Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Spain
Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Spain
1. The slow-mo replay of a patch of tarmac - Most exciting bit of action all day, worthy of a BAFTA.
2. When the chequered flag came out - Seems about right.

My pick is Verstappen. Managed to prevent Ferrari having any chance of reaching the dominant Mercedes.
The other pick would be Mercedes, managing once again to shine where everyone else fails...

I nominate Daniil Kvyat. Those overtakes were vintage (especially that one on Raikkönen!), and without a slow pitstop he could've finished 7th or 8th.
I guess Verstappen as well. I think he could've managed 3rd even if Ferrari didn't bumble their team orders.

I am going to nominate the BBC for deeming this race worthy of merely 55 minutes of radio coverage, an amazing piece of foresight on their part because it meant that those who didn't have access to any form of live TV coverage still didn't miss anything after the radio had shunted off to some Scousers and Mancs (or at least a bunch of foreign Galacticos pretending to be Scousers and Mancs) kicking a ball around a field.
James Allen, on his favourite F1 engine of all time:
"...the Life W12, I can't describe the noise to you, but imagine filling your dustbin with nuts and bolts, and then throwing it down the stairs, it was something akin to that!"

I nominate Haas for finally scoring some points after a weak start to the season, and for being responsible for much of the excitement after the safety car.

The lack of a race thread - Usually the worst part of the race weekend and we didn't have one for a change.
Mercedes - Once again overcoming the superior Ferrari; truly one of the great Cinderella stories of motor racing.
Haas - There's the Haas I remember from last year!

1) Toro Rosso. Took the race in stride, and were looking for a double points haul before the Safety Car.
2) Kevin Magnussen. Looked strong all weekend, and got the upper hand on his teammate. Had a couple attempts to pass Gasly too.
Honorable Mentions:
Max Verstappen (Kept the Ferraris scambling and failing to pass him)
Carlos Sainz Jr. (Made the most of the race after the Safety Car to get into the points)

Has to be the marshalls with leaf blowers during the Safety Car.

And there you go! 48 hours to get your votes in on what was the best thing about a very popular race!

And continuing our theme of more ironic, abstract awards, those marshals using leaf-blowers humorously have won our award! The race was, to be fair, a little bit boring, and the replays were perhaps the best and funniest part of the whole race. Not a good sign when Catalunya is under threat. So thank you, leaf-blowing marshals, you provided approximately nine seconds of fun to last weekend!
