Tyrrell is open to negotiation for selling last seasons (b-tier) chassis to certain teams - we feel that with the increasing cost of the sport, some teams who have been sensible and correct with their actions yet victim to factors outwith their control (i.e Onyx RNG) should be assisted.

(P.s not always on discord so pm is likely the safest bet!)

Rial would like to confirm that we will be loaning the first year of Michael Bartels' contract, in return for first refusal on Subaru works status should (a) EuroBrun fail to make the 1991 grid or (b) EuroBrun choose not to retain Subaru works status into 1992.

To fill our now open seat, we will continue down our shortlist:

Happy to go ahead with that - and hence, we've hit our self-imposed limit of three customer teams.

We've also agreed a provisional deal to sell the BT59L chassis for £130k, so will wait for confirmation on that front.

Lastly, the ex-Benetton chassis that we've updated for '91 shall be known as the BT60B. The extra B is for bargain...er, Benetton.

Scrub-Era F1: 1990 - Driver RNG the Second

Post by Aislabie »

It's time for Second RNG! This shouldn't take too long as there's only 10 seats to sort out

First of all, Nigel Mansell He asked Williams to please pay him his salary this year. They have agreed, on the proviso that they pay half now and half at the end of the season:
1-75 - "Thank you Frank, I really appreciate it"
76-100 - "No Frank, I meant right now"

48 - The formalities are sorted and the Red Five agrees terms for another year at Williams

-

Next, Osella have approached Geoff Brabham. They've asked him to please bring £250,000 if he could be so kind.

And with the blessing of the RNGods, he brings exactly that amount (£250,000).

-

Rial, fresh off farming out Michael Bartels, have approached Emanuele Naspetti for their seat. The reserve price is 400k.

But Naspetti is only Tier B.

-

Pemex have also approached an Italian driver: Antonio Tamburini. They'd like him to bring 300k.

Unfortunately he won't be doing that this year (£155,000).

-

Yet another Italian on people's lists: Andrea Montermini. EuroBrun have asked him for £360,000.

Not today, he's Tier B.

-

Project Four have approached three-time World Champion Nelson Piquet. The 38-year-old was paid a £1,000,000 by Ferrari last year, even though he had to take them to court for some of it. FP4 are offering him a 60% pay cut, but it is a Formula One drive and if he doesn't get this one, he may never get another go at it:
1-40 - Accepts the pay cut to get a drive
41-80 - Decides to wait and see if anyone offers him a better drive more money once the season starts
81-100 - Realising that his star has waned, he retires from F1 on the spot

16 - Nelson Piquet returns to F1

-

Paul Warwick agrees to sign for Jordan, bringing £230,000. For reasons he can't quite explain, he's very relieved not to be driving in British F3000.

===================

After this, there were a bunch of attempts to try to get drivers to pay a reserve price. I'm going to shorten that, even though it was very funny at the time.

Escuderia Pemex had reserve prices of £300,000 (apart from Guerrerro):
  • Naoki Hattori brought only £214,000.
  • Jean-Marc Gounon brought only £287,000
  • Marco Greco was only Tier C
  • Carlos Guerrerro brought only £240,000
When suddenly...

Masahiro Kageyama came to the table with £317,000 stuffed into his briefcase. He got the seat.

-

EuroBrun wanted even more: £360,000 for their seat.
  • Jean-Marc Gounon has already been mentioned.
  • Claudio Langes was only Tier B
  • John Jones was only Tier C
  • Roberto Calciago was only Tier C
We will be returning to EuroBrun in a moment.

