FISA Press release wrote: After having heard the stewards of the United States West Grand Prix, given the analyses of the measurements taken by the scrutineering team at the Spanish Grand Prix, the Banco Occidental team are excluded from the Spanish Grand Prix weekend on account of violation of the following articles of the F1 Technical Regulations:

Art 6.3.1 - A constructor is any people or corporate entities which design key parts of Formula One cars that have competed or are intended to compete in the FIA World Championship.

Art 6.3.2 - A constructor must design the entirety of the car, with the exception of the following: engine, gearbox, safety harness, steering wheel, tyres(...)

The Banco Occidental entry for the rest of the championship is null and void. This decision takes effect immediately

Williams to attend Spanish Grand Prix

Contrary to a boycott announcement from FOCA boss and Brabham team principal Bernie Ecclestone, Williams have announced that they intend to participate in the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix.

"We are competing for a championship. We will not jeopardise our position compared to teams such as Renault because of an issue that doesn't directly concern our team. Mr de Villota knows the regulations. If he failed to comply with them, it is his concern, not ours. We consider boycott threats at this stage a disproportionate escalation. The intention of a boycott was announced without prior consultation with FOCA members, and made public without our consent."

Rumours are circulating in the paddock that the Williams team are frustrated with the outcome of the Concorde Agreement negotiation of the past winter and their commitment to FOCA is fading.

Honda are interested in manufacturing engines for the 1982, it has emerged in recent weeks. The Japanese manufacturer, not associated with F1 since the 1960s, has reportedly conducted dyno tests at their facilities in Suzuka, Japan. The new turbocharged engine is reported to have logged “extremely competitive” numbers.

Honda are reportedly close to signing an exclusive deal with a “front-running” Formula One team.

Williams to join Spanish Grand Prix boycott
Following a meeting with Bernie Ecclestone after an initial refusal to join FOCA's proposed Spanish Grand Prix boycott, Williams have withdrawn their entries for the fifth round of the Championship. The Williams team has now been assured that their concerns are sufficiantly addressed in FOCA's negotiating positions.

In other Williams-related news, there has been speculation that Williams are in advanced negotiations with a major automotive partner to develop a turbocharged engine in order to remain competitive against their Renault-powered opponents at the front of the grid.

"I thought the BBC were sending a journalist."

"Yes that's me. Bob, what can you tell us about the planned F1 boycott?"

"Well I can tell you that B&S Fabrications won't be taking part in the boycott. We have to serve the interests of our current and future commercial partners at this difficult time for the sport. And please call me Mr Sparshott."

"That's very interesting Bob. So you are crossing the picket line?"

"Nothing so inflammatory. We are competing in a motor race."

"Very brave stuff. Would it be fair to describe Bernie Ecclestone as F1's very own Joe Gormley?"

"Don't be daft."

"Do you have any sympathy for Emilio de Villota at this time?"

"Not particularly. We were in a similar position a few years ago, and since we started building our own cars we have gone from strength to strength as an organisation. The rules are very clear."

"Too right. I've always said those little teams are like branch lines. F1 needs a Beeching figure to get rid of them."

"Is that a question?"

"Possibly. I'm not sure. Thank you for your time. I'll throw back to Broadcasting House and Bob, see you in Spain."

Statement from B&S Fabrications wrote: Following his injury at Buenos Aires, Rupert Keegan was stood down for one race by doctors. Despite since being cleared to race at both Curitiba and Long Beach, it is clear that he is still hampered by his injuries. The B&S Fabrications team hopes that by standing him down for a period of one race weekend, he will have time to recover from his injuries and return to his usual high standards.

For the Spanish Grand Prix, B&S Fabrications have agreed the one-race loan of Patrick Depailler from Ligier, free of charge.

The 29 car will be driven by Depailler, and the 30 by South.

The Rise and Fall of Ron Dennis, Episode II wrote:While Ron Dennis had been forced into aligning himself with FISA due to his engine supplier, he was by no means a loyalist to the cause of the current FIA presidency. When it came to the boycott of the Spanish Grand Prix by FOCA teams, Dennis responded to a question about it in a famous press conference of Formula 1 history that would alter the war.

"We are at a point where this has become completely ridiculous. The FISA excludes a team for violations of the regulations, FOCA responds with a boycott, FISA makes up new rules to harass FOCA members - repeat ad infinitum. The worst thing is that neither side is any closer to getting the other to genuflect. Neither Jean-Marie Balestre nor Bernie Ecclestone are the kind of person to do so.

With the unrealistic assumption by both sides, the time has come for decisions. Not just for the two names, not just for McLaren and its sponsors, but for the entire sport. When you pay attention to what is happening, you will notice that this motorsport conflict has damaged the financial means of almost all teams in the sport. The leaders of FISA and FOCA both fail their groups.

Of course, it is easy for me to sit here and say that given as the boycott by the FOCA teams leaves McLaren in an excellent position for the Spanish Grand Prix, but McLaren is just as dependent on the legitimacy of the competition as all the other teams. McLaren is dependent on the regulatory and commercial boards performing to the best of their ability.

We implore both factions to finally bring an end to this unproductive disagreement and work out a more permanent solution that is not affected by the pretensions to greatness of ... large characters. Motorsport is too expensive for its leaders to engage in hostilities - a strict corporate structuring is necessary for this great sport to maintain its greatness."
The Rise and Fall of Ron Dennis is an eight-episode documentary produced by Best In The World available on Amazon Prime.

