Connaught are incredibly not happy with how Leston declined the offer and therefore we will continue to prove ourselves we are not a bad team 8-)

Since Gould has not yet been entered for this race, Connaught will ask BRM if they could lend Horace Gould for this race only and will also ask Bruce Halford to fill in the permanent seat vacated by Musso.

If BRM and Gould declines the one race offer, we will go for Halford instead, pending he accepts the role or not.

We would like to ask all the other teams to please........try not to make fun of us or us bad words on us. :P

Ah, correct my mistake, we'll ask Reg Parnell Racing then, not BRM. Just that I had to type this post on a phone with no power and didn't have time to properly check him first. :P

July 12th 1957, Dutch Grand Prix prequalifying

After a tremendous comeback in Belgium following an awful start to the race, Stirling Moss won one of the closest races in motorsport history, pulling out a massive 13-point lead in the championship, as his nearest rivals at B.C.M.A. all retired. Umberto Maglioli, who challenged for the win, finished in fourth, but is now in second place in the championship despite not yet scoring a podium this year. Moss will still have the championship lead after this race, but can someone else take chunks out of his lead this weekend?

43 drivers have arrived in Zandvoort for the first championship Dutch Grand Prix since 1954, all hoping to record a good result, with varying degrees of expectations.

44. Stuart Lewis-Evans (Connaught Engineering) - Connaught Type B chassis 2, O.S.C.A. 1557 engine 10

-Scuderia Ferrari, unable or unwilling to find a fifth driver for the Dutch Grand Prix, revert to the standard line-up of Sanesi, Maglioli, Cabianca and Gaze.
-Luigi Musso was fired from Connaught for poor performance and subsequently signed for Ugolini. Usual privateer Horace Gould agreed to drive in Zandvoort while awaiting a more permanent replacement in the shape of Bruce Halford.
-For the Dutch Grand Prix, the venerable Jonkheer van Loon has pulled out all the punches. As well as Rob Slotemaker, he has convinced Jean Behra to guest-drive, as well as successful local sportscar racer Mathieu Hezemans.
-Of course, some privateers have also made their way to Zandvoort. Henk van Zalinge rented an old Alfa Romeo AR161 for the stereotypically-named one-off Tulpen en Windmolens outfit, while Jean Lucas rented a similar Alfa with an O.S.C.A. engine. Hans Davids also rented a classic Guidobaldi-Loonmotor package under the condition that his team would run under the Loonmotor name.
-Following Hernando da Silva Ramos' injury in the Belgian Grand Prix, Gordini have signed Harry Schell for the Dutch Grand Prix and Redmond Gallagher for the British rounds.
-The Soviet showing in Spa having brought shame upon the Motherland, only Metelev and Dienerstein, who had outpaced some non-Soviet cars, remain in the line-up for the time being.
-Reg Parnell Racing, running deeper and deeper into financial trouble, have cut down to just the single car for Maria Teresa de Filippis.
-Gilberte Thirion and Escuderia Hernandez have declined to take part due to the small grid size, preferring not to risk a failure to qualify.
-BRM, also running into money issues, have declined to compete in the Dutch Grand Prix, presumably waiting until the larger grid of Wicklow.
-In an incident reminiscent of last year, Asso di Fiori have missed this race, administrative issues preventing them from submitting their entry on time.
-David Hampshire was also unable to attend, technical issues leaving them stranded in Belgium and unable to make their way to Zandvoort or submit an entry.

With only 22 spots on the grid and 43 entrants, the 21 following drivers will compete in a prequalifying session, with the 8 fastest of them making the main qualifying session.

No real surprise here. Norfolk, with more experience, easily put both cars into the main session, while Gaze, Schell and Gregory get easy tickets to Saturday's event. Once again, neither Adriatica car can make it, with Bianchi and Scarlatti coming in ninth and tenth. De Filippis and Gould are probably the biggest disappointments, as their cars should easily allow them to prequalify.

Despite only recording one lap without much issue or aggression, Jack Brabham scores a record-equalling ninth pole position, ahead of championship leader Stirling Moss and teammate Peter Collins. André Simon and Umberto Maglioli impress with their quick pace, as does Tony Gaze. Both Owen cars make a good impression by making the grid, as does the Norfolk Vanwall of Archie Scott Brown, who beats the Centro Sud entry of Hans Herrmann, as well as the higher-rated Heinz Melkus. Tomorrow's race looks promising.

July 14th 1957, Dutch Grand Prix

Brabham led from the start, followed by the fast-starting Volonterio and Gaze. Overtaking would obviously be pretty difficult on the twisty narrow dune circuit, but this wouldn't be an issue for Brabham, who increased his lead from the very beginning. The sand would prove problematic for some, though, as Consalvo Sanesi's engine failed after just three laps, followed one lap later by Archie Scott Brown with clutch failure. Gaze's initial pace tailed off, falling behind Moss and Collins. As the lower half of the field coalesced into a large battle, González attempted a defensive move on Mike Hawthorn, but only wound up throwing himself into a sand bank at high speed. On the very next lap, his teammate Volonterio suffered from an oil leak, reducing the O.S.C.A. contingent to Moss and Fangio, running in second and eighth place respectively. Trintignant retired from tenth place on lap 10 with a gearbox failure, leaving 17 drivers in the race.