-

Rial wanted £400,000 for a seat they'd already filled once before they farmed Michael Bartels out to EuroBrun. (I just wanted someone less boring).
  • Otto Rensing was only Tier C
  • Jorg Muller was only Tier C
  • Wolfgang Kaufman was only Tier C
  • Marco Werner was only Tier B

at this point, one began to wonder whether Rial had over-valued their seat
  • "John Winter" was only Tier C
  • Fritz Kreutzpointner was only Tier B
  • Vittorio Zoboli was only Tier C
  • George Fouché brought only £370,000 - Not enough to meet Rial's reserve price, but EuroBrun snapped him up.
  • Mercedes Stermitz was only Tier C
  • and Michael Krumm brought only £274,000
As mentioned, EuroBrun signed George Fouché, while Rial decided to reapproach Fritz Kreutzpointner with a bit more of a can-do attitude.

Fritz Kreutzpointner brings £210,000.

=======================

Finally, there are two auto-picks to deal with at Leyton House (I hope all is well with you Takagi, and you've just been Christmassing to the fullest).

Their first driver will be 1990 driver Eric Bernard; RNGesus blesses him with £125,000 of pay driver money.

Their second driver will be former Arrows driver Hitoshi Ogawa; RNGesus blesses him with £130,000 of pay driver money.

=======================

This concludes driver RNGs for now, although I'm sure there'll be plenty of in-season moving and shaking. In particular, Jean-Marc Gounon may just have made himself a transfer target for some teams.

Details of Car-NG are coming shortly.

Reputable News Association wrote:"Congratulations to Carlos Guerrero on his Formula One drive" - Pemex

Carlos Guerrero recently won Mexican Formula Three.

Formula One team sponsors Pemex have today put out a statement congratulating young Mexican driver Carlos Guerrero on getting a Formula One drive in 1991. Their statement (translated from the original Spanish) reads:
"We would like to congratulate Carlos Guerrero on his promotion to Formula One with Escuderia Pemex, the national team of Mexico. We look forward to seeing him race in person in Mexico City!"
This comes contrary to recent reports that the team had signed Christian Fittipaldi and Masahiko Kageyama as their racing drivers for 1991. More details to follow as they become available.

Scrub-Era F1: 1991 - Chassis, Engines and Tyres

Post by Aislabie »

Build Your Cars!

Now that you've all got your sponsors and drivers, your bank accounts are all above zero! This is great news! Now it's time to drain them in service of the following rules:
Chassis
- Teams can either build a new chassis for 1990, or update their 1989 chassis for the new season.
- Should a team choose to buy a customer chassis, they will earn World Constructors Championship prize money for that chassis.
- Chassis may be sold and traded from team to team, but may only be used if a team chooses to "Make It Your Own". If in doubt, check with Aislabie.
- (REVISED FOR 1991) - The "Make It Your Own", and "B-Spec Chassis" options refer to the original tier of the chassis, and not the purchase price or the cost of previous such upgrades. Customer chassis will also be assigned a nominal tier for this purpose.
- If you wish to upgrade your chassis in-season, you can invest in a B-Spec chassis, but only if you have the available funds. (This is in place of a race-by-race upgrade system.)

Engines
- All teams must buy an engine supply for the season.
- Teams which build their own engines have control over whether or not they sell their engines to customer teams.
- Should a team choose to change their engine supplier mid-season, they will have to buy a new full-season engine contract on top of the one they already have.
- (NEW FOR 1991) - If a factory team (such as Ferrari or Lamborghini) goes bankrupt, any teams being supplied with customer engines will be guaranteed their engine supply until the end of the season.

Tyres
- You will need tyres. Please budget for them.

Going Bankrupt
- Your team will go bankrupt if, at the end of the pre-season, you are unable to pay the FIA Entry Fees (which include travel costs). For a one-car team this is £300,000 and for a two-car team this is £500,000.
- Your team will also go bankrupt if they do not manage to build a car, consisting of adequate chassis, engine(s) and tyres, by the first race of the season.
This is also the point in the season where if you need to fire a driver without it counting towards your four-driver limit, or paying out a full season's wages (in the case of a salaried driver) - either to downsize to a one-car team or to make ends meet financially - you can make a request to do so. If you choose to fire a driver at this point, it will not count towards your four-driver limit, but it will mean that the driver will refuse to drive for your team again at any point in their career.

Ferrari will offer Ayrton Senna a slightly revised deal - payment race-by-race, except at 65k per race, amounting to a 4% increase on the lump sum previously offered. Should Senna refuse this, the original deal will stand.

Ayrton Senna has had Tom Walkinshaw on the phone. He has explained that FIAT has asked him to restructure the second year of Senna's contract for accounting purposes. In return for any inconvenience, Senna will get a little 4% pay rise:
1-50 - "Of course, so long as FIAT makes sure I get my money"
51-100 - "I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure I have a contract here"

9 - Clearly Senna buys into the Ferrari project.

What a result this is for the Maranello outfit

New for 1991: Protest procedure

Post by Aislabie »

Protest Procedure (NEW FOR 1991)
- If you wish to protest a perceived rule breakage to the FIA, you can do so using the PROTEST FORM.
- Protests are subject to an FIA Arbitration Fee of £10,000 in order to eliminate frivolous protests that would waste the authorities' time. This fee must be paid in order for a protest to be made, and a team cannot go into debt to pay it.
- The team lodging a protest has the option of suggesting possible means for redress as a part of their protest, although the FIA will not be bound by their suggestion.

===================

If you need to find the link to the protest form in the future, it can be found in the new "Protest Procedure" section of the rules in the index post.

CHASSIS

Tier: A (Before aging)
Cost: 260k to make ready for 1991 + 225k to Mclaren for purchase

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

ENGINES:
Engine Choice 1: Ford Cosworth HBA5
Cost: 2 year deal - 500,000 per year
Additional Conditions: Tyrell were able to deliver on their 1990 promises to Ford both fiancially and by performance, only being denied top 3 status by a last race win by Ferrari. This is despite the likes of Benetton and Ferrari having deeper pockets and superior facilities, were kept in check by a more effecient Tyrrell Team. Due to this, Tyrrell would like to forge closer links with Ford and once again be their main customer team

Engine Choice 2: Ford Cosworth HBA4
Cost: 300,000 1 year deal
Additional Conditions: None - Tyrrells experience with the HBA4 in 1990 should stand us in good stead

TYRES
Tyre Supplier 1: Goodyear
Cost: 300,000
Additional considerations: Tyrrell have asked if Goodyear are able to confirm tyre superiority. Tyrrell have enjoyed a long association with Goodyear but are starting to question the value of their tyres compared to Pirelli - this is especially the case when so many competitors have switched to Pirelli and at this point only Tyrrell and Onyx plan to use Goodyears

Tyre Supplier 2: Pirelli
Cost: 200,000
Additional considerations: None

Firstly, due to the team's current funding situation and with the view of hopefully stretching its funding a little further, Coloni has decided to downsize to one car for the upcoming season. With this in mind, we return Gianni Morbidelli's money and we thank him for his trust and confidence, and wish him all the best in the future.
We likewise confirm and acknowledge receipt of Ferrari's £14.000 loan.
Under these circumstances, Coloni updates its funding and finds it has £710.000 for the season, minus £300.000 for the entry fees, leaving £410.000 to work with in this off season. This will be spent as follows:

CHASSIS
Coloni shall purchase the Lotus 102 for 40.000, as agreed with DigitDan, and spend 120.000 for the conversion into the Coloni C5.

ENGINE
Coloni has reached an agreement with Lamborghini and Ataxia, wherein Coloni shall procure a single engine at cost (150k) and provide an additional 10k as profit for Lamborghini at season's end.

TYRES
Coloni shall pay Pirelli 100.000 for a single car supplies' worth for the upcoming season.

Expenses: 100+160+150=410. Amount due: 17k to Ferrari after the off-season and 10k to Lamborghini at season's end.
DEPORTIVO CA... pfft hahaha can't say that with a straight face!
Misses Minardi dearly. :(

Following my Peter Collins' unmitigated cock-up regarding the other Lotus 102, we will release Enrico Bertaggia before the season opener. However, since he's at no fault, all 359k will be returned & he's guaranteed a drive for 1992 (contract to be negotiated later).

