2010 Drivers Championship

Post by Pepys »

Based upon what we know now, who wins next year?

1. Hamilton -- quickest driver in the best car.
2. Alonso -- close second in a much improved Ferrari.
3. Button -- not quite as quick as Lewis but still fast.
4. Massa -- average driver in a great car.
5. Rosberg -- only an above-average driver in a car that falls slightly behind.
6. Vettel -- fantastically quick but the car isn't as good; Red Bull lost its chance.
7. Whomever else drives for Mercedes -- if it's Schum, back to the drawing board.
8. Webber -- pushes the hell out of a car that's ultimately no longer elite.

After this, I'm indifferent. I expect Williams to only be mediocre, along with Renault if they ultimately compete. Neither Toro Rosso nor Force India have promise and there's no evidence on the new teams.

We don't know the standard of any of the cars though.
Better than 'Tour in a suit case' Takagi.

Well that's not stopped bookmakers from giving odds...

Ex Arrows title sponsor Eurobet will give you...

7/2 on Hamilton
4/1 on Alonso
7/1 on Button, Massa or Vettel
13/1 on Webber (no chance then with his unlucky streak contining even here...)
15/1 Rosberg
26/1 Kubica
41/1 Barrichello or Heidfeld
51/1 Hulkenberg
101/1 Sutil, Trulli or Senna
126/1 Glock
151/1 Kvalainen...

Be interesting to see how well the McLaren or Ferrari run without Kers and to see if Williams use their Flywheel Kers..

Personally I would predict...

1 - Hamilton
2 - Alonso
3 - Button
4 - Rosberg
5 - Webber
6 - Massa
7 - Vettel
8 - Barrichello

My prediction is Vettel for title followed closely by Hamilton. Ferrari will fare better than 2009 but will still be behind the main contenders.

Im not making predictions until Renault and that 2nd Merc seat are settled.

Although 7/1 on Vettel is worth a shot. Alonso's 4/1 too if the Ferrari is competitive again (which it probably will be, as long as the "spaggetti culture" hasnt crept back in)

And yeah, really sucks to be Webber. Even the bookies are out to get him!

I'm sure it will be a epic fight between Ferrari and McLaren. Mercedes and Red Bull may also be a part of it, but I'm waiting for the first official tests.

I'll go for an epic Hamilton vs Alonso battle with Massa not far behind. I think a fully fit Webber could be worth a punt at 13/1. There's no reason why Red Bull can't produce another crumper, so he and Vettel could be in the mix too.
"will you stop him playing tennis then?", referring to Montoya's famous shoulder injury, to which Whitmarsh replied "well, it's very difficult to play tennis on a motorbike"

It's Hamilton versus Vettel, could go either way. Alonso leaves Ferrari after Hungary, because Massa is favoured. Rosberg closes in, especially after his first victory in Monaco, but by that time it's too late.

The car22 rule was only enforced in 2008 unfortunately and on the plus side no one will ever win the championship twice in a row.
Even better news is that most columns have lotus as having number 22. Which means we could well see a malaysian champ.
I will most certainly be betting something on them, may i suggest you all do too.

The 2010 Drivers Championship is not decided yet. We don't know how it will turn out. I always tend to make one prediction only per season. This year it was something to do with more nosecone changes than last year. I still haven't found out if my prediction actually was correct. The current favourite for becoming my prediction for next year is that Ferrari will perform better than this year, which is more points or more race victories.
"I don't think we should be used to finance (the manufacturers') R&D because they will produce that engine anyway" said Monisha Kaltenborn.
"You will never see a Mercedes using a Ferrari engine or the other way round."

Officially, usf1 have been assigned the magical number22. We may as well not even bother watching the season.

If he did go on and lift the WDC then I would stop doing F1 as 15 years of my life would have taught me nothing...

Remember that it's not just a 22 car, it's a 22 car driven by a Brit that beat a Brazilian at Interlagos.

...a few months later...

BBC Newscaster: Anthony Davidson has had himself crowned Formula One world champion after a late last-minute signing to US-F1 after Jonathan Summerton pulled out at the last minute. The surprisingly effective car drove had and fast in the latter part of the season to see off the challenge of Bruno Senna in the Campos MetaF1. This wraps up the championship with the Abu Dhabi round still to go. Meanwhile, the third legal proceedings of Jarno Trulli against Adrian Sutil fell through again, with the Judge having collapsed in his chair having died of an overdose of stupidity from the Italian. The Lotus driver is expected to not hold onto his seat next year, having been outclassed in every way by test driver Faruiz Fauzy, who replaced Kamui Kobayashi after a horror-shunt in Belgium.
