2016 Brazilian Grand Prix - IIDOTR

Post by DemocalypseNow »

For the millionth time, Max Verstappen win's F1's DOTD. Here instead is a chance to go for something else.

1. Sergio Perez - Impressed that he stood strong and never faltered. Maximised the tyre life to great effect.
2. Esteban Ocon - this is why he got the Force India drive instead of Wehrlein. A shame the tyres fell off the cliff at the end, but a great drive nonetheless.

1. Esteban Ocon - unfortunately didn't have anything to show for his efforts, but drove an assured race. He'll go far.

2. Felipe Nasr - despite all of the conjecture about his contractual situation for next season, he might just have secured Sauber enough cash to re-sign him.

1. Felipe Nasr - I didn't like it because I was supporting Manor for 10th in the WCC, but this was a great race and a great result.
2. Sergio Perez - It's almost not unexpected anymore, but Checo was once again the one to capitalize for Force India.

1. Felipe Nasr: Took Sauber's first points of the year and most likely ensured 10th in the constructors for them.
2. Max Verstappen: Another amazing drive from him.

Honorable mentions:
Esteban Ocon: So near yet so far...
Carlos Sainz, Jr.: Unrejectified!

Eh, I don't feel like being decisive.
Five points to Ocon for almost getting a point in the Manor.
Five points to Nasr for saving his team.
Five points to Verstappen, despite his mainstreamness.
And one point to Pérez for beating Hülkenberg at Interlagos.

1) Max Verstappen: It's not the place that I'm giving an IIDOTR, it's the overall drive. That catch was something else and some of those passes he made were filthy.

2) Esteban Ocon: Threatened the points at one stage. Solid position in a messy race.

Honourable Mentions: Felipe Nasr and Carlos Sainz, Jr.

1- Felipe Nasr- For getting Sauber its first points since October 2015.
2 Esteban Ocon- for nearly getting his first points in f1- He will get there next year in force India. Damm Alonso.

HM
Max Verstappen- What a drive. His team made the mistakes (apart from the one where he nearly binned it but credit to him for keeping it out of the barriers)
Carlos Sainz- May become the next Hulkenberg of why can't he get a better seat
Segio Perez. Nearly got another Podium. Nearly.
Benetton of 1992. Never a reject

1. Nasr - Finished 9th in what is one of Saubers worst ever cars. Was expecting him to fall back had quite a few faster cars behind him, but stayed in 6th for longer then expected.

2. Esteban Ocon - Again ran in the top 10 didnt fall through the field like his teammate did so close to scoring points.

HM
Force India - 4th in the constructors
Verstappen - A great drive and a great save.
Sainz - No longer a reject.

1. Max Verstappen - World Championship material, ridiculed Vettel. If Red Bull hadn't screwed those pit calls, it would have been a clear 1-2.
2. Carlos Sainz - Saved us from a year without unrejectifications. And he deserved even more.

HM to Nasr (great result, but we all know Ericsson would have deserved it more!), Ocon (clearly had the edge of Wehrlein, will rock in next year's Force India) and Force India (shame Hulkenberg had that puncture).

1. Felipe Nasr - Despite having been overshadowed by Marcus through the entire year, that was a mega drive by him. His team radio after the race was also incredible.

2. Esteban Ocon - He's better than Pascal. SUCK IT KLON :P

HM to Verstappen for that astounding confidence in the wet.

1. Esteban Ocon for showing why he has earned a spot in Force India next year.
2. Felipe Nasr for well-deserved points. Finally first points of the year for Sauber and by a driver in front of his home crowd.

Ocon - Racing like a legitimate boss. Or something.

Verstappen - Rosberg may have nightmares about a stampeding orange bull in the future that will require weeks of therapy to cure.

1. Verstappen - sorry, it just had to be. He made up 14 places in 16 laps for crying out loud. True, he had better tyres than anyone else but he had the confidence to go with it. Ricciardo in a similar situation couldn't do the same.
2. Sainz - very quietly got on with things and bagged a 6th place, which more importantly unrejectifies him!

HMs: Perez - almost another podium, he just keeps on delivering. Hulkenberg - good comeback drive. Nasr - composed drive for some vital points. Ocon - 1.5 seconds outside the points in awful conditions ain't bad.
Watka - you know, the swimming horses guy

1. Verstappen, for some brilliant driving and overtaking manevuers. The only damper on this was his near crash, but even then he managed to keep it out of the wall when others couldn't. Deserved the Drive of the Race award this time round.
2. Nasr for finally getting points in that shitbox they call an F1 car. First time since 2009 since every team has got a point if I've done my quick research correctly.
HM: Ocon for getting so close to points in the Manor, and Sainz for unrejectification. Haven't had too many lf those lately.

1. Nasr - as others have said, the current car is a fairly fundamentally flawed design that, somehow, Nasr managed to keep in the points and, for much of the race, he managed to punch well above his weight before the tyres began to fade. Much as it is something of a mixed blessing, given it displaces Manor to the back of the field, Nasr's performance has thrown the team a badly needed lifeline.

2. Ocon - speaking of Manor, Ocon similarly managed to put in an extremely strong performance and, for much of the race, was able to keep pace with the rest of the midfield pack in a car that was nowhere near theirs. It's a shame that his tyres finally began to give out towards the end of the race and he slipped out of the points, but he perhaps demonstrated there why he is currently being moved up into Force India ahead of Wehrlein.

I'd agree that those drivers who drove a clean race deserve at least an honourable mention given how tricky the conditions were - just getting to the finish felt like a major achievement.

1. Max Verstappen - because having to make up 13 places in 14 laps would go down as being pretty infinitely improbable.

2. Felipe Nasr - bossing it in a Sauber that is beyond flawed. Hard-earned points, very well done.

HM
Esteban Ocon for outclassing Pascal Wehrlein.

Carlos Sainz for unrejectifying himself.

Fernando Alonso for coming from last to points after that spin.

The Grandstand for cheering when Kimi Raikkonen got safely out of his car.

Kyle Abbott for no longer being in Steyn's shadow.

The Roadsweeper for an unlikely appearance on an F1 pit-straight.

Sergio Perez for a near miss on the podium.

The Green Flag for putting in a surprise appearance at the end of the race.