Ferrari has graciously extended Pemex another line of credit amounting to £117,000. The total amount owed to Ferrari by Pemex immediately after the end of pre-season is now £430,000.

With that in mind, Pemex releases Masahiko Kageyama from his contract with regret, and will proceed to refund all £317,000 of his sponsorship money. Pemex will correspondingly amend its entry, and file for the 1991 championship as a single-car outfit, centred around Christian Fittipaldi and the Lola; this decision was not made lightly, and was greatly influenced by the strident and vituperative opposition levied against Pemex by a malicious coalition of other teams. While Pemex was confident that its operational arrangements were in full compliance with FIA regulations, Pemex has nevertheless determined that it does not possess the requisite resources to be engaged in a protracted legal contest at this time.

FIXED:

Driver: Christian Fittipaldi
Chassis: Lola T91

The already-built MX91 will unfortunately be consigned to the Escuderia Pemex factory, displayed in a place of honour in the front atrium. Masahiko Kageyama will be fully refunded.

Pemex Budget at this phase (plus additional Ferrari loan): £550,000

Engine Choice 1: Ford HBA4
Cost: £150,000 (one engine)
Additional Conditions:

Tyre Supplier: Pirelli
Cost: £100,000

Final Pemex Budget: £300,000

Footwork Project Four will introduce a new evolution of our 1990 chassis, redesignated as the FP4/5D, and will approach the following engine suppliers for a partnership for the upcoming season:

1. Ferrari (037, £450000, pending approval, 1yr)
2. Ford (Cosworth HBA4, £300000, 1yr)

We also plan to continue our successful relationship with Pirelli as our tyre supplier into 1991

Scrub-Era F1: 1991 - Car-N-G!

This is quoted because it is the last post made before chassis, engine and tyre RNG happened on Discord. Anything posted after this will be dealt with later on.

===============

Let's do some Scrub Era RNGs. Now, there are some teams that haven't submitted their stuff yet. They'll still be able to do so, they just might find that some of the customer chassis and engines have become unavailable.

Let us start with Goodyear Tyres.

They have replied to Ken Tyrrell to reassure him that they are confident that they still offer the best available race tyre, regardless of the Pirelli's performance in qualifying. With that in mind, the following teams will procure Goodyear tyres:
  • Jagermeister Team Tyrrell
  • Onyx Goodyear Formula One Team
And that's the list. The bigwigs at Goodyear Towers must be a bit twitchy about receiving so little custom.

-

Next, the Pirellis go out to:
  • Camel McLaren Honda
  • Lamborghini Motor Racing Developments
  • Braun Arrows Grand Prix
  • Epson Team Lotus Isuzu
  • Leyton House Racing
  • Benetton Formula
  • West Scuderia Italia
  • Minardi Team Pirelli
  • Equipe Ligier Gitanes
  • Scuderia Ferrari FIAT
  • Lucchini Coloni Racing (1 car)
  • Porsche Zakspeed Racing
  • Elf Team AGS (1 car)
  • Escuderia Pemex (1 car)
  • EuroBrun Subaru
Pirelli are threatening to develop a real monopoly on the tyre market.

-

Their biggest competition comes from the newest supplier: Avon.

The British tyre manufacturer has been effectively just sending its F3000 tyres to F1 events, a plan which worked pretty well last year as they shod a Grand Prix winner - something that has persuaded them to enter the Tyre War properly this year.

These are their clients:
  • Osella Squadra Corse Lapidus
  • Venturi Racing (1 car)
  • PIAA Rial Racing
  • Escuderia Pemex (1 car)
  • Canon Monteverdi (1 car)
  • 7up Eddie Jordan Racing
Regardless though, everyone was guaranteed to get their chosen tyres so this was pretty much just setting the scene for the next bits.

