2010 Rejects!

Post by Kobacrashi »

2010 Rejects, an idea born out of boredom!!!

After sitting down on a sunday morning having already watched Match of the Day, eaten a pizza and being bored by the politics show an idea struck me. Take the classic reject definition system and apply it to the 2010 season, abolish all data from previous seasons and use it as a barometer of performance for drivers in the 2010 season, so lets see how the statistics stack up and see who has unrejectified themselves.

Bahrain;Alonso, Massa, Hamilton, Vettel

Australia;Button, Kubica, Rosberg

Malaysia;Webber

China;None

Spain;Schumacher

Monaco;None

Turkey;None

Canada;None

Europe;Barrichello, Sutil

Britain;None

Germany;None

Hungary;None

Belgium;None

Italy;None

After looking at the data ther are 11 drivers that have managed to un2010rejectify themself, these ones are all obvious as 8 of them are from the top 4 teams, if you count mercedes GP. The other drivers that are still rejectified for this season are not really suprising, when we look at them we can see:

HRT , Senna, Yamamoto, Chandok and probably Klien assuming that all other 22 cars finish he has no chance unfortunately, but thanks must be sent to the team for supplying us with 4 rejects this season.

Lotus, Trulli and Kovalainen, probably the most consistant of the new teams but still knowhere near undoing their status, which is not suprising.

Virgin, Glock and DiGrassi, again no one ever expected them to do well so no suprise, won't make any Virgin jokes either.

Scuderia Toro Rosso, Buemi and Alguersuari, Could have been better but considering the expectations around the team only a miracle will give either car the oppurtunity to escape.

Force India, Liuzzi, some may say a failure to capitalise as much as his team-mate.

Sauber, Kobayashi, De La Rosa and Heidfeld, obviously Heidfeld hasn't had the chance yet but a decentish points haul for the other two and Kamui is just one good result from escaping.

Renault, Petrov, Novice season for Petrov but Kubica has done it.

Williams, Hulkenberg, Again only one result from unrejecting himself.

After looking at the results the fact that there are 4 teams where both drivers have managed to escape reject status this year is barely a suprise as they are driving the better cars, and again when you examine the three new teams it was never a suprise but imagine the party if by some miracle one of their drivers managed a top 4, and the crazy events that would lead to these circumstances. Toro Rosso and sauber have had their well publisised difficulties this season although a top 5 finish would give Kamui an out.

Where it gets interesting is when you look at the 3 drivers whose team-mates who have achieved the great escape. Hulkenberg has a 6th place finish and so is also one result away and as it is his first season the obvious experiance he lacks when compared to Rubens gives himself a vague excuse, as does Petrovs situation. He may have made some mistakes, rookie errors at times but he is a rookie so we will see what the end of the season holds in store for him. Which leaves us with one driver left. Liuzzi has little excuses, he has been around, knows how the formula 1 world works and yet is still a reject and has also been absolutely pummeled by his team mate. His failure to take advantage of the Force India was not always his fault but over a season the facts don't lie.

Hopefully some more drivers will manage to undo their status by the end of the year and all the (sloppily) researched facts in this article are correct.
Kobayashi is back! Need I say more!

This post has convinced me that Vitantonio Liuzzi is, with four races to go, the Reject of the Year.
Go home, Bernie Ecclestone!
