Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2014 Brazil

Post by Shizuka »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for JEV's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Post your results until the 14th November

My nominations:
1. Piquet
2. Gutierrez

1. Kimi Räikkönen - could've finished 6th had it not been for that pit stop blunder (seriously, WTF was going on with the pitcrews today?)
2. Uhmm err... Hülk?

1. Nelson Piquet - What a lad.

2. Nico Hulkenberg - Managed to make the reverse strategy work.

1) It´s a tough call to me but I give this to Kimi Räikkönen on finishing 7th after it looked like he would be out from points. Also, he had great battles against Alonso and Button despite having older tyres.
2) Nico Hulkenberg: Managed to salvage 4 points with different strategy which I find a good performance considering that there were five other teams who were clearly faster than Force India.

Honorable Mention:
Jenson Button: Great race from Button too and I have hard time leaving him out but I´m bit more impressed on Räikkönen and Hulkenberg probably because they ended up bit better than what I expected while Button ended up "just" keeping the position he had. And yes, I understand that he didn´t really have much chance of getting any higher with Mercedes and Williams being so much faster but what can I say? I just generally find those who gain positions during the race doing "better" than those who keep their own spots no matter what that spot happens to be.

I was watching on mute (just as well from what everyone's been saying about the Sky commentary) so I have no idea what Piquet said but as I can't stand him anyway it doesn't really matter. So...

1) Hulkenberg
2) Raikkonen

1. Massa - despite Williams best attempts he still brought the car home in 3rd in front of his home fans, nicely done.
2. Button - outperformed the car all weekend

1)Esteban Gutiérrez: Guti made a miracle in quali and hold his ground until that dog of a car took him backwards again.

2)Felipe Massa: After a troublesome race, a podium finishing is a well deserved prize for him

Honorable mentions to Nelson Piquet (the pranks master gave us a visit), Kimi Raikkonen (finally a good race)

1) Räikkönen - Could have finished 6th had the pit crew not completely failed.
2) Gutierrez - Actually, he was faster than Sutil.

1) Hulkenberg. From outside the points to nick 8th. Great drive! He finally came alive in Brazil. A shame that F1 has other circuits on the calendar otherwise Hulk would be a prime candidate to a top spot.

2) Raikkonen. Won 3 places to score more points than his qualifying position was denouncing.

Just realised I hadn't voted so....

1. The Hulk (though given the grid penalty, why didn't FI put Perez on the same tyre strategy? It worked a treat for him in Austria when he had a similar grid penalty)

2. Kimi (I reckon without the pitstop delay, he might well have beaten Alonso which has only happened once this year at Spa, he'd have had more of a cushion)

Cause Sergio's weekend got screwed over when Juncadella became a moron in FP1, and he didn't have setup time, minus FP3.
