North Star have offered a whole list of drivers two races in the Lola, British and Italian GPs
The British gig is actually quite valuable, as DNPQ'ers can compete for the Tony Brise Memorial Trophy
First up is Vittorio Brambilla, who already has an existing drive and declines the North Star offer.
Second is Francois Migualt, who already has an existing drive and declines the North Star offer.
Third is Beppe Gabbiani, who already has an existing drive and declines the North Star offer.
Fourth is Brett Lunger, who already has an existing drive and declines the North Star offer.
Fifth is Piercarlo Ghinzani, who already has an existing drive and declines the North Star offer.

Sixth is Harald Ertl, who alr--- who is out of a drive since 1977, where he DNPQ'd at the British Grand Prix
Funnily enough, he was driving for North Star that day
The question is, does Ertl have time to spare in his beard care regime?
He brings a season total of 167,200, with backing from Heyer
The issue is, Ertl is in the middle of a championship battle for the 1978 DRM title
The British Gp and the Auto-Rennen Flugplatz Kassel Calden round occur on the same fay of 16 July
Will Ertl be willing to race at the Italian GP, where there is no clash?
1-30 I could get chatting to ATS about a 79 drive
31-100 It's not worth the injury risk
9!

Ertl agrees to race for North Star at the Italian GP
Seventh is Patrick Neve, who has just been sacked from March
He brings a season total of £156,100.00
1-45 Accepts the British GP offer from North Star
46-100 Waits for a better offer
26

North Star now have the line ups of:
Silvio Bachot and Patrick Neve for the British GP
Silvio Bachot and Harald Ertl for the Italian GP

Name: Arie Luyendyk
Wage: Paydriver (must bring some sort of money)
Contract Length: Netherlands only

Driver
Name: Jan Lammers
Wage: Paydriver (must bring some sort of money)
Contract Length: Netherlands only

Boro have also decided to invest in their first upgrades of the year, one for each: Grip, Handling and Mass.

Arie Luyendyk has an offer from Boro to compete in his home Grand Prix
Given his woeful performance in F3 so far this year, he figures this is a great way to raise his stock
He can bring a season total of 27,300 to Boro
1-85 signs
86-100 Declines
5
An emphatic yes from Luyendyk, who can hopefully make the grid for his home Grand Prix

Grip: 34

Mass: -1

French GP will be run today, from 3 PM. See you in the Discord!

Ahhhhh, upgrade time it is. Looks like we've a decent car in the twisty bits but very little to offer on the straights which, judging by some of the tracks left, could be a worry later on in the season.

Trofeo Dino Ferrari

Post by pasta_maldonado »

Trofeo Dino Ferrari
The second running of the Trofeo Dino Ferrari will take place between the French and Tuscan Grands Prix. Only 26 cars can start the race, so if a maximum entry of 28 is reached, 2 cars will fail to qualify.

A flat travel fee of £15,000 will apply to both all non-Italian teams that enter. All teams are limited to using their current chassis and engines.

Any driver currently signed to drive for all races for a team will automatically race for you if you so choose in the Trophy. You are free to sign different drivers, however, they will be subject to an RNG. Drivers for non-champiosnhip teams will also be subject to RNG. Wages do not have to be paid to any driver competing in a non-championship grand prix. However, injuries may still occur.

Prize money will be given out to teams in the usual fashion.

Entries will be assigned on a first-come first-serve basis. Entries are split into three categories:

1. As this is an Italian race, all Italian teams (Ferrari, Autodelta, Minardi, and Merzario) have guaranteed entries. Entries are free for Italian teams
2. Any other team with a full or European only travel package (5 teams)
3. Any team with a part time schedule (3 teams)

Link in case table does not work properly for you.

Get your entries in by 13:00 Wednesday Please remember that entries are on a first come first served basis and as a result the entry list will close when it is full.

Please use the following forms for submitting entries:

Code: Select all

Category: Italian, Full/European, Privateer
Team Name:
Number:
Driver #1:
Driver #2: (if making multiple bids)
Number:
Driver #1:

We might as well make the trip to Imola to test out those upgrades properly.

North Star (Part time):
Driver 1: Silvio Bachot (52)
Driver 2: Patrick Neve (53)

Also, how much do I need to slide under the table for Ensign to pick up the drowning North Star outfit?

Autosport wrote:Team Ensign in Swoop for Struggling British Outfit?

According to sources within both teams, North Star Racing and Team Ensign have been discussing a potential merger of the two outfits after the conclusion of the 1978 season. The new team would retain the Team Ensign name and image and would combine for a strong British racing team that could compete with the likes of Lotus and McLaren.

Team Ensign has had a very successful season to date, with a season-high finish by Ronnie Petersen of 8th at the season opener.

Autosport wrote:Hesketh, Shadow set to merge

The struggling Hesketh Formula One team has announced today that a merger has been arranged with the equally beleagured Shadow team to consolidate resources and funding going forward through the rest of 1978. It is understood that the combined organisation will maintain the Hesketh name, the 308E chassis and the majority of their current supplier deals, although it is unknown which of the four drivers under contract will be maintained for future rounds. Hesketh are next expected to compete at the non-championship Trofeo Dino Ferrari on the 18th of June.

