigns without any fuss to continue driving the #18.

Let's keep the RNG train rolling.

----------

SHAWNA ROBINSON
Shawna Robinson's first career occurred in the early-to-mid 90s, and after taking time off to raise a family, she has returned to her racing career in the 2000s. She has received two offers mostly out of the blue after a pretty quiet 2003 on her end - Joe Gibbs is offering a paid role in their part-time #80 car, while DEI is asking her to find some cash to run in the #15, as one of their backup options. She doesn't feel particularly ready to step up to full-time Cup series competition, but also realises this is probably going to be the best shot she'll ever get.

1-30 Gibbs #80
31-100 DEI #15
20!

Shawna Robinson will cautiously dip her toe into the deep end of Cup competition, and accept the Gibbs part-time deal to run in the #80. She would like to inquire about a Busch series deal to go along with this to help her get fully to grips with NASCAR again.

----------

RANDY LAJOIE
A 2-time Busch series champ back in 96 and 97, Lajoie made an ill-fated attempt at going to Cup full time back in 1995, but thereafter focused on building a Busch series career. He was relased from his ride mid-season, and so is starting to think about calling time on his career - but he's not quite ready to throw in the towel just yet. He has one offer from Ultra Motorsports to run 5 races for them, which sounds fine to Lajoie. He might feel like doing a few more races than that, though.

1-40 Accepts the deal as is
41-60 Wants to run 10 races
61-80 Wants to run all 12 races
81-100 Focuses on rebuilding his Busch career
89!
Lajoie considers the offer but decides he's better off sticking to what he knows he can do.

----------

SHANE HMIEL
After being suspended from NASCAR competition late in 2003 for substance abuse, Shane Hmiel has completed NASCAR's Road to Recovery program, and is looking to pick up his old career. Robert Yates Racing has decided to offer Hmiel a contract to run in the #28, showing a lot of faith in the 23-year-old. Hmiel is ecstatic at the opportunity to run full-time in the Cup series for a team like Yates and accepts without question.

----------

JACQUES VILLENEUVE
1995 Indy 500 winner, 1995 CART champion, and 1997 Formula 1 World Champion, Jacques Villeneuve's career has fallen on some quite hard times since those glory days of the mid 90s. Let go from what was at one point effectively his team at the end of 2003, Villeneuve finds himself with nowhere really to go for 2004. Contemplating his options, Villeneuve has received two offers from NASCAR teams, with a little extra under-the-table assistance from the sanctioning body to convince him to make the switch to NASCAR. Initial interest came from Bill Davis Racing, but that has dried up, but another midfield team has offered a 1-year deal with the potential for renewal. DEI have also offered a 1-year deal with no strings attached. Villeneuve is much more interested in the DEI offer, coming from a more successful team - he's a bit tired of not winning now. However, he's still not certain whether or not a switch to NASCAR is in his best interests.

1-25 MB2 #10
26-60 DEI #1
61-100 Waits
14!
Villeneuve decides to go for MB2 instead of DEI - apparently he's a sucker for wanting to build up a team rather than move to an existing successful one. He will drive the #10 car in 2004.

This means that Christian Fittipaldi will be signed to drive the #1 car for Dale Earnhardt Inc.

----------

MICHAEL VERGERS
ASCAR star Michael Vergers attempted a switch to American competition in 2002, and was fairly competitive but lacked the funds to continue running Stateside. So, imagine his surprise when Robert Yates Racing came knocking on his door with the opportunity of a part-time deal in their new #98 car - he even gets a bonus if he gets a top 10 finish! Vergers accepts the deal without hesitation, knowing it's his best shot of building a NASCAR career.

----------

DAVE BLANEY
After jumping from struggling team to struggling team in NASCAR Cup competition, Dave Blaney expects more of the same in 2004... right up until he gets a phone call from Chip Ganassi asking him to run in the #41 car in 2004. It's a golden opportunity for Blaney, and likely to be the only such one he'll get, considering his age. He also has an offer on the table from Phoenix Racing, but feels he cannot afford to turn down the Ganassi offer. Dave Blaney will drive the #41 in 2004.

----------

KYLE PETTY
Not much to say here - Kyle wants to continue racing for his family team, has only the one offer from them, and accepts it. He'll keep driving the #45.

----------

JOHN ANDRETTI
A promising career which seems to have petered out... John Andretti has only one contract offer, to run Foyt's part-time car. It's a ride he has to bring money for as well. He throws the offer in the trash without a second thought.

----------

RUSSELL INGALL
The Enforcer is looking forward to yet another season fighting to rid himself of that awful "Bridesmaid" title he's earned for himself over the years. He receives a call out of the blue from some guy called James Finch... asking if he'd be interested in running the NASCAR road course races. It's not a common jump to be making, but hell, it might be worth a laugh, right? He'd only be able to run Sonoma though - Watkins Glen clashes with Oran Park. He'll check with James Finch first to see if that's okay before giving an answer.

----------

JASON PLATO
Jason Plato's attempt at switching to ovals hasn't really panned out, and so he's looking to break back into the BTCC with SEAT this year. He receives an offer from James Finch to run the road courses this year in NASCAR. He can't say he's excited at the prospect, but hell, money's always nice. NASCAR gives him the okay to compete in road courses, so sure, he's up for it.

