Re: F1 To Be Split Between BBC 1 and Sky Sports from 2012

I'm not sure the BBC got much choice over its races. Oh well, Radio 5 Live and the internet it is... BBC picked 3 to share (Monaco, Silverstone, Brazil as the season closer), then Sky picked 3 exclusives(Australia because it's the opener, Canada, US mainly for their timeslots). After that though, t...

It's a very sad situation, but if Bernie's right (and Bernie never blatantly lies, he just squirms), then I don't blame him at all. He sells TV rights to over 60 countries worldwide, so long as they give him money. He even pays some countries who can't afford it just for the advertising. Why should...

At 3.2km (Wikipedia measurement, admittedly), Monaco actually isn't long enough for F1, and wouldn't be certified if it hadn't previously held races. For fear of stating the obvious, though, it's kind of a special case. APPENDIX O TO THE INTERNATIONAL SPORTING CODE - Procedures for the Recognition o...

Re: Here we go again...

What about Infineon Raceway? Or would it be too short. You'd need to use the infield loop to get it long enough (and all that would need proper runoff) and even then it's only just long enough (the minimum is 3.5 km, the prefence is for nearer 5). You'd need to completely remodel turn 11 and the pi...

You point to Watkins Glen as a circuti that could host Formula 1. It can't. Not without a major overhaul - widening the circuit, adding run-off, upgrading pit facilities, and so on. If Formula 1 went to Watkins Glen, it would need so much work that the circuit would become unrecongisable. And then ...

The solution seems pretty simple to me, just give the Q3 runners an extra set (or two) of that weekend's option compound, to be handed back immediately afterwards. You might still get the odd midfielder with a grid penalty not trying to make Q2, but everyone in Q2 would make a serious go of it as be...

There were no problems with the safety of the Audis at Le Mans this year, when two of them had massive shunts, were there, despite being closed-cockpits? Yes and no. Even ignoring 1992, I'd say including Mansell would be a bit harsh, given he was a legitimate title contender '87 and '91 as well. But yeah, there have been a few drivers who get painfully close once and then never even get a second whiff of it.
