Reject of the Race - Abby Dabby 2022

Post by Londoner »

1. Mick Schumacher. Bizzare and idiotic move on Latifi, illustrating exactly why he's been turfed out for Hulkenberg.

2. Valtteri Bottas. Utterly crushed by Zhou all weekend, he should be worried about 2023.

Honourable mention to Mercedes, their race pace dropped off a cliff after five laps, unsafe release for Russell, and Hamilton's win and pole streaks ending in the most anticlimactic way possible.

Red Bull:
Pitting vs. not pitting late was a toss up, so I won't judge them for that. But they could've tried dropping Max onto Leclerc to block him? I get they told Checo they thought it'd only give Leclerc DRS, but with 2 laps to go, when it was kinda obvious he'd run out of time, surely it worth an attempt?

Aston Martin:
Screwing Seb's strategy on his last race.

Red Bull for screwing Perez out of P2 in the WDC
Aston Martin for screwing Vettel out of points on his last race

DHM: Hamilton's gearbox, for giving the team its first mechanical DNF of the season, 3 laps before the final chequered flag of the season.

Mick Schumacher: Ricciardo and Vettel had a nice last race, sadly that wasn't the case for Mick. And in a reminder of last year's infamous Grand Prix, the crash just had to be with Latifi again (also ending Nicholas' last race in disappointment).

Co-Award for Nicolas Latifi and Mick Schumacher - they are leaving F1 with a dud aka reject-like collision that even failed to trigger a SC to spice this boring race up. So that collision itself was rejectful.

Schumacher gets 5 sec. penalty and Latifi gets called into the pits two laps before the finish with 'damages'. Like Latifi could have just kept going and ignore those orders. It's not like they would fire him for that. A true punchbag finish to a punchbag-like F1 career for Latifi

HM: Mercedes for first mechanical DNF of the season three laps before it ended. That even eclipses what Alfa Romeo had in 2021 (no mechanical DNFs all season too until a double mechanical DNF in Abu Dhabi).

1) Mick Schumacher: Has hardly lit the world on fire all year, so a clumsy mistake at the end of the season sums up proceedings. The Mercedes reserve driver position is maybe better than he deserves.

2) Nicholas Latifi: As clumsy as Schumacher's mistake was, I think Latifi put himself in a position for it to happen. Another underwhelming driver who we won't be seeing at all next season in Formula One.

Mick Schumacher: And that is why you’ve been turfed out mate. Flashes of speed alone are not good enough at this level.

Mercedes: A massive reality check this weekend. Mexico and Brazil had circuits and conditions which hid their weaknesses. With no altitude and long straights here it was back to pre-Mexico form. Even worse their usually superior race pace was nowhere to be seen and then there was Russell’s unsafe release and a first mechanical retirement all year. 2023 can’t start soon enough

HM: Bottas: Zhou had the beating of him all weekend

HM: Vettel’s strategy: Denied him a chance at a top 7 and meant he needed Hamilton’s late issue to rescue a point

1- Mick Schumacher- Possibly not the way to react to being dropped- Clearly his fault but summed up his 2022 season didn't it

2 Red Bull - That call putting Perez on the 2-stop- cost him second in the driver's championship. max not moving over in Brazil made no difference in the end.

1. Mick. Way to go out on a high note - not. Fortunately for HAAS they're replacing you with an up and coming hot shot, oh no, hang on...the Hulk. What the hell are they doing in F1? (That's my HM).
2. Max. Greedy in Brazil and did nothing for his team mate today. What a contemptuous individual he is.

Schumi/Latifi looked so amateurish it was pure reject gold so has to be that, but biggest DHM is Mercedes - back to earth with a bang for them.

And yes, I was hoping Max would help Checo more than he did but the counter-argument is 15 wins in a season, that might never be done again!

1. Mick Schumacher: Not a good last race before taking a forced sabbatical. I somehow doubt we'll see young Mick back on the grid in the future.

Mick and Latifi for the most absurd and pointless nonsense in the entire race.

Mercedes, had a feeling the last couple of races or so were false dawns, 2023 has no excuse for not being better.
