...driver bids (hurry-up, you two... ;)), I've added a new 'rankings' feature at the start of the thread. It shows a rainbow-coloured list of each team's car's performance statistics in an ordered list, along with the difference from the leader. A power-to-weight ratio (lb/HP and kW/kg) measurement will also be added, once engine signing has taken place.

For anyone curious about my sanity, I promise you that I didn't spend all-night making the list by hand; I spent all-night writing a computer thingy to generate the post syntax for me to paste in, thus ensuring I'll just be pressing a button and pasting the spaghetti into the post after each subsequent race.

It appears we have the fourth or fifth best chassis and only have a couple of major shortcomings (mechanical grip is terrible, and the car's a bit heavy) this year chassis-wise, unlike how awful the A7 was in launch spec- with this far better baseline I think Arrows can be confident of some kind of consistent points scoring (or I've just jinxed things...)

Was that the Arrows where it had a design fault, that caused one of the pushrods in the front suspension to pierce through the chassis when you turned the front wheels too much (like at a hairpin), or something? I'm sure Arrows had a car that did that around this time :roll:. I'm not imagining that, am I~?! :twisted:

'Team Lotus' split from 'Lotus Engineering' - who own the production-car side of the group - in 1954, and since 1958 have been regulator competitors in Formula One. The two companies are independently registered - both in the UK - and Peter Warr has stated in the media, as recently as a 1982 interview, that "[the two entities] are completely separate. They always have been. There is no financial relationship between the sports car manufacturing and the racing team. It's always been that way to protect - the way Colin set it up - to protect and isolate the two parts of the business from each other."

Attempts were made, by Lotus' senior management, to attract white-knight investment from the team's previous sponsors - Candy, ICI Tactel and Marlboro, in addition to enticing Renault back into the sport, having supplied the team with competitive engines last season - but were not successful.

Due to the perceived public opinion of such a significant sport-related business failure, the British government intervened by way of an emergency parliamentary session. It was hoped that a deal could be made with British Leyland - with one of the group's major auto brands part-owning the team and providing major sponsorship - but it has proved a futile effort, despite a written guarantee from HM Treasury that the team's debts will be settled by the British government, should they prove greater than currently estimated.

With newly-retained Nigel Mansell's contract by far the most financially-volatile element in the situation, Lotus' legal counsel have informed management of the awkward option of terminating his employment with the team.

* Invoke a termination clause in Mansell's contract. Doing so will refund the team his agreed annual salary of £3,400,000, minus £375,000, leaving the team with a balance of -£861,907. It is not practical to terminate de Angelis' contract, due to complexities with Italian law that would make the process too lengthy and costly. Although the team will be able to carry on, be aware that due to your behavior, the team's board of directors insist on a change of management, and as such you will be removed from your position; the role of team manager will be offered to the next person in the queue.
* Allow Team Lotus to be wound-up and dissolved. After settling debts with creditors, the team's remaining assets of value will be auctioned-off to other Formula One teams, allowing them to benefit from your collapse. Nigel Mansell and Elio de Angelis' contracts will be terminated, and both drivers will be available on the driver market in phase two.



The Lotus team are requested to respond to this event.

We kept Rosberg? Wow, that is surprising considering we gave him a worse season than Damon Hill's 1997, although considering we have a decent car now we hope more can be achieved than a single point.

Also, two years in to this series and Lotus is already in its death throes; I have to say, novitopoli, you work fast! :P

I guess I overspent to try and get second place in the Constructors' Championship last year... :oops:
But it would be a waste to dissolve a team with probably the third best car in the field. So, I'll leave someone to take care of the team, and Nigel will be free to go wherever he wishes.

If it's viable, I'd like to join again the waiting list.

Teams that scored at least one point in the previous year's championship may sign team sponsors; teams that failed to score any points may not. In addition, certain teams owned by parent manufacturers may have lost some of their sponsorship space. Everyone's available sponsorship slots are listed below:
