Official 2024 Season Preview
2024 Formula One Season Preview - Diamonds
The development of fuel cell technology is driven to new heights by Formula One and ahead of the 2024 seasons, we have five manufacturers and thirteen teams creating masterpieces of engineering that shine bright like a diamond. Despite their amazing efforts, only one driver and constructor can win the coveted world championship. The 74th season of Formula One is set to produce major excitement. Who will come out on top in this breathtaking and amazing clash of man and machinery?
Rule Changes:
- The standard transmission produced by Ferrari has been replaced by a three-speed transmission produced by Bosch on a long-term contract.
- The practice sessions have been shortened to an hour.
- The starting times for qualifying and the race have been moved. The special starting time exemption for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has been formalized, allowing other Grands Prix to start around the time of sunset.
- If a car has less than the equivalent of half a lap of remaining energy while crossing the line or fails to do so because it ran out of energy, the driver is assigned a three-place grid penalty for the next Grand Prix.
- If a race is abandoned after at least four laps but no more than 33% of the scheduled distance has been ran, the points awarded are divided by five instead of two.

Lead Designer Market Phase + Sponsor Market Phase
Since all teams already have their aero departments staffed and the "hiring personnel for the season afterwards" mechanic is gone the budget of all teams has been reduced in accordance with rule §8.6 by €100,000,000.
Budgets ahead of the Lead Designer Market Phase:
+ Andretti (miguel98) - €39,000,000
+ Aston Martin (Forti) - €70,000,000
+ Audi (Hermann) - €53,000,000
+ Caterham (kevinbotz) - €186,500,000
+ DARE (Salamander) - €70,000,000
+ Ferrari (Pasta) - €114,500,000
+ Loonmotor (frogfoot) - €43,500,000
+ McEwan (aislabie) - €48,000,000
+ MRT (CaptainGetz) - €70,000,000
+ Red Bull (pinkd56) - €85,000,000
+ ROOKIE Racing (RealRacingRoots) - €101,000,000
+ Toyota (Reject_Dom) - €81,500,000
+ Williams (Gertrand Bachot) - €91,500,000
--------------------------------------------
Lead Designer Market Phase rules: here
What do I need to know?
Lead designers can only be hired now. A lead designer will apply a multiplier to your final grip. Any unemployed lead designer can be signed by a team with the team chosen by the designer decided by a RNG with the odds based on the following table:
The "rank" is determined by the following formula: last year's World Constructors Championship position/seasons of the contract offer
For Aston Martin and DARE, "last year's WCC position" is 15th.
Lead designers can be signed for up to 10 seasons and cannot be sacked during an active contract. Every 2nd season, their performance is randomly modified by the administration. The contract price is not adjusted after the performance modification.
--------------------------------------------
Sponsor Market Phase rules: here
What do I need to know? (Part 1)
Only customer teams need to read this part, works teams can skip to the second part
At the start of each season, you get to pick a technical partner and a title sponsor. The technical partner will provide a benefit and either €60,000,000 (if a team finished 10th or lower last season), €40,000,000 (5th-9th last season and salamander + forti) or €20,000,000 (1st-4th last season).
The title sponsor offers €15,000,000 if you hire a racing driver or four sim drivers from the chosen target region for the season. The target regions are found in the spreadsheet. If there is something unclear, just ask me what region applies to which driver.
Sponsors are picked in the following order:
a) Teams picking sponsors they had last season (only relevant for title sponsors this year)
b) New users
c) Reverse WCC order
What do I need to know? (Part 1)
Only works teams need to read this part, customer teams can skip to the end
Works team can request manufacturer support if they have an open racing driver slot and finished 5th or lower in the WCC last season. Picking that option means you get €70,000,000, but can't make any offers during the driver market phase and must hire a driver for a contract of €12,500,000/year for three years. That driver cannot be fired or demoted. As long as you have that driver under contract you cannot ask for manufacturer support again.
Link in case table does not work properly for you. Please ignore the "Current Sponsors" tab, it is only there as a memory aid for me.

After reading through that, you will now be asked to fill out the following until October 9, 8:30 p.m. CET. Feel free to contact me if anything is unclear!:

Re: Alternate F1 - The Hydrogen Era - 2024 Season
User: GetzAutosport wrote:Restructuring of leadership at MRT
Over the off-season there has been a major shuffle in leadership at Melrose Racing Team (MRT) that finished last week. Notably the founder and team manager Daniel Melrose announced on social media that he will move to an advisory role in the team. The team announced the departure of Pierre Depault as team principal, replacing him with BMW's Head of Racing Operations, Mike Krack for the 2024 season. "I am honored to be made Team Principal for MRT. I plan to make the most of this position and I am already making good partnerships within the team."
Melrose declined any requests for comment, though the icy reception with staff at the Chinese Grand Prix suggests a less-than-warm atmosphere at the team during this transition.
Rumors persist of a potential buy-out of MRT starting next season, although the team has been very quiet on any potential buyers, including a potential conversion into a full BMW works outfit. The appointing of Krack as Team Principal suggests further involvement by the car manufacturer in any case.

