Rule Changes

Post by Klon »

This rule addition will become valid after the conclusion of the Argentine Grand Prix.

Old rule:
No team can build a new car that is more than 3 places in a base grip ranking below their previous year's World Constructors Championship position (e.g. the winners of last year's World Constructors Championship cannot possibly build any worse than the 4th-best car). Should this occur, the car will have additional base grip added as needed to move the team by raw performance into the nearest eligible position. The base grip added that way will be subtracted from any future upgrades or the base grip of the chassis of the following season after the conclusion of that season's car market.
New rule:
No team can build a new car that is more than 3 places in a base grip ranking below their previous year's World Constructors Championship position (e.g. the winners of last year's World Constructors Championship cannot possibly build any worse than the 4th-best car). Should this occur, the car will have additional base grip added as needed to move the team by raw performance into the nearest eligible position. The base grip added that way will be subtracted from any future upgrades or the base grip of the chassis of the following season after the conclusion of that season's car market. Should the additional base grip added exceed 1,000, the administration is entitled to subtract base grip from the current chassis in portions of 300 grip with two Grand Prix weekends notice until the substraction from future upgrades or the base grip of the following season is less than 900.
New rule:
If the administration determines that a significant number of drivers would be found discontent in the aforementioned system, it instead can once at any point within a period of 42 in-character months roll an RNG about whether all drivers refuse to perform the duties of their contract, i.e. racing drivers will not compete and sim drivers or driver coaches will not provide their bonus. Any RNG result is final, unless there is reasonable doubt about the quality of the RNG values and 5 or more users running a team in Alternate Formula One - Hydrogen Era request a reroll. Should that occur, the users running a team must democratically decide whether to accept the demands of the drivers or cancel the next Grand Prix weekend. After any such cancellation, the end-of-season prize money pool is reduced by €10,000,000 for each position from 1 to 5. After each Grand Prix weekend, an additional RNG is run on whether the refusal to perform the duty of their contract will be run.

f1rumours.net wrote:Mercedes-Benz to Withdraw From Formula One

Confirming earlier rumours, the Mercedes-Benz Group announced their intent to leave Formula One after the conclusion of the 2023 season in a press conference. This decision will bring to an end an uninterrupted run of almost three decades that saw the brand win five drivers and six constructors championships in that period.

"This decision was one of the hardest our motorsport division ever had to make," said a member of the board of management about the choice. Mercedes-Benz justified the choice to depart from Formula One with the "different paths that the development of the Formula One rules and our cooperate vision have taken."

One thing that not affected is AMG brand's sponsorship contract with Dawson Grand Prix, which is a separate agreement from the motor delivery contracts. The manufacturer intends to fully support the teams running Mercedes motors, McEwan AMG F1 Team and Dawson Grand Prix for the remainder of the year to "finish our legendary F1 chapter on the right note."

Asked about the future of the company in motorsport, the board of directors announced that the company is looking to focus mainly on its GT customer platforms. The company has "as of now" no interest in re-investing the significant expenses saved by the manufacturer leaving Formula One, given the "challenging times" for all industries.

f1rumours.net wrote:Terry Hawkin Provokes Speculation After "Random" Stoppage

During the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix, FAST driver Terry Hawkin was seen randomly stopping his car in the middle of the race for no apparent reason. While the team would confirm there was no technical issue, they have not mentioned any reason. Hawkin himself refused to comment on any type of question regarding the incident.

"I would say it's pure frustation," speculated Sky Deutschland expert Ralf Schumacher. The 2001 champion critised the former ARWS driver harshly: "While driving a horrible car is a miserable experience, and I can speak from my own year with Force India, that does not make what he did in any shape or form okay."

"It is very clear that Terry Hawkin wants back to #ARWS," posted former Formula One World Champion Guillaume Gauthier on his Twitter profile @GGauthier56. An anonymous source close to team owner Fernando Alonso has told f1rumours.net that Hawkin wanted to put pressure on his team to introduce new upgrades.
f1rumours.net wrote:Monaco Grand Prix to Become F1 Race Again?

One of the most famous street races on the planet, the Monaco Grand Prix has made plans to begin negotiations with FIA president Alekos Kalogeropoulos to re-join the Formula One calendar once its exclusive contract with the AutoReject World Series ends after the 2026 season.

