Well done, Emerson! That was a wonderful race for the whole team and our first victory!

As for overall standings - I think you've missed Andrea de Caesaris, as he has some points finishes...
To finish first, first you have to finish!

And what is Franchitti doing? :?

Seriously, I consider starting an Indy Lights series for 1997, to give guys like Franchitti (That came from F3, mind you) more experience.

Look at Scott Goodyear. I suspect mechanical problems for both.

Comptech Racing seems to like the number 7, with P7, P14 and P27 in qualifying.

Also (pleasantly) surprised about the pace of Team Menard and my avatar in particular so far this year. Interesting how much difference 10 inHg (about 0.3 bar in the metric system) can make.
I would think that the less fluent Menard-Buick V6 would suffer on especially street tracks to the quadcam V8's. The engine also made the car harder to set up, at least at Indy it did.

I think Jimmy Vassar will be charging up the field with that time, which I am certain is 5th fastest.

Hmmm... it's true Franchitti isn't doing well, but I've only brought him into the series 1 year ahead of schedule, and he was racing in the ITC in 1996 in real life..... Anyway if he keeps being this bad a might part him for a few races and let someone like Bryan Herta have a go....

Could I enter Herta for the 500?

The problem with Franchitti (As well as Magnussen) is that I categorized him as a former F3 driver. I gather that his skills weren't good enough. To be fair, the problem would have carried over to 1997, which is why I'm toying with the Indy Lights idea. This could give drivers like Franchitti a chance to improve themselves.

I'll allow guest entries of course, but only for those teams that have less than three full season entries. So unless you sack Franchitti, you can't run an additional car for Herta at the 500.

21. Pierluigi Martini (Payton/Coyne Racing) - 3pts.
22. Parker Johnstone (Comptech Racing) - 1pt.
=. Fredrik Ekblom (Tasman Motorsports) - 1pt.
=. Roberto Moreno (A.J. Foyt Enterprises) - 1pt.

A very close finish between Villeneuve and Unser, with JV having a slight edge over Little Al at the finish. Both men have now a good place at the front of the championship. A place Michael Andretti hasn't yet, after yet another unlucky race. Trouble throughout the race caused him to lose a lap. Worse yet, Michael hasn't scored any points this season, thus increasing his pressure for the next races at Long Beach, as well as the ovals in Phoenix and Nazareth.
To add further insult to injury with regards to Dario Franchitti's current performance: His team mate Kenny Bräck's done a surprisingly good race, earning a 3rd place in the process. This should solidify his position with Penske Racing, and calm down the increasingly impatient Roger Penske...

I see - sounds like a good idea. So I couldn't just switch between Herta and Franchitti in the 3rd car? Good to see Brack doing well.

Not a good race this time, but hopefully the performance will improve in the next races.

Eddie Cheever will be released in favor of Richie Hearn if Cheever fails to qualify for the next race.

Adrian still hold into the fight, but now, Andrea is making miles and learning about the car (with the benefit of the circuits) and even Carpentier has improved (so close, so far :? )

Our next weekend brings us to Phoenix International Raceway. The road to the Indianapolis 500 will really begin there, because only Nazareth will be on the team's list before the teams head for the brickyard. But first, free practice on Phoenix International Raceway:

41 Racin Gardner (Bettenhausen Racing)                23.334

Twenty drivers will fight for the remaining five spots in the Dura-Lube 200. Including all three drivers from Marlboro Team Penske. Is this a similar situation to the 1995 Indianapolis 500? In any case, drama is coming up.

What a bad race for Hogan Penske. We have to forget this ASAP and concentrate on next race.

That's a shame. But you won't have to do much over the course of the series. There won't be updates and such. Still, it's your decision. I guess some folks would like to sign Zanardi for their team ;)