I don't think that should be a problem, but I will still need a "proper" title sponsor picked.

It has been announced earlier this week that former Toyota F1 driver Kazuki Nakajima will be taking over the factory team's F1 effort starting with the 2024 season. The 39-year-old, who departed from Formula One after the 2021 season finale in China, will replace Hisatake Murata as team principal. Murata himself has stated that his long and successful partnership with Toyota and will continue as he moves to a special advisory role within Toyota's global motorsports programme.
Under Murata's leadership, Toyota has become a strong engine supplier following their return after a decade-long absence in 2020, with a championship title with Artem Markelov (BR Mansell - since bought out by ROOKIE Racing) in 2021. The factory team, who initially struggled with their chassis development, finished fifth in the World Constructors' Championship in 2023 (having finished 9th, 8th and 7th in 2020-22), their best result so far in the current era. It is yet to be seen how the change of team principal will affect things, but Kazuki Nakajima has told the press that it is in the best interests of Toyota to continue the upwards trajectory.

+ Williams (Gertrand Bachot) - €106,500,000
--------------------------------------------
Motor Market Phase rules: here
What do I need to know?
Each team that is not a works team must sign a motor contract with a works team. The motor contract must state the motor price and the duration of the contract in full seasons. Works teams have an infinite motor contract with themselves for a motor price of €0. The maximum motor price is €50,000,000. The maximum contract length of a motor contract is 15 years.
You can add clauses as you see fit. You can change the price using a clause, but bonus payments are not permitted. All motor deals must be confirmed by the user running the works team. Each engine can be used at most by five teams.

Driver Market Phase rules: here
What do I need to know? (Part 1)
A lot. Each team must employ two racing drivers and can employ up to six sim testers. The sim testers do not provide any direct benefit, but can be used as reserves, to fulfil sponsorship obligations and to gain superlicenses. In the rules, you find the requirements for racing drivers and sim testers which are too long to explain shortly, but if you are unsure whether a driver would qualify for a superlicense, you can go ahead and ask me. For sim testers, it's a bit more simple: they must either be between 16-24 years old on January 1, 2024 or eligible for a superlicense You can use both real and fictional drivers. Fictional drivers must have their owner agree to the deal, real drivers are decided by RNG.
You can make as many offers as you want, an offer must have the contract length (up to six years), the annual wage(s) and can have additional clauses. Minimum wage for an experienced F1 driver is €4,000,000, for a race winner €6,000,000. Rookies are only able to be signed as racing drivers with a two-year rookie contract worth €1,000,000 that will pay out additional money if your team improves in the WCC in this season. Sim drivers, regardless of whether they have F1 experience or not, have a minimum wage of €2,000,000. Financial bonuses of any kind are not permitted.

DARE Announces 3-year Partnership with Audi
Driver bids will be posted at a later date - meanwhile, these are the engine contract details between DARE and Audi.Rejectsport wrote:DARE Announces 3-year Partnership with Audi
Today, a joint press conference was held between DARE Team Principal James James Davies, Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo, as well as representatives of Audi's nascent Formula 1 effort. The question of the powerplant for the Renault quasi-works team has been the subject of much rumours and discussion in Formula One circles - certainly, there was speculation that DARE would attempt to secure Ferrari power, owing to Davies' storied success with the Italian marque. Other rumours pointed the impending collaboration with Toyota, whom Davies drove for in their debut season, back in 2020 - a year which quickly turned into something of a farewell tour for the Welshman. The partnership certainly took some members of the press corps by surprise, leading to the following quote by Davies himself:
"I'm confident in saying we did our due diligence in determining which was the right engine partner for us, going forward. We've had productive conversations with multiple manufacturers, but I have to say, I was most impressed by the progress Audi have made already, and will surely continue to make in the future. I have high hopes for our partnership - I daresay we might turn some heads sooner than you'd think."
When pressed on the usage of another OEM's engine in the back of a car funded by the Renault Group, Luca de Meo answered thusly:
"Certainly, the goal for us is to have an Alpine engine powering a DARE chassis, to many victories and championships. However, I am afraid we cannot give a concrete answer as to when that might be. Developing a competitive engine programme takes time and effort, as I'm sure our friends in Audi will tell you. The process also requires working with the FIA, and the existing teams, to ensure the situation is correct for an additional manufacturer to enter the sport - we are certainly working on this, but will take time. Not to mention, it was not so long ago that Renault supplied engines in Formula One, only to abruptly pull out - it is incumbent upon us to prove that this will not happen again."
With silly season in full swing, as well, the question of drivers for the two open DARE seats remains rife - though both Davies and de Meo declined to comment. Insiders have connected the team with Frenchman Esteban Ocon, with whom DARE's predecessor FAST won their one and only Grand Prix in 2021, en route to a 4th place finish in the Drivers' Championship that year. Rumours also suggest they are attempting to lure Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne back to the sport - a former Grand Prix winner as well, Vandoorne found himself out of F1 following the collapse of Haas at the end of 2019.

