TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY Retrospective
It's ten years today since that most feted event in rejectdom. Markus Winkelhock, a touring car driver, turned up in Formula 1 and needed only one lap to get into first place. Kinda puts Senna's Donington race in '93 to shame, no?
If, for any reason at all you've forgotten those most wonderous events, you can revisit them here. It's essentially a short-form retrospective-profile experiment. Enjoy: https://gprejects.com/centrale/drivers/ ... lhock-2007
Thank you!

Re: TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY Retrospective
Nothing, not even Jenson and Brawn's glory year in 2009 (maybe because that lasted longer!) has filled me with so much joy in F1 since. It makes me a bit wobbly just thinking about it - the last truly great underdog moment in the sport.
Having Murray commentating on the radio - boy, did they pick a good one for his guest spot - made it even more special.

What about Maldonado's win in 2012?

Fisichella's pole and 2nd place in Spa 2009?
Re: TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY Retrospective
Neither of those grabbed me in the same way - the former I am very uneasy about, it stank a bit of something not quite right about it to me. Fisichella's Spa was quite exciting, but not in the same league.

My gosh what a race that was. I just wish there wasn't a red flag and that Winkelhock's car didn't give out.
Great article, really brought feelings of nostalgia.

Let's not forget how much the Force India improved during that 2009 season combined with the rollercoaster nature of team performance. Come Belgium the team was on the cusp of a breakthrough result and yes the performance was excellent but it felt more purely deserved than underdog triumph. Whereas the Spyker in 2007 was clearly the slowest machine in the field so it felt much more of an underdog moment to cherish because you knew it wouldn't last
Europe 2007 is easily one of the top 5 races I've ever seen in my 15 years of F1. It had almost everything. Mark Webber on the podium for Red Bull when they were no hopers. David Coulthard started 20th and came 5th. 6 cars off in the deluge at turn 1 and of course Alonso and Massa's heated post race exchange

I'm sure it was just the follow on from Alonso's bullying pass on Massa for the win.
