-Following the loss of Cabianca, O.S.C.A. made the decision not to enter the race. Hernando da Silva Ramos is slated to take the Italian's drive from Spa, but remains with Centro Sud this weekend, joined by Red Gallagher who replaces Consalvo Sanesi.
-Three-time world champion Jack Brabham was injured in a minor crash in Reims and will therefore be missing the Zandvoort race. Surprise Reims winner John Surtees takes his place in the new car alongside Moss and Hamilton.
-The driver exchanging between Ferrari and Lotus continues, as Wolfgang von Trips steps into the fourth Scuderia car for Zandvoort. Masten Gregory, who was in the car the past two races, is filling in the second Lotus seat alongside Ruttman and Graham Hill, as Phil Hill steps aside.
-Jean Behra also crashed in Reims, injuring his ankle and damaging his car. Behra has since recovered, but the Voeckler remains out of business, and the French team is now down to three cars.
-After skipping the French Grand Prix, Brian Naylor has reappeared, not only with his own Lotus-O.S.C.A., but also with a Lotus-Ferrari for Stuart Lewis-Evans, as agreed with Connaught Engineering, who sit the race out.
-Rob Walker were also one man short following González's Reims accident, prompting an early début from American sportscar prodigy Dan Gurney alongside Harry Schell.
-Bolstered by Alan Stacey's fifth place in France, Owen Racing Organisation have brought out the third car for Maria Teresa de Filippis.
-Conversely, Scuderia Ugolini downsized to a single car for André Guelfi due to budget issues, with Hans Herrmann left on the sidelines.
-After Paul Armagnac's valiant efforts in Reims, Hans Davids puts on his driving gloves for the DB Owners' Club.
-Unwilling to miss his home race, the Jonkheer van Loon has made a rare appearance, fielding a Guidobaldi-Mercedes for Rob Slotemaker. His engine manufacturer's affiliate team has also entered one for Mathieu Hezemans, despite neither car being powered by a Loonmotor engine.
-Norfolk Engineering enters Bruce Halford after missing out on the French Grand Prix.
-Entering his home race once again, Carel Godin de Beaufort has loaned a Ferrari for his Ecurie Maarsbergen.
-Alexander Racing Team, having learned that François Picard in a Guidobaldi was an ineffective entry, have instead entered Lucien Bianchi in an O.S.C.A. to join Georges Burggraf in a Vanwall.
-As Cooper improves from race to race, a third car has been entered for Luigi Musso, who joins Hawthorn and Allison.
-Due to the reduced grid size, several smaller teams have not bothered with the trip, including Hernandez, DB, Hampshire and the Loonmotor fan club. Maserati intended to submit an entry, but administrative delays meant it was not accepted.

Honoré Wagner takes his private entry through to Saturday, as does the usually underwhelming Cliff Allison. Bruce Kessler takes the Bachot car surprisingly close to the top eight, while Brian Naylor will feel very unlucky as his cars take the two next-fastest spots.

Hawthorn, von Trips, Salvadori, Gurney, Melkus, Bianchi and Russell will be very happy at making the grid, at the expense of the likes of Graham Hill and Georges Burggraf. Tomorrow's race looks like it could be very exciting!

Re: Alt-1958: Enter Dutch Grand Prix!
June 15th 1958, Dutch Grand Prix
As the flag dropped, the hopeful Roy Salvadori was the first to be disappointed, as the smell of clutch permeated the start-finish straight. Among the living, though, the fast starters were clear to see. Hernando da Silva Ramos jumped into the race lead at Tarzan like a bat out of hell and soon pulled away a substantial lead, while Alan Stacey and Redmond Gallagher soon found their way into second and third places respectively. Peter Collins and Stirling Moss were left safe in their own strategies, fighting over fourth place with the likes of Marimón, Hamilton, Ruttman and Maglioli.
As the race settled down, the first proper retirements began to occur. André Simon's gearbox was the first to go from seventh place, soon followed by Umberto Maglioli with an oil leak. On lap 19, though, the race was turned on its head when Ramos, after dominating the start of the race, pulled into the pits with a snapped right-front suspension. The Brazilian driver and his Roman team were both distraught at the turn of events, as surely that signified the disappearance of another potential upset result.
This played into the hands of the chasers, Alan Stacey and the ever-closing Redmond Gallagher, who were now in a very unlikely 1-2. Peter Collins was now a distant third in the Ferrari, far ahead of the battling Moss, Marimón and Hamilton. As this battle progressed, Marimón gained the upper hand, while Hamilton also left Moss behind to be caught by Ruttman. This turned out to be symptomatic of a larger issue, and Moss pulled out of the race on lap 28 with brake fade. Ruttman joined him two laps later with gearbox issues.
These retirements allowed a new contender to join the hunt for points, in the form of Mike Hawthorn. The Brit, showing very decent pace in the Cooper-Climax, soon caught the now-ailing Duncan Hamilton, and by lap 40 Hawthorn was in fifth position. Four laps later, Hamilton had pulled over, his race ended with clutch issues. Gregory, Surtees, von Trips and Manzon were now fighting for the newly-available sixth position, while further ahead, Marimón decided to rip up the Ferrari playbook and pass his teammate Collins for third place. The Ferrari duo were now catching Stacey and Gallagher, who had been nose-to-tail for several laps. The Irishman had a slight pace advantage over the young Brit, but not large enough to find a way past.
14 drivers remained in the race when a fuel leak caused Dan Gurney's Rob Walker O.S.C.A. to run dry, and by lap 60, Collins had passed Marimón once more. Further behind, Surtees had broken away from the chasing pack and was challenging Mike Hawthorn's fifth place. The early pace-setters were finally caught with 20 laps remaining, and Collins easily passed Stacey and Gallagher for the lead on lap 64, followed by Marimón five laps later. They were soon in danger from Surtees, Hawthorn and a hard-charging Masten Gregory, and while Hawthorn's challenge fizzled out, Surtees and Gregory carried on. With only three laps to go, Surtees hesitated to pass Gallagher, and that was all the encouragement Gregory needed to swoop past the three of them into a popular third place. Surtees soon made short work of them to take fourth, but it was too little too late.
Peter Collins was left undisturbed in the last few laps and took his fourth race victory, his second of the season, and his first championship hat-trick. Marimón finished a distant second, completing a Ferrari 1-2. Ferrari-contracted Masten Gregory held on to third place, ahead of Surtees and the limping Stacey and Gallagher. Hawthorn, von Trips, Trintignant, Manzon, Melkus and Russell rounded out the finishers, as Lucien Bianchi's transmission and Jack Fairman's electrics prevented the pair from reaching the end.

Re: Alt-1958: Dutch Grand Prix up!
Connaught will design a new £20,000 (design cost) chassis (to be christened the Type C), and build one, with more being built at request of another team at a flat rate of £8,000 per unit manufactured, and we will include a universal free repairs guarantee if we are paid £12,000. For teams on a tight budget, you may apply for a finance plan, where you pay a £5,000 deposit, and then pay £2,000 for the next 5 races. In the meantime, we will put up our O.S.C.A. F158 chassis 7 for sale.

Sixteen laps... that's a lot of laps.

Meanwhile, Tony Vandervell is making a very angry phonecall to the clutch manufacturer...
