I've also just thought two pairs that did happen but not simultaneously but I'd like to have seen at the same time - Senna and Prost in McLaren-Hondas battling with Mansell and Piquet in comparable Williams-Hondas in the late 80s. That could have been some 4-way battle for a championship, none of them would have got any help from their teammates! :)

Jean Alesi. Nuff said.

The same could apply to Jacques Villeneuve as he left BAR just as they become competitive and was fired by BMW before the end of 06.

Martin Brundle/Luca Badoer- Benetton 1992-1995: Brundle wins 1994 and 1995 fair and square, but is heartbroken by his friend, Senna's death, and promptly retires after a last year with Tyrrell in 1996. Badoer wins the championship in 1998 and 1999, but he too leaves, for Ferrari. Benetton stay until 2002, when the team is sold to Renault.

Stephane Sarrazin/Nick Heidfeld- BAR 1999-2003: Jacques Villeneuve is prevented from starting the season for his team when he is involved in a motorbike accident. After Sarrazin and Heidfeld put up spectacular peformances in the first three races, both nearly scoring points if it weren't for reliability problems, Craig Pollock has no choice but to sack his long time friend. BAR replace him with Adrian Reynard. Sarrazin and Heidfeld stay until 2003, when Heidfeld moves to Jordan, and Sarrazin moves to Renault. Their successors, Jenson Button and Takuma Sato fail to match the startling performances of the Sarrafeld combination.

Yes 3 races at the end of 2004. No points, lapped every race. & Renault weren't totally uncompetitive then as they finished third in the constructors (& might have finished second). I think he already had a contract for 2005 with Sauber. Who couldn't have been impressed?

But they still respected each other, and that's what matters. It didn't go so out of control like, say, Mansell/Piquet or worse still, Senna/Prost.

My other point, is, that this is my world. :D

When thinking about silly seasons and possible future changes, I came to the conclusion that seeing Heikki Kovalainen in a Ferrari would be fun.

Also, Giancarlo Fisichella to McLaren in 2008 instead of Kovalainen.
Adam Carroll in a Super Aguri.
Jacques Villeneuve in a Ferrari.
Giancarlo Fisichella in a Williams (like someone before me said).
Jacques Villeneuve in a Williams, again.
Fernando Alonso in all historical top teams (he's driven for Ferrari, McLaren and Renault, so that would leave Williams and Mercedes).
Sébastien Bourdais in a GOOD team.
Tiago Monteiro in a Williams.
Robert Kubica in a McLaren, or a Ferrari, but preferably a McLaren.
Takuma Sato in a Lotus(-Honda).
MOTOR RACING IS DANGEROUS

I'd love to see Hamilton and Alonso together in a team again fighting each other for wins, maybe Mercedes?

Sutil and Kubica in the same team as I think they'd also push each other to the limit.

Sutil and Kubica in the same team as I think they'd also push each other to the limit.

Both Hamilton and Alonso have been asked if they would be prepared to drive alongside the other driver in a team (I believe by the BBC). Hamilton said that he would be prepared to accept Alonso as a team mate, but Alonso simply said "No" and refused to be drawn any further on his answer, which is perhaps revealing about the mindset of each of those drivers in the wake of 2007.

Perhaps another interesting pairing would be the one that Murray Walker suggested when asked the same question, which was Nigel Mansell and Alan Jones, as he expected that would be a fairly explosive mix (perhaps literally when you consider that he would have liked to see them both driving the Brabham BT52).