Re: Alternate F1 - The Hydrogen Era - 2024 Season
Clever one, aren't we?
You accidentally came upon a loophole of the rookie-level contract rules. Promoted sim drivers keep their active contract instead of getting a new rookie-level contract, so Piastri is still on the final season of his €3,000,000/year contract you opted into. With that in mind, we will have the first rule change of the new season to account for this fact, which will become active after the Bahrain Grand Prix.Forti wrote: ↑11 Oct 2024, 02:42Driver: Oscar Piastri

If it does so, the team may match any accepted contract offer in the Driver Market Phase to retain the services of the driver. A contract offer is considered matched if it has the same total wage, a contract duration equal or shorter than the original offer and the same clauses in accordance with §15.11, unless the team owner representation declares the clause too team-specific to be matched.
15.16) After the second season of the entry-level contract or the final season of a contract during which a driver started his first race in Alternate Formula One - Hydrogen Era, a team may offer the driver a one-year contract with the minimum wage as defined in §15.9 and §15.10 ahead of the Driver Market Phase of the following season. If it does so, the team may match any accepted contract offer from a different team in the Driver Market Phase to retain the services of the driver. If the driver has already substituted for a Racing Driver as per the 'Official reserve driver' clause, the new contract will be for a Racing Driver role for 2 years for €4,000,000 per year (€6,000,000 should the driver have won a Formula One Grand Prix) - otherwise, the new contract will be an entry-level contract as defined by the FIA. The new contract will carry over the 'Full no-move' clause as stipulated in this contract, unless modified or abolished by agreement between both driver and team.
(Yes, I am aware that applying these clauses to my own DEC, who I'm only employing in a Sim Driver role, looks absolutely insane, but please trust me when I say it is all in service of The Narrative™)
Bid 1:
Driver: Esteban Ocon
Status: Racing Driver
Wage Contract Year #1: €6,000,000
Wage Contract Year #2: €6,000,000
Additional Clauses:
Extension clause: Can be triggered at any time before the halfway point of the season during contract year 2 - driver and team must both agree. Contract extension will be 2 years for €8,000,000 per year, and will remain subject to all other clauses as stipulated within this contract.
Full no-move clause: This contract may not be traded to any team, or terminated, without the driver's express permission, excepting in case of severe personal misconduct that damages the reputation of the team. In the event of such a case, whether or not the incident constitutes "damage to the reputation of the team" will be subject to the determination of the Team Owner Representation board.

Team Owner Representation rules: here
What do I need to know?
You can vote for up to three users that will represent your interests in various aspects. Please consider while voting that this role is best suited to active users who are good at reading and understanding rules.
--------------------------------------------
Car Development Phase rules: here
What do I need to know?
Basically, in this phase you hire aerodynamicists to build your chassis. A chassis consists of five parts. You can pick how to assign your aerodynamicists to five parts of your chassis: the front wing, the monocoque, the engine cover, ground effects and the rear wing. In the interest of fairness, the staff you (or your predecessors) paid for last season will remain active and need not be paid for again. Here is a list of the staff the teams already have.
Andretti - 55
Aston Martin - 42
Audi - 56
Caterham - 61
DARE - 61
Ferrari - 61
Loonmotor - 60
McEwan - 60
MRT - 53
Red Bull - 61
Rookie Racing - 58
Toyota - 53
Williams - 61
If you wish, you can hire additional staff for up to 16 staffers per part. A staffer costs €2,000,000 in wage per year and increases your floor by 200 points and the reliability of your car by a small bit. You can then choose your design philosophy: conservative (three RNG rolls, the median value is used to determine the base grip of the part) or aggressive (one RNG roll, the value plus twenty-five (25) is used to determine the base grip of the part).
After this step, your budget must be €0 or higher!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After reading through that and the rules, you will now be asked to fill out the following until November 3, 8:45 p.m. CET. Feel free to contact me if anything is unclear!:
+ Andretti (miguel98) - €64,000,000
Car Development Phase rules: here
What do I need to know?
Basically, in this phase you hire aerodynamicists to build your chassis. A chassis consists of five parts. You can pick how to assign your aerodynamicists to five parts of your chassis: the front wing, the monocoque, the engine cover, ground effects and the rear wing. In the interest of fairness, the staff you (or your predecessors) paid for last season will remain active and need not be paid for again. Here is a list of the staff the teams already have.
Andretti - 55
Aston Martin - 42
Audi - 56
Caterham - 61
DARE - 61
Ferrari - 61
Loonmotor - 60
McEwan - 60
MRT - 53
Red Bull - 61
Rookie Racing - 58
Toyota - 53
Williams - 61
If you wish, you can hire additional staff for up to 16 staffers per part. A staffer costs €2,000,000 in wage per year and increases your floor by 200 points and the reliability of your car by a small bit. You can then choose your design philosophy: conservative (three RNG rolls, the median value is used to determine the base grip of the part) or aggressive (one RNG roll, the value plus twenty-five (25) is used to determine the base grip of the part).
After this step, your budget must be €0 or higher!
After reading through that and the rules, you will now be asked to fill out the following until November 3, 8:45 p.m. CET. Feel free to contact me if anything is unclear!:
A press conference today held by Formula One newcomers DARE saw the formation of their new young drivers' academy - the Davies-Alpine Rookie Team, or DART. At the conference, the inaugural member of DART was revealed to be 20-year old Brit Lauren Kendrick - whom JJD fans may recall impacted the 4-time World Champion's successful 2013 bid by landing him in legal troubles, stemming from her claims that he was her biological father. When questioned on their history, Davies brushed the subject aside, stating only that the court case was "ancient history" to him, before heavily praising Kendrick's work ethic and skill.
Kendrick's comments were more substantive, albeit just as brief, as she said:Davies on why he felt Kendrick was the right choice:This will be the very last time I will speak on this subject, so I will say this clearly for the record. Regardless of what was said and done in the past, I, and my family, are categorically certain that James is not my biological father.Kendrick's recent career has seen quite a few stumbles - she attempted to break out internationally in 2020 in AR2.0, only for the insolvency of AutoReject to scupper her entire season. She managed to get on the FIA European Formula 3 grid for 2021, scoring 19 points and finishing 14th in the standings for ART Grand Prix, before finding herself competing in the GTC World Cup for Racing Team Sibir. Last season, Kendrick was unable to find a regular drive, and was forced to settle for following the TOCA tour through the UK, with occasional starts in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, scoring a win at Knockhill, as well as competing in the BTCC events on the Brands Hatch GP circuit - winning 2 out of 3 races.I think in general, over the past few years, there are a lot of young drivers that have slipped through the cracks and not gotten the opportunities they deserve. When we started working on forming DART, our number one goal was identifying exactly that type of driver - to find the talent that the paddock has ignored and forgotten. And every time we compiled a list of our ideal candidates to develop, Lauren was always at the top of the list. She has an undeniable talent, a daring ferocity on the track that nobody else we considered could match. She has the drive, determination, and sheer force of will to become a World Champion - there's not a doubt in my mind about that.
Rejectsport wrote:Davies v Melrose, Chapter the Millionth
Yet another chapter in the storied rivalry between fellow 4-time World Drivers' Champions James James Davies and Daniel Melrose was opened yesterday, as it has been revealed that DARE, run by Davies, has officially filed for copyright infringement on one of their driver contract offers, against Melrose's own MRT. How exactly the infringement took place is unclear, but it is known that the contracts are privately viewable between the teams, as they are submitted to the FIA's Contract Recognitions Board.
In the filing, DARE alleges that MRT knowingly infringed upon a contract clause they used in two of their driver offers, stating 'the evidence is clear and incontrovertible', and displays, 'clear and wilful disregard for DARE's intellectual property'. Whether or not driver contract offers constitute infringeable content under protection of copyright law is an open discussion, especially in different countries. The filing has been made in France, where both DARE and the FIA are officially headquartered, and French copyright law - at a glance - would seem to favour DARE's case.
DARE has also released a statement on their social media accounts, detailing the outline of their case. In it, Davies goes on record to call out Melrose's "chronic unprofessionalism" and "crippling jealousy" - though it is also worth pointing out that Melrose was moved to an advisory role within his namesake team late last year, so it is questionable what personal role he may have played in the alleged incident, if any at all.
MRT are presently yet to comment.