The main reason for the increased interest by the principality to return to Formula One is the series's switch to hydrogen-powered electric motors. Many leaders in the country feel that it is not in the best interest of the country to promote itself with a racing series committed to internal combustion engines.

While Kalogeropoulos, based on his comments about "one of the most historic venues in sports", would most likely be aboard with a Monaco return, the commercial pressures would make such an agreement difficult. It is roughly estimated any new venue would need to bring around $45 million to earn a slot.

In accordance with this rule, the base grip of Red Bull will be reduced by 300 points beginning with the Canadian Grand Prix.
f1rumours.net wrote:Formula One SE Initial Public Offering Below Expectations

After the merger of the former Formula One Group companies and the FIA Formula Committee was delaying for a few months, the new commercial entity charged with sportive and commercial management of Formula One launched their stock at Euronext Paris on May 5, trading as Formula One Societates Europaeae (FOSE).

Underwriters had set the price at €22.50 per share; during the first trading day, that price rose, but only very modestly by the standards of first-day trading. Eventually, the FOSE stock ended its first day at a value of €24.96. Despite that, the new company still got itself a major financial boost, as the 180 million shares (equivalent to 30% of the company) sold earned the company a sum of 4.05 billion Euro.

Confirming rumours from 2022, the management of the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez confirmed in a press conference that it has signed a contract with FOSE to bring a second Formula One race to Argentina.

The contract is for eight years and will see the race happen in October, leaving the spring date for the Autódromo Roberto José Mouras, While financial matters were not addressed in the press conference, its annual payment to FOSE is speculated to amount to €45,000,000/year.

This signing is just the latest expansion of Formula One into the South American market, one of the key focuses of FOSE due to the political relationships of FIA president Alekos Kalogeropoulos; a return of the Brazilian Grand Prix is also considered imminent.
f1rumours.net wrote:FIA Announces Investigation into Cyprus Grand Prix

FIA president Alekos Kalogeropoulos announced that the last lap of the Cyprus Grand Prix will be "investigated by a special FIA commission". At the conclusion of the Grand Prix, a number of teams saw their drivers run out of energy. ROOKIE Racing, MRT and McEwan were among the teams affected.

According to a source within FOSE, both the leadership of the corporation and a number of Formula One team bosses are incensed at the scenes at the closing of the last Grand Prix before the IPO and should any responsibility be found within the teams or their suppliers, there would be "hell to pay" for the responsible entities.
The teams affected by the issues in the last race (McEwan, MRT, ROOKIE Racing, Sauber, Toyota) can choose whether to investigate for compensatory claims. There is a 20% chance of respectively the team or an outside entity being found at fault for the issue. Should the team be found at fault, it would receive a penalty ranging from a fine to a three-weekend race ban, should the outside entity be found to be at fault, the team would receive a compensatory payment ranging from €1,000,000 to €10,000,000. Please decide on whether you wish to investigate until May 24, 7:00 p.m. CEST.

Asked by Motorsport-Total.com about the embarrassing energy mismanagement at the Cyprus GP, which affected quite a few teams up and down the grid, Sauber Team Principal Andreas Seidl said: "It shouldn't happen, yes, but even in F1 most jobs are performed by humans and they can make mistakes. It's important to know why this happened, and every team will certainly investigate the cause in their special case, but I don't think we need to make a big political fuzz about it." Seidl added, "only if these sorts of things start to happen on a more regular basis is when we need the big guns".

In a short statement, Toyota Racing announced that it will not proceed with an investigation for its own team, however due to the loss of its race win, encourages ROOKIE Racing to file a protest - in the case of a monetary fine, Toyota Racing will pay it themselves.

As encouraging as it is seeing Toyota want to have ROOKIE Racing investigate, we would not be able to recuperate the losses in case there is a multi-weekend race ban. We will not proceed with the investigation.

In a press release, former managing director of SMP Racing Benjamin Durand and sports agent Andrew Pyrah as well as their financial backers, the US-based Legends Advocates Sports Group are looking to purchase a Formula 1 entry from one of the 13 current competing teams. The goal is to establish a "disruptive" team focused on connecting motorsport to youth culture.

