What are the point of white lines?

Post by Myrvold »

Ok, I'm a frigging nazi when it comes to the rules. I mean the rules are the rules for a reason. And that they should be followed.

Time and again, we see people gaining an advantage by running off track, and today, T3, was T3+a car width outside the white lines. What the **** is the point with the white lines when they can give a long ! in them, and drive where they want?

Get the grass back outside the white lines, or gravel, or sand, or knifes for that matter, just make it impossible to go outside the white lines to get any kind of advantage. They can very well have asphalt closer to the barriers, but make the drivers pay for exceeding track limits. Or just don't have any white lines marking anything. Free for all. This is just idiotic. I actually skipped 47 laps of todays race because of this.

Sounds like you sympathise strongly with Brundle when he complained "These run off areas make it all too easy. In my day, if you went across a run off area at that sort of speed, you'd end up getting familiar with the taste of hospital food. These days, it's a way to go faster."

I also agree. Drivers get off too lightly these days. The good thing is that it is safer out there for him. The bad is things like this.

I think its a case of the super reliability of modern F1 causing us to all want drivers to be punished more for small mistakes. Though I have to agree that run off areas have perhaps gotten a little too forgiving in recent years it would be a disaster to make a turn more punishing only for a major accident to happen there soon after. Im not sure the sport could live down a death or major injury to a driver after deliberately making said corner LESS safe.

I raised this in another thread and I agree it really ticks me off, Schumacher kept doing it when being chased by Rosberg, who is to say that he didn't gain a constant advantage that prevented Rosberg from catching and passing? I don't think we should be introducing gravel traps again, but how about what they did at turn 8? Put a new sleeping policeman there, that'll stop it very quickly!

I don't think it's all that difficult to realise for the stewards that the drivers were gaining an unfair advantage out of it. It should be policed indeed. Or use special asphalt coatings, but these things are just disgraceful.

Didnt Sir Jackie Stewart say that F1 now is too safe and he wanted safer races. Maybe its got to easy atm.

They should put tiny cliffs outside the track and strengthen the top of the monocoque to avoid injuries during possible roll-overs. :D

They'll do away with the white lines before making the penalties greater for crossing them (i.e. putting gravel or real grass back in). Yes drivers cross them all the time, but the cat is out of the bag. What sucks is I've seen drivers penalized for crossing some white lines, but not others. Evidently all white lines are not created equal.
It's just unbelievable...that Formula 1 could be such a ridiculous melange of idiots.

(Aaah, aaah, aaah, aaah)
Uhraah!
Bass!

Ooh White, White
Ooh White, White
Ooh White, White

(Ooh White Lines) Vision dreams of passion
(Blowin’ through my mind) and all the while I think of you
(High price) a very strange reaction
(For us to unwind) the more I see, the more I do
(Something like a phenomenon) Baby!
(Tellin your body to come along, but white lines blow away)
(Blow! Rock it! Blow!)

Ticket to ride, white line highway
Tell all your friends, they can go my way
Pay your toll, sell your soul
Pound for pound costs more than gold
The longer you stay, the more you pay
My white lines go a long way
Either up your nose or through your vein
With nothin to gain except killin’ your brain

(Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock!)
(Blow!)

(Ahhh) Higher, baby
(Ahhh) Get higher, baby!
(Ahhh) Get higher, baby!
And don't ever come down! (Freebase!)

Rang dang diggedy dang di-dang
Rang dang diggedy dang di-dang
Rang dang diggedy dang di-dang
Diggedy dang di-dang diggedy dang di-dang

(Pipeline) pure as the driven snow
(Connected to my mind) and now I'm havin’ fun, baby!
(High price) it's getting kinda low
(Cause it makes you feel so nice) I need some one-on-one, baby!
(Don't let it blow your mind away) Baby!
(And go into your little hideaway ‘cause white lines blow away)
(Blow! Rock it! Blow!)

A million magic crystals, painted pure and white
A multi-million dollars almost overnight
Twice as sweet as sugar, twice as bitter as salt
And if you get hooked, baby, it's nobody else's fault, so don't do it!

(Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock!)
Raah! (Blow!)

(Ahhh) Higher, baby
(Ahhh) Get higher, baby!
(Ahhh) Get higher, baby!
And don't ever come down! (Freebase!)

(Don’t you get too high) don’t you get too high baby!
(Turns you on) you really turn me on and on
('Cause you gotta come down) my temperature is risin’
(When the thrill is gone) no, I don’t want you to go

A street kid gets arrested, gonna do some time
He got out three years from now just to commit more crime
A businessman is caught with 24 kilos
He’s out on bail and out of jail
And that’s the way it goes
Raah!

(Kane! Sugar! Kane! Sugar! Kane!)

Athletes rejected, governerds corrected
Gangsters, thugs and smugglers are thoroughly respected
The money gets divided
The women get excited
Now I’m broke and it’s no joke
It’s hard as hell to fight it, don’t buy it!

(Freeze! Haha ha ha! Rock! Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock!)
Raah! (Blow!)

(Ahhh) Get higher, baby
(Ahhh) Get higher, girl!
(Ahhh) Get higher, baby!
C’mon!
Raah!

(White Lines) Vision dreams of passion
(Blowin’ through my mind) and all the while I think of you
(High price) a very strange reaction
(For us to unwind) the more I see, the more I do
(Something like a phenomenon) Baby!
(Tellin your body to come along, but white lines blow away)

Little Jack Horner sitting on the corner
With no shoes and clothes
This aint funny, but he took his money
And sniffed it up his nose

(Hey man, you wanna cop some blow?)
(Sure, what you got, dust, flakes or rocks?)
(I got China White, Mother of Pearl, Ivory Flake, What you need?)
(Well yeah, well let me check it out man, just let me get a freeze)
(Go ahead man, stuff I got should kill ya!)
(Yeah man th-that’s that’s raw, wuh)

(Freeze! Haha ha ha! Rock! Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock!
Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock! Freeze! Rock!)

A bit off topic, but they should remove the white lines at Indianapolis and let them run all the way down to the grass. Because the racing lane is so small and the modern cars are so disrupted by turbulent air when running behind another, passing has become more difficult than ever. Hopefully in 2012 that will change.

Actually it'll be in 2013.

Wait, doesn't the new Indycar chassis and engine package start use next year?

Chassis and engine, yes, but the teams are really pushing hard to put the Aero kits off until 2013, so everyone will probably still be running exactly the same aero as each other.
I coined the term "Lewisteria". The irony is that I actually quite like Lewis Hamilton.

Wow, I had no idea. I find that a little disappointing, but I guess it makes a lot of sense, as it will keep cost down for their first season.
