Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Azerbaijan 2022

Post by Frogfoot9013 »

Post your nominations for IIDOTR for the Azerbaijan GP here. Though I didn't watch the race, I presume some of ye did.

(1) Mercedes 3rd and 4th - most unexpected

(2) Vettel 6th - very impressive drive and best spin turn of the race or even season!

1. Zhou Guanyu: After being the slower Alfa Romeo driver by far on the previous weekends, he turned the tables and destroyed Bottas in qualifying. Also had the better race of the two until his car failed. Despite having to retire, clearly his best performance so far!
2. Pierre Gasly: Great qualifying, followed by pretty much the maximum result in the race.

Vettel for me on this one. 6th place despite botching his first pass on Ocon, ahead of both Alpines and both McLarens. He had really good race pace in what's not a good car.

Gasly is a decent option too, but the AT is a better car than the AM, especially around here with the Red Bull Power Unit. So for me it's just a little less of an achievement for him to be 5th than Seb to be 6th.

Russel & Merc? No. They were exactly where they should've been with both Ferraris out.

I will nominate Scuderia AlphaTauri as a whole. The unfortunate DRS situation with Tsunoda aside they were quite good all weekend.

Sebastian Vettel did really well, one mistake aside and clearly outclassed his teammate.

1. Gasly. Well deserved 5th
2. Vettel. How did he get that Aston Martin to finish 6th?!

Vettel: 6th in an Aston Martin which still isn’t optimal despite messing up an overtake and losing time. Scored more points in one race than the team have all season

Zhou Guanyu: Destroyed Bottas all weekend and may have taken some points until he became another victim of the Ferrari power train

HM: AlphaTauri: After a difficult start to the year this was easily their strongest weekend and only a rare DRS fault denied them a double top 6

1) Sebastien Vettel: Maybe assisted a bit by the retirements of the Ferraris, but aside from a spin that was recovered from quickly, he was on the ball this weekend.

2) Mercedes drivers: Despite the porpoising, they secured a hard-fought 3-4 on merit.

Gasly and Vettel were really the only ones finishing higher than you would reasonably expect.

1- Gasly- 5th place and finally looked on the pace all weekend which we haven't seen for a while

2- Vettel- 6th despite spinning! no wonder there is talk of Aston Martin bringing Schumacher in to replace Vettel because he is making the prodigal son look very bad at the moment!

1. Zhou. Walked away empty handed, but was looking quite talented out there.

2. Seb. Dragged that hunk of **** to 4th and bonded, gagged, pegged, and dominated his teammate who's supposed to be having a championship-winning team carved out form him specifically.

Sebastian Vettel

Completely outclassed Stroll, was in 4th. Spun, only lost about ten seconds. Finished 6th.

Isn't that team supposed to be the Lance Stroll show?

I mean yeah Seb getting 6th is a great result but he botched a potential 4th or 5th place, really.

So I'll give it to Gasly.

I agree with Bat on this one.
Vettel would have had it easily, if he hadnt spun.
So I'd say that Gasly put in the best performance this weekend.