The team calling itself LKY SUNZ (from "lucky sun") has confirmed that it has backers from Asia as well and is looking long-term to build facilities in Asia. While the press release did not confirm whether negotiations with any team have already begun, it is well-known in the paddock that at least two teams, one of which includes Dawson Grand Prix, are up for sale.

In particular Toyota's AI-based energy consumption estimates were thrown awry, affecting all Toyota customer teams.

Ahead of the return of the circuit to the Formula One calendar, it has been announced that former ARWS champion Nathanael Spencer will feature as a special guest of the event and will show the checkered flag for the winner.

The Brit who won the 2011 world title and last raced in 2019, will also participate in a special Q&A session for VIP ticket holders and partner with current Formula 1 drivers in charity events at local schools.

First off a less-urgent announcement: the mid-season tests will take place ahead of the 11th (French) and 16th (Singapore) Grand Prix of the season.^

During the season, teams can apply upgrades at any point once their upgrade schedule is complete. All teams except Ferrari and ROOKIE Racing (who are respectively not yet at the next race of their upgrade schedule and at Race 2 of their upgrade schedule, i.e. can apply for an upgrade for €6,000,000 that would provide 0-180 grip points) are now in the New Chassis Phase. The new chassis is rolled only at request. This new chassis will be rolled in the same manner as the original one and cannot have a lower base grip than the original one (including any previously applied upgrades). Should the new chassis have a lower base grip as result of RNG, as many points of base grip are added as is needed plus another 20 grip points. A team can decide withhold the new chassis for 4 more Grand Prix weekends, but the grip range of and the price of the upgrade remain unchanged.

Please respond with your intent to extend the new chassis period or build a new chassis until August 8, 4:45 p.m. CEST.

Audi Works Team

Post by Klon »

As has been previously established, Audi will enter Formula 1 (just like in real life, except earlier) in 2024. Obviously, both by the regulations of this game and the narrative logic, it needs a works team. As I had multiple users already request works teams, I have decided to open an application process which will decide the future Audi works team based on a fair RNG. All users currently running a team in current Alt-F1 are permitted to apply with, for obvious reasons, the exception of aislabie and Klon (should a user take over control of Dawson GP, removing me from the placeholder position of running the team, they'd be permitted to apply, however). Users already running a works team can also apply if they can find a user from a customer team to agree to switch spots with them (i.e. the user of the customer team takes control of the current works team and hands over control of his current customer team to the other user).

The RNG odds will be based on the following (while not weighed equally, they are not in order of relevance):
+ The previous accomplishments of the user in Alt-F1, in particular their understanding of the game mechanics.
+ The (perceived) reliability of the user in question
+ The sporting situation of the team in question, both in short- and long-term perspective.
+ The ability of the team to sign a German driver, i.e. the contract situation and the required expenditure to break contracts should that prove necessary.
+ The ability to rename the team to a variation of "Audi Sport F1 Team" with an appropriate change of constructor designation. Based on the real-life Formula 1 grid and other storyline considerations, the following teams are permitted to change the name of the constructor if they are designated the Audi works team:
Dawson (if run by a new user)
FAST
Loonmotor
ROOKIE Racing
Sauber

If you are interested in running the Audi works team, please drop a short one-liner about why are you suitable to do so in this thread until the start of the Grand Prix weekend in which the motor development phase begins or until September 6, 2023, whichever arrives first.

f1rumours.net wrote:George Russell Criticizes Calendar Planning

In an interview with ESPN, current McEwan driver George Russell talked about the difficult season he experienced, his arrival in Formula One and the state of the series.

He praised his teammate Dean Stoneman, who "is an inspiration to us all", with helping him learn a lot and at a rapid pace. He also stated that while he is unhappy with the results, he loves the "culture" at McEwan.

However, Russell was very critical with some of the calendar choices: he pointed out that it is very silly that a number of races happen during their respective countries' rainy season and doubts that "Spa in April is viable".
f1rumours.net wrote:Romain Grosjean Looking for Sauber Seat

According to a source close to Sauber team boss Andreas Seidl, the team's current reserve driver Romain Grosjean is lobbying with management of the Swiss team for a ride in 2024. While it is known that Charles Leclerc's contract has a two-year team option, this option is tied to a WCC position that Sauber is unlikely to achieve.