With that, Hesketh takes Shadow's assets, selling their DN5Bs to collectors but retaining their '77 spec engines over our '75 units if possible also. With the money we'll get from selling said chassis, we'll enter the Trofeo Dino Ferrari with our existing Olofsson/South lineup

The Alfa Romeo cars, seconds after disaster

Chaos reigned in the Alfa Romeo garage at the Trofeo Dino Ferrari, after Elio de Angelis was crashed out of the race by Emerson Fittipaldi as he came out of the pits at the famous Imola circuit. To make matters worse, as de Angelis was arriving back at the garage, Fittipaldi pulled in to retire his Alfa due to terminal damage caused by his teammate's flying front wheel.

In what had looked like the team's only realistic chance at a race win this season, to lose both drivers at one another's hand was more than anyone in the team appeared able to take. Reports of a mass brawl in the Alfa Romeo garage including both drivers and several senior team management figures have yet to be confirmed.

Further details to follow.

the newly monied (well, more than the £7k we had left before lol) Hesketh wishes to terminate our contract with Anders Olofsson for the upcoming British and Dutch GPs, sign Patrick Tambay for those races on a £80k p/yr wage (£5k per race for the two championship races he'll do, essentially) and enter Tambay and South in the Race of Champions and Tony Brise memorial trophy. We will also clarify that our sponsor deal with ICI is a Tier 2 deal, and that we are using Shadow's '77 spec DFV engine deal rather than our '75 spec pity engine deal.

Fastest Lap: Patrick Depailler - 1:39.023
Drive of the race: James Hunt - Used Gordon Murray's fan car to great effect, running away with the race.
Reject of the race: Clay Regazzoni - Swapped ends twice and found the gravel trap on both occasions. Extracting himself put the McLaren 2 laps down, and led to the low-point of McLaren's season - being lapped by a Boro.

The aptly named "fan car" in action

Enzo Ferrari has laid down a challenge to the teams who had displayed displeasure at the Brabham "fan car" used at the Gran Premio del Mugello. "Give us a few weeks and we'll be right back out in front," he told MSM reporter Motorsport di Motorsportio. "Even with their development, we still got both of our cars in front of one of theirs. Give us a few weeks to build our own and we'll be lapping the field by Monza!"

In response to complaints from drivers that the fan threw stones into their eyes, Enzo responded with his usual bluster: "Get in front of them then! That's certainly how we at Ferrari plan to deal with the problem."

There are rumours however that the fan innovation was only possible because of the compact Cosworth DFV engines used by Brabham. "Our flat-12 engine configuration is the envy of the world!" he exclaimed, "The only reason that Brabham needed to resort to such tactics is because they aren't able to build one of their own. Anything that can't be used with a 12-cylinder engine has no place in F1."

"Now, no further questions," he added, "Gilles and I are going on a family holiday to Fiorano."

Race of Champions - submit entries!

Post by pasta_maldonado »

Race of Champions
A non-championship event has taken place at Brands Hatch for a few years now, but recent runnings have seen sparse fields, with a mix of old F1, F2, and Formula Libre cars.

The event has been re-branded to the Race of Champions in a bid to attract more interest from the front-running Formula One teams. The race will take place between the Mugello and British Grands Prix. Only 26 cars can start the race, so there will be a maximum entry limit of 13 teams.

A flat travel fee of £15,000 will apply to all non-British teams that enter. All teams are limited to using their current chassis and engines.

Any driver currently signed to drive for all races for a team will automatically race for you if you so choose in the Trophy. You are free to sign different drivers, however, they will be subject to an RNG. Drivers for non-championship teams will also be subject to RNG. Wages do not have to be paid to any driver competing in a non-championship grand prix. However, injuries may still occur.

Prize money will be given out to teams in the usual fashion.

Entries will be assigned on a first-come first-serve basis. Entries can be viewed on the ROC tab of the spreadsheet below:

Link in case table does not work properly for you.

Please remember that entries are on a first come first served basis and as a result the entry list will close when it is full.

Please use the following forms for submitting entries:

Note: the gap between the Mugello GP and British GP is one upgrade period. You can only upgrade once in each category between now and the British GP

Williams to seek clarification on future legality on fan car

James Hunt's dominant win at the Tuscan Grand Prix has immediately stirred up a controversy surrounding the legality of the Brabham BT46B "fan car" that took him to victory.

"The way I see it, Gordon Murray and his team have found a clever loophole in the regulations," Williams technical director Patrick Head responded when asked for comment. "I don't think anything can or should be done by the governing body about the Mugello result. However, Patrick reported getting pelted with little gravel stones as he followed Hunt's car in the early stages of the race. I think that in the name of safety, the rulemakers should step in before everyone from Enzo Ferrari to Dydo Monguzzi puts a fan at the back of their cars and everyone gets showered in dirt and debris out there. Helmut Marko's unfortunate accident a few years back should be a warning to us. However, should the fan cars remain legal, we have to accept that reality as a team, as there is no way anyone can afford not to copy such a game-changing device."
