Notice how Jean Alesi was out qualified by both Grouillard & Deletraz!!! I know Alesi's 1st F3000 season wasn't great but I didn't think it was THAT bad. Shocking.

It has not much to do with how both drivers ended up performing in F1. F1 is a great leap over F3000.

And after all, we have people like James Hunt and Kamui Kobayashi who did little in F3 and GP2, respectively, but have been sensational in F1. Sometimes feeder series don't always tell you who the best F1 driver is.

Best example of this IMO is 1992 - Luca Badoer and Andrea Montermini 1st and 2nd ahead of Barrichello, Coulthard and Panis.
Another good one is of course Heinz-Harald Frentzen vs Karl Wendlinger vs Michael Schumacher

To be fair, Kobayashi is the reigning champion of GP2 Asia.

And I think, Alesi won the F3000 title in 1989.

In Eddie Jordan bio, he states that he believes Alesi had shown promise in F3000 but his poor season in 1988 was partly down to a lack of disicpline on Alesi's part (i.e. fitness, not setting up the car, sponsors duties etc). That why he when Alesi joined EJ's F3000 team in 1989, he lived with EJ so he could sort him out.

I think, I THINK, that's actually either Mike or Andy Raymond, but what they could possibly be doing commentating on something outside of Australian Touring Cars is beyond me.

Well, one of the best findings I have made on YouTube in quite a time, I think. It's a Japanese highlight reel of the last race of the 1996 Formula Nippon season in Fuji. And man, what reject names we have in here. Naoki Hattori in contention for the Championship with a certain German beloved by most and Kazuyoshi Hoshino. Also you will see a young Shinji Nakano and a young Noberto Fontana in action, along with other famous names. Mix this with insane rain and an even more insane announcer and you have gold at hands!

I have just realised, much to my delight, that this calm and collected gentleman was also commentating on F1 in 1995 and 1996:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZKKpYMezmA

I now know what the Japanese for "side by side" is. It's "side by side-o".

Definitely not Mike Raymond - he has such a distinctive style I could recognise it from a mile off. Might possibly be Andy Raymond but likewise I can't see why he's recording a voice-over for an F3000 race. This one might have to remain a mystery - the only certainty being that it's not me, although given the reject names in the field, I wish it was ...

Something to revive this thread, I dont stop scouting for more gems...

...such as this one

Martin Brundle in his Jordan overalls on the Chris Evans entertainment sledgehammer TFI Friday, rarely shown in wales at its 6pm timeslot, but heres Martin shedding some light-hearted humour on his heavy crash at Melbourne in 1996.

I speak french, so I am going to give it a shot for ya ;)
obviously this will not have the same wording and it probobly won't rhyme.. but oh well!

I am a pilot at Pacific, A very likable team..
Always lagging behind, I am 26th..
Hugging kerbs, in my Pacific-Ford..
It does not scare me, to use those rumble strips..
I wanted to score points, but in the end I got nothing..
To tell you the truth, I don't even expect, to one day qualify!

Pacific! Yes Pacific!
We are always last! It is quite tragic!
Pacific! Yes Pacific!
We do the worst lap times. Gachot and Belmondo.
Finishing a Grand Prix, is not very easy, with Deletraz.... and Montermini!

*burp*

Lavaggi pumps in money. Thank you for the funding.
But we are still hopeless, like every other sunday!
My laptimes are super! ......10 seconds from Johnny Herbert..
I know, it's sad... but the importance is to participate!

Pacific! Yes Pacific!
Just behind the Simteks, are our own Pacifics!
Pacific! Yes Pacific!
Nothing seems to change, so, we quickly close our doors!

Hey everyone. First post! Can't wait to post some more and chat with you guys.

I have to post it it here...a classic moment in the history of Italian Television

Mimmo Schiattarella is being interviewed... (he raced in the Ferrari Challenge at the time)...

BUT!

In the background a man is walking, boldly smiling... he's Gianni Giudici (an old gentleman racer)... shouts in front of the cameras: "Un pò di figa qua?" ("Any pussy here?")

...then realizes that the camera caught him...
