Spartec lends both of its votes to Jonathan Palmer in line with Rover's intentions. Rover also strongly encourages all of its customer teams to do the same, as the Rover teams are strongest if we stick together.

Rikky Leiviska also lends his support to Dr Palmer, as he was unimpressed by Mansell's conduct on the track last year or Piquet's conduct off it.

Drive of the race: JE Voeckler - Lapped his team mate, was there at the right place at the right time to capitalise on Tyrrell's misfortunes. Only led the race for 100 metres.
Honourable mention: Marc Surer - Another day, another March point. This time, he held off Regazzoni, Patrese, Warwick, and Gauthier for the closing 15 laps to hold onto P6.
Reject of the race: Tyrrell reliability - On lap 75, Terrell had a 1-2. Jones and Rosberg then broke down, with Keke spluttering to a halt 100 metres from the line as JE Voeckler cooly drove by to take the chequered flag.

Renault "must succeed" in Formula 1
It has emerged that representatives from the French government have given state-owned Renault S.A. an ultimatum: compete for the world title in two years, or the plug will be pulled on the Formula 1 team.

Renault brought the first turbocharged engine to Formula 1 in 1977 and took the first victory for a turbocharged engine in 1979, but since then the team have only scored a further three victories. To add insult to injury, McLaren won the World Constructors championship last season with a customer Renault engine, and star French driver Alain Prost left the team for 1982 by opting for Williams.

It is no surprise that the French government want to avoid the nationalised automaker's name becoming synonymous with mediocrity. To some within the paddock, Renault is already synonymous with ominous clouds of white smoke.

It is unclear what will become of the Renault customer engine programme should the company withdraw from Formula 1.

Renault currently sit 5th in the WCC after three rounds, with Jean-Pierre Jarier scoring the best finish of second in Brazil.

RAM Racing to enter F1?
Silly season has begun early this year with rumours of a new team joining the F1 grid for 1983. RAM, headed by Mike Ralph and John Macdonald, have been looking to enter Formula 1 for the last five years. A previous attempt failed to attract the necessary funding, forcing the team to move to Formula 2, running March chassis. A trustworthy source has told this publication that Ted Toleman could be looking to sell up, given the lack of success of his own entry.
