Yes. You must, however, finish the season out of debt to avoid going bankrupt. There is also a limit to how far each team can go into debt, but it will depend on the size of the team, and their behavior. Despite being a former Cup champion who absolutely feels he brings $6 million worth of value to the team in terms of marketing and competitiveness, Jarrett isn't completely averse to considering taking a paycut. He is a little insulted that Yates is asking him to take less money when the team (in his opinion) has unnecessarily expanded out to a third full-time, and fourth part-time team, and is fielding some pretty questionable drivers in those cars. However, he is still loyal to the team where he achieved so much success and desperately wants to help turn things around after a very disappointing 2003.

1-50 Accepts a paycut to $4.5 million
51-100 Tells Robert Yates to look at getting rid of one of those other cars he doesn't need

Jarrett accepts the paycut and hopes it will make a difference. This boosts Yates' budget to $4.25 million.

As we are still waiting on what will happen with Yates' cars, Kirk Shelmerdine will have to wait before purchasing a "Yates budgetmobile".