---------------

Now for Engine RNGs

Alphabetically, the first available engine supply is the Ferrari 037, rumoured to be the most powerful engine on the market
So far, supply has been agreed to the following teams:
  • Scuderia Ferrari FIAT
  • Canon Monteverdi (1 car)
They have secured one customer deal, but it looks like all three customer teams from last year have turned their backs on Maranello.

-

Next, the ever reliable Ford HBA5, expected to be the most reliable engine supply available. They have reached a new deal with Jagermeister Team Tyrrell to continue a fruitful working relationship.

-

The Ford HBA4 is also available - used to great effect by Tyrrell last year, it is seen by many as the F1 engine supply owing in part to a history of being exactly that to 95% of the grid in the 70s. With no restrictions on supply, it's just about who is willing to pay for them. Those teams are:
  • Braun Arrows Grand Prix
  • Leyton House Racing
  • Minardi Team Pirelli
  • Elf Team AGS (1 car)
  • Escuderia Pemex (1 car)
  • 7up Eddie Jordan Racing
This is a much improved roster of customers from 1990, when Ford supplied customer engines to only Arrows and Minardi.

-

Next, the Honda RA109E goes to Camel McLaren as previously agreed.

-

A new engine has also come on the market: the Ilmor 2175A. They have agreed terms with the only party interested in Equipe Ligier Gitanes, the only team interested in their services.

-

The Isusu 835-91 will go to Lotus as previously agreed.

-

Now the patron engine of the cash-strapped prequalifier: the Judd GV. It's cheap and its going to:
  • Osella Squadra Corse Lapidus
  • Venturi Racing (1 car)
  • PIAA Rial Racing
  • Escuderia Pemex (1 car)
Honestly it's a decent all-rounder for its price point, and these teams will no doubt be satisfied with their supply.

-

Now for the Lamborghini 3512. Since they bought out what was left of Brabham to turn into a works Lambo outfit, the Italian luxury car manufacturer has sought to get its name up and down the grid by supplying customers.
These engines will be going to:
  • Lamborghini Motor Racing Developments (obviously)
  • Benetton Formula
  • West Scuderia Italia
  • Lucchini Coloni Racing (1 team)
  • Onyx Goodyear Formula One Team
This means Lamborghini will power nine cars, up 50% from the six they supplied last season. It's a stretch, but they had planned from the start to supply as many as eight cars this year.

-

The Porsche 3512 is next on our list. It goes out to the good folks at Porsche Zakspeed Racing, who definitely didn't need to be paid money to take it.

-

The Renault RS3, arguably the best engine in F1 at the moment, is currently available to only one team. That team is 🇬🇧 Marlboro Williams Renault.

-

The Subaru 1235 goes for another year to the good folks at 🇮🇹 EuroBrun Subaru.

-

And finally the Yamaha OX88B. Yeah no-one wants that. It's a piece of shite.

But it is still available to any of you late bidders!

---------------

And finally to the one we've all been waiting for: Chassis RNG.

This was a very long process on the #rejectsport channel, and I really don't have it in me to transcribe the salient points of about a four hour set of Discord logs. Instead, the key points were:
  • The Reynard 91F1 went to Scuderia Italia, who were paying for two cars as opposed to Eddie Jordan offering to pay for one.
  • Eddie Jordan then built one EJ01 chassis, leaving them with one chassis, but engines and tyres for two chassis.
  • Lucchini Coloni Racing bought a Lotus 102 to turn into their Coloni C5. This means that if Lotus want to make a second Lotus 102B then they'll need to eat some extra build cost.
  • The Arrows A12 bore a startling resemblance to the Spartec G71B after a poor RNG.
  • Escuderia Pemex bought a Lola T91. Escuderia Pemex also built the Pemex MX91, which is the absolute worst set of chassis rolls I have ever seen.
Here is the full breakdown of chassis rolls we've had so far:
Image

The final hard deadline for Williams to post their plans is now officially set at 10:00 GMT on Thursday 5th January 2023. Any further RNGs will happen after that time. This is also the deadline for other teams' shenanigans. Good luck!
