GPR's "Hey, look what I did but not on here!" thread.

Post by WaffleCat »

Hey there, since I didn't spot anything for this on the forum, here is the chance to display your work elsewhere on the internet world outside of GPRejects! Be it articles, columns, photography, videos, you name it, post it here!

I'll get the ball rolling with something I'm attempting to start up on; a new series on the F1 Subreddit about any random F1 driver, beginning with the East/West German driver, Edgar Barth
My friend's USB drive spoiled, spilled tea on her laptop and had a bird poo in her hand.

What did she do in her past life to deserve this?

Well, in a metaphorical sense the site certainly is "liberating" rare recordings from various vaults...

And while it may not exactly be breaking the law, it's certainly in the grey area. Somewhere between the realms of death and blood red skies.

As some of you may already be aware, I'm very heavily involved in motorsport here in the land of Oz, particularly in the drag racing scene. Current portfolio includes event coordinator/manager at Sydney Dragway and part-time admin staff at IHRA Australia. All those years of ARWS has paid off :P

Or possibly between the hammer and the anvil.

Hope you don't think I'm being a grinder, or that I'm never satisfied, but it's looking a bit run-of-the-mill at the moment. Make it more of an exciter! A bit more colour wouldn't go amiss (red, white & blue would do nicely), and there's plenty of room for a few more pictures (make sure they're not private property, though, Google is bound to have some kind of electric eye watching). Don't be reckless, though, you wouldn't want the site to be a victim of too many changes - and there's no need to live after midnight and have to reach for the painkillers before the dawn.

Well, like Tommy, I too was a University Challenge captain, but unlike Oxford Brookes we were too shite to get on the main show so that never particularly became a thing. Not 100% sure if I'll bother going for it next year or not, it may depend largely on whether we have free food at our try-outs.

My main thing is cricket. Until my knee blew out, I used to be a pretty good fast bowler. These videos are from when I was about fifteen and when I put my back into it I generated decent pace for my age. The main reason I uploaded them was because I was ambitious at the time and I wanted to send the videos to some county set-ups to try to get myself some try-outs. It kinda worked - I spent the winter training with pros just after I turned seventeen, but that was pretty much the last I did as a fast bowler because my right knee had sustained some pretty serious damage. Since then I've turned myself into a good off-spinner who bats pretty well and have actually earned a little bit from playing cricket.

I also did quite a bit of cricket writing in my teens, but that stopped in my A-levels because I had to concentrate on those instead.

Oh, and I've been told I take some pretty good photos. I should probably invest in a better camera. (Have some travel photos too.)
Every word of that links to a different photo and it took me ages.

If I'm honest though, the thing I'm proudest of is the one I can't provide evidence of here. Rather than going straight to uni, I got work at a local primary school for a year, specialising in autistic kids. I did it for a year, demonstrably helped several people, and saved enough that it has so far paid for two months of backpacking and my first year of uni. I also proved to myself that once I've finished my bachelor's and PGCE I'll be able to do the only "proper job" I've ever aspired to and do it bloody well.

I've mentioned my radio career on here before - brief and unspectacular though it was - and I may or may not have mentioned that I now do it for fun on a Community Radio Station called Switch Radio which is based in Castle Vale, Birmingham. Now seems a good time to talk about it!

My show is called SwitchBack and is broadcast from 5-7pm (UK time) on Sundays, it's a countdown of a Top 40 Chart from this week in history (like 'Pick Of The Pops' on R2 but longer, better and with more interesting chat - I would say that of course) and you can stream it via the website : www.switchradio.co.uk or Radioplayer or TuneIn.

All my old shows are on Mixcloud, if you search for Andy Noax (my 'showbiz' name) or SwitchBack you should find them.

Erm...you linked a photo of Tarso Marques.

I don't know if you're hinting that your latest cover is an ode to him in some fashion, but I can safely say that I was pleasantly surprised...

I think what Tommy meant to do was post a picture of the other end of the 1997 grid rather than Tarso Marques.

It's a cover of "Accepterais-tu", isn't it?

Isn't it?

Okay, teensy bump (actually a massive bump but oh well), but I recently posted an article on Singapore's embarrassing attempt to race in the World Cup of Motorsport, A1GP.

To be a reject team in F1 isn't really a bad thing. You could be really good in other categories yet flounder in F1. Heck, one reject team (Onyx) managed a podium. But it takes something truly special to be a rejectful team in A1GP. And Singapore was definitely rejectful.

Tringapore cannot into motorsport lah! And I thought A1 Teams Pakistan and Lebanon were rejectful, not exactly being hotbeds of motorsport talent.

And it was also a helpful reminder that China cannot into street circuits, and Formula E has been taking notes.