----------

HIDEO FUKUYAMA
Hideo Fukuyama's foray into NASCAR competition has ended in failure. At least... that's what he and everyone else though, then DEI asks him to scrape a budget together to run in the #15 car full time. Suddenly Hideo Fukuyama is the happiest man on Earth, and runs everywhere trying to scrape every last sponsorship penny he can to please his new employers.

1-10 $300k
11-25 $400k
26-50 $500k
51-75 $600k
76-90 $700k
91-100 $800k
52!
Hideo Fukuyama brings $600k and the biggest smile in the world to Dale Earnhardt Inc.

This means that Sarah Fisher is no longer under consideration for the #15 seat, leaving her free to sign with SCORE's #02 car - she knows better than to be too picky.

----------

FRANK KIMMEL
The Michael Schumacher of ARCA, Kimmel enters 2004 a 5-time ARCA champ. He's made the odd foray into NASCAR competition but it's never really amounted to much. He now has an offer on the table from BAM Racing - it's a one-year deal with the option of a pay-rise for 2005. Not a bad deal, and if it goes bad, he can always return to ARCA, right?

1-80 BAM #49
81-100 Sticks with ARCA
80!
Kimmel hesitates quite a bit but figures nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? He will drive the #49 in 2004.

----------

BRIAN SIMO
Brian Simo has one offer to run the road courses from Andy Petree. He's absolutely not picky about equipment, so is quite happy to fill the part for the #33 team.

----------

With the first round of driver RNG over, Dodge and Chevy are ready to make their decisions on the remaining Semi-Works bids.

While PPI still hasn't signed a driver, the drivers they're going for are much more agreeable, so Dodge agrees to provide Semi-Works status to PPI, especially as DEI has moved on.

Chevrolet, meanwhile, isn't too impressed with Dale Earnhardt Inc, firstly for attempting to ditch them for Dodge, and secondly for sticking two nobodies (in NASCAR terms) in their other two cars. BAM and Phoenix are also in the mix, but Chevrolet is still not sure about supplying such teams.

1-30 Dale Earnhardt Inc.
31-40 Phoenix Racing
41-50 BAM Racing
51-100 Holds on to their money
100!
Chevrolet will be holding on to it's money instead, as they're not impressed by what they've seen.

----------

The following teams are still open for 2004. Existing bids are listed against them. Please note that minimum bids for drivers have now decreased as they are more willing to compromise, to find their way on to the grid. You can find the updated prices on the spreadsheet.

TEAMS
Hendrick Motorsports - #48
Roush Racing - #97, #99
Evernham Motorsports - #9
Chip Ganassi Racing - #13 (10 races)

EDIT: PPI are offering Craven $1million $600k if we get him, so that we can still afford to run Collins and competitive equipment. (I didn't read the 'reduced minimum bid' bit, or notice that we now have more money from Dodge).

Also, as I forgot to point out, Wallace will be driving for BelCar the whole season, seeing as he's basically saved the team from bankruptcy with his $900k pay packet.

I shall also point out that the deadline for the second round of driver bids will be 23.00 BST, Monday 17th April 2017, so be sure to get your bids in before then. And as mentioned, minimum bids have been decreased and your budgets are updated - you can see the details of both on the spreadsheet. Phoenix Racing #09

We will have to alter the parameters of our offers to accommodate unexpected issues.

We are happy to have Russell Ingall compete for us at Sonoma, but to reflect this decrease in attendance, his salary will be adjusted down to $20K. The same applies for Jason Plato - he will be offered $20K for doing only Watkins Glen if Ingall accepts his offer, or we will honour the $50K contract for both rounds.

Now, seeing as Craven passed us over, let's try and piece together a lineup;

Driver name: Bill Elliott
Driver bid ($ million): $200K
Contract length (years): 2 (12 races per season)
Other contract information (if applicable): 12 races per season, racing all events at Daytona, Fontana, Indianapolis, Michigan, Pocono, Talladega & Atlanta.

Driver name: Wawd Burton
Driver bid ($ million): $500K
Contract length (years): 1 (11 races)
Other contract information (if applicable): 11 races, racing all events at Bristol, Dover, Martinsville, Phoenix, Richmond and Darlington.

Driver name: Shigeaki Hattori [Choice 1]
Driver bid ($ million): PD
Contract length (years): 1 (11 races)
Other contract information (if applicable): Must bring a boatload of money. Will fit his schedule around races that Elliott, Burton and Ingall/Plato compete in.

Driver name: Tora Takagi [Choice 2]
Driver bid ($ million): PD
Contract length (years): 1 (11 races)
Other contract information (if applicable): Must bring a boatload of money. Will fit his schedule around races that Elliott, Burton and Ingall/Plato compete in.

NASCAR.com wrote:Chip Ganassi "Road courses should make up at least 10% of the schedule"

In an unexpected move, Chip Ganassi has called for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup to comprise of at least 10%
road courses in the future. "I think it's a no-brainer - the fans love them, it's a challenge for the drivers, we get to reach out to a contingent of fans who we might not be that attractive to at the moment. We visit some ovals twice, as there's not enough ovals available to fill the schedule, so why not expand our horizons and look at road courses? These guys [NASCAR drivers] think they're the best in the world at what they do, let's have them prove it"

Some of the tracks suggested by Ganassi on a list submitted to NASCAR include Road America, Sebring, Laguna Seca, Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve, Mosport Park, and the utilisation of the Daytona roval.

Ganassi also expressed that alterations to the draft schedule for 2004 could see the addition of at least two more road courses for the upcoming season.

If more road courses are added to the schedule, Max Papis will be approached to compete for Ganassi.