Maglioli found some pace, passing the likes of Gaze, Collins and Simon to move into third place by lap 17. Soon after, just as Jack Fairman pulled out with a clutch failure, Simon dropped behind Collins, who therefore remained in fourth place. Brabham now had a commanding lead ahead of Moss and Maglioli. Maglioli had soon caught Moss, while Ferrari experienced mixed fortunes, with Gaze retiring from fourth place with suspension failure. A gearbox failure also eliminated Harry Schell, leaving 14 drivers in the race come lap 30. On the following lap, Umberto Maglioli took second place from Stirling Moss, starting a battle for the position that would last for a few laps. On lap 34, the past few races came back to haunt B.C.M.A. as Collins and Hawthorn suffered from synchronised gearbox failures.

The race suddenly settled down, with Maglioli winning his battle with Moss and extending a decent gap. Little changed for 20 laps until Giulio Cabianca backed his Ferrari into the Tarzanbocht dunes. Robert Manzon would soon join him on the sidelines when his Gordini engine failed him. They were followed by Fangio with electrical failure and André Simon with steering issues, both retiring successively from fourth place. This left Bonnier in fourth place with Bira close behind. On lap 66, Bira attempted an overtake, but badly fluffed his exit to Scheivlak, skidding on the sand and crashing out of the race, leaving only seven cars in the race, all spaced out pretty equally. Moss caught up Maglioli and attempted to pass him, but despite numerous attempts, failed to make it through.

At the front, Jack Brabham drove a flawless race. He scored pole, fastest lap and led every single lap, securing the very first grand chelem in the world championship. Such was his dominance that Maglioli and Moss, finishing the podium, were five laps behind at the finish. Jo Bonnier, Masten Gregory, Duncan Hamilton and Alan Stacey were the last finishers, and though Brabham broke all records, Stirling Moss retains his championship lead with a fourth consecutive podium.

Scuderia Ferrari shall repair 801 chassis 1, and scrap DS50 engine 4. The latter was only built one race weekend ago, and already it has been turned into a pile of junk.

I've decided that the bankruptcy thing was a bit too lazy a way to end IRC's involvement here, so to give them a proper send-off from F1 I would like to bring them back for Ireland and Britain. The details:

1. I'm probably not in much of a position to do this, but I would like to request a budget that would be enough to build a tier 1 chassis as well as purchase an engine, probably a 1957-spec OSCA to fulfill the deal I made with Pi last season. Something similar to the budget I had at the end of 1956 plus whatever prize money the team was due would probably be enough.
2. The entry will only be made in Ireland and Britain. I'm not going to abuse this to try and win championships and to prove it, I will allow the FIA to block any entry by IRC in any further races.
3. The equipment will not be sold off to anyone under any circumstances. In fact, no transactions, be it money or equipment, will be made between IRC or any other entity except the engine supplier, and that will only be for the engine the team will use. Nothing else. Again, the FIA will be allowed to block any transaction attempts that look shady.
4. No equipment will be entered into auction to circumvent point 3. Once more, any attempts may be blocked.

So, the background. IRC has spent much of the 1956-57 off-season (and the 1957 season itself) with the preparation of its new Mk 1 chassis (what a name), designed by Ulsterman John Crosslé, taking cues from the revolutionary Lancia D50 or something. Joe Kelly has provided his Red Cow Garage in Clondalkin, County Dublin as a base for the team to prepare the new car, and has tested the car himself. Apparently it's good. You get the idea.

Oh yeah, driver bids (with nationalities and dates of birth to save some research):

1. Joe Flynn (ROI, 08/12/1917)
2. Paddy Hopkirk (UK, 14/04/1933)
3. Malcolm Templeton (UK, 27/03/1919, thought he was younger...)
4. Ian Titterington (UK, 16/06/1932)
5. Cecil Vard (ROI, 18/06/1923)
6. Bill Lacy (ROI, ??/??/1930)
7. John Crosslé (UK, 03/10/1931, yep, the designer himself)
8. Joe Kelly (ROI, 13/03/1913, now it's getting desperate...)

And in case the Wicklow driver performs particularly disastrously, an English guest for Silverstone:

1. Brian Naylor (UK, 24/03/1923, he will at the very least be given the chance to practice the car)

Hey hey Tommy, I was wondering if there was a free spot for a new manufacturer to enter in 1958? I have grandesque plans that don't involve me vanishing mysteriously with all of Lancia's money.

Speaking of which, sorry Simtek. I'll buy you a pint to make up for it.

I would like to enter Eric Broadley into the Irish Grand Prix in an F1 adaptation of his 1956 Broadley Special (a precursor to the Lola Mk 1), with the Coventry Climax engine. Is this possible as a purely one-off entry?

Norfolk Engineering will be entering the Irish GP, will use the same setup like in previous round.

Don't know if the signups aren't ready yet or posted, so probably we may have posted early.

Joe Flynn
1-90: returns to IRC at short notice for his home race.
91-100: decides that the new car isn't quite ready yet and turns down the opportunity.
5 - Flynn doesn't hesitate and jumps on the chance to drive in F1 again.

...speaking of which, I need to confirm that engine deal in official terms. I know it was a rental deal for two engines, but I cannot for the life of me remember the exact amount I was paying for them.

John Bekaert
John Bekaert (Chassis: Ferrari R560 1 / Engine: Ferrari RS560 1)
Roy Bloxam (Chassis: Ferrari R560 5 / Engine: Ferrari RS560 2)

Accomplished sports car duo Bekaert and Bloxam have entered the Irish Grand Prix together with borrowed Ferrari machines.

Volga Testa Russo
Edward Lorent (Chassis: Volga NK1.6 / Engine: Volga GZ 1.6)

In another surprising twist, there will be only one Volga car entered to the Irish Grand Prix, but it will be Edward Lorent who drives it. After his performance at Spa, it was rather assumed we might have seen the last of him.