Given as Canadian media has reported that Jacques Villeneuve has already approached Leclerc for a multiple-year contract and Ferrari are looking at options in case Alessio Lorandi's recent improvement was just a mirage, it is generally expected that Leclerc will leave the Swiss team at the end of the 2023 season in search of a better ride.

I think I'm suitable to take on a works team role, as I'd like to think that I have been a pretty reliable team manager in Canon and non Canon series for the last two and a half years who is able to read and comprehend rules and is generally active on discord and the forums.

I'll throw my hat into the Audi ring as well. I would hope that my stewardship of Williams over the last couple of years has been good enough to qualify (I don't believe I've missed a single deadline in that time). We would be willing to incorporate a sub-brand into any of our own or our potential customer teams' efforts, such as Bentley.

According to an unnamed source in the to-be closed GT3 support company Audi Sport Customer Racing, there has been a change within the company. Markus Duesmann, the CEO of the manufacturer, is looking to fully invest in a Formula One team instead of purely establishing a simple motor supply deal.

The source said on the condition of anonymity that Audi have so far been unsuccessful in finding a profitable deal for their motor. Duesmann decided to double down on the company's commitment to F1, closing the GT3 branch to free up funds to buy either a stake or majority ownership in one of the active Formula One teams.

Motor Development + Team Owner Vote

Post by Klon »

Alright, it is now time to begin work on the hydrogen fuel cell motors for the 2024 season.

For that purpose, you send your testing team out for two testing days and have them work on one of four things: motor power, which is the base BHP output of the motor; qualifying mode, which describes how much quicker your motor can go if fuel consumption is raised to the maximum; car failure probability, which states how likely it is for your motor to blow up or adversely affect other parts of a car and motor mass, which is the weight of your motor and how it negatively affects cornering speed.

To see how that looks in detail, I have provided this handy graphic. To reflect previous design philosophies, teams were granted six levels based on their current motor - for Audi, the first levels were randomised:
Image

Basically, you can add two "levels" every Grand Prix from now on (except after the season finale, where you will be able to add four levels (we'll get to that after the Chinese Grand Prix)). Each test day costs €1,000,000. Regardless of how many test days you use, you must have at least Lv. 1 for every aspect before the beginning of next season.

You are free to write in-character reports on your testing prowess without any limitation except maybe common sense. Those in-character reports will not affect driver ability or future RNG odds.

------------------------

In a meeting, the GPDA decided to react to the poor stage of Formula 1 driver's wages and decided to demand the addition of the following agreement from the Formula One teams:

From 2024 onwards, a minimum driver wage of €4,000,000 is to be established for all drivers under contract with Formula 1 teams. Drivers who have won Formula 1 Grand(s) Prix in the past are entitled to a minimum wage of €6,000,000 upon signing a new contract. Every season, each team can mark one driver without Formula 1 experience for the Young Driver Exception, which would mean they would not be need to be paid the minimum wage for that season.

In response, the Formula One manufacturers have decided to meet up to select three team owners to engage in negotiations with the drivers in a public vote.

Works teams must fill out this formula

Code: Select all

pretend this is Lance Stroll
Perennial F1 backmarkers Dawson GP have "made progress in negotiations" according to recent reports, with Lawrence Stroll, shareholder of luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin, over ownership of their Formula 1 team. If negotiations succeed, this would mark the British marque's first foray into F1 since their early 1950s stint alongside Jaguar, where they won championships with the likes of Prince Bira and Tony Bettenhausen. Jaguar rejoined F1 without Aston Martin in 2000, where they floundered at the back as a big-budget flop. Naturally, Aston Martin will aim to avoid repeating Jaguar's fate.

With the news of a potential ownership change comes rumors of a potential new driver. Robin Frijns' contract is set to expire at the end of this season, and Lawrence Stroll's presence could see his son Lance, 2019 IndyCar Rookie of the Year, move away from the Aston Martin-sponsored IndyCar team into the vacant seat alongside Carlos Sainz Jr...
Team selections for the GPDA issue will come soon.
