What if Honda built that X 32 engine for the 3L formula?

Someone would have gone insane trying to tune it. 32 cylinders, minimum 64 valves, carburettors... Recipe for mental breakdown.

Not sure if it's been asked before on this thread, but what if Nico Hulkenberg got the Team Enstone drive instead of Nick Heidfeld?

In 2011? He would have been inexperienced unlike Heidfeld so I guess he would have scored less points. He would undoubtedly have been right up there in Montreal.

the engine itself ran with 128 valves and would have been running carburettors and probably air cooled.

What if Prost Grand Prix weren't so damn patriotic and ran a mile when they saw those Peugeot engines coming?

The main reason why Prost had an awful 1998 was because of a poor balance/weight distribution in the car IIRC so keeping Mugen Honda engines might not have made any difference in pace and only 5 of their 19 retirements were down to the engine, so the engines wouldn't have made the car much more reliable, unless the Mugen Honda company manufactured other reliable components. With Jordan winning in 1999 with the engines and Prost improving that year I think they would have scored more podiums than the lone one at the Nurburgring.

Massive engine failure imminent. Once it goes down a cylinder it might start losing more cylinders before grenading with a puff of smoke.

It's impossible. Banning sponsorship in a market economy is retarded. Formula One would have either degenerated into a completely manufacturer-driven sport, or just gone out of business.

It would be an engine building contest between manufacturers. Expect Ford and GM to take F1 seriously if the sponsorships disappeared.

Hulk had already joined Sauber by then so it wouldn't have made much difference to where he drove but his stock would certainly have been 10 times higher

Inspired by the movie Rush, which I happened to watch yesterday (Great film, highly recommend it  ), I have one for you guys to digest:

What if Jacky Ickx had gotten the McLaren drive over James Hunt for the 1976 season?

They wouldn't have made Rush, leading you not to have ever come up with that thought and therefore creating a time paradox.

Ickx would only win one race, the one at the Nürburgring (he always performed well there) and was no threat to Lauda in the championship - no pun intended - hunt. Hunt would go to Williams instead and lose motivation quick. Instead, they would make a crappy movie in Belgium about the Ickx-Mass rivalry.

I think what was said in the movie was fairly accurate, Jacky Ickx would never have have won the championship with McLaren but with Hunt there was a chance.

Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps he could've inspired a whole host of drivers and by 2007 Lewis Hamilton would've been just another young star driver, which would've been nice as it would've meant the world was a better place.

Plenty of wins but the drivers would not have been consistant enough for a championship bid but they would have won the WCC.

Because he's the NASCAR equivalent of Andy Neate. He might've won 4 races, but those were all on restrictor plate tracks for DEI in the early 2000s. Who were by far the most dominant team on those types of tracks back then.

Hello everybody! I'm new here and sorry if any of these questions were asked before.
What if HH Frentzen had accepted challenge from Williams in 1994?
What if Stewart had bought Sauber out in 1996 instead of creating all new team?
What if Jos Verstappen had replaced Damon Hill after 1999 British GP?
What if Williams had chosen Junqueira instead of Button?
What if Pacific had renamed its constructor's name to Lotus in 1995?
What if Lion GP had been built?
What if Ferrari F92A's double floor had been as good on track as in wind tunnel?
What if Michele Alboreto had raced in Benetton in 1994?
What if Yuji Ide had been the World Champion in 2006?

In 2005 the Focus was becoming outdated (it was the 2004) compared to the Xsara and a case can be made that even the 307 and the Impreza had more speed by then. I guess Ford would've rolled with a Duval-Gardemeister line-up, leaving Roman Kresta without a seat. Duval would've scored podiums in the asphalt rounds (challenged for victories) and would've crashed remarkably less since he was familiar with the Focus and was confident in the team. The interesting though is who Citroen would've hired for 2005? Märtin? Then the WRC History changes. Sordo was too young then, still competing in JWRC and Pons (LOL) .. Sainz retired by the end of 2004.

In 2006, Ford go with Grönholm-Duval. This leaves Hirvonen probably forever without a factory drive post-2005 and without any victories. Duval would've certainly won more than once.