Autosport wrote:Tensions Mount in Strange Weekend
The last weekend of Grand Prix motor racing has taken us back to scenes not seen since the 1979 Dutch Grand Prix. FOCA teams withdrew from the event in protest following the exclusion of Banco Occidental, whom FISA have judged to made very little alterations to a pair of purchased Williams chassis.
Unlike the Dutch Grand Prix of 2 years ago, FISA President Jean-Marie Balestre has declared this a championship round, primarily because the FISA aligned teams were the ones taking part.

There were some in the FOCA camp who hoped the race would be forced to be declared null due to not meeting the 14 minimum required starters. However, three FOCA teams- B&S Fabrications, Osella, and Theodore - crossed the picket line to make up the numbers. Although morally dubious, their rewards for doing so were made clear, with all three constructors scoring their first ever points.- and B&S their first ever podium. Reports that Gunther Schmid's ATS outfit would join the boycott proved to be unsubstantiated.

With a McLaren 1-2 appearing locked in for the race, the first lap saw both McLaren's tumble down the order, lapping at a sedentary pace side-by-side until peeling off into the pit lane - a symbolic retirement to represent the neutrality of McLaren in what team principal Ron Dennis has labelled a 'sordid' affair. TV cameras picked up Dennis marching straight to the FISA delegation, clipboard in hand, and sources close to the team have indicated that discussion with FISA President Jean-Marie Balestre were 'constructive'.

Elio de Angelis had the better of the Renaults in the early stages, but after the pitstops Alain Prost emerged in front. Didier Pironi had pitted later, and rapidly caught his teammate on fresher tyres. However, Prost knew exactly where to stick his Renault, and his defensive line proved insurmountable for Pironi. That is, until the pair collided with 4 laps to go at the final corner - Pironi arguing there was a gap, and Prost arguing that he took the same line he had taken for the previous 64 laps.

The next World Championship event is scheduled for 17 May at Zolder.
Autosprint wrote:Pironi furious at Prost

Renault driver Didier Pironi slammed team-mate Alain Prost for allegedly closing the door on lap 65 of the Spanish Grand Prix, leading to the collision that sent both Renaults out of the race.

"I had a far better exit [from the penultimate corner] and [Prost] left a gap - naturally I took that gap, as any racing driver would. [Prost] saw me and closed the door, leading to the collision. If he cannot handle his team0mate being faster, he shouldn't be racing. I will never speak with [Prost] again".

In response, Alain Prost told media that he had been "consistent" with his line, and that he was driving "methodically" for the win.

"If you damage the car, how can you win?" said Prost. "Pironi is far too reckless, and his driving will get somebody killed."

Derek Warwick, the Formula Two star, is B&S's new signing.

The team's first-ever points finish - through a podium no less - was a cause for exceptionally rowdy celebrations for the Luton-based F1 squad at B&S Fabrications. Well, for almost everyone: Rupert Keegan wasn't happy at all.

He had been benched by Bob Sparshott on the grounds that it would give his injuries from Buenos Aires some time to properly heal. He then had to sit at home and watch the race coverage as his car was driven to third place without him in it. For Keegan, this was the last straw; he informed Sparshott that he would never drive for the team again. This is a stunning fall from grace for a driver who, a mere few weeks ago, had been assured of a Lotus drive this season.

As ever, Bob Sparshott has a plan: with Patrick Depailler returning to his usual seat at Arrows in Zolder, he needed a replacement driver. That driver is an obvious choice: Britain's Derek Warwick has been dominant in Formula Two, and is absolutely ready for the highest level. It will be interested to see how the young talent does.
OOC: B&S Fabrications will sign Derek Warwick until the end of the 1982 season.

Fastest Lap: Keke Rosberg - 1:20.882
Drive of the race: Clay Regazzoni - lapped the field en route to a crushing victory. Haters will say he was lucky, with Rosberg stopping for damage, Villeneuve crashing out, lack of Renaults, and Jarier being Jarier (see below), but it is an impressive feat nonetheless
Reject of the race: Jean-Pierre Jarier: It is also impressive that Jarier managed to crash into the pit entrance whilst coming in for a stop. Well done.

The motorsport world remembers Didier Pironi, who tragically lost his life at Zolder whilst competing in qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix

Didier Pironi, on a flying lap, encountered the March of Guillaume Gauthier. The March, travelling slowly on a cool-down lap, was on the racing line at the left-hander before Terlamenbocht. Gauthier moved to the right to allow Pironi through on the inside, and a tragic miscommunication saw Pironi also attempt to pass the much slower March on the right of the track. The Renault launched into the air, and Pironi was ejected from the car sans helmet at some point during the ensuing barell-rolls.

He was rushed to hospital but unfortunately was pronounced dead. The Frenchman had one career victory to his name, the 1980 Italian Grand Prix, driving for Renault.
Autosport wrote:Sighinolfi stands-in at Renault
Luciano Sighinolfi has been signed by Renault on a short-term basis to fill in for the late Didier Pironi. Sighinolfi, now competing under a French racing licence due to his mother's family heritage, has been entered for the Monaco Grand Prix alongside Alain Prost. This publication understands that the deal is a temporary one whilst Renault look to find a permanent replacement.
OOC: Wazzleis free to nominate a replacement for Didier Pironi following the Monaco Grand Prix. Failure to do so will result in myself choosing the replacement driver.
Autosport wrote:Jarier on thin ice at McLaren?
Rumours have emerged that Jean-Pierre Jarier may be replaced at McLaren before the end of the season. The Frenchman - who won the opening Argentine Grand Prix - has crashed out from 3 of the last 4 races, a run of form that has reportedly made team boss Ron Dennis "apoplectic" with rage. Leading contenders for the drive include Silvio Bachot, Rupert Keegan, and Thierry Boutsen.

I'm afraid the page for which upgrades every car has and the car stats page aren't very up-to-date yet.

But yeah see above, i should have budget for that.
