2017 Hungarian Grand Prix - Predicament Predictions!

Post by Rob Dylan »

Welcome to the 2017 Formula 1™ Pirelli™ Magyar™ Nagydíj™ Predicament Predictions!

Having never been previously known as the home of the overtake, the Hungaroring hosts the 2017 Hungarian Grand Prix this year, much to our delight and suspense, for with every Formula 1 race, there must come a predictions championship race alongside! As usual, get your predictions in before the end of final practice. To keep you all up to date (as I've noticed there's been a little bit of confusion), the Did Not Qualify option has been changed to a Did Not Start option, and yes, Esteban Ocon is still eligible for the Minor League Premiership under the rules of the game.

My predictions for this race are:

1. Max Verstappen
2. Daniel Ricciardo
3. Valtteri Bottas
4. Sebastian Vettel
5. Lewis Hamilton
6. Kimi Räikönnen
7. Fernando Alonso
8. Felipe Massa
9. Romain Grosjean
10. Kevin Magnussen

Pole: Lewis Hamilton
Fastest lap: Max Verstappen
First retirement: Stoffel Vandoorne
ROTR: Kimi Räikönnen
IIDOTR: Fernando Alonso
DBTMOTR: Stoffel Vandoorne
MLP: Lance Stroll
DNS: Marcus Ericsson

And a bonus point goes to the player with the funniest race title, as usual. Just to clarify (because I keep forgetting to say in the race report), Aislabie got the bonus point in Silverstone.

Don't forget you can use double points at any time if you haven't used it before.

Just because I thought of a title, because I rack up another year on Thursday, and because there's a new article about our favourite one-hit wonder on the main site, I'm going to have a one-off entry:

2017 "Hungary Hungary Hippos At The Hunger-Roaring So Give Them Lashings And Lashings Of Gulasch" Grand Prix

1. Lewis "What da frick" Hamilton, innit
2. Sebastian "The Baku Bruiser" Vettel
3. Valerie "Walter the not-softy" Bottas
4. Daniel "Smiler" Ricciardo
5. Nico "if only every race could be held at Le Mans" Hülkenberg
6. Kimi "Perkele" Räikkönen
7. Checo "Sergio" Pérez
8. Esteban "The French Leprechaun" O'Con
9. Rrrrrrrmmmnnn "pas de vowels, encore" Grrrrjjjjnnn
10. Felipe "please remember me!" Massa

Pole: Hamster, innit
Fastest lap: Valerie, in a final lunge on the last lap using Fan B... oh, wait, no
First retirement: Max "Pepsi" Verstappen in a first-lap engine blow-out that produces some interesting radio messages
ROTR: The race itself, for not giving us a first time winner that Hungary has a strange knack of doing (see Alonso, Kovalainen, Button, and some bloke who went for a pizza with Murray Walker once)
IIDOTR: The Incredible Hulk, making up for Baku
DBTMOTR: Jolyon "unlike Stuart Broad, I'm not better than my dad" Palmer, who Eddie Jordan says will be replaced by Pascal "hairstyle by Lego" Wehrlein
MLP: O'Con of Connemara
DNS: nobody, but Max comes within a few corners of it before the familiar Renault gremlins kick in.

AND NOW AN EVEN BIGGER PREDICTION:
With this last race before the summer break, I wait to see if "I would just like to say if I may"'s prediction comes true. I don't think it will; Mercedes letting Wehrlein go to a rival manufacturer would certainly be an odd move. Remember also that this weekend brings us the final two rounds of the Formula E season, in which Renault e.dams driver Sébastien Buemi will cruise to two easy victories (after Pierre Gasly kept his seat warm in New York), thus crowning him the champion for the second successive season. If we who watch electric racing are to be spared a third season in a row of French-speaking utter domination, why not solve that problem by giving Seb another go at F1 in the second Renault? Maybe that's why Alain Prost's been seen in the Renault F1 garage recently, forging more links between the electric and the petrol-powered teams. Maybe that's why Palmer has had worse luck in the car; Le Professeur has been asking for the better supply of spare parts to be kept aside for a more favoured driver among the Renault stable who can be instantly more competitive on the back of a championship.
James Allen, on his favourite F1 engine of all time:
"...the Life W12, I can't describe the noise to you, but imagine filling your dustbin with nuts and bolts, and then throwing it down the stairs, it was something akin to that!"

So with a huge amount of delay, here are the results of the race that closes the first half of our exciting predicament predictions season of 2017 so far!

1. Enforcer 17
- Aguvazk 17

19. dr-baker 8
20. peteroli34 7
21. Normal32 5

For the first time this season, we have three winners for one race. And for the first time, we have a repeat winner after 11 races! Mario and Enforcer take their second wins, whilst Aguvazk gets his first one! Well done to all, although the major players were in the top 10, their order was way out of sync and caught a lot of people out. Lots of front-runners were not so lucky, and so it appears Mario has upped his lead further in the championship overall.

STANDINGS
1. Mario 184
2. Tommykl 164
3. This Could Be You 156
4. Aislabie 155

Indeed, so Mario's sheer consistency and high scores have given him a very comfortable lead over the rest of the pack going into the summer break. I'll count up the results for Belgium and Italy very soon as well.

On other exciting news, I have come to a decision on my grand prizes for this year's predicament predictions championship! They will be announced sometime closer to the end of the season, but watch this space :D

Well you know what they say: once you've won your first predicament predictions race, the rest come much easier, as the pressure you face to win has been lifted somewhat, and mentally you know now that you can do it :vergne:
