Re: BOSS GP
I apologise, I remember seeing a Boss GP clip on youtube from Zandvoort with about 900 Jos Vertappen Arrowses in it, went to look for series, only two visits before the series was cancelled.
The two sort of mashed in my memory.

Ascari aka Benetton B197, modified to replace Renault engine with Judd V10 and replace Renault gearbox with something else that I can't remember.

You'll find that the current teams are just as liable to do that with even relatively recent cars (Team Lotus, for example, turned up with a circa 2003 Toyota chassis to the Singapore GP painted in their livery, and Mercedes also have a show car painted in their colours that looks very similar to an early 2000's BAR). And that is before you look at Red Bull and their show cars, which often turns out to be a hybrid STR1 car combined with some contemporary aero parts to make it look roughly like that years Red Bull car.
That said, quite a few historic race cars are modified far beyond what was available to the teams at the time - I recall somebody asking on the F1Technical forums about how to modify a Benetton B194, and it seemed that he was adding a number of aero parts that would have been banned at the time due to the regulations. A number of those cars might have had the origial engines and transmissions stripped out too - Judd engines are fairly popular in modern conversions since they have far lower maintenance requirements, and the gearboxes are sometimes modified for easier maintenance too.
Martin Brundle, on watching a replay of Grosjean spinning:
"The problem with Grosjean is that he want to take a look back at the corner he's just exited"
"The problem with Grosjean is that he want to take a look back at the corner he's just exited"
Re: BOSS GP
from reading what the bossgp runners do is any carbon suspension parts are remade in steel for longer life and maintanence. Also the gearboxes again are changed for simpler semi auto ones most engine are dfv, hb or hart v8 or judd v10. Only the arrows run with either the original asiatech/peugeot v10 or hart v10 and only klass zwart runs a proper up to date cossie v10.
Fritz van erd with the tyrrell runs cossie v10 aswell but the older spec one there are quite a few d1 cars still about but don't run atm iirc the complete 95 simtek team is still for sale, andrea moda is still trying to shift his s921s and there are many many more just waiting for new owners

You wouldn't be the only one to have noticed. Every time I've seen a "Red Bull" doing some kind of demonstration, whether it's a middle-of-the-city job or David Coulthard shooting paintballs at Jeremy Clarkson, I've seen the narrowed opening on the airbox and thought "hang on, isn't that the V10 Toro Rosso that raced against all the V8s... and lost?"

I think you'll find that is a 2009 Red Bull. You can clearly see it's a 2009 car in the demo that David Coulthard did in Austin city centre and in the new Austin track, as well as the test that Tom Cruise did in Willow Springs.
Teams are not allowed to use cars newer than 2 years old for any promotional activities. Some teams, like McLaren, still use a 2008 car, as you can see in the car exchange thing between Tony Stewart and Lewis Hamilton in Watkins Glen and the demos that Jenson Button did in Moscow, Cardiff and other places.

I will look at these (and DC's paintball stunt, when I can find it again) very carefully. Now that I think of it, that incident where the nutter ran onto the track and was run over by Sébastien Buemi is another one to scrutinise.

Going by the design of the airbox, it seems like a RB1 with the nosecone of the beginning of the season's RB5 and the RB5's/RB6's rear wing.

In the Top Gear thing with the car shooting paintballs, Jeremy Clarkson's voiceover does say that it is a 2005 Red Bull. Also, it's from season 14 of Top Gear, which was broadcast in late 2009. The city centre demonstration runs tend to be with a 2009 car.

Re: BOSS GP
I found Ferrari to be the worst, at the Autosport International in 2010 they had what I think was an F2002 dressed up in the (then) current funky barcode livery, they appeared to have done next to nothing to it, even retaining the narrow rear wing endplates which immediately dates it to pre 2004.

Not yet. I think they want to be ready for the event at Red Bull Ring on May 11/12.

Re: BOSS GP
3 classes f1 cars in one gp2/indy/cart in another then pre 92 in the last one with wsn and pre 2000 f3000 cars
the F111 should be able to beat the Jag IF they actually do setup work at each track, have decent drivers in
Boss GP is bit of a weird series as if you read the rule book its pretty much a free for all any mods go only things not allowed are active suspension so in theory someone could fit a 2006 spec cossie v8 in the 20k rpm beast or a last of the v10s. Aero is pretty much a free for all so in theory a current F1 team could "sell a 2 year old car" then test various aero parts on it

Re: BOSS GP
Just watched a few youtube videos of this. It was cool to listen to all of the different engine noises and try to identify them before they got on screen.
Shame they can't make the trek to the states, but it's understandable.

LONG LIVE MARUSSIA
Things I was wrong about:
Kimi to Ferrari, Perez out of McLaren, Maldonado to Lotus, Kobash comes back, Gutierrez stays, Chilton stays, Boullier leaves Lotus.
I stream Ustream, we all scream for PRC.
